I have been using emby for about a month and so far so good. I seem to have only one weird problem. There is no audio from my android phone when playing back recorded tv shows. I have tried the android emby app and have tried the android web browser. If I download the show to the phone, no problems, plays fine. Movies and music stream fine to the phone without problem. This only happens when I try to stream recorded tv shows. When I pull up stats for nerds, the transcoding says the audio codec is AAC (direct) and Original media is AAC LC. Live TV plays without a problem as well. Again, the ONLY issue is with the Recorded TV audio, no sound at all. Any ideas of where to look for the issue? Could it be a missing codec on the phone? I have MX Player with the codecs installed on the phone as well. Thanks.

I've been using Emby for years now, and I really love it! But there are something that I really struggle with every day since Atmos and DTS-X was released. Emby only detects TRUEHD and DTS-MA and not the object sound formats. I know this is not an easy task and that we all have been waiting for ffdshow to make it possible. What I want while we wait (forever?) for a fix is to make Emby Server automatically add a tag "atmos or DTS-X) to the movies with "ATMOS or DTS-X) in their file name. This would make it so much easier, and would make cinema mode play Atmos & DTS-X intros based on these tags! It would save me alot of work!

Just a thing I would like added, maybe others would also. A radio feature on a separate app that would stream like pandora randomly selecting songs based on type. I don't like setting up playlists since they play in order every time. Something random and super fast to start up and use when im in the car. All the audio streaming options for PLEX Emby and others suck for audio handling. Half the time I start the emby app to play music on my phone it just shows a black screen so I give up and go back to pandora. The fewer buttons the better. There may be ways of doing what I want with the current setup but it seems way to complicated as is and it could be a chance for emby to step past plex on cool feature design.

Only now I noticed that the Emby Server has no fields for audio settings. That's right, it's not possible to configure the audio, since I started to use Emby Server not only to share the collections, but as a local media player.

Hi guys, I read a lot of topics about this, but didn't found a response explicitly. (Even if i get one by testing at home). I have a LG TV with all audio decoders except True HD. When I play a file containing one of supported codec on my Nvidia Shield TV, passthrough is ok, and direct play is ok, bla bla bla. But, as my TV can't support True HD, when faced to it, i thought that as passthrough is not available, the player itself would decode True HD to PCM to TV. Currently, Emby for Android TV uses ExoPlay 2.XX which supports audio HD decoding thanks to ffmpeg. But is that support is only for Passthrough ? or also for decoding ? I don't understand (even if I understand) why my server is transcoding passthrough if the ExoPlayer of the Shield TV can do it on its own. Please light me on ! minitoine

I realise this isn't really an Emby thing, but while I've been trying to replace my DVDs with Blurays, there's still quite a few to go, and some will no doubt be staying put. So, in the meantime and in order to save a bit of space, does anyone know of a program that'll remove surplus audio and video tracks from something like this... ...without actually going to the trouble of compressing / handbraking the file ? Thanks.

First, sorry for my poor English I have put some audio books with different embedded image in a "Books" library, those audio books have the same "artist" metadata. But It doesn't shows me the embedded image. It used one of the audio books's embedded image as it's artist image. And all the audio books shows the same artist image. How to make a audio shows it's embedded image instead of artist image?

I have notice that when I play an audio book or podcast from a resumed location, if I pause the playback then resume playback it starts back on the last resumed location. For example if I resume a podcast at 00:54:34 listen for 5 minutes and pause it so it is now at 00:59:34. When I press play again it will go back to the 00:54:34 instead of 00:59:34. To get around this I need to stop the podcast instead of pause, this way it will update the resume location and go to the correct time. This issue does not happen if there is no resumed location. When starting an audio book/podcast from the beginning play/pause works as intended. Hopefully this explanation was somewhat intelligible. Let me know if I need to explain any thing.

Hi, I've been noticing audio stuttering whilst using the app. I'm using AC3 5.1 ch audio with hvec codec. Also my TV support AC3 and HVEC so I'm not sure if this is a app issue or a setting I'm not aware of. No errors are displayed. For example I would be in the middle of a action scene with alot of talking and background music which has a spike of static audio for about 3 secs then resumes like normal. Then it will continue at different points through out the film. Log File: http://bit.ly/2y2Xl0J Any support or help would be great. Cheers.

