  1. While I know that the focus for GameBrowser as a plugin is to connect an MB client to a local emulator, I would like a way to add Game Platforms and games from the server side that are not necessarily emulated or playable from a client. For example, I would like to be able to add our PlayStation 3 collection to MediaBrowser. Not only would this enable MB users to catalog and show their entire collection, but would enable users to tap into the metadata scraping capabilities. There might have to be some disclaimer or visual indicator that the game is not playable from a client, or maybe would not even show up on a client but only in the server web interface. The next step beyond that would be an option to set a custom Game Platform so that users can specify alternative emulators or niche emulators that GameBrowser does not support out of the box.
  2. I first noticed this issue in the beta for 3.0.5518.3, so I was hoping it would be fixed in time. Now that download and sync are fully functional in the web interface, I am hoping that it will be possible to extend download capabilities to the file types that GameBrowser uses. I was actually hoping to use .gbwin and .gbdos files as zips of entire games and docs to download to the family's laptops on the go, which is how I first found the problem, but downloads don't seem to work for any of the GameBrowser supported file types. I know that the focus for GameBrowser as a plugin is to connect an MB client to a local emulator, but there is a place for being able to download those files to a client system from the server in the first place. Error Example: Snapshot of GetDownload generated by ServiceStack on 2/15/2015 4:31:10 AM view json datasource from original url: http://localhost:8096/Items/f25260d3f7570f57eee03af005910bac/Download?api_key=1b1b5c3468d040d6b0336a5321b80d62& in other formats: json xml csv jsv This reports json data source Response Status Error Code ArgumentException Message Argument not supported: D:\Test Folders\Test Games\PC Games\Aquaria\Aquaria.gbwin Stack Trace [GetDownload: 2/15/2015 4:31:10 AM]: [REQUEST: {Id:f25260d3f7570f57eee03af005910bac}] System.ArgumentException: Argument not supported: D:\Test Folders\Test Games\PC Games\Aquaria\Aquaria.gbwin at MediaBrowser.Model.Net.MimeTypes.GetMimeType(String path) at MediaBrowser.Server.Implementations.HttpServer.HttpResultFactory.GetStaticFileResult(IRequest requestContext, StaticFileResultOptions options) at MediaBrowser.Api.Library.LibraryService.Get(GetDownload request) at lambda_method(Closure , Object , Object ) at ServiceStack.Host.ServiceRunner`1.Execute(IRequest request, Object instance, TRequest requestDto) Errors
  3. I realize the download capabilities are still only in server beta, but games seem to be the only content type that will not download. I'm assuming this is an issue on the GameBrowser side of the equation, but I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts anyone has about whether this is something that is likely to get fixed or if there is anything I should be looking at on my end as a possible culprit. Error Example: Snapshot of GetDownload generated by ServiceStack on 2/15/2015 4:31:10 AM view json datasource from original url: http://localhost:8096/Items/f25260d3f7570f57eee03af005910bac/Download?api_key=1b1b5c3468d040d6b0336a5321b80d62& in other formats: json xml csv jsv This reports json data source Response Status Error Code ArgumentException Message Argument not supported: D:\Test Folders\Test Games\PC Games\Aquaria\Aquaria.gbwin Stack Trace [GetDownload: 2/15/2015 4:31:10 AM]: [REQUEST: {Id:f25260d3f7570f57eee03af005910bac}] System.ArgumentException: Argument not supported: D:\Test Folders\Test Games\PC Games\Aquaria\Aquaria.gbwin at MediaBrowser.Model.Net.MimeTypes.GetMimeType(String path) at MediaBrowser.Server.Implementations.HttpServer.HttpResultFactory.GetStaticFileResult(IRequest requestContext, StaticFileResultOptions options) at MediaBrowser.Api.Library.LibraryService.Get(GetDownload request) at lambda_method(Closure , Object , Object ) at ServiceStack.Host.ServiceRunner`1.Execute(IRequest request, Object instance, TRequest requestDto) Errors
  4. As a temporary solution, you will now need to configure gamebrowser for Mediabrowser Classic manually by editing the xml file. This is a fairly simple process as you just need to edit your xml so it looks like the sample one below, changing the <executable>path</executable> section to the path of your emulator, and adding the appropriate <switches> The xml is found at programdata\mediabrowser-classic\plugins\configurations\gamebrowser.xml, just open it in notepad or something similar. The switches can be found at the bottom of this thread http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/16380-gamebrowser-guide/ <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <GameBrowserSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <GameSystems> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Gamecube</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files\Dolphin\Dolphin.exe</Executable> <Switches>"--exec={rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Nintendo</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\Nestopia V1.36\nestopia.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Nintendo 64</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\Project64 2.1\Project64.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Nintendo Wii</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files\Dolphin\Dolphin.exe</Executable> <Switches>"--exec={rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>PS2</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\PCSX2 1.0.0\pcsx2-r5350.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Sony Playstation</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\ePSXe190\ePSXe.exe</Executable> <Switches>-nogui -loadbin "{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Super Nintendo</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\ZSNES V1.51\zsnesw.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Nintendo DS</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\desmume-0.9.10-win32\DeSmuME_0.9.10_x86.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> <anyType xsi:type="GameSystem"> <Name>Game Boy Advance</Name> <Executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\VisualBoyAdvance-1.8.0-beta3\VisualBoyAdvance.exe</Executable> <Switches>"{rom}"</Switches> </anyType> </GameSystems> <DosGames /> <WinGames /> <EnableQuitKey>true</EnableQuitKey> <SelectedQuitKey>36</SelectedQuitKey> </GameBrowserSettings> sample xml courtesy of @@buddyweiser

