Hi I installed emby natively on my synology and I can't play some files for some reason. Mostly tv episodes I also noticed I with the files that don't work I can't see file details like codec resolution enz... I don't think its a permission problem sins I put on permissions manually and I don't find that error in the logs. Hi All, I am really hoping that somebody can help me out. I have a VPS set up and tbh the spec is pretty low so i wanted to upload my media to my VPS and then sync to google drive. Once synced to google drive, 'The Plan' was to get emby to only allow playback of google drive links. I have managed to get everything set up and whilst at work today i was testing everything from the office and everything was working perfectly. For those that dont know how i achieved this i done the following: 1. synced all my media to google drive with the following criteria. a. Set profile to baseline b. quality to custom c. MBps set to 30mbps 2. I then set the playback setting under User Settings > Playback to 30MBps 3. I set the maximum bitrate Dashboard > Playback > Streaming to 100MBps 4. Disabled playback of media that requires transcoding in the user account settings. (I think that was everything) Now with this setup i managed to play back the media in a Google chrome browser and every time it played perfectly from Google Drive. I came home two hours later and now it wont play from Google Drive :/ I am also using the Kodi Addon (Wrong place to mention it i know) and that wint play a stream full stop. I know plenty of people have mentioned streaming from google and stuff like that but i am really keen to get this to work, there doesn't seem to be a lot of talk about it and if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it. Starting to feel like i am going around in circles. Any help. from anyone would be a lifeline. Thanks Mike

Hi guys, Tonight while playing a TV show using Emby addon, with direct streaming over HTTPS from Emby server, the playback stopped several times and went back to the episode selection. This happened to me at least 4-5 times in a 1hr episode. Waiting a few seconds and pressing <enter> on the episode, will resume playback most of the times but sometimes it will just restart playback from the beggining and I had to FF to the point when playback stopped. The network is solid too, I'm using a wired connection. Plus I never have this kinds of problem before without using the Emby addon (direct NFS play), or using it with Emby addon direct play/local paths (using NFS too). I don't have time to check direct stream over HTTP tonight but I will do it tomorrow to verify if the problem is in any way related to the protocol in use. One last note: in the addon setting I had defined the IP address of the server to connect to, not the name, but the server certificate CN value holds the server fqdn instead. This is a request from my wife, who likes Plex better because you can select the audio track and subtitles before launching the movie. I like MBT better as an all-in-one solution to Plex's more limited capacity, but I have to hand this one to her: that feature really is nice when dealing with a lot of foreign-language content.

Emby threw out an error: Cannot handle exception "Job". Shortly after, all video playback stopped. I'm using the most recent beta. To fix this issue: Do NOT reset the server. Go to task manager and kill the task "ffmpeg.exe". After that, restart the server. Not killing the transcoding will disable all access to the web interface, via emby app or localhost.

Hi, Been having issues with playback stutter, testing below. I'm not sure if its time for an upgrade or if this is a fault that can be resolve, read on and you decide. Test has been performed on a complete fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit SP1 with all updates and all drivers up to date. Emby server: Version 3.0.5597.1 Using Inerstellar 1080p MKV for test file. When running the file through Emby classic (classic is located on the same PC as the Emby server), CPU resources are barely used and video runs great: when running through web browser on Emby sever, CPU usage spikes with ffmpeg.exe and video stutters. Video is running at the highest framerate of 30mbs, but ihave tried various framerates and it has no affect. Logs are attached in case this is a fault. PC specs ( dont laugh, this PC has treated me well) Intel core quad q9400 2.66 8 gig ddr2 Amd radeon hd6450 I guesss there are 2 questions here: 1. Since Emby classic runs fine, why does the Emby Browser browser not, or seem resource hungry when playing the video file? 2. Will upgrading my hardware resolve this? Really want to know before i throw money at new hardware. Hello @all, I have an Upload speed of 6mbps but Emby only uses 4mbps no matter what transcoding and playback settings I choose. So, I tried a lot, including VPN access to the LAN, prioritisation of process and traffic but nothing worked so far. The google chrome browser is the culprit, it uses only half of the available bandwith of the media browser server! When using firefox it uses the whole bandwidth and so I have no annoying stuttering anymore. Anyone here who had the same problem? Thanks @EmbyTeam - You are the best!

