  1. Hello everyone! I'm new to Linux, so please forgive me if I've made a stupid mistake - but I'm having an awful time getting the latest versions of Emby to install on Ubuntu 17.10 Artful. Here is what happened: I had Emby running on 16.04 LTS, and attempted to perform an upgrade, and it went south. I didn't pay much attention to the error, and purged the installation, and started from scratch. That failed as well. I then started with a fresh 17.10 image on the same hardware. I received an error (I'll give details in a bit). I re-installed 16.04, and ran into the same error. Now I'm on different hardware, running into the same error. 1. Download X64 package from emby.media/downloads 2. Launch terminal 3. cd /home/emby/Downloads 3. sudo su 4. dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.3.1.0_amd64.deb Note: Below is actually from when I attempted to install Beta - but the results are the same. (Reading database ... 131063 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to unpack emby-server-deb_3.3.1.2_amd64.deb ... Failed to stop emby-server.service: Unit emby-server.service not loaded. Unpacking emby-server (3.3.1.2) over (3.3.1.0) ... Setting up emby-server (3.3.1.2) ... usermod: user emby is currently used by process 912 dpkg: error processing package emby-server (--install): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 8 Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.26-0ubuntu2) ... Processing triggers for ureadahead (0.100.0-20) ... Errors were encountered while processing: emby-server That's all it gives me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I was just wondering because I have version 3.2.35.0 installed on an older system that is only 32-bit capable and it seems that I am unable to update further. I can understand if there is no longer a 32-bit version, I just wanted to see if I was missing something. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Problem is the metadata manager is showing blank. https://1drv.ms/i/s!AtItXRNac1nKhopn5VBM5idumQ4K1g I tried removing the libraries and readding them. The scan shows complete. I rebooted a few times and still nothing. When you go into the meta data manager it shows blank. Log: https://1drv.ms/t/s!AtItXRNac1nKhopmXTJpmqpBV87EbQ

    Fedora Atomic setup?

Would anyone be so kind as to show/write how to setup an Emby server using Fedora Atomic? I am fixing to upgrade my system to the new AMD Ryzen 5 2400G and plan to transition Fedora Atomic. Fedora Atomic includes the os-tree system along with live updates which is a nice touch. --From Fedora: "Atomic Host from Project Atomic is a lightweight, immutable platform, designed with the sole purpose of running containerized applications." https://getfedora.org/en/atomic/ I want to run my application stack in containers. All pulling from my library data pool. (LVM2 array) My stack is usually, Emby - Sonarr - Sabnzbdplus - Cockpit - Organizr - SFTP server As the AMD Zen architecture has a good memory cryptography solution that seems to eliminate the vulnerability to VMs and containers running on an AMD platform, I figured it would be a good idea to containerize my server's services. Does anyone have a walkthrough or guide for how to accomplish this on Fedora Atomic?

High CPU Usage when idle on 3.0.7200.0

Hi all, Is anyone else experiencing unusually high CPU usage on 3.0.7200? It started on 3.0.71 but has not gone away since. It is extremely high even when nothing is going on, no users accessing the system, no scheduled tasks running, and no hung processes or transcodings found using 'ps aux |grep emby'. Here is a screenshot of htop: As you can see from the log, no activity is being logged. The only entries are me viewing the web interface. Anyone got any ideas? 6. So, I'm running an older low end gateway duel core system as my server. I'm running Debian 9, and don't plan on switching to anything else. While this works for my day to day needs, it can only really transcode one stream at a time. And makes a lot of noise from fans to do so. What I'm trying to get my head around is what hardware Emby can take the best advantage of running under Linux for transcoding multiple streams. I would like to have a system that could transcode 3-4 streams and keep up. My starting point would be a 8 Core processor with 32 GB ram transcoding on a SSD. What processor extensions do I need to look for that Emby can take advantage of? What's the best hardware acceleration to use? AMD better or Intel? Any motherboard hardware that can help? Can Emby take advantage of any GPU processing? If so, what cards are best? Mainly I want to make a big bad Emby streaming monster. But not sure what Emby can best take advantage of. Anyone who knows transcoding better then I do got any opinions? Thanks!

