Hey, folks. Starting a few days ago, I am all of a sudden unable to cast to my Chromecast from my Android. I am still able to do so on my iPad. I've rebooted all devices. This is happening with two separate Chromecasts (one a Chromecast ultra, one a gen 2 Chromecast). It does not show up in the list for Emby. I am still able to cast to the device from other apps (Netflix). Emby server version: 4.0.2.0 Below are two screenshots. The first showing the iPad where you can see "Living Room TV" and the second from my Samsung Galaxy S7 where it is missing. Any suggestions? iPad: Android:

Hi all, I hope there is someone that can help me. I just installed Emby Server 3.5.3 on a Windows 2012 server. All seems to work fine except streaming to a Chromecast. When selecting a Chromecast on my iPhone it just displays "Ready to cast" and then nothing happens. In the attached EmbyServer log file I started to stream to my Chromecast 20:44 (see also below). For further info, I have also attached two ffmpeg log files. 2018-12-20 20:44:40.496 Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 204 to 10.0.0.63. I tried to cast a show to my Gen1 tonight. It's not listed as a choice in Emby. It's listed and works with Plex, Netflix, and Youtube. I tried the Android app and Emby web. Am I missing something or is it just not supported with Emby? It works now. I hadn't used this ccast in a long time (2+ years). This morning I turned it on and it ran an update. It's now listed in Emby and I can successfully cast to it (via the Android app).

I'm trying to connect to the hosted web app through HTTPS, because Chromecast now needs it to work properly. I'm told to select my server, and it won't connect to it. I can connect to it just fine on HTTP. So, does anyone know what's wrong and how I fix it?

Hey Emby community. I have diagnosed a problem with my Emby environment, however I can't come up with a swift and elegant solution to it. First, some background: I'm running Emby in a home server which comes with 2 limitations 1. My IP is dynamic 2. I CANNOT open any ports. This is NOT possible with my ISP (I highlighted this in bold to indicate that this really isn't a solution to my problem, I'm looking for a different solution) To mitigate these problems I have a VPS running in the cloud (with a public IP) for a few euros per month, which handles all incoming traffing through remote port forwarding. This is done using SSH tunnels (background on that here if you're interested: https://www.ssh.com/ssh/tunneling/example.) This actually works really well and is quick enough to stream full HD content, the issue however comes when you start chromecasting content. If you use a chromecast, the IP address is passed along to the chromecast, which is a non-accessible IP. Example: My home IP is 1.2.3.4 The Emby VM has IP: 192.0.0.10 assigned to it. The chromecast will now be passed the IP: 1.2.3.4, which it can't connect to, because the ports on it can't be opened. This also shows in my logs (using a local chromecast): 2019-01-07 16:22:51.255 Info HttpServer: HTTP GET http://192.168.xxx.xxx:8096/emby/Videos/74ba4614749a59664393502333685647/stream.mp4?Static=true&mediaSourceId=74ba4614749a59664393502333685647&deviceId=U0hJRUxE&Tag=4791f2f25d6e3fdbd691f3be6954d613. Host=192.168.xxx.xxx:8096, Connection=keep-alive, Origin=https://mediabrowser.github.io, Accept-Encoding=identity;q=1, *;q=0, User-Agent=Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 8.0; Build/OPR6.170623.010) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.47 Safari/537.36 CrKey/1.36.140076, Range=bytes=0-, chrome-proxy=frfr, Accept=*/*, Accept-Language=en-US, CAST-DEVICE-CAPABILITIES={"bluetooth_supported":true,"display_supported":true,"hi_res_audio_supported":false,"remote_control_input_supported":false,"touch_input_supported":false} Because of this, the chromecast will simply play nothing (and it won't give out any error either for some reason). The solution I want is for me to be able to select either a domain name or another IP address to pass when chromecasting. For example. http://publicdomain.ext:8096 would work. http://4.3.2.1:8096 would work How can I achieve this? Thanks in advance.

