  1. Server version: 4.2.0.40 Logs: Available upon request I have some items that will not add to any collections. I locate the item (movie or TV show) in the library or by searching, click the checkbox in the web interface, Choose "Add to collection", then either choose an existing collection or type a new collection name, then click Ok. For affected media items, it is not added to the collection. If a new collection was being created, it is created without any new media items in it. For unaffected media items, the item is added without issue. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to which items are affected. The only thing they seem to have in common is that they were all previously in a "To Watch" collection and then vanished from there some time ago (maybe 6-12 months). I saw that some collection fixes were being planned for the latest 4.2.0.40 release, so I waited until now to report it. After upgrading this morning, I'm still seeing this problem. As far as I know, none of the affected items are "multiple version" media items. Thanks!

    Music Collections

So I started trying to use Emby's Collections feature. Emby's WebApp interface allows building collections containing movies, entire tv series, a season of a tv series, episodes, artists and music albums, tracks... It seems any media item can be included on a collection if you press the "more" menu. Resulting collections can, thus, contain various kinds of media items. When navigating throughout the interface, though, only movie libraries will present "Collections" as submenu. Should I stick to movies on a collection? Is it ok to create music album collections? Is there a reason why there is no "Collections" item on music library submenus?
  3. Emby Theater in Windows 10 no longer able to remove a movie that inadvertently added itself to a collection. The "Remove from collection" no longer displays. I will completely delete the Collection and recreate it to see if the movie adds itself once again. It would be easier if I could remove it from the menu. Thank you.
  4. Plug in idea: Have the option to create a collection when looking at an actor’s credits from a movie. For example, when checking out the cast of The Big Lebowski and looking at Jeff Bridges’ information one finds that they have 8 movies in which he appears. When they would click on the “…More” button one of the options would be to create a collection of the movies that he is in. By clicking on the collections option, the user (admin) would create a custom collection titled “Jeff Bridges Collection”. So this: Becomes this
  5. Hi, As show in the picture attached to this post, I have a collection that appear multiples times. Each time that I reboot the server, a « new entry » appears. I have check in the roaming directory and I have just one folder with one xml and the xml is normal, I don’t have multiples entries... I have try to make a « sql » cleanup, but without success... It’s make it just with Spider-Man one. I have deleted all and create a new entry, but same result at the end... Some have a idea? Thank you!

    collections and main Movie file

@@Happy2Play I run my emby server on a Linux server, which is why I am posting here. Last year I had my movies in collections and those collections were in my movie folder. So when I opened my main movie folder i wouldn't see 4 Indiana Jones movies I saw the one folder with all the movies in it and I also had them show up in collections top menu select. I had to move some files around in August 2019 and now when I add movies to a collection they only show up in the top collections menu option and then not 100%. I even went in and changed the file structure on some collections to see if that would fix it and it didn't. Is it me? Was this changed in an update and I missed the note? I really liked the collections showing up in my main movie folder. My file structure was and still is simple. If there is a place for this log, I have no clue where to find it. When I first started using Emby my file structure was: Movies ----->movie_1 ----->movie_2 ----->movie_3 Then I changed a few to see if that would fix it to: Movies ----->movie_collection ---------->movie_1 ---------->movie_2 ---------->movie_3 I have attached two files of images that show the difference between the two screens from July 2019 to when I moved files around in August 2019 Old_layout is the first file structure pre-August 2019 and new_layout is what I have now. I like the way the old_layout is set up. It kept my movies cleaner and collections together in an easy place to find them since some of my movies are in one collection but have different names. (IE Star Wars Saga - Rogue One, Solo, Star Wars 1-8) Thanks in advance for you help. I hope it I can get it back to the old way. I really liked that.
  7. Hi All - I just re-installed my Windows 10 OS on my media server, and after restoring my emby backup via the addon, I've noticed that in the web interface, the collections item is now called 'Collections1'. Everything seems to be working fine, with the exception of the folder name. I'm not sure what's driving that name, but here is a screenshot of my collections folder, which is just named 'collections'

Hello everyone. I use last stable emby server and Kodi 18. Some of my emby collections doesn't appear in the "saga" Kodi folder. I don't know why. Any advice ?

