So weird little issue. Chrome on Windows (maybe others but haven't tested) sometimes no audio. Quality set to auto emby will play the stream with no audio. A work around is to change the quality from auto to anything else then back to auto and it works. My thoughts are if emby in chrome could detect somehow that no audio is playing and then transcode the audio from the begining as opposed to having to change from auto to something else then back to auto to get the audio to fix itself? I may be wrong so any advice or solution would be appreciated. Thanks.

Copy audio tracks from one mkv to another?
jeremymeyers posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
I have a bunch of DVDs ripped that have commentary tracks/alternate audio tracks. I've been trying to replace them with HD video files. Many of these video files do not have the alternate audio tracks attached. IS there a way to copy the audio tracks from the original mkv to the new mkv? (i am aware that they might not sync up 100%- 2 replies

I have a lot of jap anime, I love to just sit back and binge watch series after series, but I have been having the problem of selecting the eng lang, it plays just fine with no issues, but I have all these files marked with default eng but for some reason I still have to select the English track, even though it IS the default language. Not a real issue but it is very frustrating. I have set the server to play the default language and I even went as far as to re-encode the file so that the English audio was not just the default but the first track, but this hasn't solved the issue. Sorry im not tech minded, but I have included an image showing it is the default but it always plays the Japanese track. Thanks in advance

I have two MKV files that I stream from a Windows emby server to a Raspberry Pi HTML5 client. One of them has perfectly fine audio, while the other has highly distorted audio (like if it was amplified 10 times, then compressed). The audio is distorted only on the Raspberry Pi client. If I read the same video on another client (Android app, or windows web client) the audio is perfect on both files. The Raspberry Pi client uses Chromium 65.0.3325.181 Built on Raspbian , running on Raspbian 9.8. Here are the specs of the file that does not distort the sound Here are the specs of the file that does distort the sound Server configuration : Version 4.1.0.26 (Windows) Dlna (1.0.12) Is there any well-known issues regarding MKV files with distorted audio on specific platforms ? I've seen several threads about this, but it was on Roku (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/28067-audio-distorted-when-playing-1080p-mkvs/) and I'm using the HTML5 client.

When I sync a show that's encoded in Dolby Digital+, I can't hear the audio when I play it back in offline mode on my Chromebook running the Android Emby app. I hear small parts, like it's playing just the L/R channels or maybe the rear channels, but no dialogue. I sync at 8 or 12 Mbps quality. I'm on a Pixelbook with the Android Emby app. Is there a way to play the file internally or transcode it to Stereo during Sync?

Hi there Emby Staff. Been a while since I have posted anything on here. Guess that is a good thing, cause Emby has been running buttery smooth..... until now. I am currently using Android TV and long with emby tv version. I want to be able to choose the audio channel I would like to use. Somes of the video default to another language. Which is alright, but i am not able to change it on emby tv? I have tried to go into the setting and see there is a subtitle/audio selection. But its telling me to go to the web app to make the nessary changes. Kinda dumb, but I went to the webapp and change the settings there. I have select prefer audio english and turn off play audio default. I went back to the emby tv app and still playing the wrong audio. I have reboot server and emby tv. and still playing the wrong audio. Is this a bug? Can we have this option added to the emby tv?? Any suggestion and help would be greatly appreciated Monkeyslapper.

Was just trying out a little live TV on the main PC, watching via Chrome, were it transcodes, and ET, where it direct plays, and in both (and I think on other devices like Fire TV) picture and audio are out of sync. This is on Windows using Nextpvr plus plugin. Would logs help with any possible diagnosis ?

Hello all! I just moved from Subsonic (using DSub on Android mobile) to Emby for my music as well as my videos. And for the most part it is doing pretty well now. However, I noticed that an issue that had been reported for DSub is also currently manifesting itself in the Emby Android app in a very similar manner (with properly tagged and permissioned MP3 files). It has to do with BT metadata. It appears that, in Android 9 Pie, metadata display doesn't work like it used to with previous versions of the OS. Specifically, the song title is duplicated in the album name field now. I am not sure why this is but I think it may be only affecting those with Pie (I have a stock Google Pixel 2). I apologize in advance if this may have been already reported; I tried to find via the forum search but was unsuccessful. I have the most recent version of the Emby Android app as of this post. Many thanks!

Hello, I'm having a problem where MKV files with AC3 audio is not playing sound. This happens on W10M. I see there is an old thread about this, but a fix was indicated, so I'm not sure if that was ever implemented. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jason

Hi Emby Community, New to Emby - finally abandoned Plex after weeks of frustration. Running Emby server on an iMac 5K 2017 with Mojave 10.14.2, and trying to play media using the Apple TV 4K (latest OS and Emby app installed). For some television shows, Emby is identifying the episode's audio track as being: AAC 5.1 - but during playback via Apple TV, audio appears to be coming in as Stereo. Have tested other television series and movies, and those appear to be coming through fine in either 5.1 or even 7.1 in some instances. Is there a setting to stop audio being downmixed and force the native track to be sent through? The video files were all rendered by me using Handbrake and the same settings during the rendering, so I cannot figure out why select files would be downmixed to stereo versus others. Appreciate any insights or advice! Cheers

Hello, I was wondering how emby works with audio. I was thinking of remuxing some files with 6+ channels, to include a 2 channel track, for users who don't have surround sound. Would Emby detect this track and, use it for those users, or would I have to have a separate file just for 2 channel audio, to avoid transcoding?

