I guys . I'm totally new to emby so i hope my question won't be too stupid for you Status : HP n 54l with xpenology and plex media server. I want to switch from plex to emby because there is nos significant improvement on hardware transcoding since a year and i need a plex pass to use it. Purpose : Adding a Nvidia gt1030 for Hardware transcoding on the fly 4K HEVC from it to read it from a distant place. Is there any chance it works ? Like i dont whant to waste my money I decided to try emby on my gaming computer (gtx980 + 6600k + win 10) to see how mature was hardware transcoding on Emby. Just installed the server and running it. No configuration other than switching to Nvidia NVENC. Switch to my Z3 tablet with the android app and do this : Try to read a full HD movie in H264 - without transcoding => OK CPU 1% NO GPU - Transcoding to 720P 2mbps => 13% CPU 20% GPU (why ? shoudln't the cpu stay to 1%) Try to read a Full HD movie in H265 - without transcoding => OK CPU 1% NO GPU - transcoding to anything Doesn't work . (log attached). Any advice on the probability to decode 4h hevc with Hpn54l + gt1030 is welcome.(most of all for say to me it will works ) Any help to understand why my test was a faile dis welcome too. Let me now if you need any other informations or If i forgot something.

Dear Community. I am quiet new to emby. Until now i like it very much, it is clean and simple. On my archlinux box i am playing around with it. During that time i tried the hw acceleration of my i7-3770, which supports h264 accel through vaapi within ffmpeg. Running vaapi as root just works fine. Emby fails. Hey - apologies if this comes across as a noob post or whatever, I've recently been introduced to Emby and I am absolutely amazed with it, it's absolutely fantastic, so good that I've decided to host my own Emby server. I'm looking at spending anywhere from £300-500 (although this can be pushed up slightly if need be) for my build. I've considered these things currently: Mac Mini (16GB Ram, i5 Processor, 240GB SSD) HPe Proliant ML10 Gen9 HPE ProLiant Gen8 G1610T 819185-421 (4GB RAM) MicroServer Storage won't be a problem as I'll have a 8TB NAS to start with. My requirements so far are: Steam to 3 devices in the same household. (Will most likely be 3 at the max, but maybe potential for 4-5) Be able to stream remotely to 1-2 people (If I'm at my girlfriends house or travelling for work) Do either of the 3 I've posted look like they could do what I require? Or do any of you kind folk know a better build that will give me more bang for my buck? I'm not opposed to building the server myself out of parts, just trying to get some knowledge here. Many thanks

Transcoding - Difference between permissions to HW decode or SW decode
anderbytes posted a topic in Feature Requests
Now that hardware acceleration is widely used, I need to suggest that inside user configuration can give permissions to HW or SW encoding separately. Why? Maybe I want to allow only HW encoding because I don't want CPU spikes everywhere... Or maybe somebody only desire SW encodings because sees more quality in it... -
I've got emby-server setup on an Ubuntu server 16.04 from an Asus laptop with i7 2.8ghz cpu and 16gb ram, along with a 2tb ext hdd in the usb 3.0 port. I'm very curious about what the streaming limitations are with emby. If I've got a day when my household is using emby on several devices and then say several friends and family using the server are all connecting and using media potentially on several devices, at one point can I expect to have an issue? How does emby utilize i/o on the ext hdd? What files are transcoded and how can I minimize the need for transcoding? In general, I'm just thinking, what if I wanted to allow 20 people to stream my media, all potentially with multiple devices running concurrently, what do I need to do on my end? Is it necessary to setup multiple servers? How can I ensure the best experience for multiple users?

Hello, I've been running an Emby server at home for quite a while, but I've never set up live TV. I have Cox Communications, with a box beside my server (Running one Windows 10). Could anyone like to a guide or something? I looked around but I guess I don't know the correct search terms to use because I'm not finding anything related to this. Update: Somehow I missed this, sorry. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Live-TV

