Emby Server & Emby Theater - Support NFO Files and Automatic Metadata Lookup for Extras
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
From what I can tell currently videos within the "extras" folder do not get parsed automatically for online metadata, nor do any associated NFO files (from outside of Emby) get parsed. Following up on this post ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/40262-why-are-dvd-extras-limited-to-a-single-directory/page-2&do=findComment&comment=377431 ) I thought I'd go ahead and make a request here (and reiterate some of what I posted in the above thread). I'd be interested in NFO support for Extras, both support for writing to NFO, but also for reading an pre-existing NFO on import, like is done for regular items and automatically adding any available online metadata. However, given that the way extras are currently presented (ie, such that you don't really see/view much of their details), I can understand why there currently is not much support for additional details (and thus no NFO file support). Edit: Also, images named the same as a given extras video are ignored. It would be nice if these were picked up as well, like they are in non-extras contexts. Edit: An additional clarification: By "automatic" I do not mean that a external lookup should be automatically performed for every file in the Extras directory, as that would likely be a nightmare of mismatches. Rather, I just mean that if there is an NFO file that goes with a video file, and the NFO file contains metadata (such as IMDB ID, etc.) then an automatic lookup using that data should be performed in order to grab the corresponding metadata for that Extra. PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.- 11 replies

Here's the problem I'm having: I have two clients connected to my server. Client 1 is running Emby Theater. I use this client to play media on my TV. Client 2 is running the Emby Web App. I use this client as a remote control. Normally, I can see the Emby Theater client under the list of cast devices from the Web App. However, if the server restarts, after both clients have re-connected, the Emby Theater client no longer appears under the list of cast devices. Even if I restart the Web App client, it doesn't display. The only way to get it back is to close Emby Theater and open it again. This error is reproducible. (I've reproduced it just now using the above steps).

Media Stub Extras No Longer Displaying in Emby Theater
funwithmedia posted a topic in Windows & Xbox
Back around April 1st Media Stubs (eg, "Name.disc") placed in a Movie's Extras folder were being displayed in Emby Theater, but now are no longer showing. If this is an accident then I'd welcome having this functionality restored. Or, if it is by design I'm curious as to why it was removed (eg, was it causing problems with something)? Thanks!- 11 replies

How do I delete the Emby Theater cache so it will rebuild from scratch its cache of metadata images? I searched and couldn't find the answer. ET is not showing some images -- some posters are missing. They show in the server web view, so I think it's a Theater problem. I want to just purge its cache and start over rather than trying to find and fix individual movies / shows. Short of uninstalling ET, I don't know how to purge its cache.

The Creators Update went out to consoles today, as well as an update to the Emby Theater app on Xbox One and Emby Server 3.9.2 beta, and ever since I can't sustain playback within the app on the Xbox. Browsing works normally, and playback starts as expected, but will only last appx. 1 minute. No one attempted playback on the console (I believe) from when I updated Emby Server around 9:30 am until 1:56 pm (after both the console and Xbox app were updated), so I can't be sure that it's not a server issue (though I sincerely doubt it, since other clients - including Emby Theater UWP on a Windows PC - have been connecting/streaming all day without issue). The first title required transcoding, and when it failed I thought it might be a transcoding issue (log attached). The second title was direct play ready, and suffered the same playback failure. Any thoughts? Log - 3.29.17 1424.txt transcode log - 3.29.17 1424.txt

It seems that the Favorites tile pulls images from all items in that library, not just the actual Favorited items. That's a bit confusing, as you can have an image displayed that is not actually a Favorite. Is this perhaps a bug? I'm using Emby Theater for Windows desktop, on Windows 10 x64. Let me know if you need any further details, or if I'm just missing something obvious. Thanks!

