Emby Server / Emby Theater - Option to Download (and Display) Duration/Length Metadata for Media Stubs
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
It would be helpful if Media Stubs that have online metadata would automatically download (or there be an option to make set it as automatic) additional metadata that normally would be derived from the video file, particularly Duration / Length / Runtime of the video (and then of course actually display that metadata in Emby Theater). I realize that the online metadata may not always exactly match the true duration (eg, a special edition DVD with extra scenes not in the official theatrical length), but anything would be more useful than nothing here. If I'm trying to decide on something to watch it is unfortunate to have to go dig up the physical DVD/Blu-ray (or switch to the online service provider, if is something I have on Vudu, iTunes, etc.) in order to find out how long it is (particularly since movies can vary in length from ~1.5 hours to 2.5+ hours). Thanks!- 14 replies

Apparently I am the only one who has mentioned Zorin OS. https://zorinos.com/about/ I have been thinking of perm moving to it if mediasever can be installed and ran from it. Not even sure where to post as it is Linux/Debian but made to be Windows friendly, it is now currently the #6 in branches, in first quarter this year it had half a million downloads for Zorin 12. It has the security of Linux but the features and integration of windows programs and apps. It is to me and looking as if to most others dumping garbage windows and osx OS's the go to and future go to operating system being so familiar with the two in looks but much more secure and tons faster. You can even boot into BIO's and give it a test spin before install. @@Luke has this even been tested yet also do you think compatibility already exist for installation? I did 3 forum searches and only mentions of it are 3 post in my sig

Hello everyone. Having some issues with my Emby Server Version 3.2.16.0. I have a Roku that I push all of my media to and just recently the emby app hasn't been working. I've figured out that every time i can not play something i have to come upstairs because my Emby Server app has stopped running and I have to manually start the process again. I've attached the error log file with this that i got from http://localhost:8096/web/log.html - If anyone needs a ny more logs to have a look at please let me know. Emby Log.txt

After upgrading to the latest version of Emby Server, I noticed that legends, formerly perfect, are displaying garbage characters when the letter is accented. In Brazil letters with accents are very common, so these characters in question mark format are all over the legend.

Does m3u lists really work on Emby Server? I would like to test but I did not even understand which plugin I should use. My pretense is that web clients can access the tv channels from my m3u list. If there is already a topic that discusses this subject, I would like to know, because I did not find it here in the forum.

With the update of Emby Server for the new version, the "My Media" icons have been reduced, even though I use CSS to leave the size I want, it seems that the new version despises the applied CSS code. Is it possible to have the icons in the size I prefer, or will the new version no longer allow this customization?

Multi-Angle / Multi-Video Track MKV Support and Recommendations
funwithmedia posted a topic in General/Windows
As I'm slowing converting some of my library to MKV, I'm encountering multi-angle / multi-video-track DVD's, and I'm wondering how folks tend to handle these, as well as what the current (and likely future) support is in Emby (particularly Emby Theater) for being able to recognize and switch between multiple video tracks (or angles) contained in a single MKV file? I thought I came across a post indicating that Emby does not currently provide a way to switch between multiple angles/video-tracks, but I can't seem to find that post so I may have imagined it. I realize that one option is to just rip 2 versions of the content, one with one angle/track, and the other with the other. The upside is that this route should circumvent any compatibility issues there might be with Emby or other players. The downside of course is potentially a lot of duplicated space (eg, in the case of a movie with just a few alternate scenes). How well does Emby handle multi-angle MKV's? And have any of you created multi-angle MKV's, and if so, what is your process? It appears to me that MakeMKV let's you pick one angle or the other, but it does not appear to me that it gives an option to combine them into a single file containing just the differing portions of each video track (and the ability, in supporting players, to switch between video tracks). I can probably live with going the route of creating multiple complete files, each with a different video track / angle, but figured it is worth checking if there are more efficient, supported ways of going about all this. Thanks!- 18 replies

Hello, maybe (not sure) a problem exists in Cinema Mode. I added a single video in the folder, to serve as an intro and set the Cinema Mode area. Everything worked fine. When adding in the same folder, the second video for the second intro, before the movie or episode starts, the intros are played three times in the sequence; 1, 2, 1. My intro files are ac3.mp4 and h264.mp4 but I would like to use generic names like intro1.mp4 and intro2.mp4, is this possible and so will the intro be played before all the movies and episodes? I would like the intro1 and intro2 to alternate with each play in the collections.