Hey all. Emby server is struggling to play 44.1/16 WAVs to chromecasts. I'm running Emby server on Raspberry Pi, connecting to my NAS through NFS. I have added a direct path to the share like this: nfs://xxx.xxx.x.xx/Music/Music/ When i cast from my Android phone, or from the web interface via my laptop, the WAV stutters in a very particular way; it gets to 6 seconds and pauses. it gets to around 27 seconds and pauses it then most of the time plays the rest of each track fine. when playing through the web interface the progress bar shows the track playing (in green) and what i suspect is the track buffering (in grey). If it is buffering then what i see on the progress bar matches the bullet points above - the green bar catches up with the grey bar a couple of times then the grey bar zooms off. I've ruled out: my synology nas (monitored whilst casting, no performance issues) my wifi (i can cast the same WAV using DLNA via BubbleUpnp with no performance issues) my pi (monitored whilst casting, no performance issues) Have i got the nfs path incorrect? Is there something else i should do? Logs attached. Any help appreciated - thanks. embyserver.txt

Emby doesn't fully disconnect from Chromecast after exiting
cnstarz posted a topic in General/Windows
Good morning, Emby Team. I recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR-75X580E and I was having a problem where the TV was automatically switching to the built-in Chromecast source randomly and automatically turning itself on randomly and displaying the built-in Chromecast source. I've narrowed the problem down to Emby as it only application that stays connected/reconnects to the built-in Chromecast even after the Emby Android app has been disconnected from the Chromecast and exited. After disconnecting Emby from the Chromecast and exiting the Emby app in Android, after a few minutes the TV will automatically switch back to the built-in Chromecast which displays the black Emby screen indicating that Emby has somehow reconnected and casted to the built-in Chromecast. These are the steps I take to close down the Emby Android app: Stop playback of any media Click the Chromecast icon and select "Disconnect" Click "Yes" at the "Would you like to close Emby on the device?" prompt At this point, the Emby app is still open and displayed on the phone despite just clicking to "Yes" in Step 3 to close Emby on the device, but is seemingly not connected to any Chromecasts. The built-in Chromecast is also no longer displaying Emby which also indicates that it is not connected to Emby at this time. I click the Home button on Android to go to the Home screen, and a few minutes later the TV switches back to the built-in Chromecast and displays the black Emby screen indicating that Emby somehow reconnected to the Chromecast by itself without any user interaction. The only work-around I've found that prevents Emby from reconnecting to the Chromecast on its own is: Re-open Emby app in Android Reconnect it to the built-in Chromecast (don't play any media) Disconnect it again from the Chromecast by clicking the Chromecast icon and select "Disconnect" Again clicking "Yes" at the "Would you like to close Emby on the device?" prompt Force close the Emby app in Android How can I fix this permanently so that Emby does not reconnect to the built-in Chromecast after I've already disconnected from it? It's kind of a hassle (and a first-world problem, honestly) to have to force-close the Emby app in Android to get it to do what it told me it was already going to do but didn't do. Thank you!- 9 replies

How to properly configure dockerize Emby to use Chromecast on internal network?
benze posted a topic in Web App
I'm fairly new to Emby and trying to understand what configuration I need to do to get Emby Android App to cast to my Chromecast. I'm set up as follows: Router: 192.168.1.254 Docker Engine 192.168.1.197 Dockerized Emby: 172.16.0.3 Nginx-reverse-proxy: 172.16.0.4 (Exposed port 80) Currently, I have my Emby server (port 8096) reverse proxied via Nginx, and Nginx port 80 exposed on my Docker Engine. This allows me to access the Emby server at: 192.168.1.197:80 via a fqdn of emby.domain.com. (The FQDN is mapped via dnsmasq in my router). When I configure my app to use emby.domain.com, it is able to stream video to the app without problems. However, if I try to Cast to my Chromecast, I see the cast app on my TV, but it unable to connect to my phone. I've read a few other posts on this issue, and it seems that the Chromecast is unable to connect to my Emby server. Indeed, if I expose Emby's 8096 port on my Docker Engine and use 192.168.1.197:8096 as my server address in the app, the Chromecast is able to connect properly. I have also tried adding a rule to my router's iptables redirecting all traffic from my Chromecast destined to 172.16.0.3 to 192.168.1.197. That works as well. Consequently, I have come to the conclusion that the App is telling the Chromecast to find Emby at 172.16.0.3:8096. I've looked at my Configuration page in the Emby server, but not sure what I need to specify to get this working. At the moment, I have: LAN Networks: 192.168.1.0/24, 172.0.0.0/8 Local http: 8096 Public http port: 8096 External domain: <blank> Enable automatic port mapping: <checked> I can't imagine that the correct solution is to use an iptables rule. How/what is the correct configuration to get this to work? Incidentally, I'm only looking to use Emby locally at the moment. Thanks, Eric -
Greetings - Just did a clean Win10 install. Installed EMBY, fresh, and pointed library back to my media. I am now unable to stream to Chromecast. Scenario: Open EMBY app on daughters iPhone, click 'play-on' TV icon - it shows "Living Room TV- Chromecast" and will connect, but any attempt to play media results in spinning circle. Open EMBY app on my Pixel 2XL, click 'play-on' TV icon - it shows "Living Room TV- Chromecast" and will connect, but any attempt to play media results in spinning circle. Open EMBY on PC click 'play-on' TV icon - it DOES NOT show "Living Room TV- Chomecast". For the apps, we are connecting to my EMBY server by name. For EMBY on PC, I'm accessing via the "In-Home (LAN) access" attached logs... Help, please. Thanks!!!!

