New Emby init.d script Not Working?

Has anyone tried the init.d script on Ubuntu 14.04 yet? I don't think I have ever gotten one of these init.d scripts to work without modifications, but this new one changed a lot. And from the command prompt I just get and of course PID 3783 will not exist afterwords sudo emby-server start emby-server start/running, process 3783 This is all I get in the syslog Aug 13 13:03:13 CRACKHEADGDK /proc/self/fd/9: DEBUG: EMBYSERVER='/usr/lib/emby-server/emby-server'#012EMBY_BIN='/usr/lib/emby-server/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe'#012EMBY_DATA='/var/lib/emby-server'#012EMBY_PATH='/usr/lib/emby-server'#012EMBY_PIDFILE='/var/run/emby-server.pid'#012EMBY_USER='emby'#012IFS=' #011#012'#012OPTIND='1'#012PATH='/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin'#012PPID='1'#012PS1='# '#012PS2='> '#012PS4='+ '#012PWD='/'#012TERM='linux'#012UPSTART_INSTANCE=''#012UPSTART_JOB='emby-server' Aug 13 13:03:13 CRACKHEADGDK kernel: [ 2690.725826] init: emby-server main process (3719) terminated with status 127 Aug 13 13:03:13 CRACKHEADGDK kernel: [ 2690.725836] init: emby-server main process ended, respawning Aug 13 13:03:13 CRACKHEADGDK kernel: [ 2690.728713] init: emby-server post-stop process (3724) terminated with status 127

Issues installing emby-server due to missing

In the process of installing Emby on Ubuntu Server 14.10, following the process outlined here. I've been able to get the repo setup, although I needed to manually add the proper keys, get the repo cache updated, and install the listed dependencies, but when I go to install the actual emby-server application, it gives me the following: david@plexserver:~$ sudo apt-get install emby-server Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: emby-server : Depends: mono-devel (>= 1.0) but it is not going to be installed Depends: lsb-base (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu7) but 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6 is to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I did some investigating, and tried to manually install both mono-devel and lsb-base. Those outputs are below: david@plexserver:~$ sudo apt-get install lsb-base Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done lsb-base is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. david@plexserver:~$ sudo apt-get install lsb-base Reading package lists... Not sure what exactly could be causing this, but I do have mono previously installed, as I'm using Sonarr for grabbing TV Shows. Has anybody run into something similar? EDIT: Sorry about the weird title. Wasn't paying attention.
  3. Hi, I successfully installed an emby server on my RPi2 with raspbian (jessie) using this guide: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/howto-install-emby-server/6364 Everything seems to work fine. Except one annoying thing... My problem is similar to this post: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24157-webclient-recursive-library-scan-missing-mediainfo/ There's a Media Info section at the bottom of any video page (using the web-app). It only shows me "container" and "path" (as shown in Pic 1). Nothing else... The server can't get any video mediainfos. I never had this issue with the Windows emby server version. Is there something wrong with my libmediainfo? I'm not sure if it's always true, but it should have a streamdetails section at the end of nfo files. This is not the case for me (it was when I used windows). I did the following: mediainfo /path/of/my/video It actually worked and gave me all the stream details. This is really strange. I also tried the advanced refresh from the metadata manager. No success. Is it a problem with permissions or something else? I even tried running the server from login as root (not sure if it was a good idea). I'm using samba (CIFS) for my video shares just for info... I attached two server logs. The first one is when I scanned the library with only one movie (shorter). Just in case it isn't enough, I also included a second one with the full scan of my entire library. Apparently, there is a problem with ffprobe. I have no idea what to do. I'm really new with linux and I need some help. Thank you