I realized these problems only in my Concerts collection. For some reason, Emby does not obey the alphabetical ordering of all Concerts. He orders a particular group and then, orders the other group in the sequence. Any tips, so that everyone is in alphabetical order? Thank you from now on.

I did a test, changing the user login permission schedules and found that if the user tries to access outside the given times, in fact he will not succeed, however: 1. The displayed screen does not disappear when clicking the button "Done" and for this, just clicking outside the image. 2. Is it possible to use CSS code to edit the text on this screen?

I recently bought a pretty nice Android TV mini-computer. I did so with the intention of running Emby Server on it. I want to build the server here, then I plan on relocating it to a different location once it is completed and functional, along with the USB hard drives that will contain the movie files.. I am struggling to figure out how to do that... I searched the Google Playstore for "Emby Server for Android TV". It showed an app called "Emby for Android TV". I assumed it was exactly what I wanted, so I downloaded and installed the app on my new box. It installed fine, but doesn't appear to be the Emby Server, but rather an Emby client that looks for an Emby Server to connect to. Is there an actual Emby Server for Android TV application out there somewhere? I cannot find it anywhere. I also have a large Windows 10 box running Emby Server. This is my main Media PC for our home. We have 3 TV's, each with their own Kodi box accessing the Emby movie library. The actual movies are located on a NAS. I only mention this primary Emby Server because I don't want its existence to hinder the building out of the new Emby server that I'm trying to establish. Thank you for any help or guidance you can provide me...

Emby Server, Emby Theater, TV Series Metadata - Option to Override Spoiler Settings on a Per-Series Basis
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
As I gradually am getting my library transitioned into Emby one thing that I've noticed is that I have some TV shows where the anti-spoiler feature makes sense because the shows episodes have a lot of continuity. But for other shows continuity is not really an issue and I would normally hop around watching whichever episode interested me at the time (The Simpsons is an example of this kind of show). So I think it could be useful to add an option in the Series Metadata to enable or disable Anti-Spoiler functionality for that Series, and this setting would take precedence over any global setting. So we probably want to make the setting have three states along the lines of: Always Use Anti-Spoiler Features, Never Use Anti-Spoiler Features, and Respect Global Anti-Spoiler Settings (which would be the same as if this item is never set by the user, ie the default). Then folks can configure things whichever way makes sense for their collection. Sony TV has automatically updated to KODI 17. For some reason TV shows are not merging together in my kodi library on this tv although series are appearing merged in emby server and on my other android tv running kodi 16.1. In my TV library on the emby server I have a path directed to files on a mycloud and a local file path on the computer. I have reinstalled emby add on in KODI 17 but no luck. Although I can still access everything, it is annoying that a TV show is showing up twice with different episodes. Any ideas for what to do next? I'm a bit stumped.

Been having trouble lately getting my library scan to complete in a timely fashion. Noticed massive amounts of errors related to the ombd api. Tried going to their website and found they are getting hammered with a DDOS attack and they are aware of the errors (503). Just an FYI if you have been having trouble with library scans related to this.