Thinking of getting the NEXBOX T10 to run as a dedicated server
phi303 posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
I was looking for a low-cost solution for something that would just run 24/7 with low power consumption and ran into the NEXBOX T10. I don't need any transcoding (i think) as most my devices play media through KODI. Thoughts on the hardware? $87 seems preetty decent for a bare bones box with included hdd and windowsOS. About my current setup: Library is on a NAS, livingroom's got a on-24/7-macMini running KODI; bedroom uses FireTV4K with KODI; main PC runs emby server. Started emby on the PC but thought the macMini would be better since it's lower power consumption so I migraged over low and behold OSX has been a pain in the butt, the latest OSX doesn't refresh network directories without unmounting and remounting anymore so when I add new media to the NAS, emby sees it but OSX does not which results in KODI showing the episode but when played it's "missing" pain in the butt I tell you! I've now since migrated the server back to my main PC and everything seems be fine but I'm still looking for a low-power, low-cost, always-running solution. Related question: when I'm streaming my library through the emby app (either on my android phone, my ipad, what have you) does it transcode? -
Does heavily mult-threaded hardware benefit emby Windows server?
kkhan posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
Planning for a new emby server build and wondering whether highly parallel architectures would benefit emby Windows server especially as I do not require transcoding - all my clients are Windows based. The 8 core Avoton board from Asrock has a TDW of 20 watts with a Passmark in excess of 4000 compared to my HP Microserver of 1200 or so. However, the single thread performance is probably no better than the Microserver so I might not see any benefit buy upgrading to an Avoton based system. Another option I am considering is to move to a XEON D-1540 system with TDW of 45 watts which is also 8 core but is also hyper threaded unlike the Avoton but as I do not require transcoding probably I will again see no benefit ... And it is expensive. The biggest performance issue I am seeing at the moment is that the Photo functionality on emby is unusable. Photographs take such a long time to render that clients time out irrespective of platform. I could use lower resolution versions but the whole object is to see my collection of DSLR photographs in glorious 4K. Any experience as to whether the above two options would improve rendering performance for photographs - is that process multi-threaded? -
Would appreciate some advice and help as running out of storage. Have a N54 HP Microserver assembly server which is maxed out at 5x3TB plus a 512GB SSD. Running tRAiD on this array. So need to expand this and the cheapest option appears to be a Direct Attached Storage box (DAS) using eSATA. Seen models from Startech, IcyBox, Hornettek etc all with mixed reviews. Need a plain vanilla version as using tRAID. Auto power up power down, very quiet. Any recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking for a new emby server hardware around 300$. Running Ubuntu Server 15.10. I'd like to transcode 2-4 streams on the same time. 24/7 operation => low power consumption Which hardware could you recommend? What's about the new Intel Nuc: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc6i3syk.html? The CPU also supports quick sync. Cheers

Dear all, I have a project to setup a dedicated emby server, for streaming 1080p videos, to devices live a TV, an iPad or a laptop (no transcoding for the laptop). I looking specifically for a compact and quiet (fanless if possible) hardware configuration. I'm wondering about the Intel NUC. Does it provide enough power to perform 1080p video transcoding, assuming that I'll transcode no more than 1 video at a time ? Which configuration allows to transcode without lagging ? What CPU version (i5/i7) and/or the GPU (Intel HD 5000 / Iris 6100) are enough ? Does anybody have such an experience with NUC as emby servers ? Many thanks in advance. Regards, Carlos

