I was wondering if anyone could me with an issue I've been having for a little while. I seem to have issues with video streams freezing on playback. The client is still completely responsive but the only way to resume the video is to back out of it and resume. The server I'm using shouldn't have any issues with transcoding either because it's an eight core Xeon processor with hyper-threading. Any ideas? embyserver-63662889600.txt embyserver-63663045698.txt

I like Emby enough that I bought a premiere license a while back but after discovering what I believe is a major security hole I'm rethinking using the server. Media streams do not require authentication. Steps to reproduce (using version 3.4.1.0): Note: this example is using a video but the problem persists for all content types. Log into Emby from your browser (in this example, Chrome). Open the developer tools -> Network tab. Filter the traffic by "stream.mov". Play any video and you should see a GET request show up. Copy the entire "stream.mov" URL. Fully clear your browser. Paste in the copied URL. Bam, video downloads without any type of authentication. Users can copy & paste this link, allowing unauthenticated sharing. Since it's a GET request anyone can sniff the requested URL, regardless of HTTP/S, and grab whatever you're watching. After NomadCF's reply & more research I found the rest of the URL is not accessible over HTTPS. So this concern is void.I can't be the first to notice this. Suggestions welcome; No I can't force all users through a VPN.

Hi I'm a newcomer to Emby, having installed it yesterday, so I'm sure I must be doing something a bit dumb: I'm sure someone will see immediately what I'm doing wrong, but I've scoured Google and the forums with no luck... 1. My setup I have a Synology DS918+, running Emby 3.4.1.0-1. I have an Emby Premiere subscription. I've pointed Emby to my media folders, which contain a mixture of MKVs, AVIs, and MP4s, as well as movies in .iso or .dvdmedia (Mac) format. 2. My issue The movies with the .iso files appear in my library fine when I look at them from an app (iOS) or a browser (Safari or Chrome on MacOS), and when I click play I (usually) get a 'loading' ring for a little while, and then the screen fades to black as if to play (and I get a small logo with the film's name in the top left) all as expected. However, I get no video or sound, even though I get the progress bar moving. The stats all seem to say sensible things (type of audio, resolution, bit rate, time left to play etc.). This is all when connected to my local network (I haven't tried streaming remotely yet) and the issue is the same irrespective of whether I'm using my laptop (MacOS) or my iPhone. Strangely, if I select the 'download' option from the Emby library screen, the film will download on my laptop as an MP4, which then plays fine locally (using VLC, for example). 3. Movies in .avi. .mkv or .mp4 files all play fine. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance Andrew

How to specify what subnets are local for transcoding over vpn
grid-hibiscus-pancake posted a topic in General/Windows
I have couple of users who are outside my network but still can access my server via vpn. I set a bitrate in the playback settings of 1mbit. "An optional per-stream bitrate limit for all out of network devices. This is useful to prevent devices from requesting a higher bitrate than your internet connection can handle. This may result in increased CPU load on your server in order to transcode videos on the fly to a lower bitrate." But it doesn't look like it's working. I want to limit anything outside of my network to 1mbit and force transcoding. Here is my setup: There is NO access from WAN. Server side: 192.168.1.0/24 <-- SITE TO SITE VPN --> 192.168.10.0/24 Remote site It seems when the users access server from 192.168.10.0/24 emby just direct plays content there is no limit. the files that are being played are huge (1080p/ 4k etc... ) so that saturates my upstream immediately. Plex solves this by a setting that you can set "Networks that belong to local net" and anything that's outside that range is considered remote and limits are enforced. Is there a way to implement this?- 32 replies

Hello community. I have the following problem with my Emby Server, I have loaded an m3u list with IPTV channels, the list works fine as I tried it on VLC without any problem, but when playing the channels via web or using the app for android or windows, the playback stops and then closes on all devices. Do I need to do something extra on the emby server or, what is the problem? I post the logs. Log2.txt Log1.txt

