I'm having some problem with 4K HDR content for a while now. Whenever I try to play 4K HDR content on my nVidia Shield, it rarely detects HDR and gives me washed out colors most of the time. For a while I thought HDR was broken altogether, but it appears that on rare occasions HDR decides to kick in on playback. I can't find a constant factor. I've fiddled around with the settings and tried multiple video files, but the issue seems completely random. It's not a problem with the TV itself; it plays HDR blurays just fine.

Hello all, I know there is at least two topics on this theme but I'm becoming frustrated with HDR support in Emby for Shield TV. There is only few titles that can trigger HDR on LG OLED TV. I have try all combinations of frame rate settings and switching but no luck. When playing such content all colors are "wash out" and frankly picture looks just terrible. I have even switched to the latest beta version but issue apparently is not tackled. Think that ExoPlayer is one to blame, since all titles in laibrary played from KODI or MX Player trigger HDR mode! I just hate to use external player or other apps then native client and hope that solution is comming soon.

Scale subtitle stream to target dimension instead of the original dimension
alyssa0326rr posted a topic in Feature Requests
I met a situation that my server can transcode 4K HEVC video to 1080P smoothly (40~80fps) , but cannot when subtitle enabled (15fps) After the investigation, I found the difference of ffmpeg commond is the filters. The original filter is -filter_complex '[0:8]scale=3840:1604:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease;[0:0]overlay,scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,1920)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2' I tried to learn what does this mean, then figured out that the subtitle steam first converted to a 4K size steam and overlay with the original, finally converted to 1080P, Then I tried to change this filter to -filter_complex '[0:8]scale=1920:802:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease;[0:0]scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,1920)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2;overlay' that first convert the original video and subtitle to 1080P, and overlay them together rerun the command, and it works, fps is around 37. I checked the output ts files, they contains the subtitle I want. Do you think this is possible to do? Thanks.- 38 replies

Hi emby Team, I testet as lot and want to describe a problem in detail that really keeps me away from using the emby app of my LG65OLED C7D. I already know that the emby app encodes all audio tracks that are not the first/default audiotrack of a mkv. But... emby also encodes the first/default audiotrack if this is Dolby TrueHD/Atmos. Why? and that leads to the/my problem: everytime the emby app starts a ffmpeg process to transcode a audio track (for the none default audio track or and thats a much bigger problem... for Dolby TrueHD Tracks) the video begins to stutter... plays for a few seconds than stocks for a few seconds and so on - til the end of the movie :-( ) because many of the 4K remuxes have a Dolby TrueHD/Atmos default track, they are unwatchable via the emby app. 1. the problem is reproducable everytime 2. the problem only exists with 4K material (UHD Remuxes) 3. it's not a problem of hardware limitation of the emby server (CPU is 70% idle, gigabit LAN, HDD...) 4. it doesn't matter what kind of audio is being encoded (Atmos, DTS, DD5.1, DTSMA, DTSHD...) 5. emby dlna plays fine those files because it's playing the files without encoding the audio summarized: audio encoding on 4k remuxes in any way leads to video stuttering! possible solutions: - stop encoding audio tracks other than the default (like DLNA does) or - make TrueHD tracks playable without transcoding (direct play/passthrough) or - fix the problem that causes the video stuttering when transcoding audio in 4K movies any questions? don't hesitate to contact me ;-)

Refresh rate switching also changes resolution (4K -> 1080p)
Pantalaimon posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
I have a problem playing 4K content on my nVidia Shield / LG tv The Shield and Emby app run in 4K resolution. I have 'Enable refresh rate switching' and 'Prefer exact refresh rate' both enabled in Emby. Whenever I play 4K content, the refresh rate is changed as expected, but the resolution is changed from 2016p to 1080p. There is a 4K display mode available at the same refresh rate. When I turn off 'Enable refresh rate switching', the content is displayed at 4K resolution, however the video becomes kind of choppy. When I turn it back on, the video is smooth as butter, but the resolution goes back to 1080p. The 'Prefer exact refresh rate' option is irrelevant here. I've tried to change the resolution back to 4K at playtime in the display mode menu, but that seems to break HDR. Anything I can do to have both smooth video AND 4k resolution?- 17 replies

