Connecting Roku Emby externally over HTTPS

Ok so I'm not a network novice, but clearly I am missing something here. I've searched the forums and have only found mention of using http port 8096 for external connections. None of the documentation/posts I have seen specifically speak of using https, which I would like to use if possible. The firewall on my 2008r2 server has the proper ports all opened, the exe is also allowed access, and the port forwarding rules are in effect on my modem. On the web console of EMBY it even reports "Remote Access: https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8920. Now when I go to my EMBY Roku app, it doesn't matter if I enter https://:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or just the IP and then use 8920, the Roku will not connect, it gives the following error: We were unable to connect to this server. Please make sure it is running and try again. HTTPS works from a web browser, but it will not work from the EMBY Roku, nor the EMBY client for android. Now I know all is working on the server/firewall side because if I go back and connect using the IP and use 8096, boom, connects and works both Roku and droid clients. I am using the latest release of EMBY server, as of this writing, and I have removed and reinstalled the EMBY Roku client just to be sure. Can the roku connect over HTTPS and if so what am I missing? Thanks guys! P.S. EMBY ROCKS!

    Unable to connect to server

I have both Media Browser channels in the Roku Channel Store and another older one I got 2 years ago from private channels. My server always connected to all of them before the server updates last week. Channels are version 1.78, 1.84 & the official ch. I cant get Media Browser to connect to my server since last update. I became a supporter and it links my account, but says unable to connect to server on my Roku. Wont play in Netgear anymore either. That one says Media Browser (Offline). Still plays in my browser. Please help. Would it still play in browser if I pasted the activation key wrong? Also my Roku doesn't show up in the selected play to devise area.

    Emby for Roku

Emby For Roku Setup Guide Assumptions The Author only had access to a Roku 3 (Model 4200X Software v5.4 2240) . It is assumed that all Rokus behave in the same way in respect of this guide.Prerequisites Install EMBY Server. Create an EMBY User. Optionally (and recommended) make user an EMBY Connect User (by registering on community forums and adding the valid MB community username to the user account under server configuration and authorising via email) http://emby.media/connect/ Follow the Roku product installation instructions to register your email address/Roku account. Ensure the Roku has a valid IP route to your EMBY server and ensure the necessary rules are applied on any intermediary firewalls. See Client<>Server Connection Troubleshooting. Guide Chapters Adding EMBY Channel to Your Roku. Connect EMBY Roku Client to EMBY Server Client<>Server Connection Troubleshooting. Note many of the pictures in this guide need updating for the latest version and new product name. Media Browser is now EMBY
  4. I have been using the built-in Emby DVR feature with mixed results and am currently evaluating the HDHomerun DVR as a backup/alternative method for recording live TV. (To digress briefly, here's my reason for exploring an alternative — Built-in Emby DVR usually works with my HDHomerun Prime, but when I'm recording more than one program at a time, or if I'm just browsing Emby media content, the recordings frequently fail or hang in the active recording state.) The early access HDHomerun DVR software currently uses an add-in for Kodi as its recording user interface, and I really don't like the way it works. However, the recording feature is rock solid and I haven't had a failed recording yet. Here's the problem: I want to store the HDHomerun DVR recorded files in a folder that will allow them to be played back by an Emby client (specifically Roku). If I create a sub-folder in the Recorded TV section, Emby apparently does not support playback of the file because it is not in the expected .ts container format, and it does not attempt to download metadata for the file. (The HDHomerun DVR format is plain old MPEG.) I got around this problem by storing the MPEG-formatted files in the Emby Movies section in a sub-folder called _HDHomerun DVR. This allows me to play the recordings on Roku, However, because Emby thinks the recorded MPEG files are movies, it either attaches the wrong metadata or no metadata at all. It uses movie databases rather that tv databases to search for information. So, to summarize this long post — Is there a way to get Emby to automatically apply TV metadata to an mpeg file?