Emby Theater 2.8.4 not using or remember default audio track?
ShoutingMan posted a topic in Windows & Xbox
Emby Theater 2.8.4 does not seem to use default audio track for at least one TV series. And it is not remembering the audio track selection if I change it, quit the app, and return. I haven't explored further to see if it's just this one show on my server or throughout ET at the moment. In past version (2.8.3 and earlier) the default audio track played as expected. The show is "Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency". The MKV files have a "Stereo" and a "Dolby Digital 5.1" track. The 5.1 is flagged as Default, using MKVToolNix. But ET plays the stereo track, the first track, everytime. If I manually switch the 5.1 track that plays fine. But quitting and returning, ET reverts back to the stereo track as default. I've attached a log file from when I was playing some shows and experiencing this. Log -
Hi folks, Since a few days ago we've noticed the audio sometimes cuts out on our Chromecast. I've done some testing and found the following: It only cuts out when transcoding and the audio is mapped to AAC, MP3 works fine. It will cut out within the first few minutes. Usually between 1 and 3 minutes. Stopping and restarting playback fixes the problem for a few more minutes until it cuts out again. I've rolled back the server version to a time I knew it worked OK yet the problem remains. Can anyone replicate this problem for me, just so I know I'm not going crazy? Cheers,

I have run into a bizarre problem, I've been using Emby for a few months now, the standard version currently, and in the last few days I've started having issues with the audio being extremely quiet when I'm streaming to my Roku. I've tested the same files on my PC and they're audio levels are normal when I play them on the computer, but when I stream them I am having to crank the volume on the TV almost to the max for it to sound like it is at the normal level. I have searched the forums and tried changing the Transcoding from 2 to 1, but that had no effect. This has happened with both mp4 and mkv files. I'm not really sure what the issue is, it was working normal until the last couple of days, I haven't changed anything in Emby or on my computer, so I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

I'm trying to get louder volume on my Android mobile devices. I have set the server's Transcoding setting of "Audio boost when downmixing" to its maximum setting of 3, however, the volume doesn't appear to increase much. I have verified that the video is being transcoded (downmixed) and not using Direct Play. I'd almost say there isn't any distinguishable difference when I switch on and off the transcoding on my Android device (I'm using Ubuntu for the server). I'm assuming you're taking my value of "3" and normalizing it to something and plugging it into ffmpeg like so: ffmpeg -i in.mp4 -af "volume=1.5" out.mp4 This example represents a 50% audio boost. 1) What does level 3 correspond to percentage-wise, and is there a reason it's been capped at 3? 2) Is there any kind of debug information I can look at to verify that the audio amplification flag is being set in ffmpeg?

Hello, I am finding that files with an audio track encoded EAC3 are not playing on my receiver in 5.1, but only in stereo. In the display in Emby Theater for the show, it says the audio is 5.1 EAC3. In the Audio Settings area, I have EAC3 pass through checked. When inspecting the mkv file using MediaInfo, it shows the Format as E-AC-3, Codec ID: A_EAC3, with 6 channels. When I play the same file using the windows Movie Player app, it plays in full 5.1 surround. Other types, such as regular AC3 work fine in Emby Theater. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you, Danny

I need Emby theater to output audio to a non-default windows audio device, but I don't see a way to change the device in the audio settings. Below is a screenshot of all available options: I know there used to be an option in a past version, I feel like I must be missing something obvious. Thanks for any help.

I have this app on both a PC and Xbox. The PC version works perfect but when I start any video file on the Xbox version there is no sound even though there is sound navigating through the app. I've tried movies that were encoded with different audio, changed every audio setting in the app I could find, delete the app and re-installed and also tried a different Emby server. At one time when I first installed Ember on the Xbox the audio was working fine but stopped after one of the updates. I don't use the Xbox that often so I couldn't say what update caused it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest to add the possibility to filter the library by languages, i.e. - Allow to filter for the audio and/or subtitle language. Regards Max ( Request taken from a former github issue: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1782#event-982356301 )