Hi After recently updating Emby server, playback via IE on my Xbox one has started to stutter. I have tried all of the available quality settings but they make no difference. The audio is fine but the video stutters constantly. Running the latest stable server release on a windows 8.1 pc. Can anyone help? I've a grumpy 4 year old that wants to watch her films! Cheers Si

I've been trying to get this to work now for a few weeks. Hate to compare to the "other" media server out there, Plex, but this resume function kinda has me scratching my head. It seems to me the way it should work, as it does on the other tool, is when say a video, be it TV, Movie, whatever, is started on the Android App or in a browser, the server should remember the spot where the video was stopped, then no matter how long it is later, I should be able to pick up right back at that same spot, aka, Resume, correct? In Emby, I start a video playing on Android, then it does indeed show up in the Resume category in the browser with the green bar indicating how much is left to view, I select Resume for playback, and without fail it goes back to the beginning of the video. I hate to sound like I'm complaining, because I truly find the convenience of either of these media server tools to be mind blowing, and Emby has some great stuff going for it over Plex, except this one thing has been bugging me, and as a supporting member of the community/tool, I'd really like to have this aspect functioning. I've attached an image of my Playback/Resume settings. Maybe I'm missing something completely obvious. If so, any thoughts? Thanks! Brandon

Here's what I think is a simple question. Is it possible to use Emby to host a multi-room audio playback system using DLNA speakers (like the Pioneer XW-SMA1-K)? It would be great if I could have several of these speakers around the house and from the music section of Emby simply select "Play to XX device". If this is possible, I'm thinking I would then be able to play different tracks to different speakers, which would make this a great alternative to Sonos. Is anyone using Emby for something like this, or have a better solution?

I really hope that someone can help. I've used MB3 since about January and had no issues until a month or two ago. I use MB3 primarily to watch my movies (mp4/m4v) on the iPads via the media browser app (latest update). Previously, I had no issues watching movies both within my network and externally. Then, all of the sudden, playback stopped working on most movies and I can't figure out the cause. I have an iPad 2 (iOS7) and an iPad Mini (iOS8) and both have same issues. I am able to see the library and select the movie, but the movies just won't load. Just get the spinning wheel and sometimes I have to manually kill the app to get out of it. It doesn't happen with all movies, but it happens with most. To clarify, if a particular movie doesn't work, it never works and if a movie works, then it always works. Server (Version 3.0.5395.0) is on a Windows 7 64bit machine. If I use Safari to access the server, I am able to play all the movies fine. I am okay with doing this but that process is not so easy for the other people in the house. I've uninstalled the app and MB3 Server and started from scratch but had no luck. I love this program when it works and I really hope that someone can help me with this. Attached is the log that I think that you need. Have an external family member trying to use the PS4 web browser which appears to be working pretty well except for one thing. When trying to maximize the video playback it doesn't appear to do anything and leaves the url bar showing in the web browser. Using other video websites on the device such as youtube allows the device to full screen correctly and removes the url bar. Not sure if there is any developers or other testers out there with a PS4 that could test this as I don't have this device directly in front of me that's about all the feedback I can report.

Hey there, I just wanted to say that the new update to the android app looks great. However, it used to work beautifully for me without issue but after the update playback won't start for any media types; movies or music. I also tried the web app on my ANdroid and transcoding will begin but playback will not start. This all started after the most recent updates. I will be happy to attach any logs you need. Also a family member that access my server over the web via a roku said that they couldn't get a movie to start either. I'm not sure if the two issues are related or not. The ability to select a position in any season for Television and be able to "Play Next Continuously". This ability doesn't seem present in current MBT, I see no mention of this anywhere nor do I even seem to find anyone even asking about it. But it would be nice to set constant playback for TV and let it roll while doing other things.

In the new player UI the end of the timeline shows the the time I started watching the video, not the time left in the video, like the old player. Is there a way to determine time left in a video in the new player? As far as I can tell, I get the time elapsed on the left, the actual time (i.e. 7:40) of day I started the video, but not an estimated end time (as is shown in some screenshots) or time left in the video. That would be really helpful, as we use that all the time. Another odd thing - I'm watching mostly standard mkv files, but so far none of them saves the spot at which I stop a video. Resume never shows as an option after I stop playing a video, and if I play again after I've stopped, it starts at the very beginning again. Am I missing something? I'm using this on a Windows 7 system, if that makes any difference? Thanks! Eddie