Emby Server 3.2.30.0 Emby Theater 2.8.3 I have researched and found articles about emby theater blacking out on NVIDIA cards. I have attempted to try some solutions none work, that I have found. Now let me tell you about the setup I am running, the symptoms, and my thoughts about possible issues. I have multiple machines (windows 10 64bit running emby. The server is obviously running on one. That is not the issue. Machine 1 (with server, Nvidia dual, (SLI) GTX 1080 hybrid (liquid cooled)vid cards, Also gaming machine) not issue Machine 2. windows 10 64bit NVIDIA Titan hybrid (liquid cooled). THIS IS THE PROBLEM MACHINE. Running Emby theater, 3 video outputs, dual DVI, and HDMI to LCD 70" screen. I have also connected via HDMI. Emby Server Dashboard on this machine also, to access the server on the other machine. I am running auto updates and the latest software for theater, and server. PROBLEM. Theater runs fine for about an hour or two on the problem machine, then it blacks out. The blue power button on the display turns yellow, that is telling me there is no display signal on the monitor, then it also states no dsplay signal, also the LCD tv states signal loss. The Hard Drive on the machine continues to get lit, I end up hard restarting the machine, Then it works fine then goes through the same issue again. One thing i did notice I also have emby dashboard installed on the second computer, If i play the movie through that it works fine, It only does it in Emby Theater. They must use different players, because my wireless headphones have player controls on them, The controls work with Emby theater, but do not in the Emby Server mode. In Emby server, only the volume controls work. So obviously, the controls\program is different between theater and server players. That is why I like the Theater option better, my controls work for remote playing. I have restarted, updated, checked for screen saver timeouts (which there maybe some that I did not find, between monitor, windows, NVIDIA etc) I have used Emby for years, love it, but this one has me pulling what little hair i have left out on it. Still, thanks for the great program. Dan

Figured id start a post for anyone that might want to make a new skin for emby theater in the future. These mockups were already posted in the emby theater thread, but figured id start with these and add more in the future. One of the reasons I love Kodi is all the different skins. Would be cool to have that with emby someday, skins to suite everyone's tastes. Id love to make some myself but I cant code for the life of me. So Ill stick to just drawing up some ideas for others. Hello everyone. Starting about a week ago any movie I Direct play on my windows 10 Machine through the Emby Theater Application runs the Ram usage so high that the movie pauses and the computer becomes useless. It only has 4 Gig of Ram, but does Emby really require that? I have tested 1080P no CC, 720P no CC, and 480P no cc. I have also tested all 3 with 5.1 DTS, 5.1 AAC, 5.1 AC3. I have verified that it is Direct Stream and it's not Transcoding anything. The same movies work fine through WMP when access over DLNA. They also work fine on my Android tablet, Roku, and AndroidTv Emby Application. It however does not work with the Emby theater app on the Win 10 Machine, nor my Xbox One. I can attach logs if anybody would like to help. I could not find anything when I went thru them. But any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I purchased lifetime premiere a few months ago and have yet to successfully play back media using the Emby Theater app without the "unlock this feature with an active Emby Premiere subscription" pop up. I do have the gold coin on the front page of the admin page on a web browser and have access to the other Premiere features through the standard web browser. I tried multiple computers, and clean installs of Emby Theater. -On the side note. Every few logins using a typical computer web browser (tried multiple), I get the annoying Emby Premiere ad on my homescreen. I tried to sign into the theater app using Emby Connect, and my Emby user account with no change. Any ideas?

Playback Issue Audio and Video Stutter Every 6-9 Seconds
UnderMiner posted a topic in Windows & Xbox
Hello, When playing back video in Emby Theater or Emby in a browser on Windows 10, the audio drops out and then the video freezes. This pattern repeats every six to nine seconds. It only occurs on recorded TV. The only symptom I observed is that the Task Manager show a large peak in the network traffic on the playback machine and the same infinite peak on the server. This seems to have occurred after the recent update to server version Version 3.2.12.0. I have reverted to using the PC because the XBox playback currently fails in less than 15 seconds. Any recommendations are welcome.- 4 replies