Emby Server not starting; "side-by-side configuration is incorrect"
Maximus Naxsus posted a topic in General/Windows
What happend? I updated Emby to 3.1.5 (skipped .4). I don't think this has anything to do with the problem I'm having right now. Fiddled around with my PC Restarted my PC (did not yet restart Emby) I noticed Emby did not auto start. Browsed to the AppData folder. A manual start resulted in a popup, screenshot attached. Tried to be smart and download the latest Emby release from the website, assuming it would fix the issue. I did not and Emby started fresh without my configuration. I removed %/System and replaced it with %/System(.old -removed) Same popup. Please help. I'll monitor this post in order to responded quickly. Emby Server & Emby Theater - Display Seperator/Divider for Plot/Overview of Multi-Episode Files
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
Some shows (eg, Phineas and Ferb) can often be comprised of two episodes per "block" (or ~20 minute episode time frame), and in instances where one chooses to keep those as a single file it would be nice if the Multi-Episode support added a little visual divider/marker when outputting the Overview/Plot so that it was more apparent when the plot of one episode ends, and the plot of the subsequent episode (contained in the same file) begins. My proposal is that we just use the same green dot delimiter as is used to separate Genres: <span class="bulletSeparator">•</span> Above from: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/emby-web-defaultskin/blob/gh-pages/item/item.js#L383 It'll be consistent with the overall look/feel, and no knew styles have to be created. I would have done a Pull Request, but I couldn't see anything in the default skin that impacts this -- I suspect that the Plots are combined on the server and then outputted as a single plot. Oh, actually, it just occurred to me that the plot is being stored as a single plot (in the Overview field) because it is a single file (duh!). Looking at the details of an example it does appear that the Plots are separated by a CRLF, but lately Emby Theater has not been displaying those (I thought, though I could be wrong, that in some earlier testing maybe a few weeks ago I had success with those characters being recognized and outputting as space between lines of text). Regardless of how we get there, it would be nice to have a visual separator (whether CRLF, or something else) for these plots. Emby Server and Emby Theater - iTunes Movies and TV Support
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
I have a few handfuls of movies within iTunes Movies. I'm not a big fan of iTunes, but since I have these digital movies I've been exploring how to more easily access them. I recently came across the excellent Retune iTunes Remote software for Android ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.squallydoc.retune&hl=en ), created by SquallyDoc ( http://www.squallydoc.com ). This nifty piece of software is able to connect to my local iTunes library, display a list of my iTunes Movies, and then Play them in iTunes directly from within the app (ie, they do not play on my Android device, rather they play within iTunes on my computer). The fact that this is possible opened my mind to interesting possibilities for Emby integration (if there is enough user interest, of course). I think there would need to be two components to this: Emby Server would need to use the remote functionality (ie, whatever the mechanism is that iTunes provides for apps like Retune to be able to connect to the local iTunes library) to read what Movies (and TV Shows) exist within the users iTunes library. And then there'd need to be a way for the user to designate which Movies and TV Shows to display within Emby. The server would store whatever internal marker/id data is needed to later directly play that item in iTunes. And of course iTunes would need to be installed on the same network as Emby Server (so that it can access ITunes). iTunes is primarily on PC and Mac (and other Apple devices, of course), so Emby Theater should in theory be able to connect to a particular iTunes instance (ie, on the same PC) and then using the already acquired data from Emby Server, launch a given video in that iTunes instance (iTunes would need to already be open for this work, though it may be possible to lauch it via command line). Now, the thing that would make all this even cooler is if support for iTunes Extras (https://www.apple.com/itunes/working-itunes/enhance/extras/ ) could be added. I have reached out to the developer of Retune and he is going to see if that data is made accessible through the remote protocols. Ideally, we'd be able to import the list of iTunes Extras (including some basic metadata), and then launch them directly in iTunes. This is building on what I've mentioned previously ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41937-questions-about-media-stubs/ ). Being able to create custom Media Stubs ( https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Media%20stubs ) would be ideal, but I realize that is probably unlikely. So what I propose instead is a new Media Stub called Online, which could be indicated by ".online" instead of ".disc" (or even ".disconline" would be fine). I think with more and more media moving to an online