(I originally posted this on the old support forums for MB2 but I think it's still relevant info. Hopefully it can get added to the tutorials.) If you're like me, you use MB over your XBox 360 and if you're like me you've had nothing but issues with your MKV files especially as of late. These are my finds and they are based upon the fact that you have a properly installed MB and are already capable of watching some MKV files on your XBox, these fixes are only to correct specific issues. ***Problem #1*** "ARGH! My MKV plays but it's stuttering like crazy."* (Jerky video playback) ***Solution:*** This is most likely caused by either subtitles or menus added to the MKV file. To correct this. Download MKVToolnix and use mkvmerge.exe to remove the subtitles and menus like this; - Open mkvmerge GUI and load your problem MKV - Uncheck the boxes next to any subtitles or menus. - Make sure the check marks next to the Video and Audio stream are still checked and hit "Start Muxing" The resulting file should play with no issues at this point. ***Problem #2*** "OMFG WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS STUPID THING?!?!? I have audio but no video.* (Audio is playing fine but the screen is black) ***Solution:*** Don't know how or why but this fixes it; - Open mkvmerge.exe and load your problemed MKV (mkvmerge.exe is a part of MKVToolnix) - Click on your video stream under "Tracks, chapters and tags:" - Click on the "Extra Options" tab and for "Compression" select none. Do the same as step 3 for the audio stream. - Make sure the check marks next to the Video and Audio stream are still checked and hit "Start Muxing" The resulting file should play with no issues at this point. ***Problem #3*** "Ok I've tried everything and nothing works. 'Bounces head off desk'."* (No worries, you're not alone.) ***Solution:*** You unfortunately may need to re-encode your video files. This isn't as scary as you might think and as long as you're running a decent computer it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to re-encode your file. Here's what to do; - Grab a program called Handbrake and a program called MediaInfo and install them. When installing MediaInfo select "Text" for Output format. Once you've installed Handbrake change the "Priority level" to Normal in options under the "System and Logging" tab. - Drag and drop your video file onto the MediaInfo icon and remember one bit of info, under the video section, "Bit rate" - Now drag and drop your video file onto the Handbrake icon and change the "Output Settings" to "MKV File" then reference the following links to set the rest of the settings. Video Tab, Audio Tab, Advanced Tab - With all these settings set I recommend saving the profile for future use. Then the only thing you need to set each time is the "Bit rate" on the "Video" tab. - Press "Start" and wait for your encode to finish. I strongly recommend leaving your computer alone until it's done. (If you use my settings exactly, you will see no difference in the video quality of your file and it will play perfectly on the XBox.) *If none of this works for you, maybe you've found a new problem for me to beat my head against the wall about. lol Post it in here and I'll try to help you.* **My Setup Is** - Intel i5-3350p - 16gig of ram - 20TB Raid 0 (Where all my videos are stored) - 256GB SSD (Where Windows/MB3 are stored) - Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit - Shark007 Standard Codecs (32bit and 64bit v1.7.6 at time of posting this) - XBox 360 (I do not use Transcoding and all files play over the 360) - MB3/MB3 Classic - Current Release I find it doesn't matter what bit rate your files are at or size. I play files well over 7GB on my xbox with 5.1 audio with no issues. Make sure you have the "Optional Media Update" update found in the xbox live market place installed on your xbox it allows for AAC audio and a few other things it doesn't talk about.

I'd like to request an option to allow videos to keep playing one after another rather than stopping after each video. I want to select the first video and then have it keep playing until the last episode in the season or folder because i may have already watched the previous episodes. Thanks for your consideration!

Hi I have a problem with Media Browser Theater version 3.0.5168.25066 (although I have seen the problem on and off for a while). When playing videos in full screen it plays with a flickering effect that isn't present when not in full screen mode. really strange problem, reinstalled my workstation ( replaced HDD with SSD ) windows 8.1 installed MBC and after move starts to play Media Center immediately is gone only the desktop is shown, in facts it's hidden no ting on the taskbar, and in the task manager Media Center is still on as Media Player too what can the problem be ?

