  1. Emby server 3.5.2.0 Server backup plugin 1.2.3.0 Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Client: Firefox Quantum 62.0 (64-bit) The story so far: Fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 Download and install Emby server from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/3.5.2.0/emby-server-deb_3.5.2.0_amd64.deb Enter my Premier subscriber key Install the backup plugin Restore my backups from backups.tar.gz from old system, into /home/emby/emby-backups Launch Emby, launch backup plugin. No luck. Just in case, make sure permissions are in place, even though no specific errors in logs: sudo chmod -R 755 /home/emby/ sudo chown -R emby:emby /home/emby/ Launch Emby, launch backup plugin Browse to any backup Result: backup screen hangs with loading indicator Log files: logs indicate that plugin is reaching endpoint ok, and browsing the JSON at http://localhost:8096/emby/MBBackup/Backups correctly displays restorable content of backup files (time, date, profile, users, etc). It seems like just the UI is hanging for some reason? Most recent log attached. Additional information: previous server was Emby 3.2.x on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, same backup plugin version, and these same backups restored successfully there. Unfortunately the old server was destroyed and no longer exists, only the archived backups. embyserver.txt

    Emby server on Pine64?

I have backed the Pine64 Kickstarter and want to deploy it as an Emby server as soon as it arrives. I tried to do it on a Raspberry Pi, but the memory seems to be insufficient to run properly. So I ordered the heaviest Pine they had. It can run Ubuntu Snappy, so I would presume it will run Emby server on that platform. Did I guess right?
  3. My Emby server works fine, but often I have buffering issues where it takes forever for a movie to load, and sometimes it doesnt even load at all. I just see the circle wait symbol keep spinning. A lot of my movies are 1080p, but I change the transcoding to 720p with 4MB/s. It improved the playback and loading speed somewhat, but sometimes the movie just doesnt load at all. Standard definition tends to load and play much better. Skipping to certain time points in a movie almost always causes the Emby client crash, and I have to restart the box. Im looking into options to improve my setup, and identify where the bottleneck is. I run my Emby server on Ubuntu 18.04 on an Intel NUC with i5 processor, 8gb RAM. The box is connected to my WIFI router via ethernet cord. My movies are stored on a 4GB portable SSD external hard-drive (connected via USB 3.0). I always set my CPU freq to Performance (2.7ghz). My Emby client is on an X96 android box connected to my TV via HDMI. The box connects to my WIFI via the wifi 2.4 ghz. My WIFI has 5ghz option, but my android box does not. If I was to replace anything, I'd get a new box with 5GHz wifi option to increase the bandwidth as I think this is the bottleneck culprit, although, I do sometimes get the same buffering issues when playing from my web browser on my laptop, which is connected by ethernet cord to the router, so the wireless transmission may not be the only issue. But for the time being, are there options in in the transcoding that I can utilize to speed up to the data transfer? - My NUC box has Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. What hardware acceleration options would I have? - Would increasing Transcoding thread count help? - Would changing the H.264 encoding preset help? - Are there any options on my Android client that I can tinker with to increase loading speed and fix buffering issues?
  4. The attached file is the emby log, no ffmpeg log is created from this. The error shown on the client is that no playback streams are available. The emby user that the process runs under does have access to ffmpeg and the video files in question. Any ideas? embyserver.txt