    Collection Years

I would like to be able to display the year range of a collection! Example: Harry Potter Collection 2001-2011
  10. Hey guys, decided to revamp my own personal content, so I figured I'd share it with you as well. I know a few of the users on here are interested, so here it is. Let me know what you think.
  11. Hello, I’m trying to wrap my head around the Collections features in Emby. I’ve read through the documentation and understand that I can either manually setup collections or I can use the AutoBoxSet plugin. What I cannot tell is if I can choose to show items on their own and in a collection. For instance, I want to make a James Bond film collection. And want all the Bond films to be in it. But I also want those Bond films to show up in the main movie library when I’m browsing everything looking for something to watch. Is this possible? Or when I add something to a collection, will it be removed from the library view? Secondly, I’m curious as to what other options there are for creating collections. For instance, I also want to make a Christmas/Holiday movie collection. What’s the best way of doing this? If I add tags or genres, can I use either of these to make a collection? Is there a better way of doing this? Lastly, is it possible to “import” (for lack of a better term) data from either Plex or Kodi? Meaning, if I have Genre data for Christmas, or Playlists in either of these, I don’t suppose there’s any way to get that into my Emby info? I know it’s a long shot but thought I’d ask. Thanks so much in advance!

    More /Collections Endpoints

I'm noticing that the Collections endpoints are fairly limited I would like to see: GET /Collections that obviously retrieves all collection resources. GET /Collections/{id} that retrieves a single collection resource. Those are the most important that are missing. Thanks in advance
  13. So, I just watched "The Hunger Games" with cinema mode enabled and Emby decided to show me the following (local) Trailers: Hunger Games Pt 4, Ant Man, Hunger Games Pt 2, Hunger Games Pt 3, Captain America; The First Avenger - first of all that made for a very boring selection, but it would also have spoiled me parts of the movie if I hadn't seen it before. So maybe it would be an good option to ignore trailers for movies in the same collection as the film I'm going to watch? As a second step you could also limit the number of trailers Emby chooses from any collection. This would make for a greater variety, and prevent emby from showing multiple trailers for the same movie series.
  14. Trying to create a Movie Collection for the following: 300 (1080p version) 300 Rise of the Empire (1080p version) 300 Rise of the Empire (3D version) The two versions for the 300 Rise movie are in the same folder so I can use the "Version" drop-down to select which one to watch. This is working correctly. The problem is when adding the movies to a Collection, only the 300 movie gets added. I've looked at xml for the collection created. The 300 movie is there as well as the 300 Rise 3D version movie. The 1080p version of 300 Rise is not. I've tried manually adding the 1080p version to the xml - No Luck though. 300: Rise of an Empire 300: Rise of an Empire

    Sort Order

Either I can't find what I need or don't understand what I'm looking at. (probably the second) I have several movies that I have put into a manual collection. The movies are also included in smaller automatically generated collections where the sort order is unimportant. The release date of the movies is not the correct chronological viewing order. I entered a "sort name" in the metadata so the collection would be properly listed (Display order: Sort name) when viewing the collection. Unfortunately, the addition of the "Sort name" changed the sequence in the main "Movies" folder so they are now not alphabetical by filename. This makes it a little difficult to locate movies that are assigned to the collection without actually going to the colleciton. Unless you know that a specific movie is part of the collection you won't find it with the alphabetical filename sort. You have to know how the "sort name" was structured. Is there someway that the movies can be sorted by "sort name" in the collection folder and file name in the "Movies" folder? ie.. separate display orders depending on where the movie is being used Thanks
  16. I renamed one of my libraries (from Animated - Movies to Movies - Animated), but it seems that it now cannot detect my collections. The collections are still showing in the user folder (C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\data\collections) and if I look at any of the XML files they still show all the proper paths to the media. When viewing my library through the My Media section on the web app, if I go over the Collections tab there is nothing there. I'm on the latest version of the server (4.1.1.0)

