  1. Hello! I have a problem when streaming with Chromecast 2 gen, doesn't matter where it came from (Android, IOS, Web, etc) When watching some tv series, the playback is in great quality, smooth and RANDOMLY jump / skip to the next episode. It simply happen from NOWHERE. I don't know if it is my PC that is the problem or the chromecast itself. What kind of Logs do you guys need to check? I have at least 20 logs just from today trying to watch a single episode...

    Streaming Trailers

I recently purchased a Google Chromecast dongle so that I could view my emby content on my bedroom TV. I'm streaming from my emby android app on my Note 9 phone. If viewing YouTube videos or local content, there is no noticeable lag accessing content. The problem arises when playing trailers from the net before the main feature. If I stream to my phone, I can watch trailers in real time, HOWEVER if I opt to stream to the Chromecast, then everything becomes so slow to load that I bypass the trailers and jump to the movie. Is this a cache issue with Chromecast, or is there a setting in emby Theater that would resolve the tortoise speed loading times of internet trailers?
  3. Hello, I'm on Debian 9.8 on server side, running the latest beta, but this issue is there since I upgraded to Emby 4.0. (was working fine with Emby 3.5.2/3.5.3). Tried with: - emby-server-deb_4.0.0.2_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.1.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.2.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.10_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.12_amd64.deb When playing MKV files with ASS Subtitles, tested on Firefox and Chrome (HTML5 playback), subtitles are not showing. I checked server logs, and found that ASS track is encoded/demuxed via ffmpeg: ./embyserver.txt:1029:2019-03-11 13:22:56.065 Info SubtitleEncoder: ProcessRun 'ffmpeg-subtitle_extract' Execute: /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -i file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" -map 0:2 -an -vn -c:s copy "/var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass" ./embyserver.txt:1079:2019-03-11 13:23:17.462 Info SubtitleEncoder: ffmpeg subtitle extraction completed for file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" to /var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass So it seems that's why subtitles are not available, but when the process is finished, Subtitle doesn't show up, I need to disable and enable them back again (and seek back to the beginning of the file). With big movies, we have to wait many minutes for the ASS to be "available". Also when streaming (from Android app) to my Chromecast (tested with Chromecast v1, v2 and Ultra), thoses ASS subtitle are not available at the begining and then, they show up, but accelerated, and are kind of out of sync with audio/video. We must stop, disconnect and restart the stream to have them properly displayed. Sometimes they don't show up at all. Let me know how I can help to debug those ASS playback issue.
  4. I really appreciate the ability to cast to my Google Home and Chromecast devices. However, it just shows "playing emby" on the screen instead of showing what is playing. It would be a nice refinement if Emby would show what is being played with title, description, and artwork. How it looks currently:
  5. Hi, I would like to direct play a movie to my Chromecast Ultra but i can't.... I can't understand why because here https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Chromecast, it says that MKV is supported by Chromecast, but when I try to play it it says "The media is compatible with the device regarding resolution and media type (H.264, AC3, etc.), but is in an incompatible file container (.mkv, .avi, .wmv, etc.). The video will be re-packaged on the fly before streaming it to the device."... Do you know why ? log.txt embyserver.txt
  6. So I've been beginning to setup cloudflare for my Emby server. Now I was wondering for anyone that has had experience doing this that may be able to shed some light on my concern ( I know there are more than a couple of threads but nothing really touching on this). I use Firesticks and occasionally Chromecasts mainly as my client devices (mixed with some iPhones). All of these devices REQUIRE a signed cert in order to connect and stream from while using the Emby built apps. I am currently using Lets Encrypt for my domain. I was wondering now, if I go through cloudflare and have to use their SSL, will that cause issues with such devices? I am very interested in using this method, but losing the functionality of those client platforms would be a deal breaker. Was using this link as a guide: https://blog.awelswynol.co.uk/2018/01/setting-up-cloudflare-with-emby
  7. Current Emby server setup in remote location behind nginx reverse proxy over HTTPS cannot cast to any devices. "Play on" menu is perpetually empty. "Enable DNLA Play To" is checked. User has max permissions. Locally installed server would list "My Device" but even this is not listed...
  8. Hi folks, I can stream perfectly from my Android phone to my 2 CCA's, can I not do this from Emby Theatre on my laptop? The CCa's don't show up as an endpoint? TIA J

    Edit chromecast main page

Hi! First of all, congratulations to develop this magnificent app. I have a request, but I don't think that it's possible (hopefully yes). Is there any way I can edit the content of the ChromeCast main window (screensaver)? Like logo, message "Ready to cast" and the background. It would be great if it could be edited, especially to translate that message into Spanish in the Emby Server options. Thank you so much for your attention. Kindly regards.

