Blu-ray folder: it doesn't identify the language of the audios and subtitles.
Juan Simón posted a topic in Linux
Emby server v4.3.1.0 Arch Linux I have added several blu-ray folders and although Emby identifies them correctly, it does not detect the language of the audios and subtitles. -
Hello, We use playlists a lot for video files. In fact, it’s the primary reasons we moved over from Plex, because Emby has so many more options for dealing with playlists. However, in using it, I’ve learned that there is an oddity with the way that Emby deals with playlists. When Emby makes a playlist, if more than one version of a file exists, Emby chooses a non-specific or random version of the title that you add to the playlist. The user has no idea which version it chooses or why. It won’t always choose the highest or lowest resolution, or the mkv or HEVC. There’s no apparent rhyme or reason. So, if you have more than one file and make any changes to those files (delete the low res version for instance, leaving the other files intact or rename a hard drive - adding the new location while the first still exists to be sure everything matches up), even though those files are still there under the media title, it wrecks or even deletes the playlist automatically. I find this strange. So, I cannot specify if I want Emby to use the higher def version of a file. It just uses what it wants. However, if that file disappears, instead of just using/playing the alternate file that’s still available for that show or movie title, instead Emby deletes the playlist altogether. Also, for instance, I recently had to move the location of the files on my media drives. I had the files added to my TV Libarary from both drives simultaneously and all the files were pointed to the same titles. However, when I removed the original drive, all my playlists were deleted - even though all the titles were still there, the files were still there, and nothing has changed. I nevertheless lost all my Playlists - once again because they are based on files not titles. What’s more confusing is just now knowing what files it’s choosing to use as the basis for the playlist. This means I have even less control because I have no idea what Emby is using. Is this a bug or was it designed that way for some reason? I’ve not come across playlists behaving like this before. I like Emby better than Plex, which is why it’s our primary media server now but just as a contrast, regardless of the files and drives that one adds to Plex, the playlists don’t change because they are based on the media title, not the specific files attached to those titles. So, if the files for any given title are changed behind the scenes, it doesn’t wipe out the playlist. I’m wondering why Emby, too, isn’t making the playlists based on the titles themselves, not the files. This would allow the files relating to any given title to change while still keeping the playlist intact, if it based upon the title (letting Emby simply look to play whatever files are available for that title). I’d love to hear more about this and perhaps why Emby behaves this way. It’s puzzling, especially as we don’t have any option to choose which files it’s adding to the playlist (for instance the lower or high res, if there are more than one). Any thoughts you could share would be brilliant. Thanks so much in advance!

Hello, I’m having a few issues with Emby. I’ve worked hard on my current install making all the images and metadata correct. I have all data and images being saved into the media folders. Everything was pretty much setup when suddenly, all my movies had no images showing at all (oddly descriptions/metadata is fine, it’s only the images that seem to be the problem. I can’t figure out what’s wrong and can’t seem to sort this out without overwriting all the custom metadata, too. The images are in fact, in the folders (I checked) but Emby isn’t actually pulling/viewing them from within the folders. This happened suddenly, with no warning and no changes made. Secondly, many of the actors/other cast/crew are not showing up correctly. Where an image should be, there’s an empty placeholder. This time rather than being all of the actors/cast/crew, it’s just a random few. When I do a force refresh and let it replace images, it will fix it but I cannot seem to do this on a larger scale - I’m having to refresh one person at a time, over and over and over again. Second piece, I’m also in the process of moving my Emby install to a new distro (I’m having too many problems with my current distro). Everything is pretty much installed (though I had a terrible time being able to have the server actually show up). Now that I have, I noticed that Emby isn’t pulling the data from my local folders. In fact, in many cases, it’s overwriting all the data I worked so hard to get right. I followed the instructions (installed Emby, setup a new server, added my Emby Premiere, installed the Emby Backup plugin, grabbed the previous backup and used it on the new Emby Server). However, I can’t figure out why it’s pulling data from the internet first and actually wrecking a ton of work that I’ve done on fixing many of the titles. Emby is doing this by overwriting the images and even metadata that is stored in the media folders. It’s like it’s ignoring that data and I don’t know why. Worse than ignoring it, it’s overwriting it so that all the days of work that I’ve done, I’ve completely lost. Any help would be really appreciated. I’d love to not only fix these problems but understand why it’s actually doing them. Thanks so much in advance!a @cayars