    Emulators

Curious is there any way to tie in gamebrowser to the kodi plugin? Can we use the kodi equivalent advance launcher? I've not messed with kodi too much and I've just bought a mini-pc to replace my fire tv stick and want to make a media/ retro gamer station that the family can easily navigate. If someone could give me some ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
  6. I have been experiencing a consistent issue where GameBrowser only identifies half of the roms that I add to my library for any system. If I add 200 roms (within their own folder whose name matches the listing on http://thegamesdb.net/) only 100 posters will show up no matter how many times I scan the library or wipe the xml files and start over and I have to manually identify 100 of those games using the Metadata Manager's Identify tool. It seems to fail mostly on games that have similar titles like "Harry Potter and the ...", or titles that contain other titles in them like "Kingdom Hearts" vs "Kingdom Hearts II". I tried renaming every folder in a single system to include the year on the end like "Kingdom Hearts (2002)". I've never seen that suggested anywhere, but that's what I do with my movie library, but the same titles failed to fetch their metadata. Is there some trick that I am missing? I have included a sample of my folder structure. Thanks.
  7. I would like for Gamebrowser to be updated so that it can again auto play trailers as it once did. Thanks Tester

    GameBrowser Folder Structure?

Currently I have all my SNES games in zipped format all inside one single SNES folder. As I understand correctly, I have to unzip them all so each game is in its separate folder. I've been using RCB and HyperSpin and they both support my current file structure. I wouldn't want to unzip all my games because it will break my current setup. Will there be support for zipped games in the pipeline sometime in the near future? I would love to have my game library be managed by MB together with my movies and tv. Keep up the good work!!! Thanks.