context (ie, Vudu, iTunes, Disney Movies Anywhere) there is a place for having this kind of Media Stub. Now, would could then provide a relatively easy way that users could define their own online providers via Media Stub be allowing for the following naming convention: ".provider.online". So the user could just use ".online" or they could enter whatever continuous (ie, between ".") string they want to identify a given online provider (eg, "Terminator (1984).vudu.online") and then Emby would parse that and add it to an internal list of online providers. Then, using my other feature request of custom messages for Media Stubs ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44010-emby-theater-external-player-custom-messages-particularly-for-media-stubs-and-tags/ ) Emby could provide a way to pick from the list of any Online Providers using the same UI I described for selecting Tags) when setting up an External Player of type "Media Stubs". Or, we could skip all that and just allow the user to manually enter strings to match of off (eg, ".vudu.online") -- this would basically be allowing Externally Players (in this case to display a custom message, per the other feature request) to be matched by arbitrary filename string patterns. In some ways that might actually be the easiest way to go (ie, the least work). And personally, I could live with that as I could then just create my own naming scheme using the existing Media Stub structure (eg, "Terminator (1984).vudu.online.disc") and match off of that for my custom messages (once the other feature request is implemented). Thanks! Emby Server - Read <lockedfields> Value when Importing Externally Generated NFO Files
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
When one has Emby configured to store data in NFO files adjacent to their associated videos, and you then designate certain metadata fields to be "Locked" a XML field of <lockedfields> is added to the NFO file, containing a "|" delimited list of the metadata fields to be locked from editing. In my prior experiments I found that if I added this field to an existing NFO file (ie, one that Emby has already added data to) then Emby would read the NFO and lock the corresponding fields. I mistakenly thought then that I could add this XML field to my externally generated NFO files as part of my migration from a different media management system (my custom-built one). My hope was that Emby would take in the data from my NFO, and then subsequently lock the appropriate fields from further editing. However, <lockedfields> is being completely ignored on import, resulting in no fields being locked (though the other data, such as Tags, is correctly imported). The following is an example of the NFO file data that I'm generating: <movie><sorttitle>Voice Behind the Mouse</sorttitle><plot>Leonard Maltin interviews Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor, the voice of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They talk about the characteristics of Mickey and Minnie that they see in themselves. They compare how Mickey's voice changed over the years, even within Walt Disney's run of doing the voice. Allwine and Taylor consider how Walt would probably embrace new technologies of today. Allwine does most of the talking, sharing anecdotes and touching on a wide array of other subjects related to Disney animation. Taylor, his real life wife, recalls how she prepared for her Minnie audition. The feature includes some clips of "Runaway Brain", older shorts, "House of Mouse", and even the costumed Mickey Mouse at Disney's parks, as well. It's a great supplement - both very informative and entertaining.</plot><lockedfields>Overview|Tags</lockedfields><tag>Shorts</tag><tag>Disney</tag><tag>Mickey Mouse</tag><tag/></movie> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0408316/ Please pardon the formatting -- it seemed best to present it exactly as I'm generating it from my other program. Emby Server / Emby Theater - Option to Mark an Extra as able to also Appear/Act as Standalone Item
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
I don't know how much demand there might be for this, but thought I'd throw it out there. In my old, custom-built system I had a way that I could indicate that an "extra" (or subitem) could also appear in the main listing as it's own stand-alone item (with all of it's own metadata) (though I would indicate when viewing the details of that item in a stand-alone context that it was connected to it's parent item). The simplicity of how Extras work in Emby has definitely grown on me (it's very handy to just be able to drop stuff in an "extras" folder and have them handled automatically). However, I periodically have Extras that I both would like to appear as Extras for a given Movie, but which also are substantial enough to be present in the main listing of movies (for example, certain documentaries paired with a given movie DVD). It would be great if there were a checkbox to designate a given Extra could also appear independently (such that it would show up with it's own item listing, in addition to appearing as an Extra for it's parent). This is actually partly possible currently by adding an Extra to a Collection -- the Extra will show up in the Collection as a stand-alone item, including being able to browse to it's detail