  1. Hello, since a few days (maybe a week) I haven't been able to play many of my videos on my Chromecast. I don't have problems sending to Chromecast videos encoded, for instance, in H264 from my Android mobile Emby app. The problem happens with - at least - videos encoded in SD-MPEG4, like the one shown in the attached image. The behaviour, in this case, is that the TV seems to start playing it, but Emby on the TV then plays only the audio, and not the video, and displays the Emby logo while doing so. Another strange behaviour I have noticed with almost the same timeframe as the problem above is that when choosing the device to cast to, I am prompted with a triple-selection for other Android Emby clients, when before I had saw one (correctly) - see picture 2. As you can see, for each Android device in my network two entries are the same, and the third one has %20 instead of the spaces. Can you please help? I am using the latest 3.1.61, but also with 3.1.60 the same problem was present; however I have casted these videos before, without issues. Thank you, Marco
  2. Hello. I searched a few times before starting a new topic but I didn't find something 100% the same. Anyway, come on. My EMBY works perfectly at home, both on SMARTV and on chromecast devices. However, when I leave the house, I can select the desired chromecast but it does not start playing. The play button even appears, but in a static way. I use the DYNU service for ddns, can this be the case? If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much. See you later.

Chromecast stuck at Ready to Cast

Hello, So I've set up emby and it's working fine through the web and through the android app (I can play on both). I can access my server through http://app.emby.media/ ass well as directly through http://<IP_ADDRESS>:8096/ (It's running on a remote server) so I know it's accessible through my home wifi. But I cannot stream anything through my chromecast (all other apps work fine on it). If I start chromecasting something from my android phone (or web browser) it only ever displays the emby logo with "Ready to Cast". No show info or images show up. If I disconnect my phone from the wifi (but leave the chromecast connected to the wifi) then use the cast to nearby chromecast function, the chromecast plays fine. It's my understanding that this features uses the chromecast's connection (I.E not my phone's LTE connection). I cannot figure out why it works when the casting device is not connected to the wifi, but not when it is, as it is using the same internet connection. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. Hi. I was running Raspbian on my pi and everything was fine but I changed to diet pi and I seem to be missing something. Setup: Ras pi 4 running DietPi v6.32.2, everything is updated. Emby 4.5.0.50. Issue: media can direct play on phone and pc. The server connects to the chrome cast, metadata casts, but as soon as I try to play something nothing happens (on either my first or second gen). I suspected that I was missing ffmpeg to allow Emby to convert the files to supported type for chrome cast but after installing from DietPi the config nothing changed. Proceeded to uninstall and reinstall Emby and still no change. any help would be appreciated. Thanks. embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63736897696.txt embyserver-63736897683.txt
  5. I've looked at other postings of this type but don't see anything really exactly similar to this situation - Situation: Chromecast goes black (no image or sound) after pause/resume of Live TV (on NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox) The problem only appears on Live TV - much higher resolution/bitrate/bandwidth movies do not have the problem. Android controlling Chromecast Gen 3 that is wired, not wireless - using gigabit adapter. Playback set to auto. Stream is 720p Comcast via HD Homerun Prime. Stream runs as "Direct Streaming" in the Emby dashboard. No CPU issues on server or network bottlenecks. Network is wired gigabit ethernet. Server indicates 6-8Mbps network load. When the screen goes dark, Emby console indicates that playback continues. However, the play timer in the dashboard panel changes from elapsed time of the stream to "--:--:--" At this point I can't look at the log because it is open. I can see that ffmpeg is still an active process. Android app generally may or may not show connection to Chromecast, but Google Home shows that the Chromecast is still connected to Emby. To look at the log I must first use Google Home to stop the stream. When I do that the Chromecast images reappear on the screen without further intervention - the standard pretty scenery. The logs are attached. The stream started at about 2pm and the screen probably went black about 3:30pm and then I stopped it at 4:03pm. From the log the stream appears to have continued processing normally until I used Google Home to stop it. You can see me stopping it in the log. But there was a black screen a long time before then. When this happens we typically just restart the channel, but it is starting to get annoying. A restart always works perfectly. Have not seen this behavior with Netflix or Prime casting (or before moving to Emby when I used WMC against the same tuner on the same server and network) Full log files attached. Any thoughts? This happens regularly on a TV that is left on during the day and we've also seen it on a second TV with a 4K Chromecast. I've swapped the Chromecast and the ethernet adapter and the HDMI port. Nothing helps. ffmpeg-remux-705a89cd-012e-42b9-9941-6abe02ef7fbf_1.txt embyserver.txt
  6. Hi, everything was working fine but a week ago emby web (localhost) chromecast streaming stopped working. I get the Emby logo on TV, when I press play I see a circle going around indefinitely. I can't think of anything I did last week that could have caused this. I run EmbyServer on a dual boot MacBookPro, with a separate EmbyServer installation running under Catalina (with which I have no problem streaming to Chromecast), and one under Big Sur beta 7 (with which I have this problem - but it did work until last week). Since this problem appeared I have updated to the latest version of Emby which made no difference. My Chromecast works fine with other apps. Network setup is as simple as could be. I see two error reports in the logs. One is "PortMapper: Error creating port map" (the router indicates that the ports are open and enabled). Second error in logs is "Failed to start UDP Server". See logs for more details. MacBookPro - macos 11.0 Beta Chrome Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit) Emby 4.5.1.0 I'm not very technically proficient. Would very much appreciate any help. embyserver.txt