Carlos

Will a new CPU fix my issue or is this a fault, opinions welcome, logs, pics attached
bassistgak posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi, Been having issues with playback stutter, testing below. I'm not sure if its time for an upgrade or if this is a fault that can be resolve, read on and you decide. Test has been performed on a complete fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit SP1 with all updates and all drivers up to date. Emby server: Version 3.0.5597.1 Using Inerstellar 1080p MKV for test file. When running the file through Emby classic (classic is located on the same PC as the Emby server), CPU resources are barely used and video runs great: when running through web browser on Emby sever, CPU usage spikes with ffmpeg.exe and video stutters. Video is running at the highest framerate of 30mbs, but ihave tried various framerates and it has no affect. Logs are attached in case this is a fault. PC specs ( dont laugh, this PC has treated me well) Intel core quad q9400 2.66 8 gig ddr2 Amd radeon hd6450 I guesss there are 2 questions here: 1. Since Emby classic runs fine, why does the Emby Browser browser not, or seem resource hungry when playing the video file? 2. Will upgrading my hardware resolve this? Really want to know before i throw money at new hardware. Thanks for you time and opinions in advance. server-63566439170.txt transcode-0d89b082-efbe-46ac-b6de-1383e5333320.txt transcode-5ec95818-965a-454d-bcc8-cebe6c04914b.txt transcode-16e6db7b-51fa-4ae5-9869-ad6fd5ff62b6.txt transcode-4091e784-c5a9-455e-8f9e-9d4a07bfb5ec.txt transcode-98716041-bb5e-4bba-8c1e-3cf98e91e2a5.txt transcode-af82c4cb-7c42-42ec-a5c7-933ccdec84d7.txt -
Opinions/Suggestions welcome! So finally have a number of years one of my WHS2011 servers has kicked the bucked. Actually, I think just the motherboard quit on me as it will no longer post. It had been running 24/7 and after one of the many Windows updates requiring a restart I can not even get it to post so I can get into the BIOS. Current hardware: Supermicro X8SIL-F Motherboard 4GB RAM Old i3 processor (can't remember exactly what and can't post to figure it out) 1x 1.5TB WD Blue OS 6x Mix of different size and manufacturer drives (Single data pool created using Drive Bender) Budget $700CDN or less to replace Motherboard/RAM/Processor: Possible hardware: ASRock Motherboard 226WS ATX LGA1150 - $219CDN Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1600MHz (KVR16N11H/8) - $86.99CDN - On ASRock Memory QVL list Intel Core i5-4570 3.2Ghz 1150 84W Quad Core processor - $254.99 or Intel Xeon E3-1245V3 Haswell 3.4Ghz 1150 84W Quad Core processor - $349.99 Note: Both processors do not require any specific bios version on the motherboard, which is preferred as I don't have a spare processor to temporarily install in order to update the bios in case I receive a board with an old bios. Primary purpose is MB3 transcoding at least three simultaneous streams (current setup barely did more then 1). Server runs 24/7 running OneDrive & BitSync cloud based applications & maintains routine daily backs ups of multiple PCs on the network. Overkill? Underkill? Do you recommend one process over another, why? The reason for a server based motherboard is WHS2011 is a server OS, so I've had driver issues in the past with running this OS on a non-server board, I want to avoid that issue. As to why I'm running WHS2011, I have two other servers running the same OS and all talk to each other quite well. Also, prefer not to go to Server 2012 with the added expense of the OS as this time. Comments/suggestions/alternatives most welcome! Would like to make the purchase soon as I need to take the working server back to it's home the end of next week. If this is the wrong spot for this, let me know and/or feel free to move it. Thanks for in advance for your thoughts.

How long before MB becomes a piece of hardware that can be purchased and plugged in like an Apple TV or a WD TV or Boxee. It seems to be the next logical step in MB's evolution and would be a hughe leap forward in media streaming / playing devices that are available today. I dont know bugger all about progaming or software etc but surely you could list it as a startup and try to get someone interested in creating a dedicated box. I was just musing and wondered if it had been brought up or even contemplated, i remember in the days of MB2 it was suggested that no way would there be a non WMC dependent version but look how far you have come now. Im not even sure how it would work .. maybe a drone box with all your files on and then an MB head unit that can stream to multiple devices ... what does anyone else think aobut this? has this been raised before ? Just curious

Hello, I've been a computer tech for a number of years, but I haven't really setup an HTPC system apart from a central file server. I was wondering how this setup sounds, or if there is something I missed. The file server is a Thecus N7700 Pro. I need to add a PC to run Mediabrowser server and transcode/stream the content from the N7700. I was thinking of getting an i5 Intel NUC with 8GB of RAM and a small 120GB SSD. It will need to feed 4 streams (me, Mom, 2 kids) simultaneously, either to hardwired xmbc clients or mobile devices over the local LAN. For the clients I was going to use i3 NUCs with XMBC, probably 4GB and 120GB SSDs. They will be wired with ethernet, so I don't have to worry about wi-fi. Does the setup sound powerful enough? Thanks, Simon

I have been using an old Xbox360 with MBC for a while, and it just red ringed and bit the dust. I'm thinking about a small/cost effective build to run MBT. Has anyone tried running MBT on one of Intel's Next Unit of Computing (NUC) devices? The one I was thinking about was the Celeron model (http://tinyurl.com/lz8cwkt). It is a little weak on CPU but it is listed as having a pretty powerful integrated gpu. For a machine that would cost less than $300 and is the size of an apple TV, I'd love for this to be sufficient. I'm planning to run Windows 8 or 8.1. If this won't work, I'll probably go the roku route instead.