    New User Needs Help

I am new to emby and Kodi. Just installed both and am having trouble, I have a roku 3 and have windows 10 that was upgraded from windows 8.1. My problem is when viewing content on Kodi I can't get it to show on the TV. emby shows my Roku as an active device and in the recent activity log it shows my media viewing activity from Kodi so it seems that the Roku, emby and Kodi are all connected. How do I get my movie to show up onto the TV? I'm probably overlooking something simple but Iv'e spent hours trying to figure this out. I'd sure appreciate some help. Thanks, Rich

    MB MediaCentre will not open

Media Browser++ will not open on my Roku 3 since the latest server update. The splash screen comes on but that's it. The standard Media Browser chanel still opens fine but I prefer the user interface on the version I paid for. Any idea what is going on with this? I also added Media Browser++ lite which worked fine. When I upgraded to the full version the same thing happened--the channel never opened past the splash screen.

Video error with local MP4 file

I am getting an issue when trying to play a video in both the Emby Home and on my Roku 3. I have attached both my server and transcoding logs. I can play this video normally with Windows and VLC no problem, however using Emby I get the error. I tried asking about this in the Emby Theater forum but nobody answered... Hopefully somebody will help out in here... Can anyone help with this??? server log.txt transcoding log.txt

    Old movie gets transcoded

    Hi, Some movies are being transcoded by Emby when playing to a Roku3. Problem is these same movies were not transcoded when playing to this same Roku some time ago. Roku is hooked to a receiver and, thus, has DD/DTS passthrough enabled. Passthru works on various movies when they get directly played. Maximum bitrate on Roku is set to 30. This is the mediainfo of one of these movies: General Unique ID : 176864499973909610004582734147649503017 (0x850EDD18D0677F98B96AA186F8F37F29) Complete name : \\W-EDUARDO-WEI\Videos\Filmes\The Avengers (2012)\The Avengers (2012).mkv Format : Matroska Format version : Version 2 File size : 18.3 GiB Duration : 2h 22mn Overall bit rate : 18.3 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2014-11-11 21:35:05 Writing application : mkvmerge v5.6.0 ('Kenya Kane') built on May 27 2012 16:44:04 Writing library : libebml v1.2.3 + libmatroska v1.3.0 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L5 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Muxing mode : Header stripping Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 2h 22mn Bit rate : 17.0 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.342 Stream size : 16.4 GiB (90%) Title : The Avengers (2012) Writing library : x264 core 120 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x113 / me=hex / subme=7 / psy=1 / psy_rd=1.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=12 / sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=5 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / weightb=1 / open_gop=0 / weightp=2 / keyint=240 / keyint_min=24 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=50 / rc=abr / mbtree=1 / bitrate=17000 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=3 / qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 Audio ID : 2 Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Mode : 16 Format settings, Endianness : Big Muxing mode : Header stripping Codec ID : A_DTS Duration : 2h 22mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 509 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 24 bits Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : 11ms Stream size : 1.51 GiB (8%) Title : English Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Text ID : 3 Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Title : Português Language : Portuguese Default : No Forced : No Is there other config to check? New Now TV Box

  10. I am getting mixed results loading ISO images on Media Browser on my Roku 3 (I suppose that's "as expected", from what I've read in the other forum postings) - some ISO's will load and play, others will come up in certain chapters and only play a short amount (maybe one chapter) of the movie, others will appear to load then the app will close/crash and go back to the main Roku menu. I have not done any debugging or log collecting at this point. Also, some movies don't even have the option to click "Play" - just "Back". My question: Has anyone found one particular method of ripping the ISO gives them better results on Roku? I have no problems loading any of my movies using MBC or MBT. I just got the Roku 3 and I'm enjoying it - hopefully I will have some time in the next few weeks to test more myself. My ISO rips: I currently use AnyDVD with CloneDVD2, do a full "Clone DVD" rip of the DVD and preserve menus... the kids like having the "extras" otherwise I would just rip the movie straight with no menus. I typically remove any foreign language subtitles and audio streams, leave english checked, and do a full DVD DL rip to a single .ISO image. Nothing too special/different. Thanks.

Why is the Emby Interface so ugly?