page (though, until we get metadata downloading, etc. for Extras there's not much to see: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43845-emby-server-emby-theater-support-nfo-files-and-automatic-metadata-lookup-for-extras/ ). This method kinda gets at what I'm aiming for, but I think I'd ultimately prefer the full version of what I'm asking for (including the Extra's detail page have an indicator of, and link back to the parent). One question though: Is what I've described as currently being possible with adding an Extra to a Collection a fluke (ie, an accidental feature), or can I count on it continuing to function that way? If I decide to make use of that functionality (eg, there are some items where it might be sufficient for me just to be able to add them to a Collection) I don't want that to then later go away because it was not something that was intended to work that way. Completed Emby Server - "Select All" / "Deselect All" Options with Multiselect on Server Webapp
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
The Mult-Select in the Server web app is super-useful (I'm so grateful to those that introduced me to it!). But given that the Server web app has some excellent filtering functions (eg, in my case I make use of filtering by Tags) it would be very handy to have a "Select All" functionality, so that I can filter down to the results I'm looking for and then easily add them to a Collection (or, when eventually we have Bulk Editing abilities, open a Bulk Edit view on all the Selected items). Somewhat related to the Bulk Edit of Metadata feature request ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/42975-bulk-edit-metadata/ ), I'd love to be able to specify a different Metadata Provider on a per-metadata basis. My desire for this comes from learning of the tradeoffs between the two main providers, OMDB and TMDB, as talked about in this thread ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43818-three-genre-limit/&do=findComment&comment=409723 ), which indicates that OMDB tends to have user-preferred Ratings data, while TMDB tends to provide more Genres (OMDB apparently just provides the first 3). So, it would be nifty if I could set my default Metadata Provider as OMDB, but override that to be TMDB for something Genres (or any other piece of metadata). Then I'd get the best of both worlds. Edit: Wanted to clarify that upon further investigation it seems it isn't clear cut which provider lists more Genres. OMDB seems to cap it a 3, but that doesn't guarantee that other providers will actually have more Genres listed. I still think this Feature Request has merit (as the Genre thing was just an example), but wanted to clarify my misinformation from above. Emby Server & Emby Theater - Support NFO Files and Automatic Metadata Lookup for Extras
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
From what I can tell currently videos within the "extras" folder do not get parsed automatically for online metadata, nor do any associated NFO files (from outside of Emby) get parsed. Following up on this post ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/40262-why-are-dvd-extras-limited-to-a-single-directory/page-2&do=findComment&comment=377431 ) I thought I'd go ahead and make a request here (and reiterate some of what I posted in the above thread). I'd be interested in NFO support for Extras, both support for writing to NFO, but also for reading an pre-existing NFO on import, like is done for regular items and automatically adding any available online metadata. However, given that the way extras are currently presented (ie, such that you don't really see/view much of their details), I can understand why there currently is not much support for additional details (and thus no NFO file support). Edit: Also, images named the same as a given extras video are ignored. It would be nice if these were picked up as well, like they are in non-extras contexts. Edit: An additional clarification: By "automatic" I do not mean that a external lookup should be automatically performed for every file in the Extras directory, as that would likely be a nightmare of mismatches. Rather, I just mean that if there is an NFO file that goes with a video file, and the NFO file contains metadata (such as IMDB ID, etc.) then an automatic lookup using that data should be performed in order to grab the corresponding metadata for that Extra. Hi Guys, Few question i have about the Emby server setup i have searched the forums for and cant find a definitive answer and was wondering if you guys can lead me in the correct path. Does moving the metadata location to folders have a performance hit? the reason i am asking is i copy movies to my hard drive for the shack that has no internet so just need the metadata etc. If so, does it populate actor images as well into each folder, assuming yes you will end up with 200 of the rocks face. on the above two questions does Emby still use the central cache folder in the c:\users\app... as thats on a SSD and assume would make it all run faster if it used that copy. All going well all my collections are setup as e:\tv1 d:\tv2 etc even with follow control of the folders of the local user emby wont write the metadata to them, do they need to be shared as \\tv1 \\tv2 for this function to work. thanks for looking over this Cheers R