    Chromecast Video and Subtitle Issues

Hi, first time using emby. I have a Ubuntu server, the install went fine. Some issue I'm having: The web app, regardless if I'm using the local site or remote one, does not see any of my chromecast devices. I've only been able to chromecast from my Android phone. I've checked on my chrome browser on both my Ubuntu machine, and my windows machine. When a try to play on my chromecast ultra, the video image is bad, but the sound is fine. Sometimes subtitles work, sometimes they don't show up at all. (See attached image "chromecast_ultra.jpg", subtitles showed up in this instance). On a standard chromecast, I can't get the subtitles to work at all. The video/audio works, but does frequent pausing when first starting the stream. I've attached a copy of my logs. Chromecast AutoReconnect

Hi guys i'd like to bring up the topic of Chromecast auto reconnect, i noticed that someone had mentioned this in a feature request but that was in 2017 so id like to reopen the topic. currently when i Chromecast from my phone it connects and the remote works as intended however if i was to become disconnected from the Chromecast by means other than using the disconnect option E.g. closing the app or getting disconnected from the wifi for what ever reason, currently the app does not automatically reconnect to the Chromecast. i would suggest that the app be given the ability to reconnect to the Chromecast automatically, in addition to this i think if you where watching a TV show that after a few episodes of inactivity from the remote (the users device) that it would ask the user if they are still watching

    Chromecast Seek issues

Been using a chromecast pretty extensively recently and have noticed some issues consistent across web app, android app, and iOS. When chromecasting and opening up the chromecast remote control in the app, the time stamp does not move, however if I back out of the remote and go back, the time stamp will move to wherever it currently is but not move from that point. When trying to drag and seek or use the skip forward X seconds or rewind, the stream usually skips back to the beginning. The only success I have had seeking while using a chromecast is using the web browser and dragging the progress bar on the bottom of the screen, if I open up the full control panel for the chromecast on the website, it suffers the same problem. Hope I explained this well enough. Thanks in advance for any help!
  13. Started on Feb 12th, when I click cast button from my android device (in Chrome browser) it doesn't list my chromecast as an option. Works fine in other places, like Youtube app, or other streaming websites in Chrome.
  14. Hello, I come back today to point out a problem. My friend is launching a movie on his chromecast integrated in his box (not a physical chromecast) everything is going well. He stops the reading and tries to resume it and has a green screen that appears. This problem occurs on several films and others do not. You can find the picture bellow. I'll send the logs by PM to Luke. Best regards,

    Users and Chromecast

G'day, I am fiddling about with some voice commands using Tasker and its menagerie of plugins on top of swagger and some python code, attempting to tell my various tvs to play the next episode of or shuffle 'x' series or 'y' movie. I have the core code and actions set. (it works near perfectly on my Roku with some outliers due to naming collisions). What I am struggling with is 2 things, my Chromecast and user authentication. I have tried both user auth methods listed in UserService, I get the 204 response, but no change appears to take place on any of my devices. My goal here, is to say "Play Paw Patrol as <My Daughter's Name> in living room" or "Play Iron Man as <My Name> in Basement" The other issue is trying to get Emby on my Chromecasts. I can obviously do it with a physical button press no issues, but I cannot find a way to do it programmatically nor with Tasker. AutoInput seems to have an issue with the Emby Android app, non of the Elements are clickable by that plugin. Has anyone found any solutions to one or both (crosses fingers) of these, no matter how hacky (you should see my python library, I don't think I have written anything that is not hacky) Thanks in advance.