    Server crash on media playback

So for a little while I have been having issues playing movies, they will play for a few minutes then stop and the server will physically shutdown requiring a manual reboot. This does not seem to happen with tv shows but only movies. I also cannot get it to stop transcoding everything. I have a samsung smart tv 2014 running the emby app. I have also tried casting from an android phone and tablet to a chromecast or to the tv directly but all result in transcoding. I even tried using a ps4. I've attached the logs of the most recent incident but every movie I have tried to play recently does the same thing. ServerLog1.txt ServerLog2.txt TranscodingLog.txt
  6. I've been holding off on upgrading Emby, hoping that some day the repo will be fixed. Everything was working fine until a few days ago when I began to get an error when accessing app.emby.media. I can't access my Emby server from app.media.emby until I upgrade according to the message. Is there a workaround for this? I've ran a whole lot of Linux servers over the years and the current method Emby is using, unzipping a file you download every update, is a really poor practice. It can lead to a total package mess. Is there any way to get this update through a managed repository (the proper way of doing things!) or do I just have to suck it up, go against best Linux practices and try to do a totally messy upgrade and hope my Emby server comes out intact on the other side? Thanks.
  7. Hi All, I have tried to upgrade my existing Emby server using the the new installation method for the 1st time and it failed - can someone please help? The Emby server is down and I have the whole family breathing down my neck to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks Here go all the relevant details I can think of: I am running Ubuntu Server 18.04.1. I had been using the old Suse repo set in etc/apt/sources.list.d/emby-server.list # deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/emby/xUbuntu_16.04/ / # disabled on upgrade to bionic Today I have tried: wget https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/3.5.3.0/emby-server-deb_3.5.3.0_amd64.deb sudo service stop emby-server sudo dpkg -i emby* I get the following errors: $ sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.5.3.0_amd64.deb (Reading database ... 93956 files and directories currently installed.) 8. Around a week ago I installed Emby on my Kubuntu PC. I didn't understand Emby and thought that it would be an application. Instead it turned my machine into a Multimedia Server. So cool once it's set up it's always on and no maintenance. My needs are basic. All I want to do is to have a file linked to Emby and any movie in that file will stream to the devices on my home network. I do not want to stream remote for security purposes. I followed the install instructions on the internet where I downloaded the file and it was really easy. I did have trouble getting it connected to my Fire stick because the port was closed in my software firewall. I opened port I think it's 8095 in my software Firewall and then no problem hooking into the Amazon Fire stick. Not an Emby problem. Around a week later I bought a Roku Express for my daughter and installed in her TV. Emby wouldn't connect. I waited a few days and my router choked and I had to reboot it. A little later I went back to try to get Emby working and to my surprise, Wallah the Roku recognized and connected to the server with no prodding. Seemed my router needed to be reset. Lesson learned if I ever have trouble connecting a new device to Emby reset the router. I proceeded to install on my Android Phone and again it was brainless. It just recognized and entered Emby Server with no prodding. So fast it made my head spin. Emby is fantastic on Linux Kubuntu/Ubuntu. Basically I hooked a file up to synchronize and everything I copy to that file shows up on my devices to be streamed. It's running in the background no maintenance required. Also no glitches waking up from sleep either. On the Roku it's running fast. So anyway If you have Kubuntu or Ubuntu and want to simply use Emby to stream movies within your home network I recommend it highly. BTW the resolution of the movies look great.

New users can't transcode fast enough

I'm running - Ubuntu 16.04.5 - Emby Server Version 3.5.2.0 - Dual Xeons X5660 @ 2.80GHz - 96 GB RAM The first user I created and the one I tied to Emby premier (if that matters), can transcode a 4k 30 FPS, video no problem. If I switch users in the same browser session, same tab (Chrome or Firefox) the video plays at 12-17 fps. I've done a side by side comparison of the users with the working user and everything is the same - I even tried the "user can manage server" setting. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Can anyone help me out here? What more info is needed?