Emby Theater - External Player, Custom Messages, Particularly for Media Stubs and Tags
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
This is somewhat related to the FR (which I'd also like to see implemented) for defining External Players based on Tags ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31386-request-external-playback-based-on-tags/ ). What I'd like to add to that is External Player support for Media Stubs ( https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Media%20stubs ), with the ability to define a custom message to be displayed instead of the default message that is displayed for Media Stubs. (For those not familiar with Media Stubs, they are empty files that mark the existence of offline media, thus they are not "playable" within Emby, so a message is displayed instead.) I'm open to a variety of ways of going about this, but my current thought would be to add a Media Type of "Offline Media (Media Stubs)". And then the Enable For list would be something like this: Disc (no media flag) DVD Media Flag (if the filename contains DVD). Bluray Media Flag (if the filename contains BLURAY, BRRIP, BD25, or BD50). HDDVD Media Flag (if the filename contains HDDVD). TV Media Flag (if the filename contains HDTV, PDTV, or DSR). VHS Media Flag (if the filename contains VHS). I propose that Tag support (which could be added for all media types, not just Media Stubs) be added under Additional Filters, perhaps with a checkbox for Tags which would then open a dialog for selecting from a list of all Tags used within Emby. (Note that this functionality might depend on underlying functionality related to: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/40912-metadata-manager-tags-autocomplete/ ) The Custom Message field should default to whatever Emby normally says for Media Stubs (and probably include a way to restore the default message), to make for easy customizing. The benefit to general users of being able to customize the message is that they can indicate where to go look for the disc (ie, everyone's physical organization is different). For my purposes, I'm wanting Tag support as well (and/or the ability to create custom Media Stubs [ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41937-questions-about-media-stubs/ ], but I'm not sure there is enough demand to warrant that feature) because I want to use Emby to also catalog some of the videos I have in online services such as Vudu, iTunes and Disney Movies Anywhere. I use the .hddvd.disc Media Stub (because I don't actually own any HDDVD's) for my online content, and then I Tag items according to the online provider (eg, Vudu, iTunes, DMA, etc.). Thus with the above feature request, I could have my items which are Tagged as Vudu give the custom message "Lauch Vudu to watch this item." One additional thought is that it might be nice to have a variable for the item Name (ie, {name}) so that we can include the Name of the movie, etc in the custom message. That's not a must-have though. (Edit) Related Feature Request: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44012-emby-server-and-emby-theater-support-for-custom-media-stubs-andor-an-online-media-stubs-andor-filename-string-matching-for-external-player/ Thanks! Emby Theater - Display DVD/Blu-Ray/HDDVD Label for Media Stub Source Flags
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
In Emby Theater if you have a DVD folder rip, Emby Theater displays the label "DVD". Presumably it does similar things for Blu-ray, HDDVD, etc. Since Media Stubs support "source flags," it would be useful/helpful if Emby Theater would display the corresponding label (eg, DVD, Blu-ray, HDDVD, etc.) derived from the source flag (otherwise, what's the point of the source flags?). This both informs the user of what type of disc they're looking for (in the event that one organizes their discs by format), as well as giving some indication of the resolution of the disc (inferred simply by format), which is pertinent for instances where a user also has a given movie available via services like Vudu, perhaps in a higher resolution. Thanks! Hey Guys, I was wondering if someone that knows java script could help me out. I am really just looking for someone that could fork the default skin and either show me what code to delete or do it for me. If need be I would be willing to pay. I love everything about the default skin for emby theater except for one thing. I would just like to remove the black overlay on top of the backdrop on the left side of the screen of the movie detail and collection pages. If need be I would be willing to pay for it. I don't imagine it would be overly complicated to just remove it but I am not an expert in java script. If this is not the appropriate place to post this I will head over the the bounty website. Thanks again guys! https://github.com/MediaBrowser/emby-web-defaultskin

I'm experiencing an odd issue with video playback on Emby Theater for Xbox One. The video plays just fine, however the volume is significantly lower than it should be. Playing the same video using the built-in Media Player App playbacks with "normal" volume. I've tried restarting the app, re-downloading the app, signing in and out of my account, resetting the server, and nothing is able to resolve the issue. I have to turn my speakers up near max to approach appropriate listening levels. Obviously this isn't ideal as the rest of the system sounds are extremely loud at this setting.

Recorded a show using NextPVR and it will not direct play on xbox one
arsacchi posted a topic in Windows & Xbox
Greetings, I have NextPVR set up with my HDHR Connect to schedule and record live TV. The initial recording is a .ts file and for an hour show it was huge like 7-8 GB. Using ffmpeg I re-encoded the .ts file to an mp4 using these options: -c:v libx264 -preset slow -crf 26 -c:a aac. I've used these options before with mkv files and the resulting mp4 is able to be direct played on my xbox one, which is what I thought would happen here. Anyway, heres the problem: I try and play the new mp4 on my xbox one and it says I'm transcoding. (bitrate setting on app is set to auto) Weird. So I do my best to troubleshoot and try to play the same file on emby theater on my win 10 pc where my server lives. Still transcoding. So then I hook up my Dad's roku just to see what would happen and it direct streamed it with no buffering or stopping at all. For some reason the transcoding would not allow it to just play all the way through. So I guess I have two questions: 1) Why does my xbox have to transcode something i know it can direct play since all of my movies are mp4 and direct plays them with no problems. 2) If it can't direct play the file why can't the xbox direct stream it like the roku did which was great quality and no buffering/stopping? Attached are the server, remux, transcode log files, plus the media info for the file at hand. Thanks, server-63621468333.txt ffmpeg-remux-f42d1527-bb15-40a4-b4c3-e638d82bd902.txt ffmpeg-transcode-ab54a10c-5673-4f4d-8c50-e0e3b49e60c8.txt- 4 replies