    Gamebrowser Guide

    Gamebrowser The Gamebrowser plugin brings game support to your living room, GameBrowser fetches game art and metadata automatically, and launches games using supported Emby clients. Get started with the correct folder structure The first thing you will want to do is make sure your games have the ideal folder structure, Start with a ROOT Games folder, then each game console should be in its own folder, with each game in their own subfolders. Games > ATARI > Asteroids > Asteroids.a26 > Pitfall > Pitfall.a26 > SNES > Donkey Kong Country > Donkeykongcountry.smc > Super Mario World > Supermarioworld.smc MAME is the one exception to this structure, as you can have all the game .zip files in the same folder Games > MAME > Aliens.zip > Btoads.zip > Dkong.zip Setting Up the Gamebrowser Plugin on the Server Gamebrowser is added to the server via the plugins tab on the server dashboard by navigating to Plugins > Plugin Catalog > Server > Gamebrowser and then clicking Install. Once it completes restart the server. Platform Configuration Continue setup on the server dashboard by navigating to Plugins > My Plugins > Gamebrowser and click + Add next to Game Systems, This page is where the game systems are configured. Start by choosing the path to one of your game folders, and then choosing the appropriate platform from the drop-down box. Then click Save. A UNC path is recommended if you plan to stream games over LAN/WAN connections. More info on using UNC paths //here Repeat this process for each game platform. Adding games to your Library Games are added to your library on the server dashboard by navigating to Library > and clicking + Add Media Library, choose Games from the drop-down box and name your game library, then click + Add next to Folders. Choose the path to the ROOT of your games folder. After the automatic library scan completes, your games should show up in the web client. Setting up Clients to Launch Games Emby Theater Launching games from Emby theater only requires a simple setup of external players. Open EmbyTheater, in the top right corner click on your profile icon in the top right corner, then navigate to Settings > External Players > Add Player Change the Media Type to Game, and the Game system to whatever system you would like to setup. In the Player Path type or paste the location of your emulator. Enter the correct command line argument for your emulator (listed at the bottom of this guide) Click save, and repeat for each game platform Emby Classic In order for games to be recognized in Emby Classic, you will need to install the GameBrowser-Classic plug-in in that app. GameBrowser-Classic can be installed from inside the Emby-Classic config pages by navigating to Plug-ins tab > Plug-in Catalog > GameBrowser-Classic. The plugin is free but requires the server to have a valid supporter key. After the plugin is installed, navigate to Emby Classic Configurator > Plug-ins tab > GameBrowser-Classic > Configure Select the game system you would like to setup, using the button on the right next to executable location, select the location of your emulator. Repeat for each game platform. For the switches section, most emulators will work using "{rom}", other emulators will require special switches, which will be listed at the end of this tutorial. Extra Setup Windows and DOS Games (Emby Classic only) Due to the client-server nature of Emby, to get Windows and DOS games to be visible to the server, you will need to follow this guide. Navigate to your ROOT Games folder, then create folders for Windows and/or DOS, with each game in their own subfolders. If it's a windows game place a game.gbwin file within each game directory. If its a DOS game place a game.gbdos file within each game directory. This file can be anything such as a blank text document or zip file. Just make sure to change the name to game and the extension to gbwin / gbdos. Games > WINDOWS > Baldur's Gate > game.gbwin > Borderlands > game.gbwin > DOS > Zork > game.gbdos > Wing Commander > game.gbdos After this step navigate to Emby Classic Configurator > Plug-ins tab > GameBrowser-Classic > Configure > Windows Games tab Select a game you wish to setup on the left, then click the button on the right next to Local Executable and select the .exe of the game. Repeat for each game. The setup for DOS games is the same as it is for Windows games. Navigate to Emby Classic Configurator > Plug-ins tab > GameBrowser-Classic > Configure > DOS Games tab Select a game you wish to setup on the left, then click the button on the right next to Local Executable and select the .exe of the game. Repeat for each game. Most DOS games don't run well in modern windows PC's. DOSBox is a great tool to overcome that. If DOSBox is configured in GameBrowser-Classic, then any games with a game.gbdos file will be launched through DOSBox. To use DOSBox follow this extra step. Navigate to Emby Classic Configurator > Plug-ins tab > GameBrowser-Classic > Configure > Miscellaneous tab Click the button on the right next to DOSBox and select the DOSBox.exe Emulator Command Line Arguments EMBY CLASSIC USAGE Atari > Stella > "{rom}" Nintendo 64 > Project64 v1.6 or earlier > {rom} > Project64 v1.7 or newer > "{rom}" Nintendo DS > DeSmuME > "{rom}" Nintendo Gamecube > Dolphin > --execute="{rom}" Nintendo GBA > VisualBoyAdvance > "{rom}" Nintendo NES > VirtuaNES > "{rom}" > NEStopia > "{rom}" Nintendo SNES > ZSNES > -m "{rom}" > snes9x > "{rom}" Nintendo Wii > Dolphin > --execute="{rom}" Sega Genesis > Fusion > -fullscreen "{rom}" Sega Dreamcast > NullDC > -config ImageReader:DefaultImage="{rom}" Sega Saturn > Yabause > -a -f -i "{rom} Sony PS1 > ePSXe > -nogui -loadbin "{rom}" Sony PS2 > PCSX2 > --nogui --fullscreen "{rom}" Sony PSP > PPSSPP > "{rom}" EMBY THEATER USAGE NOTE: Each argument needs to be on its own line, so for instance for SNES/zsnes, -m and {path} should be on 2 seperate lines. Like so: -m {path} Atari > Stella > {PATH} Nintendo 64 > Project64 > [PATH] Nintendo DS > DeSmuME > {PATH} Nintendo Gamecube > Dolphin > --execute={PATH} Nintendo GBA > VisualBoyAdvance > {PATH} Nintendo NES > VirtuaNES > {PATH} > NEStopia > {PATH} Nintendo SNES > ZSNES > -m {PATH} > snes9x > {PATH} Nintendo Wii > Dolphin > --execute={PATH} Nintendo Wii U > Cemu > --rom {PATH} Sega Genesis > Fusion > -fullscreen {PATH} Sega Dreamcast > NullDC > -config ImageReader:DefaultImage={PATH} Sega Saturn > Yabause > -a -f -i {PATH} Sony PS1 > ePSXe > -nogui -loadbin {PATH} Sony PS2 > PCSX2 > --nogui --fullscreen {PATH} Sony PSP > PPSSPP > {PATH} With ePSXE if you get an error "PSX Bios not found", use this switch to specify the location of the bios, just change the path to where your bios is located. EMBY CLASSIC USAGE Sony PS1 > ePSXe bios error > -nogui -bios "C:\Program Files\ePSXe 1.8\bios\scph1001.bin" -loadbin "{rom}" EMBY THEATER USAGE Sony PS1 > ePSXe bios error > -nogui -bios "C:\Program Files\ePSXe 1.8\bios\scph1001.bin" -loadbin {PATH}