    Login Session won't expire

Hi, Emby-server: docker on Linux, Version 3.2.60.0 Client: Chromium Browser This is sort of weird. I was unable to remove some LiveTV test channel data, so I did the folowing: - stopped server - removed the .emby-server directory - all runntime data - cleared all browser history data incl cookies, shift-reload the emby page - re-start server as per https://hub.docker.com/r/emby/embyserver/ docker run -it --rm -v /usr/local/bin:/target emby/embyserver instl - start the emby-server with: emby-server - as expected I'm asked for a media directory on the host .. entered. - parts of the login page seem to blink, but I'm still forwarded to the home page (???) - if I sign-out, I'm redirected to the server config page. - from the server page I can return to the Home page without login. Unsurprisingly I then start seeing these messages in the log: MediaBrowser.Controller.Net.SecurityException: Access token is invalid or expired. I do not seem to be able to force a fresh login & session ... Adding log extract: 2018-01-07 01:49:26.907 Info HttpServer: HTTP POST http://192.168.43.8:8096/emby/Sessions/Logout. NFS Unable to add

Hi, I have read almost all NFS threads but no one has managed to help me. Do I need to install anything extra on Linux for NFS? I need to make this work until Christmas.
  10. Big user of Emby here, but about 2 months ago I've came across a problem that really screwed me over. I installed Emby via the third party repository (now you get Emby with a .deb file), and after a failed Emby upgrade, Emby's repository messed with my dependencies, deleting core system packages in the process. My system was a Debian server on version 9.1. Luckily I had backups, so I reinstalled, but I did not install Emby because I was scared of losing my dependencies again. Now I'm Emby-less. So devs, can you please consider getting Emby into the official repositories for major distributions? This will make installing Emby a lot less of a hassle and ensure a more stable system. Thank you.

    Intranet Setup Broadcasting?

I apologize if this is not in the correct forum. I also apologize if this is already answered. I have two Linux Mint computers connected via Ethernet cable. A Cisco Linksys E1500 is the router between them. On Linux Mint 17.3 I installed, setup, and am running embyserver. The IP is x.x.x.1 (not the real address.) On the router, I set a Single Port Forwarding named emby as External Port 8096, Internal Port 8096, Protocol Both, IP Address x.x.x.1 (where that is the IP address of the server computer). On Linux Mint 18.3 I installed kodi (from the ppa:team-xbmc/ppa repository) following directions from http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Linux This computer is IP x.x.x.2 (again, not the real address) In the kodi client I installed the EmbyCon add on. In the EmbyCon settings I set the Server Address to x.x.x.1 and the Server Port to 8096. Use HTTPS is off and Verify Certificate is OFF. When I click Detect Server it reports No Servers Detected. User name is set to "john" and the password is left blank. Device name is set to EmbyCon. On the server I added a user named "john" and left the password empty. (Actually I tried with and without passwords etc.) So... help, how do I broadcast from the server so that I can see the files (movies in this case) on the client? thank you
  12. I'm in the process of migrating Emby Server to a linux platform, Trying to figure out how to migrate the userdata over from emby-server for windows to emby-server for centos.

    Error while Library scan

Hello, I have since a few days issues with scanning my library. Prior upgrading to the beta, this happened: After upgrading to the beta, this happens: I checked the folders, the data is available, i can read it, move it, but emby is not able to scan it. EDIT: I should also state, this error happens not immediatly, it happens after maybe 60% Library Scan, its always an random percent number. I add the logs later, as im at work. Greetings cyberplay

