Hello! I'm trying to watch some movie on an old smart TV which already has browser integrated. (Unfortunately no native Emby is on that) All the movies are playing nice and smooth, very good! However if I play a movie with subtitles, the browser asks for webvtt. Emby then converts my subtitle on-the-fly to vtt and pass it back to the browser. Texts are displayed under the movie, but they are delayed by more seconds, so it is not usable. I have compared the vtt file and the original srt, and they are identical (by time-perspective). Here are some of the log: 2019-05-13 19:54:55.746 Info HttpServer: HTTP GET http://a.b.c.d:8096/emby/Videos/6178/87afeaa895842dec18af539e0f45efd0/Subtitles/3/0/Stream.vtt. A problem is occurring during movie playback. The caption position is wrong. For some reason the caption is on top, cut off, appearing only part. Is there any way to set the position so that the caption is at the bottom of the video? This problem occurs in all movies. It is impossible to read like this. Hi, I upgraded Chrome to 74.0.3729.108 (newest stable for macOS) and subtitles aren't showing in Emby Web App. Previous versions of Chrome is working, as well as Firefox and Safari. Been running Emby 4.0.2.0_1 on FreeBSD 11.2 a long time (same version before and after subtitle problem). Any ideas?

Hi there! I love Emby and I have already ditched Plex over Emby but I am missing one important feature @ Emby: subtitle offset. Often the subtitles are correct but they display a few seconds too fast / too slow. Many other solutions (Plex / Kodi etc) can handle subtitle offset for .srt subtitles so you can delay / speedup the subs with 0,25 secs increment. Are there any plans to implement this in the upcoming versions of the emby clients (iOS / LG WebOS in my case) ? You would make a lot of people happy I think ;-) Thanks!

Hi, Has passed many years since we asked for subtitles color control, and you guys did a good job adding configuration to put some shadow and size, but for some cases this is not enough. Some cases we have some white text in the video and mixed with the subtitles even with the shadows doesn't helps. The only way to go over this is change to other color, like yellow. So what I did, I saved a subtitle with yellow color, but looks like emby replaces the yellow color from str to the user emby settings. It is possible to ignore it? I would like to use the yellow subtitles not the white Thanks

I recently added a few TV shows on my emby server and I'm having an issue with the subtitles. The files have English subtitles, but they are mislabeled inside the mp4 files. If I look at the files using ffprobe, the subtitle and audio streams show "und" next to them (my other files show "eng" for the audio & subtitle streams). Emby seems to go on the assumption that the "und" audio streams are English, and uses them automatically. For the subtitles though, since emby does not see English subtitle streams, it follows through with the server's subtitle settings and tries to download subtitles from online. I have two questions: 1) is there a way to set emby to assume "und" language subtitle streams are English just like it does with "und" audio streams? 2) how can I set those subtitle streams in the mp4 files to have the correct label of "eng"? Thanks

Hello. First of all really great work for media streaming. Second, I can not find any option inside the LG Emby app for subtitle color and size selection. Is it not supported or am I the one who can not find it? I saw several post from last year that it was planned for future releases. But I couldn't be sure. White subtitles in HDR are really a torture for the eyes.

Hi, I switched from Plex to Emby recently and I have one issue. With Plex I was using Subzero and Bazarr for getting my subtitles and both were downloading them in a folder named 'subtitles' in the same location of my video files. And Plex detected them but Emby doesn't. Anyone knows if emby has an option for that? I really dont want my subtitles file in the same folder than my video file and neither in my server's metadata folder. Thank you.

Dumb question: If the option to only get exact subtitles is enabled - how is the match for 'exact' done? I'm assuming by filename and/or hash with a stock install (so only OpenSub plugin is enabled)? Asking because I was looking at some subs that had downloaded during my test the past 5 days. I had some files that were Filebot renamed that had some subs downloaded. It made me wonder when I saw them "How did they get downloaded if exact match was chosen"? Filebot saves the original filename in xattr - but I'm not sure if Emby reads that? It is entirely possible that while playing with settings, there was a period where I had changed the setting (I did go through all of the settings to get an idea of where everything was - but I don't *think* I changed it during the time period the subs were downloaded - but who knows, it's possible). Anyway - it made me wonder how matches were done and whether renaming files in an Emby-based system is a good practice (as opposed to leaving them as originally named.

Hello, I'm on Debian 9.8 on server side, running the latest beta, but this issue is there since I upgraded to Emby 4.0. (was working fine with Emby 3.5.2/3.5.3). Tried with: - emby-server-deb_4.0.0.2_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.1.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.0.2.0_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.10_amd64.deb - emby-server-deb_4.1.0.12_amd64.deb When playing MKV files with ASS Subtitles, tested on Firefox and Chrome (HTML5 playback), subtitles are not showing. I checked server logs, and found that ASS track is encoded/demuxed via ffmpeg: ./embyserver.txt:1029:2019-03-11 13:22:56.065 Info SubtitleEncoder: ProcessRun 'ffmpeg-subtitle_extract' Execute: /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -i file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" -map 0:2 -an -vn -c:s copy "/var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass" ./embyserver.txt:1079:2019-03-11 13:23:17.462 Info SubtitleEncoder: ffmpeg subtitle extraction completed for file:"/srv/media/Series/Sword.Art.Online/S03/SAO.S03E21.VOSTFR.1080p.WEBRiP.x264.mkv" to /var/lib/emby-server/cache/subtitles/b/b3fd429fcf754f26313b86b441d5104e_636877678715979463_2_0_0_False.ass So it seems that's why subtitles are not available, but when the process is finished, Subtitle doesn't show up, I need to disable and enable them back again (and seek back to the beginning of the file). With big movies, we have to wait many minutes for the ASS to be "available". Also when streaming (from Android app) to my Chromecast (tested with Chromecast v1, v2 and Ultra), thoses ASS subtitle are not available at the begining and then, they show up, but accelerated, and are kind of out of sync with audio/video. We must stop, disconnect and restart the stream to have them properly displayed. Sometimes they don't show up at all. Let me know how I can help to debug those ASS playback issue.