Hi, I’ve been trying to clean up my Emby install/media since I moved it to a different distro. I’m trying to get my images all the way I want them. I’ve noticed a lot of them are quite small (around 400x550ish). When I click on the search icon to find another image, then I click on the image, I’m having something strange. Used, to, Emby would just use the new image and the image chosen would be whatever size it is in the search option (often 1000x1500). However, now, even though the images are actually 1000x1500, when I choose the, Emby is somehow reducing their resolution to the 400x550 (ish) size. I can’t seem to get it to just use the image size as is. What could be causing this? Is it a bug, an issue with my install, something else? Any info would be brilliant! Thanks in advance. EDIT: The actual dimensions Emby is using for most of the poster right now is 400x578. It’s never done that before, especially since it’s not the size that these images are in the databases that it’s pulling from.

Hello, I recently moved over my Emby install from Linux Mint over to an OpenSUSE Tumbleweed install. A lot of it went fairly smoothly but playlists are not one of them. There are a lot of my playlists showing up, many have duplicates - about half with the correct photo half with no photo. When I click on any of them playlists, none of them show any files actually in the playlist so it can’t play anything. Moreover, when I go to TV shows or movies to add items into the empty playlists, when I click on add to playlist and it should bring up all the existing playlist options, there is absolutely nothing there. I’ve freshly added one playlist to see how that worked and now that single playlist is the only one showing up as available to add files to. When I visit the playlist library however, it shows I have 254 existing playlists (again, with no files in any of them). Any help would be brilliant. Did I miss moving some data over? Will I have to start fresh on the playlists? If so, is there any way to delete the playlists more quickly? One by one deleting and recreating will take forever with 254 to deal with. Thanks so much in advance!