Hello, I am really new in emby. I am switching from kodi and plex to this one. The story: in my living room is a tablet on the wall to control my smart home. I will upgrade it to multimedia station. So there is a new link to emby and the user should chose movie from NAS. This movie now should started directly on chromecast. At the moment you have to chose chromecast every time and you have to confirm it every time. But the tablet shall never be the player. It's just the controller. So, is there a way to define all multimedia files should be streamed to chromecast? And just in case there is no chromecast, play them locally (or just give an exception). Best, dwi

Hello all, I'm running Emby server version 3.5.2.0 on Windows and mainly use it through 2 chromecasts on the same network. The past three days however I have not been able to see my chromecasts in the "available devices" list using my Android phone. I thought it might be my chromecasts themselves but I can cast youtube and spotify to the same chromecast with no issues. My Fiance (fiancee?) can cast the emby server to the same chromecasts using her iPhone. When viewing the information in the server dashboard I can see where her phone direct plays to the "emby for chromecast 2.1.0" I've also tried using the direct IP address through my phone and Firefox browser to bypass the App, but I am still not able to see any chromecasts. I've also tried deleting all the devices in the server dashboard, including my phone. The strange thing is that my DLNA TV is now always an option to cast to, even while powered off. I apologize if this is in the wrong topic, as I'm not sure if the problem lies in my app, server, or chromecast. Thanks for any help! ffmpeg-transcode-fcdb8e47-eade-4c4f-b25a-ed2aa2375e0e.txt

When casting a music album or a genre or a shuffle to Chromecast from Android app or Android Chrome, first track is played accordingly but streaming stops by 2 or 3 seconds after the second track starts. Chromecast displays the second track info but music stops. Server log file attached embyserver-63662580578.txt

OK - this is super WEIRD!!! I've just noticed when I use Chromecast from my iphone to my TV and play a movie trailer from my movies on my EMBY library, the movie trailer does not play, but instead a video file from my music collection plays instead (an R.E.M music video). When I disconnect from my Chromecast connection and try the movie trailer again, it plays perfectly on my IPhone. This ONLY happens when I am Casting to my Chromecast device. It plays the same music video for all my movie trailer selections (any movie I choose when Casting). But when I disconnect from Chromecast the trailers play fine. This was working perfectly over the past few days. Any ideas folks? This is super weird. Thanks Rob

Hello, I am currently experiencing issues with the playback of Emby audio to a Chromecast Audio device. I use both the iOS and Android Apps and both have the same issue (also seen and tested on Google Chrome). When starting a playlist based on Shuffle (artist) or simply an album and casting this to my Chromecast audio the audio/stream stops after playing the first track. There is usually about 5 seconds left on the track but it cuts off completely. The next track is not started automatically and the playlist (which you usually see when playing on the local device: ipad/android) is empty. Simply pressing the "Next" button solves the playback and the next song will start, but this song also stops 5 seconds before the end. My wife doesn't seem to like having to press the next button after every song ;-) The versions which I am using are: Emby Server (Synology Based) - Version 3.3.0.0 Emby for iOS 1.4.9 Emby for Android Mobile 2.9.90 Firmware Chromecast audio: 1.30.111140 Both the Chromecast audio and the emby server have been restarted several times. I've uploaded the system log but I can't see a reference to the next song which is to be played.