    Gamebrowser & Atari 2600

Does anyone have Atari 2600 working in Gamebrowser? I'm trying to launch through Mediabrowser Classic but when I click the on the ROM it says 'No Items' The items appear in the web client and I've definitely had Atari 2600 (Stella) working on a previous HTPC build (Emulator on HTPC and ROMS on mediaserver) I've tried the usual switches, {rom}, "{rom}" etc Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, Genesis/Megadrive and PS1 all work fine. Can someone who has this working share their setup please? Thanks
  12. Here are some platform posters I made to match the look of the new genre posters in MediaBrowser 3. I have attached them as a zip file. I only made ones for the platforms I use. I could only include the Nintendo posters in this post. Gamebrowser and sorting Roms

For those of you running Mame, how do you sort your roms? There are like 3k of them and I want maybe 50 games lol. Is there a quick and easy way to weed out all the ones I don't want?
  16. Can we have .cue support added for Sega CD, please? The server is picking up the .bin files just fine but Sega CD requires the cue for games that contain tracks such as .wav, .mp3 etc.

Unable to load ROMs from client PC

I am trying to set up MB3 and MBT. Everything seems to be working fine when I play games from MBT on the server PC itself the game starts with no problems. When I try to play a game on any client PC the emulator launches but it gives an error opening the rom or just never loads it. I have most of my game roms stored on a network share so I tried copying some of them to be stored locally on the server but that still has the same problem. I also tried setting up path substitution but only succeeded in causing the issue on the server as well. This happens on all the emulators I have tried and on 3 different client pcs. MBT is set up identically on the client and the server.