    Chromecast

Hey, all -- I have just a few videos that won't consistently Chromecast. Messing with rate settings and such hasn't helped. I'm running ArchLinux with Emby Server 4.3.1.0 -- I've tried a bunch of different client devices, including an Android phone, Arch laptop, and Windows. The client doesn't seem to matter. What's fun is that it's specifically Chromecast with these files. They'll play back fine in the Android app and web player, and most of my files Chromecast just fine. I've attached the Emby log statements from one attempt, and here's the file metadata. testcase.log metadata.txt

    Emby low audio

Hey all, New to Emby, having a minor bug. Audio when streamed to clients, have been using Kodi 16.01 (tested on 2 devices)(Kodi Emby plugin installed), Chromecast 1st Gen (FW ver. 1.20.66189), and a Samsung Smart TV Series 6 (DLNA), all have very low audio. I would say roughly half volume compared to when they are played via a shared network drive or via direct hard drive connect. (not using Emby). Emby server version 3.0.6400.0 running on MS Windows 10 build 10.0.14393 any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Jayden
  9. I recently set up Emby on my PC running Linux so that my mom could easily watch stuff on her Chromecast, and it worked great. I use both Windows and Linux (specifically Pop Os) and today I booted up Windows and configured Emby there too. Everything seemed to be working fine until my mom told me she was unable to get Emby working on her Chromecast (stuck on "Ready to Cast"), which seemed weird because I tried it on mine and worked perfectly. After trying several times, restarting, opening ports, etc., I just decided to try booting the server on Linux, and her Chromecast works now! The only problem is that mine doesn't anymore, so it seems like once a Chromecast connects to an Emby server, if you switch to a different OS and run another server it will refuse to play files. Hope I can get this fixed because it'd be very frustrating if I have to switch to a different OS every time someone wants to use the server.
  10. First of all I love all the work that has been done for this great product and I’ve been using Emby for 2 months without a hitch. However, yesterday I noticed Emby server was only sending stereo audio to my chromecast where surround sound with a range of different transcoded codecs always worked before. I could not find an easy fix, I had the feeling it was ffmpeg related but no errors occurred and software I believe was not updated. However, the Emby logs said it was sending out a stereo signal. I reinstalled Emby Server and everything works except when Emby is casting, the chromecast freezes (loading circle) when I play a movie. I tried a range of files with different audio codecs and containers, AC3, AAC stereo, DTS, Dolby, DTS-HD etc. It keeps freezing What works: Other apps cast fine to the chromecast including surround sound. Casting is initialised by Emby through the android app and the item metadata appears on the casted screen. Emby server plays the items perfectly on my android phone or Mac laptop. Everything worked perfectly until some change somewhere this week. What doesn't work: Once I press play the chromecast shows the circle loading icon over the Emby interface and nothing happens. Hardware/Software: - Chromecast, Firmware 1.42.172094 - Synology DS418play, DSM 6.2.3-25426 - Emby Server (4.4.3) - Emby Client Android (3.1.23) - Marantz SR6006 I believe it has something to do with ffmpeg but don't know why this would just change from one day to another. I attached the log files where the embyserver.txt log ends with the chromecast freezing. Any tips would be highly appreciated. hardware_detection-63735854706.txt embyserver.txt
  11. Hello! I have a problem when streaming with Chromecast 2 gen, doesn't matter where it came from (Android, IOS, Web, etc) When watching some tv series, the playback is in great quality, smooth and RANDOMLY jump / skip to the next episode. It simply happen from NOWHERE. I don't know if it is my PC that is the problem or the chromecast itself. What kind of Logs do you guys need to check? I have at least 20 logs just from today trying to watch a single episode...