No sound in Firefox on Linux

Whatever video I play, using Firefox 41.0.2 on Arch Linux and Emby server 3.0.5780.36522 on Ubuntu 15.10, I have no sound. The video itself seems to play fine, and using Chromium on Linux, or even Firefox on Windows, the audio plays fine too. The issue is just on Firefox on Linux. According of reports of some people I know, they had the same issue using Firefox on Linux. I made sure the audio is not muted both on the system and in the web player, and I have a proper audio file selected.
  5. hi there, not sure if this is the right place to post or if it should have gone to linux or another thread. I run emby Version 3.0.5675.1 on kernel Here my issue: For some files in my library i'm missing the mediainfo of the video file (I do have the metadata, such as episode summary etc. that is not the issue). Normally, when you browse to a video file in the webclient at the bottom you will see the mediainfo. This is not the case for me, for most I do see mediainfo, but for some it shows only "container" and "path". This becomes a problem when you want emby to transcode the file as it requires this info. When I go to the metadata manager and I do a an "advanced refresh" with "add missing data" it does its thing and the missing mediainfo appears and transcoding works as well. This works recursive to one level only it seems, e.g. so if do an advanced refresh on the structure below it works: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is missing] I do an advanced refresh and: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is there] What does not work is and would mean to go through each folder individually (which is too much work): folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] Also not working: folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] or also not working folder1 (e.g. tv show) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -subfolder3 (e.g. episodes in folders) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] So how to get emby to scan and add (missing) mediainfo in a recursive manner for all subfolders and the files therein? I have a scheduled task set to scan my library every 24 hours, but this info is not being added.
  6. I need help with my Ubuntu Emby server. I installed it and it loads up the dashboard. I have set up the paths to my media but they don't show up when I want to view the media. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I am using Ubuntu 14.03 LTS. Optiplex 755 with 4 GB of RAM. 2.4 Ghz C2Quad CPU.
  7. Hi guys, I don't know where to open Troubletickets for Emby, so I will try it in this forum. My Emby installation is running on Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS 64-Bit. For testing purposes I installed the Trailers Plugin, which I wanted to remove later on. I clicked the Uninstall button and the server stated to restart Emby. When I issued "sudo service mediabrowser restart" on the server console and logged back in to the web interface, the Trailers Plugin was still there. How can I remove the Trailers plugin from my installation? Am I missing something? Regards, Bondfreak
  8. Hi there, As title already suggests, whenever I use the kodi emby app on the go via the net the connection on my local server stays open even though I've disconnected a long time ago, the dashboard also correctly mentions that the user in question has disconnected. This turns into a problem because I parse netstat on my server to see if there's activity on certain ports so it can shut down when it's not needed. If I don't restart the emby server the connections stay open indefinitely. I've had a look if the connection stays open when I just use the mobile webfrontend in my browser and there the problem doesn't appear, so I'm pretty sure something goes wrong in the emby for kodi implementation. I'm running Kodi 14.2 on my mobile Emby for Kodi 1.1.13 The server version is 3.0.5675.1 (running on Linux) netstat output: netstat | grep 55009 tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58352 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58350 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58351 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58349 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58269 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58267 ESTABLISHED And another netstat after scrolling around the library a bit, as you can see the connections just keep stacking up without gracefully disconnecting like they do with the webUI. netstat | grep 55009 tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58352 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58699 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58350 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58351 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58595 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58349 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58269 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58597 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58447 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58445 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58596 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58594 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58732 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 xbmc.local:55009 OPENWRT.lan:58267 ESTABLISHED
  9. hi all, in emby as admin user i can add directories to my server to shared via emby, e.g. Folder-Picture /home/user/Pictures/ and every user can access this folder if I set the user to have access to it in emby of course, however let's say in pictures i have 2 subfolders: /home/user/Pictures/Family /home/user/Pictures/Friends so let's say I added another user to emby called "family" now I want "family" to have access to /home/user/Pictures/Family but not to /home/user/Pictures/Friends so i thought let's add /home/user/Pictures/Friends as another share in emby and restrict the access of user "family" to it. However when you do it this way you get the message that there is a duplicate folder and the share /home/user/Pictures/Friends remains empty for any user. The only way to still have this work is to remove the folder /home/user/Pictures/ from the shares and add each sub-directory as a share in emby and then i could restrict its any subfolder accordingly. This is very cumbersome if you have a lot of subdirectories, so why not make it possible to add subdirectories in the emby shares as well?
  10. Hi all, I'm facing this issue: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24157-webclient-recursive-library-scan-missing-mediainfo/ basically I have missing mediainfo for some files, during regular or advanced library scan the missing mediainfo is not added if you have folder within folders (so recursive). If ran on the single, individual file, then it works, but with a 50TB library that is nuts. So would it be possible to add a separate trigger to scan/add missing mediainfo in a recursive scan ?
  11. Hi there, I'm running latest emby on my linux server, everything (more or less) seems to work fine, but my logs show some erros, see below and attachment, what can I do, what is going wrong? thx emby1.log
  12. Hi guys, I'm somewhat new to emby but have been using it for around a month now without any problems whatsoever, it's a wonderful media server, I watch movies/tv shows quite regularly via the web browser app, the desktop app and the android mobile app and have never had a problem until now. My problem is that whenever I attempt to play any file, tv or movie, mp4/mkv/avi or xvid/divx/x264, via the web browser (Latest Firefox/Chrome and even IE) I receive the error "There was an error playing the video." even though it's a file I know for an absolute fact works as I'd already watched it. The android app just hangs... but the unusual thing is, I'm able to watch anything I want via the Desktop app... I get this error on multiple PC's in multiple locations, on all accounts and pretty much every browser I've tried, I myself have updated nothing on my PC nor the Debian server itself, literally nothing has changed and I suddenly receive this error despite the fact I watched a bunch of movies the day previously. I've attached both the server and transcoding emby logs. Everything else about it works, except I can't play any videos on anything besides the desktop app on my PC (win7 ultimate i5 4670 16gb ram) All movies attempted to be played are 720p All tv shows attempted to be played are 480p/720p Mixture of XviD/x264 (8bit) Server Specs: OS: Debian 7 64bit CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 8 cores RAM: 16GB (2x RAM 8192 MB DDR3) VRAM: 16GB HDD: 2x 3TB SATA Enterprise Drives Connection: 1Gbps (I personally always receive 17Mb/s download and it can reach the full 1Gbps) server-63576153895.txt transcode-ff637b72-2314-4cde-a39e-09813d0b0362.txt