I have a server consisting of the following hardware: Asrock N68C-GS FX AMD fx 4800 8 GB of Dual Channel DDR3 1600 RAM A generic usb 3.0 drive as boot drive A seagate barracuda 3TB HDD for media storage Ubuntu server 16.04.3 as OS playback on Chrome on a windows 10 pc When playing videos, the playback seems to drop very often and buffering seems to take forever. However when looking in the dashboard I often see that the server is either direct streaming or transcoding at over 60 frames per second. I also notice that when playing media firstly the process takes up around 60 to 70% of the cpu, at which point the playback is fine. However after some time the process disappears, and the playback stop, it then takes about a good 5 minutes for a new process to start streaming the media again. I have tried reinstalling emby-server as well has tried multiple versions of ffmpeg, however nothing seems to work. I hope someone else can spot the issue and bring me the sweet joy of smooth video playback GeneralLog.txt transcodingLOG.txt

My music collection consists of uncompressed flac files. Before I move head with Emby I need to know if I play a flac file to the mobile app over tower using my data will the file be transcoded to an mp3 file, and downgraded so I do not kill my data? I looked in the settings of the app, and I do not see a setting to set Music Quality to tell it to stream at a certain bit rate. I see it for movies, but not for music. Also, I seen someone mention about the app cashing the music file while listening to the app, I see the web client already does this, it would be great if the app did this as well. iBroadcast does this, it will cache the song while playing, and then cache the next song after it, its a really nice feature to implement if possible?

Anyone know of a website that has a good working list of IPTV channels that I can use with the IPTV plugin. Especially would like UK channels

I'm getting very bad streaming quality from Emby in scenes that feature a lot of movement and individual objects. I have the transcoding setting set to highest quality (except for CRF which is 1 instead of 0, else nothing plays). My server's CPU usage is <5%, so that's not throttling the transcoding. The quality only drops during fast scenes or scenes with a lot of detail, and the drop is significant enough to disrupt pretty much any movie or TV show. Movies with lots of on-screen details are nearly unwatchable. How can I correct this? So, i've set up Emby, and it seems to work fine over the internet. I can play to my tv, and i can access it as a server. Now, i just can't seem to figure out a way to acess it without the intternet? Is this possible? I have an old modem/router connected to my desktop. NO internet. I'd like my tv to be able to log into the WLAN and to be able to access and stream my files from there. Quick question: Does anybody else find that they can't navigate their media via their tv remotes? forward/back/pause?

Hello guys! I'm new to Emby but I like the program very much! I have one little problem, can't get the HTTPS function to work: the server doesn't generate a SSL certificate. But that is not my question today. Because my HTTPS is not working, I no stream via HTTP to locations outside my home network. Normally I don't stream a lot, but now, because of the holidays I do stream a lot. My question, is it safe to stream over HTTP. Because everyone can watch what I'm streaming would I not be marked for piracy or something? Because I'm up-and-downloading files that are protected by copyright. thanks in advance, kind regards, Ronnie van der Woude

Playback streaming bitrate doesn't seem to be completely honored
skurvy_pirate posted a topic in General/Windows
I have set my playback streaming bitrate to 7 Mbps as I have a 10 Megabit upload connection. It seems that this isn't being completely honored. The average might be around 7 Mbps when streaming externally, but what is actually happening is it will spike up to at or above my max upload bandwidth for a few seconds, then not push any data, then spike again. Most times the spikes are close to 7 Mbps, but 1/5 at least are 8-10 Mbps. Here is a network graph from my router of an external stream: I could try lowering it even further (I had it set to 8) and see if that helps. But I would like to be able to stream externally at around 7 Mbps and lowering will probably force the clients to a lower bitrate. And multiple clients would be even lower. The main reason this is an issue is that it really impacts some multiplayer games. Sometimes ping will be bad, other times ping seems fine but it will be rubber-banding and freaking out. -
Hello guys! I experienced an issue. I can't use external player anymore, it only comes some popup that reloads the activity after clicking on it (screenshot). I have downloaded 2.8.40 and I got the same issue. After that I have installed an older version: 2.8.39 -> now it works again. I am using a Galaxy S7 edge and the server runs on Windows 10. Greetings, Jan

Hi, Can administrators no longer set a max streaming rate for users? As you used to be able to go into the users profile via the admin dashboard then edit this user's profile, image & personal preferences & from there you could change their limit. I'm running version 3.2.10.0 I know you can do the streaming limit in playback settings from the admin dashboard but there are some devices on my server I wanted to limit to a set rate. Thanks, David.