    Streaming Trailers

I recently purchased a Google Chromecast dongle so that I could view my emby content on my bedroom TV. I'm streaming from my emby android app on my Note 9 phone. If viewing YouTube videos or local content, there is no noticeable lag accessing content. The problem arises when playing trailers from the net before the main feature. If I stream to my phone, I can watch trailers in real time, HOWEVER if I opt to stream to the Chromecast, then everything becomes so slow to load that I bypass the trailers and jump to the movie. Is this a cache issue with Chromecast, or is there a setting in emby Theater that would resolve the tortoise speed loading times of internet trailers?
  13. Hello, I'm on Debian 9.8 on server side, running the latest beta, but this issue is there since I upgraded to Emby 4.0. (was working fine with Emby 3.5.2/3.5.3). Tried with: - emby-server-deb_4.0.0.2_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.1.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.2.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.10_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.12_amd64.deb When playing MKV files with ASS Subtitles, tested on Firefox and Chrome (HTML5 playback), subtitles are not showing. I checked server logs, and found that ASS track is encoded/demuxed via ffmpeg: ./embyserver.txt:1029:2019-03-11 13:22:56.065 Info SubtitleEncoder: ProcessRun 'ffmpeg-subtitle_extract' Execute: /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -i file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" -map 0:2 -an -vn -c:s copy "/var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass" ./embyserver.txt:1079:2019-03-11 13:23:17.462 Info SubtitleEncoder: ffmpeg subtitle extraction completed for file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" to /var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass So it seems that's why subtitles are not available, but when the process is finished, Subtitle doesn't show up, I need to disable and enable them back again (and seek back to the beginning of the file). With big movies, we have to wait many minutes for the ASS to be "available". Also when streaming (from Android app) to my Chromecast (tested with Chromecast v1, v2 and Ultra), thoses ASS subtitle are not available at the begining and then, they show up, but accelerated, and are kind of out of sync with audio/video. We must stop, disconnect and restart the stream to have them properly displayed. Sometimes they don't show up at all. Let me know how I can help to debug those ASS playback issue.
  14. I really appreciate the ability to cast to my Google Home and Chromecast devices. However, it just shows "playing emby" on the screen instead of showing what is playing. It would be a nice refinement if Emby would show what is being played with title, description, and artwork. How it looks currently:
  15. Hi, I would like to direct play a movie to my Chromecast Ultra but i can't.... I can't understand why because here https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Chromecast, it says that MKV is supported by Chromecast, but when I try to play it it says "The media is compatible with the device regarding resolution and media type (H.264, AC3, etc.), but is in an incompatible file container (.mkv, .avi, .wmv, etc.). The video will be re-packaged on the fly before streaming it to the device."... Do you know why ? log.txt embyserver.txt
  16. So I've been beginning to setup cloudflare for my Emby server. Now I was wondering for anyone that has had experience doing this that may be able to shed some light on my concern ( I know there are more than a couple of threads but nothing really touching on this). I use Firesticks and occasionally Chromecasts mainly as my client devices (mixed with some iPhones). All of these devices REQUIRE a signed cert in order to connect and stream from while using the Emby built apps. I am currently using Lets Encrypt for my domain. I was wondering now, if I go through cloudflare and have to use their SSL, will that cause issues with such devices? I am very interested in using this method, but losing the functionality of those client platforms would be a deal breaker. Was using this link as a guide: https://blog.awelswynol.co.uk/2018/01/setting-up-cloudflare-with-emby
  17. Current Emby server setup in remote location behind nginx reverse proxy over HTTPS cannot cast to any devices. "Play on" menu is perpetually empty. "Enable DNLA Play To" is checked. User has max permissions. Locally installed server would list "My Device" but even this is not listed...
  18. Hi folks, I can stream perfectly from my Android phone to my 2 CCA's, can I not do this from Emby Theatre on my laptop? The CCa's don't show up as an endpoint? TIA J