My chromecast does appear, however when I select it, the emby interface just spins for a bit (the multicolored spinning circles), and the device seems to respond, but then fails. I've been using it for about a year now without issues but it failed over the weekend. I used it on Saturday (March 10th) without any issues and it wouldn't work at all on Monday evening until now. My chromecast is not what I would consider a typical chromecast device. It's a Vizio M50 smartTV, which actually has a chromecast built into it (ie not a dongle that just plugs into it). I have tried from the chrome browser on my MacBook Pro (web interface), an Android tablet (admittedly running an older version of android), an iPhone 6s and an iPhone 5s, all of which are using the newest released version of the app of their respective systems (Android and iOS). They all do the exact same thing. If the TV is powered off, starting chromecast will trigger the TV to power on (which is as it should, and is really nice), and normally it would then show an information screen that corresponds to what I'm looking at in the app, however the TV just shows a black screen. After about a minute the spinning circles stop on emby and the TV goes to the google wallpapers (a default when you don't give it anything to cast). I have power cycled the TV (completely unplugged it from power), the computer that emby server is running on (windows 10; full system reboot), the router (also full power removal), and all of the devices I've tried. Other than that, emby does seem to be functioning, meaning that it will play in the browser or app on all of the devices listed, it just won't cast it. I think I'm in the correct place as it doesn't seem to be tied to any one device or app. I do not believe I changed any settings between Saturday and Monday in emby or on any of my devices. My log files are attached, in which I replicated the issue at least twice. I did enable Debug Logging before I tried it the second time. I think this is the correct location of the forum as it doesn't seem to be related to playback or the apps, just to the chromecast functionality itself. Feel free to move it or ask me to post if it's not

I was having trouble with chromecast via the Android app from my Linux server, but manually updating to 3.3.1.0 seemed to help this. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/57052-cant-stream-anything-to-chromecast/ However, the movie I was watching cut out about 15 minutes before the end (so tragic! -- right before the final scene in the original Blade Runner). Emby was still connected to the chromecast, so I tried to restart the movie and time skip to the spot where it had failed, but it did nothing. I've had no trouble replicating this behavior, and media does seem to play fine from the beginning. Logs are attached! log 1.txt Log 2.txt Log 3.txt

I have an issue with streaming to Chromecast Audio from the Andorid app. Starting a stream to Chomecast in the middle of playing a track on the phone will result in unresponsive audio on that phone. After Chromecast is selected, the playback controls in the app would control Chromecast stream, but the original stream on the phone will continue to play and there's no way to control it now. Hey All, I've got a ChromeCast that has jerky playback because my server (SynologyNAS) can't handle transcoding, but Direct Play works perfectly! I read some threads that say the Folder Sync plugin can transcode in the background and produce a version suitable for the ChromeCast and this will be selected automatically when I go to play it... but it doesn't am I missing a step? Folder Sync is setup, with a ChromeCast profile pointed to a general folder '\\Media-ChromeCast' I've selected the media in the WebApp, gone to sync, selected the new profile = General and quality = High The server transcodes the media and puts it into the target folder However, when I go to play it the server still attempts to transcode as it doesn't see the link to the new file. I feel like I'm missing a step in allowing emby to know that there is another version it could play. I assume if I copied it to the same directory as the original (with file naming suffix for lower version) it would work, but I was hoping to avoid manual steps. Let me know if I can provide further information. Cheers, Dewey

Hi all, i have 4 android devices that worked fine with android I think half a year ago. Now I have the problem that only one device is still working correctly. On all other devices the screen of the conected TV changes to black after showing the background picture of the movie instead of playing it. I allready tried to connect via http instead of https with no better result. I think it cannot be a conection problem, since all devices are in the same network and and it works since the stream starts. The working device is HTC One Max with android 5.0.2 Not working devices are: - Samsung Tab SM-P600 with android 5.1.1 - HTC U11plus with android 8.0.0 - a no name tablet which I cannot find at the moment ... ^^ Attached you will find the normal logfiles. Last try was from the not working U11plus. If you need logfiles in debug mode please ask. Best regards laotze Server.txt fmpeg-remux.txt

Currently I’m trying to get a media server set up to play corporate messages and videos around the plant. I’ve managed to set up Emby a powerful Intel Xeon PC, and I’ve been able to cast a video file to one of our Panasonic smart tvs. However, this is not exactly the ideal situation. Ideally I want to be able to play a single folder, with multiple video files inside, and play it on a constant loop to the 8 TVs around the plant. Is this possible in Emby? Currently I’m only able to cast one file at a time, to one TV at a time...

Hi I have my media organised to enable multiple versions of the same movie. This option is available on the android app and I can choose which version to play in the movie details screen. The problem comes when I connect to a chromecast this option disappears and it seems to play the version i wouldn't choose. I think it chooses the highest quality version which is normally 4k HDR meaning it transcodes (working the server hard) and colours are off as HDR is lost. I have searched and not seen this mentioned so hopefully I haven't miss anything. Thanks for your help