Recording on NAS to wrong folder

We just moved and before we did, our Emby was recording to my Western Digital Cloud just fine. Now that we moved, my LiveTV is not recording to my WD My Cloud 4 TB correctly. Ubuntu Version: 16.04.4 LTS WD My Cloud Firmware Version: 2.30.193 1) The directory that is set up in Emby for this Library: /media/mlapoint/SharedVideos/TV/Recordings 2) The directory that the file actually was recorded in which I believe is the default directory: /var/lib/emby/data/livetv/recordings All of the directories in the entire structure are set as 777 in #1 and they are owned by either root or mlapoint (my user-id). I will be attaching my log for you to search through. Thank You, Mike LaPointe embyserver.txt
  11. I've just installed a fresh install of emby on my ubuntu server, previously was running as a plex server (i'm hoping to switch) My media is located on a nas drive externally and i have mounts setup using cifs, i can access the external media by doing cd /media/plex/shows cd /media/plex/movies Both of these mounts show up in plex but during the emby configuration wizard browsing to /media shows only /media/CDRom Is this a permissions issue maybe? If so what user / permissions should i grant to access these mounts? Thanks
  12. I have an Ubuntu server, libreelec media player and a windows media player. Data is stored on a synology NAS. libreelec (standalone KODI) doesn't allow me to setup a mount point identical to the Ubuntu server so I use the shared folder option in order to direct play from the Synology NAS using the mount point I define on the libreelec. All works fine. From time to time I also use an old windows box to preview movies before I play them on my main system using a copy of Kodi. There is no nfs mount point equivalent in Windows that looks like a linux mount point (afaik). The first time I tried the windows Kodi recently I realized that is was working. I checked the Emby dashboard and it indicated that playback was direct play. Which is how the emby addon is configured. ?How is this working? Obviously this isn't an emergency but knowing how it works may clarify my understanding. Thanks

Question about my local network settings

Hello I just recently as of yesterday became unable to access the web interface of my emby installation. It was on 3.4.1.0 when it happened so I updated to see if that would fix it but it is still inaccessible. When I try to connect to the local IP via 8096 or 8920 I get a blank page that says invalid host. Tried firefox, chrome, and ie. Both chrome and FF gave the invalid host but Internet explorer said error 400. I have tried clearing cookies and cache but no luck. when logging into the server it shows that the emby service is running and nmap shows both ports open. 16. Hi. I'm new to Emby and I have everything up and going except for one thing; I would like to integrate it into my own domain as a sub-domain using Webmin/Virtualmin. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server with the latest version of Webmin/Virtualmin and a main plus 7 sub domains (including Emby). However, if I create a site using Webmin/Virtualmin it creates an Apache site and as a result is not functional with Emby. The site must be HTTPS and I have now configured the Emby server's SSL (using Let's Encrypt) but if I enter the sub-domain using HTTPS it defaults to my parent / holding domain which is simply that, a holding domain with no functionality except a simple "Offline" page. I can tell you the domain and sub-domain here but before that I want to make sure that it's OK to post private domain names in the forums. Is there a way to "move" the default installation into a pre-created structure which I use for my sites without messing things up or are there configuration files I need to change in order to accomplish this? I keep reading about nginx on here and also reverse proxies but I'm not sure if that's what I need to do or whether a simple move / reconfiguration would be adequate. Sorry if this sounds simple to some but to me in my current state and wisdom (currently on long term sick which unfortunately effects my mind and how I can or can't explain things) I'm finding it hard to comprehend how I can go about doing this. 10 years or so ago this would have been a doddle but these days I'm afraid not so well;.please be gentle with me. Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope someone can hold my hand and lead me up the correct path. Chris
  17. Preface: I haven't seen an upgrade of Emby pushed to my Ubuntu 16.04 server in some time, thought it was just taking awhile to push the packages to the OpenSUSE.org servers. I've found many threads referencing or explaining different ways people have switched from managed packages to several different methods of upgrading Emby, but I can't seem to find an original thread explaining what the situation is and why people are trying to migrate methods in all kinds of different ways. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here, but I can't seem to find any thread plainly epxlaining the situation and why/how I should be managing my server packages now. Thanks devs and community members.
  18. I'm running the emby server on my ubuntu 16.04 server. It has worked well a long time. 20. Hello everyone! I'm new to Linux, so please forgive me if I've made a stupid mistake - but I'm having an awful time getting the latest versions of Emby to install on Ubuntu 17.10 Artful. Here is what happened: I had Emby running on 16.04 LTS, and attempted to perform an upgrade, and it went south. I didn't pay much attention to the error, and purged the installation, and started from scratch. That failed as well. I then started with a fresh 17.10 image on the same hardware. I received an error (I'll give details in a bit). I re-installed 16.04, and ran into the same error. Now I'm on different hardware, running into the same error. 1. High CPU Usage when idle on 3.0.7200.0

