Hi all, I've got a fairly intricate knowledge of the DB structure for Plex, and I'd like to write a utility for those migrating from Plex to Emby for exporting the watched status for TV and Movies for a specified user. I.E. something that can run like this: Plex2Emby.sh <plex.db> <plexuser> <emby.db> <embyuser> Or, at a minimum, a series of sqlite queries that can be migrated manually. The Question Given the above, is there anyone with experience in the Emby database structure that could help guide me so I don't have to figure it all out in detail? Specifically I'm looking for: Where the trigger for "watched" status is stored (is it based on play count, a separate flag)? Does Emby store anything I can use a match reference, such as an ID from the metadata provider that is also used in Plex? Thanks.

Hello. I recenrly switched to Emby from a Kodi+Plex setup. A unified library is really handy, and Emby for Kodi is miles better than PleXBMC, however, the mobile devices don't work as well. On this page it says that direct play is only supported with H.264 encoded video in .MP4, .MOV and .M4V containers, however, Plex offered direct playback of H.264 in an .MKV (it still had to transcode when selecting subtitles, even .srt's, but that's another story). Is this feature planned? I can just use Kodi on a jailbroken iPad, but the interface clearly wasn't made with touchscreens in mind. Thanks in advance

I recently purchased a Vizio Smart TV that had a Plex app installed. I've been a long time MB / Emby user, but decided to install Plex on the same computer I use for my Emby Server and primary Emby for WMC client. (If there were an Emby app for the Vizio smart TV, I'd gladly uninstall Plex, but as far as I can tell there isn't one.) Since installing Plex, when I open Emby for WMC instead of seeing pictures for my media I initially see the default folder image for each. When I scroll through my library, the default folder images are eventually replaced with the cover art. I thought maybe this would just happen the first time I used Emby for WMC after installing Plex, but it seems to happen every time now. This computer is a Windows 7 Professional workstation. It is a dedicated Media Center PC and doesn't really have much running on it besides Emby and now Plex. The only two plugins I have installed are CoverArt 4.0.9.2 and ServerWMC 1.0.0.64. The server version is 3.0.5781.3 I'm not sure if I'm providing enough information, but I don't want to ramble. Please let me know if there is anything additional I should provide. Thanks!

Is anyone running both Emby and Plex? I am thinking about giving Plex a try but I don't want to mess up my Emby setup. Any info is welcome. Thanks.

Hi, I am new here and have a few questions. I hope this into and my questions don't get me in trouble around here (crossing any taboo lines), but here goes. I am just your basic hard headed outspoken old guy who among many other things, enjoys watching some TV and Movies. I am retired (disabled) military and live on a fixed lower end income. I don't like spending money on things I don't (or shouldn't) need, but will spend it (carefully) on what is needed. I am not a software guru (I know just enough to be dangerous), but I am a serious hardware guy (Electronic Engineering tech). I do not enjoy just trying everything out under the sun to find solutions or changing everything all the time. You could say I get pretty stuck in my ways. Phoenix was also my military callsign and trust me, I earned it (for good or bad is debatable). Towards the ends of enjoying TV and Movies, I have a number of Snap Server NAS and expansion units (somewhere upwards of 48 terabytes raw storage space, most of which was purchased prior to being retired), and here it comes, a Plex media server. Used for only LAN access, via Windows Computer(s), ROKU, and Samsung Smart TV (Smart Hub). I could go on and on, and I am sure some think I already have, but that is enough for now for a foundation. So here is the explanation and the first main question... I like(d) Plex, it did all the things I needed it to do, but it has some serious flaws. 1. Originally using an older version of FFmpg, did not support H.265 (none of my library is H.265, but it would be nice) 2. Now has switched to a newer version of FFmpg, but just had to modify it themselves and it now has issues with some MKV (My entire library is H.264 MKV). 3. And here is the biggest one, their developers and staff have very serious god complexes (some of the worst I have seen, and that is saying something). They are often very hostile towards their own community, won't listen to anything unless it was already on their agenda. My observations and experiences show that the higher up that food chain you go, the worse they get. Serious, serious A-Holes... I very much would like to switch away from Plex, but nothing I found so far out there does as well as it does (barring the newer version crapping on MKV). Most of the alternatives are just DLNA and very limited in scope etc. PlayOn is decent as far as I can tell, but it is very much tailored towards Internet media rather than local media. XBMC or whatever they are calling it now is nice, but these days, at least to me, seems like far more bells and whistles than is needed and only leads to serious complexity making it not user friendly at all and riddled with constant change and bugs (JMO). So until now, I have been pretty much stuck.... Then I saw Media Browser (or Emby, or whatever it is called, I am not sure). I freely admit I have not spent a ton of time looking at it, nor have I installed and used it yet (I hate just doing that kind of stuff willy nilly). But, from what I can see, it looks very promising. So the first real question is; Am I in the right place? Is this the true Plex replacement I and other are looking for? Something with ALL the functionality Plex had, without all the god complexes and hassles? That and sticking with media standards (like FFmpg as an example) to maintain proper compatibility with standard media.? Please no fanboy type answers. Just straight up truth, I can handle it... And please fell free to elaborate in detail. This thread will be my source of making what for me could be a major changeover. It might also help someone else along the way....

Can it be possible to store all extra features into another folder. Some of the plugins store backdrops and theme.mp3 in the same folder as the media. Can this be moved somewhere else and the reason why I ask is that I use kodi and plex for other things and they pick up those extras as movies in kodi or plex.

Hi All - I am looking at the Plex client for LG TVs and an Amazon FireTV box since MB3 is not there yet. When I set up the Plex libraries pointing at my local metadata produced over time with and without Plex/XBMC Metadata Compatibility, the results were a bit mixed up in TV with series and season posters, etc. I have already looked in the server section and at the server tutorial and the Media Files & Folders Structure, but found no documentation. Is there any documentation regarding what specific metadata is produced, renamed, reformatted by the server for both of these clients? Thanks, Tanamur

I have recently set up a server for my movie collections thanks to the help of peeps from this forum. I have upgraded from MB2 to MB3. So my initial metadata for movies was collected by Mb2, Mb3 and MCM. As of now I am only using WMC with MB3 but in the future I would like to try Plex and XBMC. What I am trying to do is collect all the metadata that would work with MB3 , Plex and XBMC before I transfer it to my server. My thinking is once I have all the metadata set up correctly then in the future I could also try Plex and XBMC. I have read that old MB2 metadata does work with MB3 and XBMC and MB3 can share the same metadata system. I have read that there is a plugin for MB server that saves XBMC and the old MB2 metadata but have not found it? Can MCM be used? This is the way I setup my folders: HD movies folder, specific movie name (1992) [1080p] folder. In this specific movie name folder I also state all metadata. What is the best way to accomplish this?