    Movie Collections not working

I'm running version Version 4.1.0.26 on a Synology 918+ My libraries are with Metadata savers Nfo. When I view the libraries from the web app or from Emby Theater none of the Movie files are in collections. I have "Group items into collections" turned on. If I select "Collections" from the menus at the top of the page, nothing is shown, the page is empty. If I edit the metadata or view the Nfo file I can see the collection data. The Gui has "TheMovieDb Collection Id:" set. The Nfo files have <collectionnumber>86311</collectionnumber> and <set>The Avengers Collection</set> All Movie files are in their own individual subfolders inside "Movies". I have tried deleting all the Nfo files, and scanning the library with "Replace all metadata". This replaced all the Nfo files, but collections still do not show. Any idea?
  18. Is there a way I can hide the menu items "Collections" and "Folders" within the movie section (see screen below)? In the WEB APP I can use the custom CSS function: button.emby-tab-button:nth-child(4) { display:none; } button.emby-tab-button:nth-child(7) { display:none; } but this doesn't have effect in iOS and Apple TV apps. Is there a setting I have missed or can this be done in an other way? Why I like to hide these items? I don't use collections at all because they still can't be backed up so I need to reproduce them every time I set up a fresh Emby server. Anybody?
  19. Hi everyone. I use TinyMediaManager to do all of my metadata. I happen to move my files around a lot based on my own organizational madness, lol. This would KILL Emby's collections method. I switched over from Plex a few days ago and this was maddening because I was used to using tags. So I wrote an export template for TinyMediaManager that exports a list of movies in xml form. I wrote my template to conform to Emby's collection.xml scheme and placed the xml in a "CollectionName [boxset]" folder in the Collections folder. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked. So, I can rearrange my files at will, use whatever folder and naming scheme that I wish, replace files with better quality rips, re-tag or rename, or pretty much do whatever i want. I just thought that I'd share my methods for people in the same situation. I have several MoviesFolders though, including a folder containing all the movies that I haven't watched yet. There's also a folder of movies that I consider temporary residents on my hard drive. TinyMediaManager keeps it's export templates in a folder named "templates" in the main program folder. In this folder, I had to create a folder named "EmbyCollectionXML". In that folder, I need 2 files. I need a "template.conf" file and a "list.jmte" file. TinyMediaManagerFolder\templates\EmbyCollectionXML\ In the conf file I needed the following: name =EXCEL list type=movie list=list.jmte extension=xml description=This template exports a valid Emby collections.xml file In the list.jmte I needed the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Item> <LockData> true </LockData> <LocalTitle>Collection Title</LocalTitle> <DisplayOrder>PremiereDate</DisplayOrder> <CollectionItems> ${foreach movies movie} <CollectionItem> ${foreach movie.mediaFiles mediaFile} ${if first_mediaFile}<Path>${mediaFile.path}\\${mediaFile.filename}</Path>${end} ${end} </CollectionItem> ${end} </CollectionItems> </Item> This template exports an xml that writes the path for every one of your movies inside a CollectionItem. In TinyMediaManager, I simply filter the list by tags or by "datasource" or by whatever I want, then I export the list using my template. Open that xml and change "Collection Title" to whatever the name of my Collection will be. Rename the xml to "Collection Title.xml" Create a folder inside your Emby Collections folder: \Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections\Collection Title [boxset]\ Place your xml in that folder. I put a folder.jpg in there too for my collection. I refreshed my Collections in Emby and BOOM: There it was. I don't know if this will be helpful for anyone else, but that's how I do it for my custom collections that plugins might not pick up and to deal with me moving stuff around occasionally. It's best for big collections or random custom collections. Oh, and the reason I can't just filter by tags on the movies screen is because I'm using the Tizen version of Emby client on a Samsung Smart TV. That means if I filter and there aren't enough movies, I can't get back to that "Filters" button. It's been discussed in another thread.
  20. UPDATE: Waiting a few hours seems to have resolved all of these issues. Summary I created collections (web), The collections appear duplicated, I remove one, Several are removed instead of just that one, I view through the phone app and everything is fine for a bit, Now I can't log in? I created a few collections last night, say: Westerns Samurai Animation and six or so others. This morning I had duplicates of each collection, identical contents when I accessed the server through the web. I tried adding a new image to one of the collections. The new image only affected one of the pairs of collections, so they seemed like completely distinct copies. I picked one of the duplicate collections and deleted it using the web browser - the three dot menu on the collection and delete. I was expecting that to just remove that duplicated collection (but accepted the risk that it might delete the duplicate and the original as well). I was surprised when it actually deleted several (5-6?) completely unrelated collections as well. Is there anything I might be doing that's getting my collections.xml file just randomly mangled? Note - I've read a few other threads, but this was not triggered by me moving media files, and I'm just using movies, it's NOT a mixed content library with any folders named 'collections' or anything. Typical examples would be: The "Westerns" collection included: \movies\0 - 9, A - B\310 to yuma (1957)\310 to yuma (1957).m4v \movies\M - N\magnificent seven (1960)\Magnificent Seven (1960).mp4 "Samurai" included: \movies\S\samurai spy (1965)\samurai spy (1965).m4v \movies\E - H\hidden blade (2004)\hidden blade (2004).mp4 And others... but since the collections disappeared it's nontrivial to recreate all the entries. This is the closest I've paid attention, but in the past I could have sworn I've had collections randomly disappear on me. Is disappearing collections a known issue? Thanks for your time, welcome any requests for additional debugging. ... Wait a second. This is really weird. Logging in to the server on my phone (rather than through a Chrome web browser on Windows) suddenly reveals all the original collections just as I created them. ... And moments later I can no longer log in through either interface. Strange. embyserver.txt embysvr.stdout.txt embysvr.stderr.txt