Just a little feedback on my initial experiments with 4K playback using the Emby LG app. I'm finding some 4K content works and some doesn't. 'Sully' 4K for instance will not play on the Emby LG App. It will play on the LG Plex app. Same results for 'Jigsaw' and 'It'. I'm playing UHD rips from my 4K blu-rays made using makemkv. That being said, where files do play I am noticing quality degradation. 'Argo' for instance streamed via the LG app looks terrible (however the server does say it's direct playing). 'Argo' streamed via DNLA to my UHD blu-ray player looks far, far better and as per the disc. So as it stands, if I want to watch 4K rips using Emby, the LG app is not up to the job. This may in part also be due to the TV itself. DNLA to the TV also results in reduced quality (however all files do manage to at least play, same as Plex). There could also be bandwidth issues involved. The LG TV does not have a gigabit LAN port. To sum up, the only way for me to get the true 4K (exactly as per the disc) is to stream using my phone or iPad via DNLA to my Oppo UDP203 and then HDMI into the TV. TL:DN Emby LG app plays some 4K (albeit in reduced quality. Plex LG app plays all 4K (albeit in reduced quality).

Hello, i am having problems streaming 4K content from my HP Gen8 server to my Samsung 4K TV (UE55HU8500). TV and server are both connect to my router by network cables. The format of the 4K content is HEVC, whenever i try to stream from my TV i get an error "No compatible streams currently available". I have attached the server logs, please can you advise what the issue could be? Server Log.txt ffmpeg.txt

Log.txtI just recently ripped the film Lucy in 4K with TrueHD 7.1 sound. I'm playing it through my Samsung TV--app installed on the TV. The film plays but stops with the blue circle spinning as if trying to buffer. I pause the film, wait for a few minutes, then it runs for some time without pausing, only to pause again. I think it has something to do with the transcoding... not sure. I went to my server and my CPU was maxed out with the FFmpeg using the majority of my CPU. I've attached the log to review. Any ideas how to fix?

So, i want to buy the premium subsricption but first of course i test the Emby Theatre on my Xbox One X. And it is working execpt one function. There is no 4k HEVC direct play and of course because of that there is no HDR. I don't know what's wrong but my server Transcoding any 4K HEVC file because : The Video resolution is not supported. But why? Can anyone help me please? I attached my log files. Thanks. LOG1.txt LOG2.txt LOG3.txt LOG4.txt

I now have my a UHD video (from the one UHD 4K disc I own) and also the HD version. Impressively, Emby Theater on Windows 10 plays the UHD video pretty well. Audio and Video in my brief check played without stuttering or losing sync. That's cool and unexpected for me. But I noticed on a scene with large white region (the Hockey rink in Deadpool, about 1:02:00 (hh:mm:ss) in) there was large macro-blocking visible. It's not there in the HD version, so it's from the on-the-fly conversion of 4K down to HD. What, if anything, can I tweak in Emby Theater or Server to get better playback of 4K material on my 2K system? It would be a bonus if I could start collecting 4K media and only have to keep the 4K file saved, trusting Emby to play it perfectly on my HD system. That might be not practical, but it's worth a check. My Emby Server (and playback PC) is a 6th Gen Core i5-6500 with Intel HD Graphics 530 (integrated graphics). Thanks for any insights into how UHD is played back at HD from Emby and tips to improve that performance!

Is there a way to search your library for only 4K videos? Is there a way to create a collection of only hi-def videos? I would prefer not to go through and rename every video that I have in my library to something with -4K in the title, so I'm wondering what's the preferred way to search/sort/display high-def video files and make them stand out as compared to the standard-def videos that I have. If I could suggest a feature, it would be to either add more capability to the current search so you can search for attributes of videos in your library (metadata search), and/or sort the library by resolution. If these capabilities exist, please explain how I use them, because it's not that clear how I can find my higher resolution videos.

