  1. Since the update yesterday I can no longer access my server through any device. A majority of my movies/TV shows metadata was wiped out and even when I try and reset them every time I do a search, either with the name of the file or the IMDB code it finds NOTHING. Everything was working perfectly prior to this update yesterday. I am so beyond frustrated. If anyone can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated. I am a beginner with all of this and I do not know what to do!!
  2. I have a couple of films/movies where I would like to add extra information in the style of a list. I hoped to put this information within the <plot> tags, but it displays as a single block of text. Is there anyway I can achieve this? Thanks.
  3. I noticed a big issue after the update/conversion - and the fix regarding them. First - The library scans for my TV shows were not functioning correctly. Upon digging into the issue I found that the metadata scrapers in each of the libraries were changed from my preset defaults to something else. MyAnimeList keyboard_arrow_up Proxer keyboard_arrow_up AniSearch keyboard_arrow_up AniList keyboard_arrow_up AniDB These 5 were placed above tvdb, etc - causing the metadata to grab the closest match in the anime world. IE: Instead of grabbing "The Curse of Oak Island" , it was grabbing "The Curse of Kazuo Umezu" ... I had to go into my library for the tv shows, turn on advanced, and change the level or uncheck each of these in order for the system to recognize the proper television series. This would have became a complete nightmare had I caught it later.... The thing that tipped me off towards this issue was getting the newest episode and the Auto Organize - giving a 'null' error - when in fact the data was on the TvDb website. I hope this helps someone

Audio metadata display incorrect on Pie

Hello all! I just moved from Subsonic (using DSub on Android mobile) to Emby for my music as well as my videos. And for the most part it is doing pretty well now. However, I noticed that an issue that had been reported for DSub is also currently manifesting itself in the Emby Android app in a very similar manner (with properly tagged and permissioned MP3 files). It has to do with BT metadata. It appears that, in Android 9 Pie, metadata display doesn't work like it used to with previous versions of the OS. Specifically, the song title is duplicated in the album name field now. I am not sure why this is but I think it may be only affecting those with Pie (I have a stock Google Pixel 2). I apologize in advance if this may have been already reported; I tried to find via the forum search but was unsuccessful. I have the most recent version of the Emby Android app as of this post. Many thanks!
  5. Hi, Trying not to post something that's been covered elsewhere but I'm not finding this specific issue... See screenshot below from the web app. Each track is by a different artist, but one can't tell which artist goes with which track. The artist grouping at the top seems to be alpha sorted by first name. If I select "edit metadata" for any one track, the artist for that track is shown (see second screenshot), but that's not really a solution to have to "edit" a track to see a basic piece of info. I'm counting "artist" as "basic info" I haven't checked android (or any other) native app to see if this is different there. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature request. thanks!
  6. I have one library with all my shows, but sometimes metadata managers screw up and it's really hard to make it usable manually (For example Gintama with over 200 episodes). Is there a way to create plain folder view of a media folder? When i tried to create different library with different content type but same folder, metadata just got copied over to new library.