Can’t grant Emby media (HDD) access permissions (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed)
raevengel posted a topic in Linux
Hi, I’m trying to setup Emby on my Intel NUC. I’m new to OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (though not to Linux) and I’m struggling to get this sorted out. I’ve had Emby running on Mint for sometime now. Goal: to setup & use Emby (Emby software apps is already installed and running) Hurdle: give Emby access to the media files (stored on external HDDs) I have external hard drives formatted as exFAT and NTFS (I’m working on switching them all over to exFAT but not there yet). I currently have my primary username set as the owner of the drives and the group is set to “users” (of which my user was the only member). I used YaST to create a new group called mediaservers and I added Emby, and my user to this group. I thought that way, I could give the Emby access to the media files but not necessarily to any/everything else that my user group could access, if other things were owned by the group “users”. I attempted to change the owner/user group of the HDD partitions to my newly created group, but it’s not working. On one drive, it appeared to work (when I changed it as my own user, not root - I didn’t get any error messages and it appeared to finish the job) but on other drives, I keep getting error messages saying that I don’t have the privileges to change some of the files. When I check the owner/group of those files, it’s showing that it’s owned by my normal user and group - so I don’t understand why I don’t have the privileges to change this or even what’s different about these files because the owner and group appear to be the same as all the other files on the drives. However, even the drive that appeared to work doesn’t actually “save” the new group - it switches right back to the original “Users” group. I even tried to change the group as root. One the drive that appeared to work previously but didn’t “save”, I ended up with the same outcome and got the same error (not enough privileges) on the drive that had that error. Basically, exact same outcome when changing these as root as when changing as my standard user. So, I decided to take a different approach, desperate for something to work and instead of switching everything over to a new group, I added the Emby group to my primary “Users” group that everything already belongs to. I’ve checked ls -l in the terminal to view all the drives and all users/groups/other are correct and all have full rwx status. But, I still have no ability for Emby to even see the media/HDDs. I also used the terminal to look at the groups and see if the Emby group was added to my user group. It was successfully added, as it should have been, but still have no access. I even granted one of the drives network access hoping I might be able to give Emby network access (I know, it’s not elegant or hardly even rational but I’m freaking desperate and nothing that I’ve done that should work, from what I can tell, is actually being successful). On a separate note, I currently have the drives mounted to the default location for external drives in oST/YaST (run/media/user/partition name). I looked into editing /etc/fstab and started by using YaST to do so (as was suggested by some other OpenSUSE users). However, when use YaST to do this, nothing actually changes in the fstab file (I’ve viewed it before/after to check and didn’t leave it opened while doing the edits in YaST to be sure that it was writable). Still no changes. Also, rebooting makes no difference on any of this either. Please know, I’ve searched, I’ve read man pages and blog posts, and wikis etc. I’m just lost & so frustrated. I’m not usually this inept at figuring stuff out. But it’s not even making sense to me now why it’s not working. I’ve added the right groups to the group and the drives are owned by this group that has full access. So, I’m wondering if it’s because of how the disks are are mounted - though admittedly, that doesn’t make much sense either. I’m just desperate. I’ve spent several days on this now and I can’t figure it out. I don’t want to go back to Mint/Ubuntu and the like. But I don’t know why I’m having so many issues and why YaST doesn’t actually seem to be making any of the changes I’m trying to make. It’s the same with the user/group changes. It’s almost like I wasn’t using sudo in YaST but it definitely asked for my password. Please let me know what other info/data you need. Please help. I’m not unwilling to put in the work. I just don’t even know what that work should be at this point since these things that I thought should be successful aren’t. Thanks so much in advance. Sorry for the wall of text. I just wanted to accurately cover what I’ve tried, what I’m attempting to do, and what hasn’t worked. -
Hi everyone! I am using Emby since years now and I am overall very satisfied with it. I recently wanted to step up the game so I purchased a GTX 1650 to do some HW transcoding (I was using software transcoding). So I did that, I followed all the guide I could find on how to install the Nvidia-driver than afterward the docket integration. Because yes my server was on Docker. I could not get it to work, i had a lot of errors in the transcode logs, and under Emby --> Transcode --> Advanced - I had no options there to check. So I found out that HW transcoding on docker was not really supported so I installed the standalone app with dpkg (the last version). What was my suprise when I finished the configuration (I started fresh on a empty folder) that I still had no options for transcoding with my Nvidia card. When I check the hardware detection log, the errors showing there are exactly the same as the one I was getting with the docket instance. The graphic card is working correctly, it displays the terminal when I plug it to my screen (since it's a server, there is no GUI and I am using the onboard VGA by default). So whenever I run nvidia-smi I can see the version of the driver installed, my card is showing there as well and everything seems fine. Here is a summary of what I tried so far : -restarted the server numerous time. -re-installed the drivers numerous times and from multiple sources, so either from the non free depot, from the Nvidia website or from their depot. -re-installed fresh Emby. -used the test docker on the nvidia-smi GitHub, and it was successful, so maybe it can be because the driver and CUDA version installed on my computer are too old for Emby? -verified that the user who is running Emby is part of the video and render group. -tried the beta version of Emby via both the docker and the standalone version, exact same behavior. Thank you in advance for your help everyone! hardware_detection-63728027283.txt nvidia-smi.txt