Opinions on Audio to Retain/Discard when Converting to MKV?
funwithmedia posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
So though I'm currently still planning to keep most of my Movies in the old VIDEO_TS format, I am persuaded as the benefits of (slowly) converting my TV shows to MKV. In one recent conversion I noticed that MakeMKV defaulted to un-selecting (ie, not including in the outputted MKV file) DD Stereo, while retaining DD Surround 5.1. I'm definitely interested in retaining the best quality audio options in my files, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should be aware of regarding stripping out "lower" audio options like MakeMKV appears to default to? My current setup is a 2.1 system, but am thinking about upgrading at some point (possibly to a 5.1 type of setup). I guess I just wonder in part if I might run into issues because of not having the more basic audio options in my files, or if Emby (and apps in general these days) should do fine with downmixing (is that the right term?) as needed? All thoughts and opinions welcome -- thanks! -
Hi, I've seen, that you can add an audio delay in the directshowplayer.xml file. This seems to work, as long, as it is an positive value. But I would need an negative value, so I put -200 into it, but this doesn't seem to work, it's the same as if it was zero. I tried higher values (-700) and this also had no effect, but positive values do work. How can I make this work? Thanks & Ciao, Alfred

Any tips for getting audio to play "directly" to the AVR with no processing?
Marc_G posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
Hi folks, Yesterday I unpacked a nice new AVR and connected a spiffy little Windows 10 set top box to it. In short order I had configured Windows to output up to 7.1 channels to the AVR over HDMI, and clicking the test button from the windows audio test utility for each speaker was rewarded with test tones coming from the correct speaker. The AVR was confirming it as receiving 7.1 audio. Hooray. That was easy. However, no matter which video player I use (Emby Theater, Kodi, MP-CHC), the AVR still reports 7.1 channels instead of switching to directly match the audio format in the movie file. It does recognize other formats instantly, such as if I switch over to my Smart TV as an input source and play something from Netflix, it switches to DD for example. So, my suspicion is either I've configured something in Windows that is overriding the player settings and forcing the computer to remap whatever audio stream is playing, to a 7.1 configuration. In Emby Theater, for example, I've told it to use the Denon AVR as the output device and that my speaker configuration is 7.1. I've done similar configurations for my other players. I think I've probably done something silly, but this is the first time I've done audio over anything other than SPDIF, and even that I configured years ago. Any ideas to help me troubleshoot this would be appreciated!! Marc- 6 replies

Ember stutters when playing MKV files. Also, Audio seems to get out of sync and several MKV file stop playing altogether. However, those that stutter and stop playing work fine when playing them with MPC-HC, VLC and Movies and TV across the network in my own home. I'm running Ember version: 4.1.160 on Win 10 Home ver 1607 with Intel i7-3720QM CPU w/ 8GB Ram. Please advise.

My emby has stopped playing audio from movies that have a MP3 Codec. I am running the latest version of emby and trying to play it from the online web app. I have tried playing the file on a windows 10.1 Chrome browser and a macbook chrome browser. In both situations the audio didn't play but the video did.

Hello, so first here is my configuration : Emby 3.0.8300.0 myKodi 17 Krypton Beta 3 Emby for Kodi Beta 1.0.5 All that on a QNAP 253A to HDMI amp. I understand that my problem maybe comes from the Beta combo Kodi 17 x Emby for Kodi but maybe it's something else I'm missing. First of all I started by installing Kodi 17 without Emby, with my library on the same server and everything was working perfectly with audio passthrough enabled, the 5.1 sounds was working well either in AC3, DTS or AAC5.1 (I installed the last beta Kodi version because I have a lot of film in H265 and it's the only one that supports it perfectly for the moment). And so I decided to centralize all my library through Emby to manage it more easily from my laptop. I've installed the last version of Emby on my QNAP server who works nicely, and the last beta Emby for Kodi add-on finally (cause it's the only one that works on Kodi 17). I didn't have any issue to sync everything, all my films appear great in Kodi. I configured the playback in the Emby add-on options in native path and with no transcode option activated. And there my problem comes: I can play all the video really fine (H.264, H.265) with the audio passthrough in AAC 2.0 but when I play a AAC 5.1 file the back speakers have the same sound coming from the front speakers. And when I try to play AC3 or DTS file it's worst and no sound comes out at all. I tried to deactivate the audio passthrough and the sound is back but with no proper decoding of the 5.1 obviously. I don't know what to do, I only know that the problem comes from the sync with the Emby library because it was working well before I decided to use the Emby add-on, when I had my files directly linked to Kodi. Anyone can help me ? Thanks so much!