UPDATED: 2-13-14 I updated the configuration I am using...again. I was getting random missed events with the original configuration and now its working much better. Not perfect, but much better. You should be able to use this for any media player you use. You just need to point the entries which say "EDIT" to the program of your choosing. I found out the reason for not being able to capture the focus of the program. There is a plugin called "Task Create/Switch Events". This will help determine when an application has been brought to front, closed or minimized. The catch is that you need explorer to be running in order to capture "Task" events. So I am stuck capturing process events which has been a bit more tricky to get to work right. -- If anyone knows about creating python scripts and would like to create a script to make EventGhost better at this whole convoluted process, then be my guest and let us know what you come up with -- Changes 2-13-14 1. Pre-Starts 'media program' (PowerDVD, JRiver, Total Media Theater, etc..) at initial boot then after 20 seconds, the 'media program' is minimized, sent to the back and Media Browser is brought into focus. Reason I changed it to 20 seconds is during a cold boot, it takes time for the media program to be loaded, and the process I capture is created before the program shows up so adding the extra time makes EventGhost wait till the next step in the process. 2. Added a "Left Mouse Click" to certain areas. I had issues with PowerDVD loosing focus after it loaded, even though it was on top and maximized. Probably due to more processes being created. So this left click was the only way I found so far to get it back into focus. Maybe I should have EG wait 30 seconds or so to pre-load the media program to keep it in focus. 3. Cleaned up Event Tree Notice - This IS NOT meant to be a plug and play setup but with a few tweaks you should be able to get it to work. This is meant to put you on the right path for a working Work-Around. - You will need to capture the proper events specific to the program you are using. Example, Process.Destroyed.PDVDLP is actually telling me that PDVD has been sent to the rear or closed. The PDVDLP portion is PDVDLP.EXE so you will need to start up your media program, then minimize it and watch for the specific events on the left hand side column in Event Ghost which will give you realtime list of all events its monitoring. In my quest to make this work "for now" untill MBT becomes beta or further and plugins are offered, I continued to find a way to get automatic disc playback when MBT is used as windows shell (not explorer). When Explorer.exe is closed or not used, Windows looses all the AutoPlay functions we use. Instant Sheller is what I used to make MBT Windows Shell MBT Program Path (C:\Users\*UserAccount*\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Theater\System\MediaBrowser.UI.exe) Download Event Ghost Download EventGhost Tree XML (As a template) (Updated 2-13-14) When loading Event Ghost, go to "FILE" and "OPEN" then browse to EventGhost Tree.xml. I ended up capturing the system event...."System.DriveMounted.E" and "System.DriveRemoved.E" to auto start PowerDVD13 and play the disc and close PowerDVD13 when ejecting the disc. The. ".E" is the drive letter. Though I have yet to capture the correct even to get PowerDVD to close when I press the STOP button. I need to conversate with the folks at EG some more to see if someone can write a script with that. A picture of the event tree. I understand that there is still a lot of work to be done with regards to music in MB3, but I wanted to submit some of the requests I have been looking for, but never found all at the same time in a media player. Hopefully all of these can be implemented at some point in the future as it would definitely satisfy all of my needs with regards to music playback. Crossfader Media Browser definitely needs a crossfader with options for amount of time to crossfade and whether to fade out when stopping playback or not. Also the option to cross fade only tracks within the same albums or artist might be useful too. Playback options Play modes - Alphabetical (plays tracks in order of track name) Numerical (plays tracks in order of track number) Random (plays tracks in a random order) Repeat (plays tracks again after finishing) Play from - All Genre Album Artist Artist Album Year Playlist If currently browsing a specific Genre/Artist/Album/etc., the play mode should only play music from that Genre/Artist/Album/etc. Otherwise, MB should request for the source to be chosen. Mutiple Genres/Artists/Albums/etc. should be able to be selected from a simple folder tree view of the entire library. When using Random, tracks should be played only from the chosen Genre/Artist/Album/etc. and can play from multiple Genres/Artists/Albums/etc. if they are also selected. The Repeat mode should be able to be combined with other play modes. Should also be able to use Repeat when only playing single tracks. Party Mode There should be an option to prevent people from exiting Media Browser, the Music library or the Music Now Playing screen without using some kind of remote/keyboard shortcut with a PIN/Password to unlock it. This could allow for other people to add songs from the library to the playlist themselves, or stop anyone from messing with it at all during a party or something like that. Now Playing Visualisations It would be great to have a variety of visualisation options for the Now Playing screen built-in, with the ability to add more via plug-ins (WinAmp style). Options should include whether the Album Art is displayed, what size it is displayed at, the screen position it is displayed and whether it is always displayed or only during the beginning/middle/end of the song or not at all. The same would go for other track details such as Artist, Album, Track number, Track title, Year, Genre, Rating or other comments if applicable. Things like the font, font size and font colour should also be customisable, even when a Theme is being used. There should be various background options such as something like the Album Art waterfall in Windows Media Center. It should be possible to tell it how fast to flow, whether to flow up/down/left/right, the size of the images, and whether or not it uses album art images from the entire library, or the current Genre/Artist/Year/Playlist/etc. ReplayGain Support Support for ReplayGain tags definitely needs to be included for both track and album gain. Using track gain values over album gain values can result in more consistent volume levels when playing random tracks from different albums. On the other hand album gain values are more recommended for listening to whole albums straight through. An option to use either track or album gain for different playback modes would be great.

I would like to see the android client allow for playback to continue whenever the screen shuts off (including when the device gets locked). I should also point out that I do have task killers etc... installed on my device, so it's possible that the app is already capable of this, and that it's a 3rd party app interfering.

Im using ROC version 1.0.2.0 I am unable to play certain TV series 4 of them in total when I click on episode to play I get unable to launch media browser 3 However normal playback occurs in pearl and default theme Can anyone help? Thanks