    Raspberry Pi Emby Server

Yesterday I was looking at Plex, trying to see if I could set up a server running on my raspberry pi. So I thought I would try it out first on my windows computer. I really liked it but soon realized the free version that I using required me to still pay £3 something to 'activate' it otherwise I could only watch 1 min of video. I started looking for free alternatives to Plex and quickly found Emby, It looked really nice, had a free version that I could actually watch something with and had a Linux server. When I tried this out on my windows computer and watched some videos from my NAS (its an old WD sharespace and I don't think you can run the emby severs straight off that but it would be nice if I could). I then got downloading raspbian and loading it up onto my pi, just a warning I have pretty much no programming or linux knowledge except from setting up XBMC (that I didn't really like) and writing a very simple program in python. I kept getting errors on my pi so i tried arch Linux, more errors, raspbian again, more errors and i think another distribution and even more errors. Even after googling the errors, it never worked. Later that night I gave up and looked into new synololgy NASes that support Emby server and then move my WD greens across but the cheapest ones where about £175 i think. So then this morning i was looking at a small cheap mini pc then have the server and maybe even a proxy server (just for when i go on holiday so i can watch bbc) and i found the Intel compute stick and i could just have it hanging there, not plugged into a tv but there was so ethernet and i defiantly didn't want to use WiFi. I ended up coming back here and looking at the raspberry pi. If anyone can find or make either a simple install method, an installer or even better an ISO with a working linux version on it (im not really expecting that but maybe it would be nice for the emby team to include that on their downloads page for other confused people. Thanks, Max
  17. I have messed with the stable emby, and the two most recent beta releases. My server is running Unraid and im using the official Emby docker. The server specs are Core i7 4790 with 32GB ram with a 5Gb/s network connection, allot of my media is stored on a separate Synology server that has a 2Gb/s network connection. Just as a reference I have Plex running using the exact same configuration and it is lightning fast. So the issue I am having is that 99% of the time I open the Emby web app, Windows 10 App, or iPhone app, it is excruciatingly slow. I'm talking 5-10min just to load the main screen, another 5-10 min to load any libraries as well as the TV Guide. Everything is just incredibly slow, or never loads at all. However some times it loads almost instantly, but this seems to be rare. Actually playing media, LiveTV, Movies, Shows, Music, is fast, no problems there at all, no buffering, no stuttering, and silky smooth. My libraries are tiny in comparison to the amount of movies many other users have on these forums, I talking maybe 100 movies IF THAT. The only plugins I am using are the Cover Art, and Collections plugin, but I was having this issue before installing them too. I have attached the two most recent logs. server-63639216000.txt server-63639262214.txt

    File permissions again

Failure setting up Emby (my first time) I have a hard drive in my 'server' that contains all my media. It is formatted as NTFS. I have it mounted from the fstab. listing of files/directories show as ... -rwxr-xr-x 1 bric bric 110914782 Jun 16 21:11 Finding Dory-trailer.mov drwxr-xr-x 1 bric bric 4096 Jul 30 15:09 Home Video I added emby to the group owning the files on that drive. So the groups command returns: emby: emby bric When I try to add the media library (in the web interface) either with /path/to/mounted/drive/Movies or //192.168.0.10/Movies or //MyServer/Movies I get this error: More info needed? Suggestions about what to try next?
  20. Hello, i run Sabayon linux which is based off of Gentoo linux. I just had to redo my system and i went to redownload the emby server .tar files only to find the manual install option in the downloads section of emby's website is gone. Does anyone know of a alternative location to obtain the server installation files?

    Automatic authentification

Hi everyone! I'm using the Emby Server on Linux with more than 5 users. Iis it normal if I always, at a constant interval, request for authentification. After the user authentification, no activities is done. I seem like a automatic authentification for the client application. If this is normal, is it possible to mask the authentifications from the manager? Thanks you.

Docker on OMV 3 - Library Access

Hi I could do with some help on this as I'm confused. Installed Open Media Vault version 3 on my NAS, then installed the docker plugin and downloaded the Emby image and set up some shares to the media library. Emby starts fine, can scrap the media and the UI is super responsive however it won't play anything - tried via the web app / dlna and xbox one app - which is confusing as I've had all the working before and I believe I've set things up the same way and everything worked fine. Attached the docker and server logs. The server is using MergeFS with all libraries owned by root / user and set to 777, Docker is in Host mode with the /config folder sitting on a SSD again controlled by a OMV Share. I'm controlling the docker image via the OMV plugin UI Not sure what i'm missing. Hope some can shed some light on what I'm doing / have done wrong. Kentish DockerLog.txt EmbyServerLog.txt

    Linux build scripts removed

Hi As I like to learn stuff and build packages of my own I compiled every new version of Emby in a docker container. Since the update to 3.2.19 my script broke. I checked it and found that the folder Linux_Build_Scripts that was in the Tools folder before, is now gone along with MediaBrowser.Mono.Build.sh I looked on the github page a bit and couldn't find any documentation how I should build Emby now. Is there any documentation on how to build/compile Emby from source available? Greetings toneman77

API key changes every time I update

I'm on the beta, and every time I apt-get upgrade the api changes. This is a huge annoyance as I use the Ombi requests system that relys on the api. any idea why this is?