    Genre section

The Genre section does not appear to be working on my two servers. They are completely independent of each other and have their own libraries. The movies have their genres appropriately assigned when looking at a specific movie's info in the UI. However, when I click Genres in the Movies section the result is a blank screen in the web UI. When selecting the green Genres tab in the Roku app the results returned is 0. Shouldn't this Genre tab/section show "buckets" for SciFi, Drama, Comedy, etc., and in those buckets are movies with the associated genre? If not, what populates this Genre section? When troubleshooting I check the box to create NFO files and they were properly generated but it had no effect on the Genres section. To reproduce via web UI: emby Home click Movies thumbnail click Genres in top banner where options are Movies, Suggestions, Trailers, Collections, Genres. Genres returns blank screen below banner. The HTML of the button in question is below. <button type="button" is="emby-button" class="emby-tab-button emby-button emby-tab-button-active" data-index="5"><div class="emby-button-foreground">Genres</div></button> I added the Collections plugin and when clicking Collections in the top banner all of the collection buckets come up and contain the associated movies. Kudos for that plugin! Is this not how Genres should work? Thanks for any help in resolving this!
  8. I've been looking through forum posts and help files, and I haven't found a definitive answer to these questions. Metadata, including tags and images, can be drawn from several locations - embedded in media files, stored locally alongside media files ("sidecar"), and from online sources like last.FM, Gracenote, etc. I'm wondering in what order Emby searches for these, and in what order Emby prioritizes them. I can see in the Library properties that I can prioritize the online sources, but I see no way to tell Emby to prefer local metadata over online, or embedded vs. sidecar. For example (sorry to compare to Plex, but that's my experience) Plex can be configured to search for and use embedded tags if present (except images - more on that later). Only if an embedded tag is missing or improper, it then goes to the online source (Plex doesn't support sidecar tags, like Emby does). They used to prefer embedded images, but, because embedded images tend to be low resolution (so not suitable for large display), they switched to preferring sidecar images, then embedded, then online. So how does Emby prioritize metadata sources? Also, if I manually edit tags, is there a way to tell Emby not to replace my changes during a refresh?
  9. Hello.. Was wondering if there's a way to see and sort by the bit rate of different movies? I have movies which I encoded many years ago and as technology changes, so does processing power, program updates, etc. Seeing which movies need to be re-encoded, etc., would be nice from within the dashboard or something similar. Thank you..
  10. I am running Version 3.6.0.79 beta on Qnap. After loading my music into Emby, no alum art or metadata is shown. All of the files have been tagged with MusicBrainz Picard and are in m4a format. Here is a sample file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ld9ekvqxh4ybd71/01_Arabian_Nights.m4a/file Why do I not see any metadata or album art?
  11. Not sure when this started. Anyone one else had this issue?
  12. (I'm using Classical Music as an example, but this would certainly apply to other genres such as Jazz, Blues, and even some Folk) On MacOS I know of only one music player that offers comprehensive tagging of classical music, and that's the (very expensive) Roon. Tagging classical music is notoriously difficult, but here is what you need to get your foot in the door. Title Artist Album Track Number Track Length Album Artist Album Artist (Sort) Artist (Sort) Composer Composer (Sort) Conductor Conductor (sort) Genre Performer Soloist Work Movement Movement name Movement # There will seem to be a lot of repetition because the first 8 or so are used for modern music, in Classical music this is usually tagged to personal preference because it's inadequate. So if we tagged, say a Bach Concerto it might look something like this: Title: Concerto No.1 in F major BWV 1046 - I Allegro Artist: Consort of London, Robert Haydon Clark Album: Bach Edition, I: Orchestral Works/Chamber Music Track Number: 1 Track Length: 3:58 Album Artist: Johann Sebastian Bach Album Artist (Sort): Bach, Johann Sebastian Artist (Sort): Consort of London, Clark, Robert Haydon Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach Composer (Sort): Bach, Johann Sebastian Conductor: Robert Haydon Clark Conductor (sort): Clark, Robert Haydon Genre: Classical Performer: Consort of London Soloists: n/a for this piece 1. 2. 3. etc... etc... Work: Brandenburgisches Konzert {Concerto}:: Nr. 1 F-Dur, BWV 1046 {No.1 in F major …} Movement: Allegro Movement name: Allegro Movement #: 1 Here the title isn't the same as the work since the (complete) work is 4 separate tracks, also the performer, conductor and soloists are all different and could certainly all be different to the 'Artist' tag depending on how one decides to use the tags for modern music. These sorts of tags become even more important because many people who enjoy classical music have the same pieces performed by different people. Different conductors/soloists interpret different pieces in different ways. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Rachmaninoff played by Earl Wild and sometimes van Cliburn. Jazz poses some of the same problems. Old songs are played by different people, or the same people with different backup bands and soloists etc. With the limitations of tagging for modern music it gets hard to separate them all. I think Emby should seriously consider a robust tagging system that accommodates a wide range of musical styles for the simple reason that others are not doing it, and the ones that are doing it are premium (read: expensive) services. And in doing so, win a lot of music lovers to your platform.
  13. Hi, First of all, I tried using newest Beta and newest Release. I've added a new Music library with 3 FLAC songs to Emby and refreshed the library multiple times. Now, it shows me all songs correctly. Well almost, see yourself: The third song, which I'm playing right now has the Artist tag "SYML; Lily Kershaw". It shows correctly on bottom, so where it shows what I'm playing. But on the Songs Overview it just shows "SYML". So that's the first problem. Now, when I click at the artist at bottom left, it opens the "SYML" artist overview. But never the artist overview of the other artist, it just doesn't exist. And yes, Emby recognizes her as an artist, see here: I also want to add that you can't open the specific artist Overview from the Artists tab, just from songs. And now comes the biggest problem. The SYML artist overview, which is the only one which exists, looks like this: I don't think it should be completely empty... Oh and I tried setting it up multiple times, and the first time I did it with Emby, it wasn't empty. But it put every single song from SYML into a single album, even though they all have different album tags. Here's the metadata of one file: It is correctly set in the metadata manager btw. I wanna swich from Plex to Emby because Plex doesn't support multiple Artists, but apparently Emby does. Developers here don't seem to be so ignorant to user feedback like Plex is, so I'm asking here if you could do anything about this problem. I've added the server log file if it helps. Thanks a lot! embyserver.txt
  14. I'd really love some information on TV files on Emby Server and how I can edit the metadata. I am able to create nfo files using Emby for movies and then I am building a program to edit them simply and usefully. But I can't seem to find anywhere that nfo files are created for TV Shows. Does it happen? How does Kodi get the tag or genre information for them? And is there a way to get Kodi to notice that I have added more shows. If I go into them one at a time on my phone it notices them, one at a time. They have been there for 24 hours, it is never going to notice them unless I go to each show individually. Surely there must be something I can do on Emby Server to mark them as new? I am sorry, I hate posting in a forum and I really have searched for information. Emby for Kodi is very poorly documented. Sam.
  15. I have some tv shows that I previous recorded, and it has subtitles burned within the video. So my question is: Is there any way to tell Emby those specific files have subtitles? At the moment Emby dont think there is any subtitles

    Primary posters not downloading

Greetings, I have had Emby for a long time now, and for a while it has had an issue where the primary images aren't being downloaded automatically for movies I add to the database. If I manually go in and edit images, I can do a search and grab the primary image. But for some reason, Emby isn't doing this automatically. I do notice that if I try to manually grab the primary image, in the selector, the first thumbnail is always blank. I'm guessing that's some website that Emby can no longer reach? And perhaps this is what it is set to as the default image to search for? Is there a way to troubleshoot and fix this? Thank you!