HI, I recently started to stream audio from the Emby server to a dlna speaker, using the web interface for selecting audio files. (Application version: 3.5.3.0 Linux platform) The music is playing but the browser does not show any media player buttons. Leaving me unable to do anything like stopping the playing file or fast forward or change volume. You do not see what is playing and have no control. Playlist also do not function. You can start it, but it will play only one single file. (not the total list) I see this behavior in all my “different” browsers (laptop, phone, tablet). Is it “a work in progress” or should it function like the video playback? Regards Fire

I'm using emby to stream my music library, and I connect to a JBL Extreme via bluetooth (I get the same issue connecting bluetooth in my Honda Odyssey). Everything works the first time I play a song/album/playlist (including all the items in the album/playlist). However when I switch song/album/playlist from one to another it will stop playing through bluetooth. I can see in the emby app the song is playing, my bluetooth still shows connected, the song progress bar moves and the EQ style bars also move, however no sound comes out. To get sound again I have to quit emby (not minimize), disconnect from bluetooth, reconnect to emby and choose another song/album/playlist. Importantly to note, I do not have this issue in my built in android music player (Google Play via S9+), I also don't have this issue with emby through a web browser and non bluetooth source (like PC audio). This makes it difficult to use dynamically, which otherwise is a nearly perfect interface for playing my library. Look forward to any troubleshooting steps.

Hi there, Seem to be getting a strange audio crackle in 5.1 files when using the internal player. Rolling back to a version that uses LibVlc fixes the issue, so perhaps LibMpv related? Works fine on my OnePlus 3 - Custom Oreo 8.1 Horrible to listen to on my Z3 Tablet Compact - Custom Oreo 8.1 (rolling back to 2.9.76 makes it usable) Fairly new to Emby so no idea what I would need to provide to debug! Any help appreciated!

Hey, I'm still learning Emby, moving away from Plex. I don't seem to be able to sync any audio to my phone. Whatever the settings (bitrate), transcoding fails (whether from FLAC or MP3, whether from playlist, album or an individual song). I'm attaching a log. I'm on Ubuntu 18.04, the latest emby server as of now (Version 3.6.0.55 beta). There's some problem here: [NULL @ 0xff2fc0] Unable to find a suitable output format for '/var/lib/emby/sync/12/41/f9683eab-6e45-4945-ba8b-462fffdcf8dc' /var/lib/emby/sync/12/41/f9683eab-6e45-4945-ba8b-462fffdcf8dc: Invalid argument Emby-log.txt

On some videos I experience a very noticable variation in volume on some of the audio channels in some parts of the video (e.g. spoken dialogue from the center speaker suddenly getting very faint). The issue is not random; the variations are the same on each playback of the video. I've checked the source material, and those are fine. I've also checked the AVR settings for any dynamic processing, but those are turned off as well. The problem seems to originate from the Emby app. The videos (mkv) are not being transcoded (direct play), the audio source is Dolby AC3, 48KHz, 5.1chn nVidia Shield 2017

I just got a new Sony BRAVIA (55 inch X90F - KD-55X9000F) yesterday and want to use the Emby app on it instead of the old HTPC running WMC and Emby Classic. The TV is running Android TV 7.0 and the Emby Server is currently version 3.5.3.0 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine. The audio system is an old Panasonic one with support for Dolby Digital and DTS and is connected via the optical out from the TV. The HTPC was connected to this system via optical out as well. Videos open fine from the Emby app on the new TV, but all audio is only being passed to the sound system as stereo instead of 5.1 as expected. Opening the same videos via the DLNA server from the TV has the audio pass to the audio system correctly as Dolby or DTS. Playing UHD Blu-rays from my Sony UBP-X700 passes the audio as expected as well. Most of my Blu-ray rips have been encoded as HEVC/H.265 with DTS-HD MA as MKVs, while DVD rips are the same with Dolby Digital or DTS audio. I have also tested using H.264 encoded videos. A log file from playing my rip of Avatar is attached. Any help with getting the digital audio working would be appreciated. ffmpeg-transcode-cc814e6f-523b-4cc3-b874-0d6e62ecf044.txt