Hi all, Is anyone else experiencing unusually high CPU usage on 3.0.7200? It started on 3.0.71 but has not gone away since. It is extremely high even when nothing is going on, no users accessing the system, no scheduled tasks running, and no hung processes or transcodings found using 'ps aux |grep emby'. Here is a screenshot of htop: As you can see from the log, no activity is being logged. The only entries are me viewing the web interface. Anyone got any ideas? Not playing video through Nginx reverse proxy

    Hey, I have emby installed using the docker and behind an nginx reverse proxy, I used the config from this post https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/47508-how-to-nginx-reverse-proxy. Shown below. worker_processes 4; events { worker_connections 8192; } http { include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; server_tokens off; sendfile off; gzip on; gzip_disable "msie6"; gzip_comp_level 6; gzip_min_length 1100; gzip_buffers 16 8k; gzip_proxied any; gzip_types text/plain text/css text/js text/xml text/javascript application/javascript application/x-javascript application/json application/xml application/rss+xml image/svg+xml; tcp_nodelay on; server_names_hash_bucket_size 128; map_hash_bucket_size 64; ## Start: Timeouts ## client_body_timeout 10; client_header_timeout 10; keepalive_timeout 30; send_timeout 10; keepalive_requests 10; ## End: Timeouts ## ## Default Listening ## server { listen 80 default_server; listen [::]:80 default_server; server_name _; return 301 https://$host$request_uri; } ##EMBY Server## server { listen [::]:443 ssl; listen 443 ssl; #listen 80; #listen [::]:80; server_name emby.mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/emby.mydomain.com-access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/emby.mydomain.com-error.log; ssl_protocols TLSv1.2 TLSv1.1; ssl_certificate /etc/letsencrypt/live/emby.mydomain.com/cert.pem; ssl_certificate_key /etc/letsencrypt/live/emby.mydomain.com/privkey.pem; ssl_session_cache shared:SSL:10m; #add_header Public-Key-Pins ' #pin-sha256="8TzXdhbnv+l6EjDG2Vj9EmgGiSmZenrTZSNUFEwyUE="; #pin-sha256="YLh1dUR9y6Kja30RrAn7JKnbQG/utLMkBgFF2Fuihg="; #pin-sha256="Vjs8r4z+80wjNcr1KepWQboSIRi63WsWXhIMN+eWys="; #max-age=86400; includeSubDomains'; add_header X-Xss-Protection "1; mode=block" always; add_header X-Content-Type-Options "nosniff" always; add_header Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=2592000; includeSubdomains" always; add_header X-Frame-Options "SAMEORIGIN" always; proxy_hide_header X-Powered-By; add_header 'Referrer-Policy' 'no-referrer'; add_header Content-Security-Policy "frame-ancestors mydomain.com emby.mydomain.com;"; location / { proxy_pass http://localhost:8096; proxy_set_header Range $http_range; proxy_set_header If-Range $http_if_range; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; #Next three lines allow websockets proxy_http_version 1.1; proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade; proxy_set_header Connection "upgrade"; } } } I am able to access emby through the reverse proxy and can browse media and manage server but whenever I try to play videos it just shows a black screen and the loading icon and eventually an error message will appear . I have tested this with Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera and they all give the same result (Firefox and Edge show the poster and loading icon). Everything works fine when connecting directly to emby (emby.mydomain.com:8904). Any help would be much appreciated.

  25. Hello @@ebr, After reinstalling Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and Emby... I was finally ready to install my plugins. After I installed CoverArt the library failed to display correctly on ET (XBO), and the web (Chrome). I unistalled it, and the library is back to normal. Logs are attached. server-63647331988.txt - CoverArt installed server-63647251200.txt - after uninstalling CoverArt
