I have some series with lots of episodes but MediaPortal and MB Classic is only showing the thumbs without filenames which make it hard to find an episode. After some experimenting by renaming a couple of files, I determine it was caused by the square brackets in the filename. These files had no problem in MB2. Say I have media files with tags stored as: \\fs\TV\Show 1 (2013)\ [tag1] file 01 [tag2].avi [tag1] file [tag2] 02.avi In both MB Web MediaPortal and MB Classic, file 01 would not show filename while file 02 would just show 02. MB seems to be ignoring any characters in between the 1st open and last close square brackets: [tag1] filename 01 [tag2].avi --> [tag1] filename [tag2] 02.avi --> 02 MB Server version: 3.0.5031.21343 MB Classic version: 3.0.74.0 B10-3.1

Would it be possible to have some sort of advanced option where one could specify their own musicbrainz mirror & apikey?

Since I have migrated over to MB3 server / classic, when I add external players the drop down list still shows my older players from MB2 which was TMT5. I have since installed TMT6 but it does not show as an external player option (still shows TMT5). I'm thinking I need to clear out /reset something in the config setup. Anyone please. thx Bw

Server Version 3.0.5031.21343 I have a user account set up for me (the main/admin account), and one for my son. My son's account is limited to PG and under and to two specific collections (Kids Movies and Kids TV). When I add movies to Kids Movies, they show up just fine for me (master account/default library), but they don't appear for him. This past week I've added 4 rated G movies, and none have appeared for him, but all show fine for me. I've done numerous manual scans but nothing helps. Could it be that the collection names in my son's custom library are the same names as in the default library? Could there be a conflict there? It does appear to be a recent issue, though I've experienced similar issues in the past (which had been resolved).

Hi All, I am running MB3 on a dedicated machine that runs Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 which is fully patched. Only applications installed on the machine are MB3 and Google Chrome. This morning my MB3 updated to 3.0.5031.21343 and asked to restart the services. The splash screen loads saying: Loading Media Browser Server Version 3.0.5031.21343 After about 2 - 3 minutes I get an error saying: There was an error launching Media Browser: The read operation failed, see inner exception Is anybody else experiencing this issue? Is it possible to roll back to an earlier version? Edit: Nevermind, I found doing what was suggested here: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/930-server-error-version-30503121343/ fixed my problem.

Hi, I've been through the excellent set up guides and I'm not sure if I'm missing something here. As I understand it, MB3 Server produces Views based on the collection type selected when adding a media collection under the Default Media Library menu. Hence Views for general or mixed content, adult videos, books, box sets, games, home videos, movies, music, music videos, photos, trailers and TV shows should become available as long as one or more media collection has been tagged as such. I have Views for 'Movies', 'TV' and 'Music' (even though none of my collections are tagged as Music) but am missing Views for 'General or Mixed Content' and 'Adult Videos' even though some of my media collections are tagged as such. Any idea how I get them to show up? Also the Roku client appears to list Views and not Collections. Is it possible to have it do both or just Collections? I'll post this question in the Roku section as well. Thanks for a great product and any help you can give with the above questions. NobodyAtAll

When you run the MB Server as a service, it must have a user account associated with it that can access your media folders. The default Windows Service account does not have access to network resources. So, using the "Services" control panel, find the Media Browser service, right click and select "Properties" (or double click the entry). Then, on the Log In tab of that dialog, enter credentials that have access to your media folders:

Media Browser Universe With version 3, Media Browser is no longer a single program that runs under Windows Media Center. It is now a complete suite of products anchored by a server engine that can centrally manage your library and feed multiple clients on multiple platforms. Therefore, it is a bit more complicated than previous versions but we're doing everything we can to keep it simple and easy to install and setup. There are some good tutorials being created to help you with step by step instructions on installation and configuration. Look for those in the Tutorials and Guides section of the Knowledge Base. This document will help you understand the big picture of the system, some of its key components as well as which of those components should be installed for your particular situation. Media Browser 3 components Media Browser 3 is made up of a server program that manages your whole library and any of a number of client applications with which to view and play content. Media Browser Server This is a windows-based application that should be installed on one machine on your network to manage your entire library and feed all of your clients. You only need this on one machine on your network, and that machine needs to be available with the server running for any of the clients to be able to access your media. Media Browser Theater This will be the new premier HTPC client for Media Browser. It is a stand-alone program that does not require WMC or specialized codecs in order to view and play your media. It is currently in development and not available for testing yet. Media Browser Classic This is the new Media Center client for MB3. It looks and behaves much like the old MB 2.x and still relies on WMC for its presentation and playback. If you are coming from MB 2 and like or need WMC for its other features, this client will allow you to stay in that environment. MBC also has many of the themes you have come to love under MB 2 available for it. The Dashboard The Dashboard is the new web-based configuration interface for Media Browser Server. It is a centralized hub for configuring your library, user profiles, metadata options, plug-ins, etc. Being web-based, it is accessible from many different platforms including mobile phones and tablets. Web Client Within the Dashboard interface there is also a fully-featured web client for MB 3. This client gives you a very rich interface into your media library including advanced views and searching capability. It is also web-based so it is fully mobile-compatible and can be used to browse and play your collection, and can even communicate with and control clients connected to the server. Remote features vary by client. Other MB3 Clients In addition, there are several other MB clients currently in development. There are specific clients for the following platforms: - Android - Windows/RT - Roku Streaming Media Player - iOS Example Installations The following are a few example installation scenarios and what you need in each one. These are just a few examples - there are many possible configurations but the one thing each one has in common is that you will need one, and just one, installation of MB Server for any Media Browser 3 installation. Single HTPC If you only need to access your media on one computer, you can do that! You can have the MB Server, and MB Classic or MB Theater (coming soon) installed on the same computer, along with all of your media files. Local Network with basic HTPC(s) If you have more than one computer on your network, you can install the MB Server on your primary HTPC only, and install MB Classic or MB Theater (coming soon) on the others. In addition, the computers on your network can also access the Media Browser Web Client. With User Profiles, you can control what media collections each user has access to. Advanced Local Network with multiple types of clients and NAS Maybe your network is a little more complicated. If your media is stored on an NAS, and you've got tablets, smartphones and a Roku you want to view your media on, MB3 can handle that with ease. Simply install MB Server on a PC and direct it your network storage shares. Then, install your choice of MB clients on your other computers and devices. Local and WAN access In addition to being able to access the MB Server from any computer or client on your network, you can expand your reach to anywhere you are connected to the internet by configuring your router to forward the ports used by the Server.