Hi All, this is my first post, I joined to post a bug, I tried searching but could not find this error, nor in-fact, could I find a reference on how to post bugs, so here it is. EDIT: now I created an account I can now see "How to Report a Problem", odd I could not find this as a normal user. Emby 4.5.0.12 (beta) on an odroid C2, works fantastically streaming full HD direct play to my LG tv, it has replaced my Kodi NUC, bought lifetime premiere, and I have not looked back; except m3u. I add a m3u url for a set of free-legal stations, and it does not work. I tried the exact same m3u url on a separate install on my Mac, and it worked first time, all the channels appeared and could play - latest mac version i could find was 4.4.2. I downgraded the odroid to the same version to check if it was a beta problem, but no, same issue. Sorry if this is the wrong spot! Hi guys, I'm trying to add a series, Chernobyl. Create the folder as follows. TV> Chernobyl 2019. Inside there are the files, example: Chernobyl.S01E01.mkv In the emby I created the type "Serie", I added the path, all right, but when I go to watch, don't download any given goal, the folder is empty, no episode appears. They only appear if I change from "Serie" to "EPISODES: Follow print.

Alright so recently I had a crash because my OS SSD filled up. I run a 60gb SSD (which ive been meaning to upgrade) and I have always had emby store metadata and pictures and such within the media file locations. I also offload the transcoding temp location because at any given day its floating ~15-20gb of usage. I noticed the drive had 16gb of transcoding files for some reason. Reviewing my settings I tried to set my transcoding temp location and it throws the below error: "Emby Server requires write access to this folder. Please ensure write access and try again." I usually run a chmod 777 -R * and a chown emby:emby -R * I have always done this since the olden days of media browser (og user woot woot!) as I've found it prevents any issues with emby downloading metadata and subtitles etc / drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 storage /storage/ drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 . drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4096 Jan 25 15:53 .. drwxrwxrwx 7 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 sda drwxrwxrwx 4 emby emby 4096 Mar 21 13:46 sdb drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdc drwxrwxrwx 6 emby emby 4096 May 23 13:57 sdd drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sde drwxrwxrwx 4 emby emby 4096 Jun 7 2019 sdf drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdg drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdh drwxrwxrwx+ 3 emby emby 4096 May 1 2019 sdi /storage/sda/ drwxrwxrwx 7 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 . drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 .. drwxrwxrwx 1131 emby emby 192512 May 11 07:31 Movies drwxrwxrwx 147 emby emby 12288 Mar 15 18:42 TV drwxrwxrwx 3 emby emby 4096 Apr 19 03:00 backups drwxrwxrwx 2 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 metadata drwxrwxrwx 2 emby emby 6045696 Apr 22 07:24 transcoding-temp It appears that new metadata is not saving to media folders despite the checked options (see screenshot) Also a screenshot of the error has been added. I have my media on NTFS partitions which I access via Ubuntu. I use gnome-disks tool to set mount options on my partitions: I tried the following mount options: rw,x-gvfs-show,permissions,uid=emby,gid=emby and the following path: /media/chriad/additional-storage drwxrwxrwx 1 emby emby 28672 Mär 17 11:36 additional-storage I changed all the rights recursively in all the files in this folder sudo chmod -R ugo+rwX additional-storage/ Emby can still not find that folder. What am I missing? Thanks

I'm having trouble playing certain audio files. *.mp3 and *.flac all work fine, but *.m4a throw a playback error, "No Compatible Streams Found". I enabled debug logging, but nothing comes up related to the files I try to play. I also looked at the directory permissions - Emby is able to read and write to the music directory. Emby is at version 4.4.2.0 and I'm using the official docker image. My core configuration can be found here, and I have an override as well: ############################### # Emby # ############################### emby: volumes: - /mnt/movies1:/mount/movies1:ro - /mnt/movies2:/mount/movies2:ro - /mnt/other2/movies3:/mount/movies3:ro - /mnt/other/series:/mount/tv1:ro - /mnt/other2/tv2:/mount/tv2:ro - /mnt/other/rifftrax:/mount/rifftrax:ro - /mnt/other/music:/mount/music What else can I try?