Hi all, I was just wondering if, since the nexus player (with developer preview M) has MPEG2 hardware decoding now, Live Television could be streamed (for lack of a better term) rather than being transcoded? Or am I missing something? Is .ts remuxed to MPEG2 then transcoded to h264/aac? Thanks for any responses! I know that this will not effect many individuals but it may also help those running the windows Emby app with Live TV. Just a thought! Empire

I posted about this issues before, but the forum seem to have been deleted. I have been unable to stream Live Tv to any device. I get " No compatible streams....error". I have refreshed the guide, restarted both sever and host computer. Problem started occurring 2 days ago. I use mainly Chrome to aces Emby. When I don't get the error message, it loads the payer box as if it was going to stream the channel or file, but its is just a black screen, sometimes, only the audio will start playing, the controls on the bottom of the player are dashes likes nothing is loaded. It seems local media files that do not require transcoding play fine, but nothing else will. The guide is accurate and recording works fine. I have recorded a few shows and was able to play back the recorded file with VLC just fine. But it will not play in Emby. I attached what logs i could find. Loga.txt Log2.txt

Hey there so I figured I'd report this issue or inquire on how to fix it. For probably a couple months now Xbox One when DLNA streaming will no longer show Movie Posters, Season Posters, etc... Just wondering if this is a bug or how it can be fixed thanks!

Hey guys, I am experiencing an odd issue on my Windows 7 Home Premium server I was streaming some movies and things to my chromecast VIA the android app the other day, everything was fine. All of a sudden the media would pause on its own and sit for like a minute then it would play for a minute then pause again. I thought this was odd so I remote into my machine to see what was what, and found that ffmpeg has my cpu maxed out. I restarted my machine and it cleared up the issue, for a while. Now this happens at least once a day. Its quite an annoyance. Any clue on what I can do to clear this up? Thanks!! John

It seems I have complicated my life but my intention was to keep things simple... What is the best setup for my needs? Background: For years, I've had movies stored on a network share and have been using Serviio Pro (DLNA) for standalone Blu-ray players that do not play all video formats. Serviio also does a fairly decent job of streaming over the Internet via it's built-in web portal. I occasionally utilize this functionality when I'm away. Next, I added a WDTV device because the standalones sometimes freeze and have problems with fast forward and reverse. The WDTV device plays videos directly from the network share and was working great up till the last couple of firmware updates. The stupid device periodically looses track of the network share and cannot find it again unless I reboot my PC's and/or server, depending on which one is designated as the master browser. This is a known issue that will probably never be resolved. Anyway, I replaced the WDTV with an Android TV box because of that issue. I'm loving the Android box (MeMoBOX MX MAX) but it has complicated matters. For example: I can no longer use a single universal remote to control the TV, standalone and streaming box. Now I have to have two separate remotes. I had to purchase a separate air mouse remote with a keyboard to utilize the features of the Android box. I could not find an all-in-one that has air mouse, keyboard and that can be programmed to control the standalone and TV. This one (MX3) comes close and it works very, very well. I just hope it holds up. The Android box came with Kodi so now there's a great deal more menus and more steps involved to navigate to and play videos. More menus and options = confused wife. I don't know what is the most efficient way to set things up. My questions and dilemma: I want robustness and simplicity. I do not want to have a complicated setup that requires administration of redundant services or multiple libraries. I want the flexibility of being able to access a single library from the LAN or WAN and be able to select whether I want to watch a transcoded movie or a direct stream. I do not want to transcode everything. Only when needed. Money is tight so I don't want to purchase Emby Premiere Lifetime unless it's needed or very beneficial. It's just not clear to me if I need Kodi on all PC's, Kodi with Emby add-on, Emby Server, Emby Premiere or Emby at all because Kodi does scraping too. Do I need Kodi on any device or PC to play movies if I install Emby server? If so, does each PC maintain it's own library? In a nutshell, why would I need Emby Premiere? Is Emby Theater a replacement for Kodi on Windows? How does it differ from Kodi? Does it automatically transcode the video or is transcoding a selectable option? If I install Emby Server, do I have to pay for the Android app on each device? If so, is it a one time purchase and does that give me the same functionality as if I purchased Premiere? Do I have to pay a fee for each phone or does the one fee cover all phones on the same google account? I'm most confused about why I need Emby since Kodi scrapes. It appears to me that each product has a different purpose but there is some functionality overlap.