    Cannot see chromecast from Chrome

Hi, I am out of ideas. I can cast to my chromecast from the Emby mobile app, either from ipad or iphone. On PC and Mac, in Google Chrome (updated and it is not a dev version) the chromecast doesn't show up in the list of devices. On the same PC or Mac, I can cast to my chromecast from youtube or any castable website. In the Chrome's menu I can cast to my chromecast, but notbfrom within Emby web app. I am not using a VPN. My server is not located on the local network, I access it through internet usual port. Suggestions much welcome as I am new in the Chromecast world. Cheers.

    Chromecast as player?

I have a google home speaker that I added the emby functionality too and added the proper linking too. One issue I face is it isn't seeing my chromecast as a player where i'd like it to be default is there someway to remedy that?
  18. Hi folks. I have downloaded a couple of files to my surface pro 3 so that I can watch them when I'm away from home. I am unable to stream them from home via my phones hotspot due to plan limitations. In my holiday house I have a chromecast set up on the TV and it connects to my phone hotspot as does my surface pro 3. I would like to be able to playback the downloaded files on the Chromecast using Emby UWP or Emby Theater desktop, but they do not give me the option of using the chromecast as a playback device. For comparison, VLC has no problem with this scenario. Thanks Jordy
  19. I've noticed that both my Chromecast v2 and Ultra are happy to direct play multi-channel audio encoded using either Dolby Digital (AC3) or Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3). Anything else (Dolby True HD, Atmos, DTS, DTS-MA, DTS-X) gets transcoded to Dolby Digital at 384 kbit/s. I'm very impressed with the way Emby handles this - it's even smart enough to transcode EAC3 to AC3 when I turn off the AV receiver (and it's just the TV doing the audio decoding). I'm less impressed that it needs to do this at all for the Chromecast Ultra: why do Google think it's OK to market it as 4K HRD capable and yet only support these two codecs? It's particularly bad when DTS gets transcoded to AC3 (one lossy early 90s format to another). Dolby claim that DD+ is up to twice as efficient as old DD and Netflix are now streaming in DD+ at 640 kbit/s ("the point at which additional quality is imperceivable"). I decided to experiment using Emby's version of ffmpeg on my Synology NAS (a DS918+ running a Celeron J3455). DTS to AC3 at 384k vs. DTS to EAC3 at 640k. I had to set avoid_negative_ts to its default value of "auto" for the EAC3 transcode - Chromecast won't direct play EAC3 streams with negative timestamps. I was concerned that the EAC3 conversion might require more CPU time, but if anything it's faster. The conversion logs are attached. I won't claim to have the best equipment or ears (MP3 at 320k is fine by me), but I can hear the difference. The Mad Men opening theme (test file I used) sounds better to me in the EAC3 version, particularly the cymbals. What do the Emby developers think about transcoding to EAC3 at 640k when it's supported by the playback device? An easy win for better audio quality, or just another wild idea from a clueless audiophile? AC3_transcode.txt EAC3_transcode.txt
  20. Hi! I am running an emby server on a remote machine that is behind Cloudflare. Everything works fine until I try to cast to a chromecast device from my android app. The app connects to the chromecast, the chromecast says "ready to cast" but when I click play nothing happens. I went through the chromecast's logs and found that the it receives the LAN instead of the WAN address: 127.29.0.2 is the local address in the docker container and the address that is displayed as LAN address in the dashboard. I censored my ids with XXXXX, as I don't know if they could be somehow abused. Casting works fine when I use emby web with Google Chrome, so it seems to be a problem exclusive to the android app (I cannot try iOS). My remote address is configured correctly and shows as https://emby.domain.com:443 in the dashboard. Is there anything I could do? Does anyone have the same problem?
  21. For inf, I have solved an issue with .ts format files recorded from broadcasts and saved on a NAS, played through emby on a Windows 10 pc to a chromecast. I set up hardware acceleration using an Nvidia card but only direct play happened, which stuttered and then failed. Solution was to transfer files and library pointers to the pc, after which the Nvidia kicked in. Hope that helps someone. Much better for recording than Plex, btw.
  22. so using chrome-cast is just a tad buggy. when starting a video it will load and start to play. but when you try to seek thats when it starts to get kind of buggy. it will just not seek whatsoever and the seek bar will bounce back the 00:00 spot and not even progress the video. im on the latest OS of android and the latest version of the emby app.