Duplicate Support for JSON info (Youtube-dl) more properly (Paragraphs,Clickable links,etc..)
CyberPoison posted a topic in Feature Requests
Hi everyone, I have downloaded some videos from youtube but the json appears like something wierd (No paragraphs, no clickable links,no actors(Usually the name of the youtube channel) etc..) I whant to suggest to do something like plex have done to allow users to click on the links in the description and they have some more stuff like appear the actor info (Not sure if you can do that on emby "appear youtube channel as a actor") btw this is some printscreen to show you what i mean. It can be usefull to be able to read it like that (Paragraphs, clickable links, and if possible show the actor name like on plex (But not sure if this is possible) by the way the Paragraphs and Clickable links can be very usefull. This is just a minor update i guess So in emby it looks like that. And i also can report than the date is not correct it show me the years like that (20190513) on years filter. Thanks to take advantage of this feature request. Kind Regards- 1 reply

Thanks in advanced to anyone who can help. I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04 and tried to get an emby server up and running but my remote WAN access address is stuck on http://mydomain:8096 I am trying to get it so that my remote wan access is HTTPS I did import a cert from let's encrypt and selected secure connections required for all remote connections. I have been doing research for hours and am pretty stumped here. Does anyone have any advice? I can access the server locally, when I check if anything is using port 8920 my system says nothing is using it. If I can upload any files to help with debugging this please let me know which ones would help.

Good day together i am very happy about ember and try to set it up on raspbian currently, after it worked fine in windows. my problem is the permissions of the folder structure though. My noticed bug: My folder structure for the movies is /media/pi/Mainstoragedrive/emby/movies/dvd/ If I want to add the folder in Emby. This folder is on my external drive. I can click through to "pi" and then the dropdown menu always closes. It is also not possible to add manually "The path could not be found. Please ensure the path is valid and try again. I am very helpless about rights. Question 1: Do I only have to specify the destination folder with user "emby" or the whole path? Question 2: Which rights/groups are necessary? Question 3: Why is it not possible? My rights look like this. Folder then right. pi drwxr-x---+ 3 root root (what does "+" mean? I can't find anything on the internet Mainstoragedrive drwxr-xr-x 4 pi root emby drwxr-xr-x 6 pi root movies drwxr-xr-x 4 pi pi dvd drw-rw---- 55 pi pi I hope that someone can help me so that I can go to bed smarter. Have a nice weekend.

Hi there , i think about to move from my mac mini to a Intel NUC with Linux. Now i have a few Questions : is there a clean way to backup restore all settings without rebuilding the Library? I think about a 10th Generation i5 NUC will this be a good choice even for transcoding? (Max 2 streams) besides emby is FHEM,iobroker and a TVheadend Server running. Server only - no tv attached which OS would you prefer ? Ubuntu? Debian? Thanks for tipps

Hi I'm watching more livetv these days and emby server become unresponsive maybe once every day or two. It happens only when I watch livetv (chase play), when I'm watching a recording in progress. The client stop with a little message like "stream unavailable" and the server webui is not accessible anymore. To get it back, I need to log on my ubuntu server terminal, stop emby-server service and start it again. From the logs, it looks like ffprobe is throwing errors in a loop. The first Error report is this: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (24): Too many open files I attached a partial logs file. Here the info about the server: Intel nuc i5 8th gen with 8GB ram running ubuntu server 18.04 LTS. Emby server 4.4.2.0 HDHomerun Quatro Client: Nvidia shield with emby beta client. Thank you for your help. embyserver-6372327982228510.txt

Running Debian Stretch (do I need Buster before I upgrade Emby?). How do i update the emby server instance? I've looked all over this forum and in the wiki and I see nothing (except below) that talks about how to upgrade/update. Is it: apt-get install --only-upgrade mediabrowser ?? I read this in another post in the forum. also, any known issues with this upgrade that I should be aware of?