    How would i fix subtitles.

So i am running on Version 3.0.5675.1 and one of the issues i have come across is internal subtitles on files not actively registering, on any of my files. Other than one or two exceptions subtitles and alternative audio languages are not appearing as options, regardless of client. As i am using linux and have very little idea how to use folder perms or ACL i naturally assume it is User Error, But i figured i would check here just in case it was not entirely a Linux issue.

    CoverArt ImageMagick unavailable.

So I'm currently running Emby Server Version 3.0.5641.4 via OpenMediaVault (Debian based file server). Everything works fine except for CoverArt. I don't get any formatting or correct covers. In addition, there are no thumbnails in the configuration. When I checked the logs, I found this So I connected to my server via SSH and installed ImageMagick (Apt-Get Install imagemagick -y). The software installed successfully, however CoverArt still doesn't seem to work. I've looked through google, even hitting up the OMV forums and trying their steps, but nothing. Anyone have any ideas? server-63570328058.txt
  15. I am having an issue with Scheduled Tasks in Ubuntu. The version of Emby I am using is 3.0.5607.2 and Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-53-generic x86_64) Whenever I try to add a "trigger" for Scheduled tasks, I get a messages stating "Task not found" and none of my scheduled tasks run according to the schedules that are currently there. For example, "Check for application updates" has default values of "Every 24 Hours" and "On application startup". I have tried to modify these values and add new triggers but they result in either "Task not found" or no message at all but they do not get added. I have done a complete re-install of Emby from the new PPA, wiped my /var/lib/emby/ folder completely and started from scratch but still experiencing the same issues. I have also tried adding the Trakt addon but cannot setup any triggers as well. The values that are there (for example "Check for application updates" and "Every 24 Hours") do not run according the schedule. These tasks do run on application startup however. Any suggestions about how to correct this problem? http://pastebin.com/eByVG8wE
  16. Hi I am running on debian testing 386 build. All fine but I had a disk issue in which I have copied the data to a new drive and mounted it to the same location. The only difference is I switched file systems from NTFS to XFS as this will perform better. The emby server no longer can access the data. In the web browser it displays the mount point but after I select it none of the data is shown. I have verified that the mediabrowser account can access the data by allowing account to logon and changing to the mount. I also have a different XFS file system mounted which is displayed in the browser and can be explored. any ideas? Domenic
  17. Hi guys, I'd really like to upgrade my rather old Kodi HTPC setup by replacing the backend with Mediabrowser. I like the possibility to watch on multiple devices in my home network without keeping media databases in sync. So what I did was installing Mediabrowser on my Ubuntu server (HP N36L) for testing before buying a faster server (for transcoding). I am running into the problem that I cannot playback any content without transcoding being in place. The library is set up using linux local paths ( /media/Storage/movies ). I configured path substitution so that the clients can access the files directly. This is the point where I am not sure why transcoding is still in place. I tried the following configurations for substitution None of these worked for the web client on my Macbook (using Google Chrome), since I still see the bandwidth settings in the top right corner. All the options also didn't work for a Windows 7 client using Firefox. I did not test the following clients yet. Kodi, iPhone, iPad. My server can provide access to the media files via NFS, AFP or SMB. Can anyone help me troubleshoot the setup so I can playback with direct file access? Is it even possible that devices with different OS can playback with direct file access at the same time? Regards, Bondfreak
  18. Hi folks, I'm feeling restless, and kind of want to buy a NUC or something similar to play with. I'd like to have a tiny little PC, and use it to learn more about Linux, beyond some poking around I've done in VirtualBox builds. I've played with straight Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Xubuntu. One of the things I'd do on it is use it as a small EMBY client. Not because I have to, but it would be fun. This would be done via the Kodi client, right? I came close to buying one of the recent crop of Intel NUC variants, but apparently at least some of them don't work well headless... I can see this NUC possibly being decapitated at some point and managed remotely. Then I read up on some of the BRIX and similar boxes... but it didn't seem like the specs were as competitive. So I figured I'd go to the most knowledgeable group of folks I know for some insight. I'd love to hear what small form factor NUC, BRIX, BXI, etc. things you've got, and from a theater perspective what you like and dislike about them, how you've set them up, which Linux variant you like... I don't need a powerful machine, really I'm looking for a playground more than anything. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you've got. Marc
  19. I'm on version 3.0.5557.20000 and am having a problem streaming movies through EMBY connect. Photo casting?