Hey everyone, first post here, hoping to get some help with this issue. Getting ready to pull the trigger on Emby Premier as I have been way happier with it over Plex aside from a single issue I have ran across (below). So currently for whatever reason my audio is consistently always out of sync with my video on my Emby for Android app. Although when playing back the same files on a PC through the web client it's perfectly in sync. The audio happens just before the video on the Android apps though, it's consistent, doesn't change when paused/unpaused or anything like that, it's almost exactly the same amount of out of sync. I've been browsing this topic for about 3 days now trying to find a solution and can't figure it out. Below is a list of stuff I have tried so far. Also keep in mind I haven't tried any other apps yet (don't easily have the ability too) such as Roku and the like so maybe it's an app thing and not just Android only. -Restart server (both Emby server, and the physical server) -Restart phones -Try other phones -Try local network and 4G LTE -Tried direct playback rather than transcoding Other Details: -Files are all .mp4 -Server is Windows 10 -PC Playback (which works fine) is Windows 10 -Android version is Oreo -Phones are BlackBerry Key2, and Samsung Galaxy S8+ -Files are perfectly in sync when played on the server directly (via VLC) -System specs (that matter) of the server are AMD Threadripper 1950X 16 Cores, 64GB of RAM, and SLI GTX 1080tis, so I don't think lack of power could possible be the issue -LAN is all through Google Wifi, doubt this would matter as one PC plays back through wifi fine so it's not like a wifi issue -Footage is in varying resolutions from 1080p to 4K all with the same issue If anyone here has any other ideas that would be great.

Hi, I'm an Asian and I love to watch Hollywood movies but when I don't understand them most of the time, I download an audio track in my native language and play it with Hollywood and English movies simultaneously to enjoy it. I do not download dual audio movies because I find local encoders having much worse picture quality. There are my websites that provide us with audio tracks of Hollywood movies and many media player are capable of playing external audios like: VLC MPC Kodi (video and external audio file name must be same to be detected and played along) I've used Plex and found it really frustrating because it cannot perform this task, neither it has parental controls (free), so I switched to Kodi but it also has no greater features than EMBY! I installed it today and updated all my libraries, I really loved it and want to use it as my Media Server, its Combo with Kodi is really awesome, I don't like to watch movies in Web Browsers so used its Plugin for Kodi, Now everything is fine except: Emby lacking ability to play an external audio. Please please please introduce this feature. Not only for Web player but it must work with Kodi Add-on so there should be an option in Kodi to play external audio if using Emby Plugin and server in it. I shall be very very thankful too you. I really found Emby best of all but if it your team design an Emby Media Player for desktop PC, it would be really really great. Thank you.

Alternate Audio Tracks not Correctly Selected if TrueHD present
jonescrusher posted a topic in Samsung Smart TV
I am having issues with playing alternate audio tracks when the video file contains TrueHD tracks. I know TrueHD will require transcoding but other tracks like commentary and alternate languages will generally Direct Play. If I select an alternate track that will direct play, it will not play the correct track. For example, if the video contains Track 1 – TrueHD Track 2 – Stereo Track 3 – Commentary 1 Track 4 – Commentary 2. If I select track 2, it will actually play Track 3. Select track 3 and it plays track 4. Select Track 4 and it plays Track 2. The attached log file shows this example where the server is correctly selecting track 2 and is allowing Direct Play. Other clients such as Web, Theater, and iPAD all correctly select the second stream but the Samsung client is off by one and selects the 3rd track. Testing with a video file with 2 TrueHD tracks shows it is off by 2. The Samsung client seems to be ignoring TrueHD tracks and counting based on allowed tracks which is not correct. I am still stuck running version 1.0.39 so am not sure if this issue has been resolved in a later version. server-63666672993.txt -
I am wondering if this will have any issues the audio in a theater surround system using kodi v18? It seems to be a little heavy on the audio on the right side or is it just me. These are the comparison of the two files (original vs converted) MediInfo entries, should I be concerned? Full audio reports from mediainfo here: my newly converted hevc source: I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, please feel free to move if needed. Thanks again for all, Ice

Completed Download and sync multiple audio (and maybe subtitle) tracks
siracacl posted a topic in Feature Requests
Hi there, a request for Emby Server. I have been using Download and Sync very much lately to minimize transcoding, the only thing I don't seem to find is an option to convert the movie/episode with multiple audio tracks and keeping their metadata so one can select the transcoded version and different languages within the transcoded version. This feature would be greatly appreciated. -
Is it possible to set an audio/video sync adjustment / offset / delay in Emby Web? I'm using Emby Web on a laptop that is playing audio through bluetooth speakers and there is a consistent delay in the audio (audio is behind video by about 500ms or so). I would like to compensate for this by setting an offset/delay to the audio or video. Is this possible? I cannot find a setting anywhere.

Is SHN (shorten) lossless audio compression format supported? I have quite a few music files in this format, and would prefer to not convert all of them to FLAC. I tried playing one in Emby without any luck. FFMPEG apparently supports this format, so I'm hoping it can be added to Emby (if not already supported). Thanks!

I have videos in Emby that have multiple audio streams. When I choose Select Audio or Subtitles, I can select an alternate stream. However, the default stream always plays even when I select "Play with these selections". I have gone into settings and unchecked the "Always use Default Audio" option. That didn't help. When I restart the server, the "Always use Default Audio" option is checked again. Any idea what is going on and how I can select the desired audio stream? UPDATE: It appears to be related to a single ripped Blu-Ray. I'll check on my end.