External Subtitles not displayed on the list of subtitles in my TV Show library.
uberstar100 posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi, I've put my subtitles on the same folder where the content is in and I made sure of the format that it's supposed to be in (Aaaaa.eng.srt, I think) and I've restarted and scanned my emby server several times, and I still get no external subtitles. What should I do? Also, is there any specific format for Episode and Season external subtitles or can I name the subtitles however I want, just as long as the language is formatted perfectly (Aaaaa.ara.S01E01.srt)? -

Hi guys, I can't turn off subtitles in the Emby App. It says "No subtitles" in the settings and I can select "Off" in the Subtitles while playing a movie but subtitles will not disappear. I tried to reinstall the app (1.09), didn't help. If I stream the same movie from the Web App to the same TV, then I can turn off subtitles in the TV settings (maybe I could say WebOS based settings) but I would like to use the app on the TV only. Do you have any idea? Thanks, Marci

Scale subtitle stream to target dimension instead of the original dimension
alyssa0326rr posted a topic in Feature Requests
I met a situation that my server can transcode 4K HEVC video to 1080P smoothly (40~80fps) , but cannot when subtitle enabled (15fps) After the investigation, I found the difference of ffmpeg commond is the filters. The original filter is -filter_complex '[0:8]scale=3840:1604:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease;[0:0]overlay,scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,1920)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2' I tried to learn what does this mean, then figured out that the subtitle steam first converted to a 4K size steam and overlay with the original, finally converted to 1080P, Then I tried to change this filter to -filter_complex '[0:8]scale=1920:802:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease;[0:0]scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,1920)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2;overlay' that first convert the original video and subtitle to 1080P, and overlay them together rerun the command, and it works, fps is around 37. I checked the output ts files, they contains the subtitle I want. Do you think this is possible to do? Thanks.- 38 replies

Hello, I'm not sure if this is intended but when playing something "Anime" that has a styled subtitles the shield ignores all styles and positions of the texts. And sometimes doesn't display it at all. The same files works fine on emby android with styles and without transcoding. Using latest beta of everything and the extract subtitle is turned off in the server. Edit: All subtitles are internal ssa/ass Edit2: just tried playing a file with the external player option "vlc" and the subs worked fine. Not sure why the emby app is not able to display styled subs fine Regards

I'm loving the native conversion feature but I also noticed that subtitles play by default whenever I play the converted version (using Universal TV and original quality settings). I've tried changing subtitle settings to "default" and then to "Forced subtitles only" but subtitles were displayed on playback nonetheless. Is this working as designed? If so, is there anyway to toggle when it does/doesn't display?

With server 3.3.1.5, when an embedded subtitle is selected before play, strm content (with embedded + external subs) is direct playing and shows embedded subs OK. When subtitle is switched during play to a srt, the movie reverts to direct streaming and ffmpeg kicks in, but fails to show the srt subtitles. Comparing with local movie content that is direct playing, switching to srt never changes to direct streaming. Also when an external srt subtitle is selected before play, Emby theater never shows the srt and plays the default embedded subtitle track instead. Webapp plays srt fine with strm when selected before play, in case you would ask

Hello guys! I'm having a problem with my subtitles in Emby App for Samsung TV (MU6100). The option to choose the subtitle language is there, but when selected, there's no subtitle running, not at all. I've tried in the web app, and it runs fine with the srt subtitle. The log file is attached. And both the server and the app are up to date. Thanks! server-63653356189.txt

Hey emby, Just moved here from Plex, since they're not fixing any bugs for months. Very happy to see that Emby just works. My question is: Is it possible to add more subtitle agents than just opensubtitles? Plex has sub-zero has as a channel which was very useful when you don't have subs on tv shows. thanks.

I wanted to check where the Bluray nfo file should be located & how it should be named. Originally, I had these as movie.xml files in the root folder of the movie. I've upgraded to nfo files and removed xml but having this as movie.nfo was not displaying or refreshing. Some searching around the forums & wikis found that this should be now called index.nfo under the BDMV folder. I've tried this but still no data will refresh/display. If I manually refresh to fetch new metadata from Emby Theater for example it creates a file <foldername>.nfo. So I renamed my original nfo file to the folder name & refresh missing metadata & it displays as expected. Is this correct? (before I go through and manually update my other rips) Also, on a side question, should subtitle options display the name of the subtitle stream? They are present if I play this via an external player such as Media Player Classic but show as Und (Undetermined) in Emby interface. Many Thanks, AD

Hi, I have a Emby Server on my Synology DS918+. I am really happy with Emby and also have Premiere. Almost everything works perfect including transcoding.