    Issue with Chromecast

Hi all, Hopefully someone has experienced the below and knows how to fix it - or it's a bug that can be fixed! Specs: Emby Server 4.1.1.0 running on Windows Server 2016 Chromecast Gen1 running latest firmware Chromecast Gen2 running latest firmware Samsung Galaxy A50 running Android 9 and the latest Emby Android app iPhone 6 running latest iOS and the latest Emby iOS app All devices are connected to the same router/access point and are being accessed over the local network Emby is working fine when playing off of any of the mobile devices, and it works from any device when casting to the Chromecast Gen1, however when trying to cast to the Chromecast Gen2 it brings up the splash screen 'Welcome to Emby - Select Emby Media from your device' - then when pressing play on any media it simply does nothing, when disconnecting from Chromecast and playing the same media on the phone - or on the other Chromecast - it works fine This wasn't caused by the 4.1.1.0 upgrade as it definitely worked after that, but I can't be sure exactly when it started. I found the following from my logs around the time I try to play to the Chromecast: 2019-05-29 23:13:18.848 Error PortMapper: Error creating port map *** Error Report *** Version: 4.1.1.0 Command line: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\EmbyServer.dll -service Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True User Interactive: True Runtime: file:///C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/Emby-Server/system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 4 Program data path: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server Application directory: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: InternalServerError at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsyncInternal(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsync(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Mono.Nat.Upnp.UpnpNatDevice.CreatePortMap(Mapping mapping) at Emby.PortMapper.ExternalPortForwarding.CreateRules(INatDevice device) Source: Emby.Server.Implementations TargetSite: Void MoveNext() Any help or advice is appreciated - pretty much ripping my hair out trying to figure out why it's not working! Problems using chromecast

Hi, I'm trying to cast Emby to my chromecast by I can't. My configuration: Sever: Latest Docker container on Linux Alpine as host. The server uses a SSL certificate generate automatically using Traefik. Emby server version: 4.3.0.26 Clients: Android Phone Sony XZ Premium (and others devices) My server is at home and until now I've never had a problem with Emby, I can use it locally with my Nvidia Shield, Android Phone, iPhone, MacBook Pro, etc etc. Also outside my apartment, everything works perfectly, I can stream and trans-code without any problem. Today I've installed a Chromecast first gen in my bedroom, I opened my Android app, pushed the button cast, the Cromecast changed to Emby (ready to cast) and when I went to push play on my phone the button didn't do anything, it seemed like disabled. So I've disconnected the chromecast from my phone, I played something, it was working perfectly, so I've tried to enable the cast during when it was already on play. Same thing happened. The chromecast went to Ready to cast, but the app on my phone stopped to work and it went to a grey screen. Screenshot: https://ibb.co/4R9xD3t I've also try the same steps with an iPhone and I got the same results. I've tried to cast with my laptops (Linux and MacOS) using Google Chrome, but my chromecast doesn't appear in the list: Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/KdtQ4PZ.png It should appear there and also my Nvidia Shield. I can see just my browser and the phones. I've tried to cast Netflix and Youtube and they work perfectly. I've also tried to reduce the video quality from my phone configuration, to 720p Screenshot: https://ibb.co/QcLJQCR I've checked also the logs, but I didn't find anything weird inside, just some socket Error Any idea if it is a bug or something that I should fix? Thanks H2K
  25. I'm coming away from Windows media centre and am finally sellting on Emby as a replacment over plex. One thing I was holding onto was an ageing xbox 360 in the bedroom, I was hoping to still use it with a client app. Plex have one, though it is well out of date and emby only exists as a plugin for media centre, which I am replacing. So I have decided to bite the bullet and get rid of the 360 and replace it with a streaming stick, but which one is best out of Fire TV or Chromecast? Which will be more 'future proof'? Has someone used the apps from Plex and Emby on both, how do they compare? Cheers for any input!