So here is what im triyng to do: Make external players work for pc games. ROMs already work by just selecting what emulator we want to use for certain kind of files like Dolphin for .wbfs files. Then i was thinking if we couldn't just do the same with pc games using scrips with AutoHotkey, the idea is simple: The script would make the role of the rom here, and the AutoHotkey would be the emulator.. So i made one script with the code: run D:\Games\Resident Evil 4\bin\bio4.exe Then rename it to .gbwin, on Windows i make .gbwin to always open with AutoHotkey so when i double click it, it opens Resident Evil 4 and closes itself all in background you dont see any command on cmd being executed on the screen. Now when i put it on Emby the server finds it ok, it show up on the Emby theater ok, the Play button is available ok, but when i click it nothing happens instead of a loading screen... I think this could really Works, should be a problem with the external players since not even my emulators work anymore on emby, always the endless loading. Its a problem with the external players or to use external players i need emby premiere? Could you guys test this, see if it works? Sorry for my english, BR here! huehue

Add Grouping and Filters for Length/Duration (Emby Theater, Windows Desktop)
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
In addtion to things like Unwatched, Collections, Genres, Years, etc. I would find it nifty if there was a grouping for Length/Duration (Length might make the most sense, but I'm open to other words), perhaps by 15 minute increments? And adding in this sort of thing other places (eg, search filters, etc., whenever those types of things get implemented) would be useful. The use case for this is that I often only have a certain amount of time to watch something, and so I'll search (in my old, custom media setup) via time groupings for what I could watch within the time I have available. So I'm interested in any ways to achieve that easily within Emby Theater. Thanks for considering my request! Idea: VLC Plugin (for easier Resume when using VLC as External Player in Emby Theater)
funwithmedia posted a topic in Plugins
This post (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/35769-resume-is-not-working-with-mpc-hc-in-mbt/) got me thinking about VLC (my preferred player). I've already posted a Feature Request for a manual entry option (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43209-fr-option-for-external-players-to-prompt-for-stop-time/), which the good Emby folks hope to add in the future. But I have an idea for how we could partially automate this via a plugin, for users using VLC in particular. VLC has a HTTP Interface which can enable us to find out Duration (ie, total time of the currently playing item) and Elapsed time (ie, how much has been already played). I will paste an example of the XML output at the bottom of this post. We should be able to easily parse the <time> node to get the Elapsed time, and the <length> node to get the duration (both appear to be in Seconds). And then if that data has been stored in Emby for a given item, we can use the VLC Command Line --start-time=seconds to launch VLC, telling VLC to go to that point in the video. A significant caveat though is that if the user is using VLC to play a full DVD rip VIDEO_TS folder (which I am a big fan of, for the DVD menu support), then --start-time is likely to not produce the desired results (because DVD's vary in how they're authored, and so the time won't get applied to correct portion of the DVD. I think that in most cases it won't actually hurt anything, and perhaps in some cases the desired result will be achieved. But my thinking is that when clicking Play, ET can display some sort of message along the lines of "You stopped your video at ~34 minutes (out of 1 hour and 55 minutes total run time). Emby will attempt to resume at your stopping point, but you may have to manually go to the 34 minute mark (depending on the media format)." And then the user would click "Proceed" and VLC would launch. This way, they know where to fast forward (or jump ahead via chapters) if they're using a format (eg, VIDEO_TS folder rips) that doesn't lend itself to easy resuming. I am also exploring if there is any way to get the DVD "title" currently being played (note, this is not the movie title, but "title" as referring to the section within the DVD structure), but I'm not optimistic about being able to access that. If that is accessible, however, then it would actually be possible to construct a command line to resume the ripped DVD at the correct position, which would be rather nifty. I am a alright programmer (I work mostly with HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS/SCSS, and a little VBA and other assorted Windows-centric languages), but am brand new to Emby. If the above proposed plugin interests folks, is anyone interested in collaborating on bringing this about? I could likely handle any JavaScript-related elements of pulling the data from VLC (via the VLC HTTP Interface) and parsing the XML data, but I don't know anything (yet) about how to get that into the appropriate places within Emby so that Emby is storing the data. As a side note, I figure we'll poll the XML page periodically (eg, every 60 seconds, perhaps?), and I have some additional thoughts on underlying logic for how to do things (eg, we'll want to handle the fact that a VIDEO_TS DVD folder can have multiple "titles"/videos and so be careful we don't overwrite our Elapsed Time when the user is just in the DVD menu or something -- perhaps we'd prompt the user after they exit VLC as to whether they want to update their Resume Position with the new data or keep the old data [which we could display for comparison]?). Thoughts? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes" ?> <root> <fullscreen>false</fullscreen> <aspectratio>default</aspectratio> <audiodelay>0</audiodelay> <apiversion>3</apiversion> I'm using Emby Theater for Windows Desktop (ie, not the Windows App), on Windows 10. Is it possible to customize the Skin, or create a custom Skin? At this stage I'm not wanting to do anything major (ie, I don't want to design a whole new skin), but I would love to be able to customize the display of Tags (ie, display them, and control where they are displayed), and perhaps some other things (eg, I might like to display some custom text based on a item having a certain Media Stub media flag). I did just notice that the Tags are displayed when viewing my library via the server browser interface, so hopefully those are coming in a similar way to ET eventually. I'm open to creating a Pull Request if someone will point me to the appropriate file(s) on GitHub. Thanks!

