Emby not using internal default subtitles, but instead downloading new (incorrect) ones
JGelps posted a topic in General/Windows
I believe Emby is always downloading fresh subtitles for shows. Which is generally fine. But some entire series never match up, while the internal subtitles work fine. Problem is, no matter what settings I change it will still download subtitles. I have the setting to skip if the video already contains subtitles matching the preferred language, which is english. Attached is I think all the relevant settings for this. I checked in Tiny Media Manager and the only internal default subtitles weren't set to English. So I set to English, deleted the .srt that Emby downloaded, and rescanned library files. And it just keeps downloading the .srt and setting that as the default. I've tried 10 different ways. Am I missing something obvious? I just want to use the embedded ones because it never manages to find correct ones on its own. I gave up on Plex ages ago because the subtitle system barely functioned, but I feel like Emby has gotten worse at it over time -
Emby for Android - Subtitle Position Change During Playback (Like Emby for Android TV)
solidsnakex37 posted a topic in Feature Requests
As the title suggests, I want to have the subtitle position option put into the Emby for Android app, as it was in the Emby for AndroidTV app. When you are playing media, you can easily go into the settings, subtitles, then choose "Position..." and move it + / - to go up or down on the screen. I use this every single day based on what I am watching, and it's the one thing that is keeping me from moving off the Android TV app, because it's missing in the newer Android app. I really want to move to use the newer Android app but without this feature, I simply can't live without it. Playback fails for anime with ASS subtitles unless "Disable Subtitle Filtering" is turned off.
solidsnakex37 posted a topic in Linux
I'm running Emby inside Docker on Unraid, and I'm having a recurring playback issue related to ASS subtitle rendering, especially with anime content. Here's what's happening: When "Disable Subtitle Filtering" is ON (toggle is green), playback fails or stalls on files that use detailed ASS subtitles. When "Disable Subtitle Filtering" is OFF (toggle is gray), playback works perfectly. This feels backward. Based on the label, I expected the green toggle (enabled) to help playback by disabling some kind of subtitle filtering. But it turns out the filtering is actually needed to get playback working. So I think the labeling or behavior of this setting may be confusing or reversed. The setting resets every time the container restarts. I run weekly backups that restart all containers, and the Diagnostic Options (including subtitle filtering) always revert to default. This means I have to manually disable this setting every week or playback will break again. Fonts for ASS subs are not reliably available. Even if I map a custom fonts directory into Docker, Emby’s ffmpeg build doesn't seem to support using mounted fonts. This makes subtitle rendering unreliable unless it’s done on the client. But some clients, like browsers or apps on other platforms, can't render ASS properly without server help. Burning in subtitles is not a good workaround. Anime files often have multiple subtitle tracks: Forced, Full English, and Full Translated. Burning in the wrong one removes user choice and breaks accessibility for multi-language households. Please add a way to persist Diagnostic Options across Docker restarts. Please consider allowing Emby to load custom fonts from a volume like /config/fonts so ASS rendering works properly without having to rebuild ffmpeg. If you have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this, I am open to any suggestions. Thank you! Emby client on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 is skipping lines from srt file
Amdir posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Hello, This is most certainly a very annoying bug. Emby client (Android TV) on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 is skipping lines from srt file while Emby for Android on Shield and Emby for Android on an Android phone is not doing that. Maybe this will help you in debug: In additional tests, Plex client on Shield is having the same bug! Haven't find the time to test Jellyfin but why 2 different media servers' clients having the same bug on the same place. (Skipped lines from srt files are at the same place for both clients) From the attached subtitle. 87 is missing from video screen: There lots of missing lines on screen from subtitle file from now on. It begins with this line. Sharing screenshot from Android client and AndroidTV client: Jujutsu. Kaisen. S01E01. 1080p. WEB-DL. x265. 10Bit. 2CH. HEVC-sLaX.srt- 12 replies

Hi Emby Team, I know there are already many threads dealing with subtitle issues... i just have a simple question... why does the "LG Emby App" encode the video when selecting PGS Subs while "LG Plex App" does direct play on the same file an the some pgs subs selected? imho this cannot be an LG Prob.

I just noticed something about subtitles on my system: there are some very very strangely named ones: It's possible these have been around for a long time - I have no idea when this happened. Any idea how to clean this up?

will there be EVER a standard setting for external srt subs on android / atv / lg tv?? ever?? I wrote that already 100 times it's so ANNOYING to ALWAYS select. 100 times!!! UNBELIEVABLE I'M WRITING THAT AGAIN. how to keep your user busy? do it like that.down up up enter down down down down down enter EVERY 20 min watching big bang. for every single pice you watch. every time. always. is it so hard? you offer a service to download srts server side!! and even then they are not selected in standard!! this is the worst grade in ui/ux and it's like this for at least 8 years you implement so much xxx for what do I know but playing videos (your core core CORE functionality is some kind of vlc was better 10 years ago. not to mention, more sub sizes between small and normal or size settings in the player... sometimes you have to press down 30 times!! because sure, the own srts are ALWAYS the last entries really really bad!! imho

Good morning, I'm relatively new to Emby. I am encountering the problem that I cannot find/download subtitles for a certain series via the Emby app on my Google TV or via the Emby app on my Android tablet/phone, but it works fine via the web version of Emby. My setup: -Qnap with Emby Server 4.8.3.0 installed in container station -Emby premium account -OpenSubtitles setup correctly in both the Open Subtitles settings and in the library settings from the series and movies. -Open Subtitles VIP member -Automatic download with Sonarr/Radarr/SabNzbd As mentioned, the subtitles work well when I go to the web version of Emby (http://*****:8096/web/index.html#!/home), but the subtitles do not work via the apps. What am I missing? TheChief

Hi, I run latest AppleTV and latest Emmy app on that, against an Emmy server on my Synology NAS. No problems to see movies or TV series. Movies works great with subtitles but not TV series. I have made sure the subtitle has the same name as the tv series episode. They are in the same directory. One directory per episode. I don't get the subtitle menu on the page of the episode, before I start the episode. I don't have Premium, is that necessary?