I'm a n00b at Media Browser, so maybe I'm just missing a setting or something, but is it possible to send photos from the (Ubuntu) server, via the Android app, to a Chromecast? Same as I can do with video files. If it can cast photos them I'm sold and will become a life member as I'm fed up with Plex not finding some of my media. Thanks!

    Ubuntu & HTTPS

Hi all, I've been trying to figure out why HTTPS doesn't work on my ubuntu server for the last few days and no luck unfortunately. Does anyone know (devs would be super useful) if this is supported on Linux (Ubuntu) at all? On my windows PC it works fine however on my Ubuntu server (14.04 LTS) and VM (Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS) the connection is dropped almost instantly (I don't even see the page). EDIT: I have firewall turned off Telnet doesn't even seem to work either, everything you see in the terminal. Please see the below screenshots. Thank you! Chrome Firefox Telnet Any help would be greatly appreciated! Otherwise I'm really enjoying MediaBrowser and will likely use it over Plex if this feature works for me! Cheers, Glaive
  22. Hello everybody, I thought it would be nice to provide a ready 'import-n-play' image that would be added to the server downloads for those who loves Linux but still want to stay on their Windows Desktop, so I've installed Media Browser for Ubuntu on Oracle VM open source VirtualBox, most of customization are setup already but you are still able to amend yours to meet your personal needs, like subtitle desired language to download, enable/disable cinema mood and setup local/internet trailers: The setup is as follows: Ubuntu Login: Username: master Password: mediabrowser Network settings: IP address: Subnet: Gateway: DNS:, HDD capacity is: 1.00 TB dynamically allocated storage, so make sure to place the VDI file in a partition with enough space for automatic expansion. You can amend your settings by modifying the file: /etc/network/interfaces Folders Hierarchy: -------- home ----- master ----- mediabrowser_files (that contains all metadata, cache, transcoding, and custom intros files arranged in folders by a descriptive name) ---- cache ---- custom_intros ---- downloads_monitor ---- metadata ---- studio_images ---- transcoding_temp ----- mediabrowser_data (that contains the actual media files, movies, TV Shows, etc arranged in folders by a descriptive name) ---- home.videos ---- kids.movies ---- movies ---- music ---- music.videos ---- photos ---- tv.shows point your browser to: and enjoy your streaming. Linux Client for SteamOS.

There is a lot of talk about a Linux Server using Mono and such. Also need a client. This client should work with SteamOS and available from the Steam Store for exposure. Probably not something that can be done immediately but hopefully in the future. I have no clue what developer resources such a product would require.
  24. Hi, I am new to the Linux environment and still learning but I have to say I love it! One thing I am not sure about is I have setup a computer running Linux. Now i want software that will serve as backup for another windows machine. The thing is i have tried using CloudBacko Backup Software but i just get confused although from what i have read it would be the perfect backup solution. Does anybody know of software i can use and is there a how to guide lol. Please provide links if possible. Thanks
  25. I have followed the suggestions given here, also started with adding one folder only but somehow it seems to be stuck at 56% in the logs I do see some errors but not sure if they relate to the error, put the log here http://paste.ubuntu.com/9147494/ anyone any clues? mb3 Version 3.0.5395.0 installed on ubuntu precise my first post pertaining this topic can be found here: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/13410-xbmc-mysql-library-and-mb3xbmb3c-library-sharing/