My issue or goal with this post is that i would like at the very least for the show titles to be in Norwegian and ideally also all the other metadata as thetvdb often only have metadata in the original language of the show. Situation: I have a separate library for tv-shows in my native language, The Preferred downloading language, Country and Preferred downloading language for pictures are all set to Norwegian. (under library settings). Yet all shows are displayed with an English title and English show description, And lack the show description. For the purposes of this post i'm referring to this show: https://thetvdb.com/series/the-great-norway-adventure The show title is in both Norwegian and English, The show and episode info are all in Norwegian only. I'm not sure about the pictures. The individual episodes only have descriptions in Norwegian (on the thetvdb) and these are missing on Emby. It apears i'm only getting metadata in english instead of the chosen language. I attempted to set the language for just this show and refresh all metadata (replacing existing) and yet there was no improvement. It does not appear to be an issue for my movie folder set to Norwegian, So i guess this is the tvdb api. Attached are logs for the next 6 minutes after i told Emby to refresh the metadata (replacing metadata). Edit: nvm i found this: https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=60423&p=174944&hilit=norwegian#p174944 I created this post as i found this issue to be on their fixed list, but i guess not. The issue is aparantly still with thetvdb api and is limited to the Norwegian Language.

Hello, I've posted earlier here about a crash issue on emby 4.3 Our server has a 24 core processor and 40 GB of ram. So its a moderate server. We've let some of our local internet user use it as a streaming server but its at max 15-20 users at a time. We were running on emby 4.11 for past few months as 4.2 and 4.3 always crashed. So after the recent update which is 4.4 we thought we might give it a try. Result was same, it crashed but the sad part was we were unable to downgrade back to 4.11 life before. So we thought there might be a file issue. So we gave it a clean install. Removed everything and then installed 4.4. Luckily it survived. We set max trasncoding thread to 15 and stopped hardware acceleration. So it ran smoothly for one day. Today it crashed again. On a note, emby still uses almost 90-95% of our cpu all the time doesnt matter if there's 1 transcode running or 20. Load average was almost 70-80 before we limited thread count. Now its 50-70. So what's the issue here? Can anyone help? heres the latest error report: We saw same type of issue, so we stopped real time monitoring but we dont know what else we can do now.

I seem to have run into a bug recently where the "Last ran XX ago" time is inaccurately reporting 60 minutes since last scan/ran. Instead of starting the timer at 0 minutes and 0 seconds, it jumps up to 60 minutes the moment the scheduled task finishes. This is not a problem for me personally and I have tried to do a full restart of the server in order to fix it, but it is still inaccurately reporting finish time. Hi, After several years using plex, I'm spinning my first emby up. All in all, it's quite interesting. Feels faster. UI's pretty nice, ... Though there is one detail that worries me: in addition to nfo and posters, I suspect emby is modifying my video files. Still using plex for the moment, I would often rsync my media to emby, whenever adding new files, ... Doing so, I did notice, from time to time, that files would be transferred, while they shouldn't be. This morning, while I didn't change a thing since my last sync, I can see one episode (out of 13TB / 1000s of files) being transferred. Which would suggests target no longer matched source. plex:/goinfre/media/Series# rsync -avWxP . --usermap=:emby --groupmap=:video emby:`pwd`/ sending incremental file list Fear the Walking Dead/ Fear the Walking Dead/[05x16] End of the Line.mkv 1,418,620,611 100% 63.62MB/s 0:00:21 (xfr#1, ir-chk=1361/4021) sent 1,419,355,095 bytes received 412 bytes 63,082,466.98 bytes/sec total size is 9,287,400,962,104 speedup is 6,543.39 So far, I couldn't find much interesting in emby-server logs (neither systemd nor /var/lib/emby), the only log mentioning that file tells about executing some ffprobe. The emby management dashboard seems to focus on API events (alerts tells abut plugins, activity about users connecting or playing files, ...), I don't see much regarding background processes like libraries and metadata scanning jobs. Am I missing something? How would you track activities likely to edit media files from your libraries?