Skip subtitle download if video contains download language subtitle
happytonakai posted a topic in General/Windows
In the subtitle downloads setup, there is an option 'Skip if the video already contains embedded subtitles'. It means literally that the download will be skipped if the video has embedded subtitles no matter in which language it is. I think it's better be 'Skip if the video already contains embedded subtitle that matches the download language'. Because many videos contain embedded English subtitles. -
Suddenly Getting Many, Many Duplicate Subtitles, Please Help!
denzoid posted a topic in General/Windows
I activated the open subtitles plug-in and added my opensubtitles.com account information and since then I have been getting multiple copies of subtitles for each episode of my TV shows. Some shows have up to 26 39 copies all sequentially numbered. Is there some setting somewhere to limit the number downloaded? Did I mess up some setting somewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated! -
The Edit Subtitles context menu option on a Movie Collection item presents a Search for Subtitles dialog. It appears that the Filename, instead of the title and year information from the Media item, is used to perform the such. This results in non-matching items, due to media file naming conventions conflicting with the opensubtitles provider. Further, it would be useful to be able to upload a subtitle file in this dialog, as an alternative.

ASS subtitle problems on newer Emby versions (after cca 1.0.89)
smecerb1 posted a topic in Samsung Smart TV
My TV is Samsung Q9FN (2018. model) updated with the latest firmware. I'm currently on (latest beta) Emby Server version 4.8.0.12 beta (but the same problem occurs on previous versions) and I'm using Emby For SamsungTV version 1.0.85 because this is one of the last version which doesn't have the annoying problem with 30-day trial period. ASS subtitles are working totally correctly (font size is wrong but that is not a problem, that has been corrected in later versions) - attachments with prefix OK. Problem begins when I install any new version of Emby For SamsungTV after 1.0.85 (last I tried version 1.4.2) - ERR attachments: 1) subtitles don't occur in the first 60 seconds of play and then all of them"unwrap" in a blink and after that the subtitles are showing normally. If you switch the subtitles the problem occurs again (1minute of nothing and after that they are OK). SRT subtitles are OK. 2) subtitles have the problem with Central European letters (lowercase č,š and ž). This special part of the letter (above letter) is shown in front of the letter instead above the letter - the problem is shown in an ERR picture. The rest of lower case special letters are OK and all uppercase letters are OK. I tried different versions of Server but the problem only occurs on newer versions of Emby For SamsungTV. Every version I tried after 1.0.85, and I tried 4-5 versions, have the same problem. I notice that there were some "Various ass/ssa subtitle fixes" on version 1.0.89 and latter... Hi all, I am not sure if anyone has noticed, but I've found that the 3-letter country codes / language codes do not really follow a standard (I may be wrong). It is most obvious in the section "Filters", where emby automagically only displays languages that it has ingested into the library by from the imported media. However, there are obvious dual entries for one languages: deu - ger for German fra - fre for French ice - isl for Icelandic Possible other overlaps that I can think of (just that my library does not have any media to support it): hun - mag for Hungarian / Magiar fin - suo for Finnish / Suomi chi - man for Chinese / Mandarin Since the developers cannot foresee ALL codes that may ever be used, there should be an interface in the Settings: Codes Language to map to de, deu, ger German [ger] fr, fra, fre French [fre] ice, isl Icelandic [isl] [+ add new entry] This may be made easier if there is a DB online that provides codes for languages (like IMDB does for titles tt* and names nm* etc.). Thank you all for your support. Roodee

I just add to my friend an emby on his TV so he can watch my server. The app is connected and movies are well played. But each time movie is played with 'und' subtitles (the local file of subtitle on the folder of each movie) the emby played with English somehow. Tried to close the app and open again, but still. From web browser it's working well.

Hello all. I've recently found that all of my Google TV clients (new Chromecast) do not display subtitles. Movie subtitles will show up provided they are already there, but never TV shows. I can download show subs through the app, and even hash matched subs won't show up after being downloaded. If I play the same episode on my android phone, PC, or firestick however, the subtitles will show.

OpenSubtitles failing haven't hit limit, hasn't worked in a while
CyberD00d posted a topic in Plugins
After investigating my lack of subtitles, I found that my opensubtitles free account no longer existed. I registered a new one with the same email address and verified it. I can now login to the website and search for subtitles there. However, updating the login credentials in the plugin still fails to produce subtitles. My embyserver log shows an HTTP error 520. Is anyone else getting this? Looks like either they've blackballed the API used by Emby or the plugin needs an update. chinesesubfinder tools for Chinese users 一款给中文用户使用的自动字幕下载工具

Hi, I want to download a video from my server (for offline viewing) that has external subtitles (srt). From my web browser, I navigate to the video, go to "...More" > Download. Video file is downloaded just fine. However I cannot find anywhere how to download the srt subtitles from the server. Am I missing something here or is not really possible?