    Fetching metadata via system proxy

Hi all Literally just finished a docker install of Emby, and at the moment everything seems to be working nicely, BUT, I cannot retrieve metadata. I am behind a proxy, and have no VPN/other way of connecting to the internet. I have a system proxy configured, but it seems Emby is not taking it into account. It may be that it is because Emby is not aware of it via Docker container, and I am not sure if adding it via an environment variable will help? In the past, with Java based products, I was able to add "-Dhttp.proxy" option to the launching parameters, and it would also help. Is there some similar way in doing it with Emby? I will install Emby as a "raw" server on my Fedora machine, if the Metadata will be pulled via proxy. I just used Docker to see whether or not the product works, and it looks nice. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Relocate Media Library Metadata

I recently had a scenario where I had my Media and the Emby Server (portable) on the same drive. I relocated the Emby Server (portable) to a new drive. It correctly targeted the new location for ProgramData (../ProgramData) without configuration. However, the existing libraries (Movies, TV Shows) still had their metadata configured for the old location. The only solution to fix this was to remove the libraries and recreate them. This takes a considerable amount of time and bandwidth. Please add the ability to relocate a library's metadata location, or detect that the ProgramData location has changed. I imagine this feature would be good for both the Portable and Standard server implementations. P.S. - Emby is a great product and I am a proud monthly supporter!
  19. Emby 3.5.3.0 on Synology DS216play with DSM 6.2.1 I have been using emby server on Synology has for a few months now. After a recent reset of NAS ( reinstall) and install of emby server, It fails to connect with external services. At present I am unable to add emby connect ID, search for meta data, check for updates to emby etc. It's like emby wouldn't connect to internet. I checked and internet is working fine on nas. I don't recall any extra settings to enable emby to access internet. Is there any? Could it be that these are related to problem may be at emby's end.? This is what error message I get when emby tries to check for updates. 20. Is it or will it be possible for Emby to show the audio media info correctly in the near future? (audiostream with object sound) Right now it's only showing TrueHD or DTS-MA instead of Atmos / DTS:X The new MediaInfo version is now supporting this: "Dolby Atmos (in E-AC-3 or TrueHD): support of bed channel count/configuration + objects count + complexity index" I tested it and it shows the correct info: This would be a neat feature, makes it easier to see what audioformat the movie has.

    actor information

Where does emby pull and store the meta-data on actors? The reason I'm asking is that I just watched "Buck Privates" (1941)and Shemp Howard is in the cast. When you open up the listing under his name all it shows is Birth and Death information, nothing else. If you go to the IMDB page for Buck Privates and then look up Shemp it shows his Bio. I have found several actors whose information is blank. Is there a way to force the actor data to update? Because someone like Shemp, Moe, Larry, and Curly's infromation should not be blank!
  22. i'm wondering if i'm missing something or if this feature is working as intended. does the "replace all metadata" with "replace existing images" selected also refresh metadata and images on items marked as "lock this item from future changes" ? my goal is to set some movies to have custom poster images and/or custom sort titles, lock them, and still be able to refresh the rest of the library, but right now my custom selections are getting wiped out. how do i set my server to really and truly lock metadata and/or images on an item?

    Is Metadata from guide used?

I'm finding there's a lot of things from live TV that will never be in theTVDB or IMDB databases. Or, they are behind or not accurate. When a recording is saved in the library, does it initially use the information from the guide to start the metadata? Seems like the Title, the poster image, rating, genre, tagged with channel recorded from, etc could be used. And, I would see that this data would not get trumped by the other metadata refreshes. The guide data should be gospel. Then only if it's wrong, we can manually correct it.
  24. I just tried the Folder Sync plugin and it works as expected. Except, it only copied the media. I have my metadata save in files with the media. Can you also copy the metadata files as well. You could make it optional with a setting? My plan is to install Emby on the Laptop and take it with me to use offline at my vacation home where I have multiple TVs using Rokus. I will create a library to point at the sync folder. I'm assuming if the metadata files are already there, it will use them and not refresh them? I'm current using the 3.6.0.44 BETA.
  25. I use emby as a server for large amount of pictures. I put all my pictures for emby to manage but I don't want some of them to be seen by my family so I tag my private folders with a tag named "priv" and I use the "block items with tags" to deny access (yes, I use parental control on my parents). However it would be more convenient for me if I could somehow add the tag from the filesystem level e.g. create a file named "folder.nfo" or similar and put the tags there. The advantage is that these files would be automatically backed up along with the content to some other drive. Other advantage: it's faster to copy a file than to click, scroll, type, click and click again in web client for every folder I want to exclude.