I was just curious. Is there ever going to be an update for the Roku that isn't so ugly. I love the Web Interface. I wish the Emby Channel for the Roku was a little more aesthetically pleasing. Is it just not a priority? Is it possible with the Roku? Is it too hard to program? Just curious, really. I'm not trying to be mean. It would be amazing if the front-end was as gorgeous as the back-end is powerful. Thanks.
  12. I have WMS App from Roku and it does not connect/ It does show my media server IP and Port and I can open media server from my browser but Roku says "Unable To Connect" Please make sure your server is running before attempting to add it to the server lsit. Well MBS is running. Any suggestions? BG
  13. Here's a problem I've only experienced recently with the roku application, the version you can search for officially and install directly through the roku itself. Now it doesn't _always_ happen, sometimes it does at the beginning of some videos, sometimes partially into a video this happens. Sometimes it clears up itself and the video is watchable again, sometimes it isn't and I'm forced to exit the video and resume where it left off to continue seeing clear video. I know others experience this issue, and I even was able to capture a video of it playing a video goofy. I've attached the ffmpeg logs, but the video and server logs are too large hence shown below as links. server log: http://ereader.kiczek.com/server-63524131200.log video demonstrating goofy video playback, taken with my 2k13 n7, it's a bit big at 79MB: http://ereader.kiczek.com/goofyvideo.mp4 roku client version 1.16.7 mediabrowser server version 3.0.5112.40848 note: Anyone experience the same issue or the cause? FR: Last Watched Date

Something that I think would be super useful especially when watching shows that have already been watched previously would be to display a "Last Watched Date" that displays the date/time that the episode or movie was last watched. That way if I watch something that already has the watched indicator on it and I leave to do something else(closing emby) and come back I don't have to search and guess what episode I am currently on but instead I can look at the Last Watched Date and see what episode has the latest date and continue watching. Also, if this was available another nice to have would be to have Emby on Roku automatically go to the last watched episode when going into a tv series instead of defaulting to the first season view and making me search. This would save a lot of time and me starting to watch episodes only to realize I have already recently watched them.

    Transcode audio only

Can we add a video pass thru option to the transcode settings? I have a roku directly connected to a TV that doesnt support DTS/DD, which unfortunately means that everything that doesnt have 2 channel audio is being transcoded. Which is virtually everything, putting my server under massive strain. If we had video pass thru and the transcoder was only downmixing the audio then I wouldnt need to use folder sync to pre-transcode everything (which is great having the option, but a bit painful).
  16. Before a video stops playing, I get the "Loading, please wait" message on the screen, similar to what others have reported. Would it be possible if one has the rotten tomatoes plugin installed to show in the details screen for a movie/show what the rotten tomatoes rating is? The star system works ok but it seems like everything is within a 3-4.5 star range so its difficult to really gauge the value.

  19. MB MediaCentre MB MediaCentre is an unofficial app for Roku. The app has been in the official roku store for well over a year now and will soon be updated with version 2.19 To install simply find the app in the roku store and install. Please report any problems/feature requests in this thread. Version 2.19 adds the following new features: Redesigned Live TV viewing to match the Movies/TV Shows and Music viewing with background fanarts etc. The layout now allows full navigation of all channels and programs from one screen! Unable to access developer on NowTV

This has been working fine until I attempted to install the latest roku version. 21. Just a heads up I bought a Roku streaming stick a few months ago... (to replace my XBOX One for streaming to my EMBY server) It works pretty darn well, but from the beginning the remote would randomly stop working. Had to take the batteries out and put them back in. Then it would work again. After a few months of this I finally went on-line to chat with Roku customer support. Asked them if they have had any calls regarding the remote... His response was surprising... "Actually that is the usual concern or problem of customers that are using the Roku stick". Huh? Really? Amazingly enough they have a software update out that might fix this issue. I updated mine and have not had an issue since then. Strange thing is I had to go into a hidden menu in the roku and install it manually... They didn't tell me it was a secret so here you go....... press these buttons using your Roku remote Home x5 , FF, PLAY, REW, PLAY, FF Select the Wifi remote OTA Select v34 (at this point I believe it installs the v34 software) Then press these buttons on the remote Home 5x,Fast Forward 3X, Rew 2X Now select update software (my version was 096.02E0336a and it wanted to install the SAME version number as I already had. That's what he wanted me to do and that's what I did) The Roku stick will reboot and that finishes the update. I went thru those menus pretty quick and will go back to see what was all in there. I know I saw some strength meters and a bunch of other stuff. Said IF that did not fix my remote issue to try a different wireless channel on my WIFI (interference with the remote). THIS IS JUST A FYI POST. I am pretty certain that this information is not in anyway breaking the EMBY code of conduct!