    Edit chromecast main page

Hi! First of all, congratulations to develop this magnificent app. I have a request, but I don't think that it's possible (hopefully yes). Is there any way I can edit the content of the ChromeCast main window (screensaver)? Like logo, message "Ready to cast" and the background. It would be great if it could be edited, especially to translate that message into Spanish in the Emby Server options. Thank you so much for your attention. Kindly regards.

    Chromecast Video and Subtitle Issues

Hi, first time using emby. I have a Ubuntu server, the install went fine. Some issue I'm having: The web app, regardless if I'm using the local site or remote one, does not see any of my chromecast devices. I've only been able to chromecast from my Android phone. I've checked on my chrome browser on both my Ubuntu machine, and my windows machine. When a try to play on my chromecast ultra, the video image is bad, but the sound is fine. Sometimes subtitles work, sometimes they don't show up at all. (See attached image "chromecast_ultra.jpg", subtitles showed up in this instance). On a standard chromecast, I can't get the subtitles to work at all. The video/audio works, but does frequent pausing when first starting the stream. I've attached a copy of my logs. Chromecast AutoReconnect

Hi guys i'd like to bring up the topic of Chromecast auto reconnect, i noticed that someone had mentioned this in a feature request but that was in 2017 so id like to reopen the topic. currently when i Chromecast from my phone it connects and the remote works as intended however if i was to become disconnected from the Chromecast by means other than using the disconnect option E.g. closing the app or getting disconnected from the wifi for what ever reason, currently the app does not automatically reconnect to the Chromecast. i would suggest that the app be given the ability to reconnect to the Chromecast automatically, in addition to this i think if you where watching a TV show that after a few episodes of inactivity from the remote (the users device) that it would ask the user if they are still watching

    Chromecast Seek issues

Been using a chromecast pretty extensively recently and have noticed some issues consistent across web app, android app, and iOS. When chromecasting and opening up the chromecast remote control in the app, the time stamp does not move, however if I back out of the remote and go back, the time stamp will move to wherever it currently is but not move from that point. When trying to drag and seek or use the skip forward X seconds or rewind, the stream usually skips back to the beginning. The only success I have had seeking while using a chromecast is using the web browser and dragging the progress bar on the bottom of the screen, if I open up the full control panel for the chromecast on the website, it suffers the same problem. Hope I explained this well enough. Thanks in advance for any help!
  23. Started on Feb 12th, when I click cast button from my android device (in Chrome browser) it doesn't list my chromecast as an option. Works fine in other places, like Youtube app, or other streaming websites in Chrome.
  24. Hello, I come back today to point out a problem. My friend is launching a movie on his chromecast integrated in his box (not a physical chromecast) everything is going well. He stops the reading and tries to resume it and has a green screen that appears. This problem occurs on several films and others do not. You can find the picture bellow. I'll send the logs by PM to Luke. Best regards,

    Users and Chromecast

G'day, I am fiddling about with some voice commands using Tasker and its menagerie of plugins on top of swagger and some python code, attempting to tell my various tvs to play the next episode of or shuffle 'x' series or 'y' movie. I have the core code and actions set. (it works near perfectly on my Roku with some outliers due to naming collisions). What I am struggling with is 2 things, my Chromecast and user authentication. I have tried both user auth methods listed in UserService, I get the 204 response, but no change appears to take place on any of my devices. My goal here, is to say "Play Paw Patrol as <My Daughter's Name> in living room" or "Play Iron Man as <My Name> in Basement" The other issue is trying to get Emby on my Chromecasts. I can obviously do it with a physical button press no issues, but I cannot find a way to do it programmatically nor with Tasker. AutoInput seems to have an issue with the Emby Android app, non of the Elements are clickable by that plugin. Has anyone found any solutions to one or both (crosses fingers) of these, no matter how hacky (you should see my python library, I don't think I have written anything that is not hacky) Thanks in advance.