Hey Guys, I am not sure if this just started happening or maybe I didn't notice it before, but my server seems to be transcoding the audio to stereo on any file that uses the DCA codec when played through emby theater on Xbox. When I check the server dashboard it says that it is direct playing but it shows the little line underneath that usually indicates transcoding. If I load the file into handbrake and recode it to AC3 the surround doesn't transcode. I would Hate to have to go through my entire collection recoding anything that has the DCA codec. Thanks in advance for your help guys...

Hey all, so for some reason Emby (Kodi) isn't direct playing/streaming my blu-ray folders and is transcoding them instead. I've also tried the Windows Emby Theater app, which won't play blu-ray's at all (it just hangs at the spinner after selecting to play for 1 minute), but will play all of my other files. I've attached the ffmpeg log and a section of the server log, however before I attach the full server/kodi logs, is there anything I need to censor? I'm seeing api keys for the websocket, my remote address, etc... 2016-12-01 13:13:23.2336 Info Main: Emby Command line: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe -programdata /var/lib/emby-server -ffmpeg /usr/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /usr/bin/ffprobe -restartpath /usr/lib/emby-server/restart.sh Operating system: Unix 3.16.0.4 Processor count: 4 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True Program data path: /var/lib/emby-server Mono: 4.6.2 (Stable 4.6.2.7/08fd525 Mon Nov 28 20:21:32 UTC 2016) Application Path: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe 2016-12-01 13:13:23.6228 Info App: Application version: 3.0.8500.0 ... 2016-12-01 13:14:07.6677 Debug App: Starting transcoding because currentTranscodingIndex=null 2016-12-01 13:14:07.7138 Info App: /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i file:"/media/movies/Blu-ray/Batman Begins (2005)/BDMV/STREAM/00000.m2ts" -map_metadata -1 -threads 0 -map 0:0 -map 0:2 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset superfast -crf 23 -tune zerolatency -b:v 22651421 -maxrate 22651421 -bufsize 45302842 -vsync -1 -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*3)" -flags -global_header -copyts -codec:a:0 ac3 -ac 6 -ab 384000 -af "adelay=1,aresample=async=1" -max_delay 5000000 -avoid_negative_ts disabled -start_at_zero -hls_time 3 -start_number 0 -hls_list_size 0 -y "/var/lib/emby-server/transcoding-temp/0c9eb6747e297090e06b16b942d4f3c4.m3u8" 2016-12-01 13:14:10.0408 Info App: returning /var/lib/emby-server/transcoding-temp/0c9eb6747e297090e06b16b942d4f3c40.ts ffmpeg-transcode-4d668284-f2cd-4f7d-a3b0-d0d953c8d308.txt