    Game metadata structure and manager

I just updated from MediaBrowser 2.x to MediaBrowser 3 and it's been interesting. A couple of questions that I've tried to search for but did not find exact answers to. 1) After seeing a comment from back in October that Gamebrowser-meta should not be used to manage game metadata, is there a metadata manager with a nice interface (like Gamebrowser-meta or in the vein of metabrowser) that will be produce metadata and images that Gamebrowser likes? I realize Gamebrowser can parse and get metadata on its own, but I would like a manager to help me manually tweak metaadata as I would like. I love how metabrowser (and formerly Gamebrowser-meta) can auto retrieve the information but make it easy for me to use custom images or modify information to my preferences. I will admit, Gamebrowser so far as taken my old file system structure and seems to be reading it no problem, so not sure what the exact incompatibility was. 2) Failing that, if I am forced to let Gamebrowser auto retrieve meta data and manually modify it, can someone provide a detailed description of all the metadata / image files that Gamebrowser looks for and uses? I realize the tutorial shows images of the folder structure and along with the configuration options, it's very useful, but I was hoping for specifics, such as what image files Gamebrowser will use. The tutorial shows a "folder" and a "thumb" in each platform. Does it allow other image names for platforms? And there were no image files in the game folders themselves. Are there any supported? I can play around with these things from my old Gamebrowser-meta produced workspace, but I was hoping someone would provide (or point me to) a more detailed explanation. Thanks for the great plugin! Just looking forward to having Gamebrowser back to working order after I finish the configuration (getting the metadata in order would just be a bonus).

Help with Mame GB setup please

I'm struggling to get mame setup in GameBrowser. It doesn't look right to me. I have Mame folder in my Games folder on the server, then I can see every folder under the sun that is in the Mame folder, and I'm pretty sure that it's just roms folder I need. Can anyone help me out please Thanks in advance Cheese
  22. OK so I am really stuck, I have been using media browser and gamebrowser for years now and love it. I finally thought it was time to upgrade to media browser 3 but now I can’t get gamebrowser working at all. I have been through the tutorial and I am pretty sure I have done everything right. I have also been though the forum and found no answer to my problems. First I wanted to use media browser classic for went though the set up for that. I have got it to the point where i can see the all my games but I get an error when i try and run them. "An unknown error prevented this game from launching" "An unknown error prevented this game from launching" I’ve tried all of these steps stop server delete library.db delete servers GameBrowser.xml delete all .xml files contained anywhere in your game libraries delete MBC GameBrowser.xml start server re-add all game directories to the Gamebrowser server dashboard config wait for scan to complete launch MBC configurator and add emulators to the various platforms. Play game. But I still get the same error. I am pretty sure my folder structure is ok. So after trying many times to get it working, I thought I would try in media browser theatre but i have another issue there and that is when I try to set up the external player it won’t let me select a system when I press on the + or – is does nothing. I could really use some help with if anyone has any ideas? I have also attached some screenshots. Thanks

    Gamebrowser and PS3/Xbox360

Just wondering if there is a reason that Gamebrowser doesn't have an option for either the PS3 or Xbox 360? I know that there isn't an emulator for these, but I don't play games via MB3 anyway. I just use it as a catalogue and it is pretty good at that.
  24. As the title of this post states, MB server refuses to pull metadata for my entire Nintendo 64 collection. I can manually identify the game through the editor and then all meta is pulled correctly. This is going to take me forever to do this to every game I have for the N64. Other systems seem to function as expected. The majority of the ROMS are identified correctly with only roughly 20% of them needing manual identification from me. The only thing that is different in my N64 setup is that all ROMS have been left in the .zip format. Could this be causing the issue?
  25. I have Gamebrowser III (the latest release as of this post: 2.9.5184.24602). I have the Arcade directory setup in the Library as a Games folder to the UNC path where the ROMs are stored. I can access the UNC path without issue. The ROMs folder contains several zip files. I have the GameBrowser III plugin also setup pointing to the same Game Platform folder. When I go into 'Arcade' which is what the library is named in MB, there are no items. I have tried to rescan the libraries many times without any success. I even moved all of the zips out and back into the ROMs folder performing a re-scan operation each time. This configuration *was* working prior to me moving the share (and updating the library and plugin paths) to the new location. Since the move, I have deleted all of the meta data which was in that folder thinking that perhaps it was tripping this up. Help?