    Can't change Channels on Tuner

I searched around and couldn't find anything on this issue, so hopefully I'm not repeating something. I am running a i7 machine with WMC, MB3, ServerWMC, Hauppauge Colossus, and using ROKU3. I just downloaded the new MB3 BETA, after dealing with the Norton Security issue, but still have this issue where when I try to change channels via my ROKU3, it reverts back to the home screen. When I check the Servers, the previous channel is still streaming. I don't have logs right now, but can add them later. I was hoping, though that someone knows how to deal with this. If I reset the tuner via MB3 and WMCServer, it becomes available again. After this, I can then choose any available channel. The log basically shows that the tuner is not available. Thanks for any help. Bob

5.1 Audio on Roku not working

Hi Guys-- Longtime MB user but Forum Newbie here. I've been using MB for a while now and noticed recently that I can't seem to get 5.1 audio on my Roku 3 anymore. Before, all I had to do was to change the "Max Quality" settings under Transcoding under "Playback in the Emby server settings. In the Roku app, I had the bitrate set to 30mbps (HD). I've still got it set to 30mbps HD (the highest setting) but I still only see 2 channels coming through my receiver. Also, in the "Transcoding" settings under 'Playback", I've also still got that set to "Max Quality". I'm not using DLNA on purpose since when I stream to my PS3, it works, but, the picture is really dark. It looks way better on the Roku. Also, I don't have a DLNA profile for the Roku anyway. I looked at the logs, and on the top line of the transcode log, I see "MaxAudioChannels=2". I am certain this is the culprit, but I cannot for the life of me find where to change it. I've searched the forum for this and I didn't see anything that seemed to be related to my issue. I'm on Emby Version: 3.3.5588.1 on a Win8,1 Pro machine. I have a Gigabit connection to the Roku via my router (ASUS RT-AC68U with Merlin firmware). I have port 8096 mapped to my server in the Port Forwarding settings as well. Attached are the server and transcode logs. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but if you can point me to where I can change the audio channel setting, I'd welcome your advice! transcode-c78c2822-3078-4f14-a89c-4a8f8189107d.txt server-63565573684.txt

    Roku Revamps 2015 Models

https://www.roku.com/products/compare I read up on this and went in looking for them at the local store and they had them on display but old inventory in boxes. I was especially interested in the Roku 2 (2015 Model) 4210r. Weird things on the Roku site they dont list any changes to the Roku Stick or Roku 1 physically/hardware wise, but I ended up walking out with a Roku Stick mfg in 2015 easily determined by the advertisement of 2000+channels on the box and 2015 mfg date. The remote is improved in my opinion and has different 4 stores featured at the bottom and I swear this stick out performs the other 2 I have from 2014. Just thought I would let any Roku fans or newcomers out there know to either order directly from Roku or pay attention to the mfg date on the box, if it says 2015 you are getting the latest revisions of the hardware. The Roku 2 to me has actually become a pretty relevant option that I will be considering as another extender replacement soon.
  25. Hi Folks, Love love love Emby + Roku. Emku? Roby? Bromkue? Nothing with the Brangelina ring it should have, will keep trying, but I digress. Is anyone else having issues with either unset or home movie folders not playing media in subfolders properly? If it's "unset" there seems to be no content shown in the subfolders. If set to "home movies" I have better luck but some files seem to play as if they were many very short files. For example, newly arrived TV shows land in a folder that Metabrowser moves and sorts into its proper location. I've tried to see this "to be sorted" folder via the Roku and if the media type is unset, I don't see much of it and the files I see can't be played properly. If I set it to "home movies" I see more of the files but some of them show up in their subfolder and are played in 1 minute little jumps. When the same files are sorted into their final locations, they play fine. WTF? Any ideas?