  21. So it would be nice if we could choose to hide libraries from the top instead of being forced to see it. See like in my case I would like to have movie collections and playlist but without them appearing on the top in libraries. And I was thinking that it would be a nice feature to be able to hide them if preferred because you can already access them from other areas. For examples for playlist you can just go under the music library and tap on playlist, or the collections is under movies. I'm not saying to completely remove them but to give the option to hide them. That would be a feature I would like to see in Emby
  22. So, I'm still going through the tweaks and fixes I need post 4.0.0.2 upgrade and started working on collections. There was an odd duplication bug for auto-boxsets that have the old "[MB Auto Set]" in the name - the post-update rescan added a new copy of the collection without "[MB Auto Set]" but both were showing up in the Collections. The problem is that when clicking on either one and clicking edit metadata, both were pointing to the same folder instead of one to the old, one to the new. Easy enough to resolve, deleted any collections that had [MB Auto Set] and rescanned. Problem solved. But then I noticed that any collection I previously had made manually (i.e. not linked to a TMDB id) doesn't show up in the collections view anymore. I checked the server and the collections are still in the directory. The xml and images are still there. And even the Metadata manager still shows them. Did something change in the XML format that I need to update? I did notice that in the Metadata Manager, when I go to expand any of my manual collections, they don't show any movies under them unlike the auto collections.
  23. ISSUES Genres are messed up. I now have a "Science Fiction" genre and a "Science-Fiction" genre. I have zero movies or tv shows using "Science-Fiction" with the hyphen in the metadata. I specifically have to change this for every single science fiction tv show I add to my library because TVDB uses the name with a hyphen whereas TMDB does not and I want everything to match. When I click on "Science-Fiction" genre under Genres, it brings up all my science fiction movies/shows before the update. I double checked the metadata and nfos and I have it listed as just "Science Fiction" for all those movies/shows. But I also have a "Science Fiction" genre under Genres. If I click on that, it brings up the two science fiction movies I added to the library today post-update. So unless you have a fix, I'm going to have to go through almost 1000 movies and shows and delete the current science fiction genre in the metadata and then re-add it so they all are grouped into the same genre. No filter or sorting in Favorites depending on how you reach Favorites. 1. Click on Movies or TV Shows under My Media on the home screen and then click on Favorites from the top bar, it gives you no sorting or filtering. 2. If you click on Favorites from the home screen at the very top (Home / Favorites) then click on Favorite Movies or Favorite TV Shows, it will give you the filter and sorting options. This happens when using a browser on my desktop and also in the Android app. When you access Collections from the Home Screen under My Media, there's a single random year listed under every title of each collection. I can't make any sense what the date corresponds to. It's not the year of the earliest or latest movie in the collection. The date doesn't show up under the name of the collection if you go to Movies or TV Shows under My Media first and then select Collections from the top bar. All my chapter image extractions just disappeared. Not a big deal. But I'm wondering if all those GBs of images were deleted or do I need to go in and manually do so? I'm running the scan again right now. OPINIONS Totals are no longer listed. No idea how many movies or tv shows/episodes I have unless I go into statistics which I do not like at all. I think totals should be listed on just about everything. Movies, TV Shows, Collections, Favorites, Genres, etc. The big white bars with arrows to horizontal scroll in various places needs a redesign imo. The look seems out of place with the rest of it. I read in one of your comments to another user about the fact that there were so many fundamental changes to the database that its impossible to go back to a previous version. I think in the future it would be wise to give a pop up warning for automatic update users saying that it won't be possible to roll back to a previous version, remind users to do a backup and give the user a chance to defer the update until they are 100% ready. Only on the big updates that really change things like 4.0 did.

    Sports Collection

Could we please get a sports collection type? Would like to build a collection that worked like Sport - year -- round ---session (optional) I would use this for the various racing series that i collect, but I could imagine that it would be useful for many other sports I'm not sure about metadata sources, tbh I'd be happy to manage the metadata myself as a start.
  25. This is a bit of a weird one. I have one particular movie (Ant-Man and the Wasp) that I cannot add to any Collection. When I add it, the "Items Added" message pops up but the movie never shows up in the intended Collection. I can add any other movie just fine, but not that one. The format is .mkv. I tried this in existing collections and created a new test collection, and it never shows up in any, even though other movies do. Are there any restrictions in regard to file format that would prevent it from adding to any given Collection or something else that I'm missing? Thanks.