I've got emby-server setup on an Ubuntu server 16.04 from an Asus laptop with i7 2.8ghz cpu and 16gb ram, along with a 2tb ext hdd in the usb 3.0 port. I'm very curious about what the streaming limitations are with emby. If I've got a day when my household is using emby on several devices and then say several friends and family using the server are all connecting and using media potentially on several devices, at one point can I expect to have an issue? How does emby utilize i/o on the ext hdd? What files are transcoded and how can I minimize the need for transcoding? In general, I'm just thinking, what if I wanted to allow 20 people to stream my media, all potentially with multiple devices running concurrently, what do I need to do on my end? Is it necessary to setup multiple servers? How can I ensure the best experience for multiple users?

Trailers - How to disable internet streaming to use locals only?
shadetree posted a topic in Plugins
I purchase all my movies on discs and save them and the included trailers locally, I only have available limited expensive satellite off peak internet. My family inadvertently stream trailers if it's not a local, and there is no where I can find to prevent this within the Trailers Plugin or Emby Server.- 6 replies

There seems to be an issue with ¿rendering the last couple of minutes of an episode while steaming to another location. Playback cuts off and I can't get the stream to continue on any time frame. Attached, server log Server log is 61 MB!? https://1drv.ms/t/s!Asn6NNog54FdjIVX35DTwZ8UFJE-Dw Also, see my previous post: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/36884-server-3059850-high-cpu-usage-when-browsing-libraries/ Still not sure if this might be (partially) an new Windows function (probably one of the futures where all so excited about , for anybody remembering the Windows 8.x and 10 introduction mumbo-jumbo ) As a trail I'll start streaming using the latest Pale Moon browser. In my experience one of the most reliable and least resources intensive for the past 5 years.

Hi This is my first post, i love Emby and hope to upgrade in the future. I have stumbled across a weird problem, when i try to play a video on my PS4, most of the videos play except sometimes certain videos fail straight away. i got the following error in my log last night 2016-06-02 21:40:51.5992 Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 200 to 192.168.0.7. Just ditched Comcast boxes to move over to HDHR to stream and record with, here is my setup: Lenovo tower with AMD-A10-6700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.70GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, PNY - NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card My media (movies, tv, music videos, etc) stream off a NAS - WD MyCloud EX2100 - (1GB RAM, 2 4TB HD's) Everything runs through an LG-Ericsson SMC-EZ1024DT EZ Switch, connected to an ARRIS SURFboard SBG6900-AC My Cable comes in through 2 HDHomerun Prime tuners, which I am running directly through Emby (no WMC for me). Internet/cable comes in through one line direct, split to four through a Snapfish Coax Bi-Directional Amplifier. (Taking a minute to catch my breath....) Ok, so the issue I am having is the cable plays direct from the HDHR on XBOne, but there is no program guide interface. I have multiple chromecasts to stream to, as well, throughout the house, but no luck there, either. HD wont even start when launching to chromecast. When I play through Emby over XBOne or PC or Android, it plays for about 5-10 minutes, then the screen freezes, volume stops and it will not recover itself. I have to exit out and restart over again. Repeatedly. I thought with my video card upgrade, my processor speed, etc, that it would be enough to handle any transcoding issues. I have fiddled with the bitrate on my devices, to no avail, and am really starting to get frustrated at this point, as we turned our cable boxes in and dont have them to fall back on anymore. When it does stream, I am not experiencing processor usage over 60-70%. Any suggestions? I have attached my last few transcoding logs. Thanks in advance.