I have Emby for Android TV installed on a Sony kd-65xd7505 smart TV. On Windows 10 I have installed Emby Server 3..2.26.0 My movies are on a NAS and all devices are in the same gigabit network. When I start the app on my TV and select a 4K movie, playing starts but stops after a few seconds. Then, some 6 seconds later, the movie continues to play for about 10-15 seconds and stops again. This goes on for as long as I keep watching. HD movies play without any issue, it looks like the app is buffering all the time although the network speed is good. When I transfer a movie from my PC to the NAS, transferring rate is more or less 50 MB/s. I hope anyone has a solution to correct this strange behavior. Thanks in advance, Hans

I picked up a new Samsung UN58MU6100FXZA TV today to finally enter the 4k era. I have a few 4k films to test with which report being 3840x2160. This TV is my first and currently only 4K screen. I was able to play some Netflix shows through my FireTV and when I hit Info on the TV remote it shows the resolution as 4k so I'm assuming my HDMI cable is good. However, when I try to playback the 4k films I have on the server through Emby the TV Info only shows as 1920x1080p. Emby is not currently available through the Samsung App Store so I can't try it directly on the TV. So I'm wondering if I have something misconfigured somewhere or if there is just something not reporting properly. *Updated Title

Hello, I am running Emby Apps on all kind of devices like Android, MacOS, Nvidia Shield (Android TV) and now purchased the new Xiaomi Mi Box 4k to watch Live TV and sometimes Movies. I have a stuttering Video during Live TV playback, only on this Android TV device as all other devices work well. Changed all kind of settings like resolution, transcoding framerates etc... no luck!? I am a bit confused as Xiaomi claims this box as superior device and the price is just fine. Does anyone else have similar issues with the Xiaomi device(s)?? Any tips or hints???

So, I'd like a little help with diag'ing this. I have Iron Fist (nevermind the reviews, I'm testing stuff) and when I go to play it on my Roku Ultra, it stops/stutters, is generally horrible. I'm running the current emby-beta on debian available via apt-get (which is 1 release behind stable right now I think), and the emby beta roku channel. It's in an LXC, 4 cores, 8G memory, and cpu usage only hits about 80% at most. If I try the same thing in chrome on my linux laptop, it won't play at all. But it plays ok if I copy the file and play directly in vlc. The Roku is connected by wifi, and should be getting at least 50m thru - my phone gets that according to the unifi controller tests. I'm at work, so don't have the logs & such, but I'll try to dig them up this evening. Anyone have any thoughts?

4K Video will Stream on mobile device but not on browser
Spork Hero posted a topic in General/Windows
Hello all! I recently started watching 4k video content, however, it will only stream on my mobile devices for some reason. My server has 2 GTX 980ti's in SLI, a 6850k and 32Gigs of RAM. My laptop that I am streaming to has a GTX 980M a 6820HK, 32Gigs of RAM and a 4k display. For some reason, on Chrome and Firefox, the video pauses every few seconds during streaming, it is connected about 10 feet from the router using a 5Ghz ac connection, my server is hard wired into the router. The odd thing is that my phone and tablet stream the video just fine at the same 4k 120 Mbits per second, is there anything I can do? -
Hi there, I've got a problem with playing videos on my fire TV Box (see title). That happens if I play the video through the emby App or if I use the Kodi-Emby plugin. Both are at latest versions. In this case I tried to play "The finest hours" starting at 09:10 o'clock and ends at 09:12 o'clock. I also sent a report through the Emy-app-Debug function at 09:12 (or 09:13) o'clock with the user "Norman" I also see very often server errors in the log but don'T understand where they come from. Yesterday evening I tried to play a video through my BD-Player and TV (Oppo 103 and Sony Bravia TV) and that video crashed every 10-15 min. I don't know if there is a relation. Eihter way the FireTV Box should be my primary device, so that issue is most important. Maybe someone could help me understanding the logs. THX 2017_02_23_09_13_Emby_Server_Log.txt

Hi Quick question as 4k movies/Blu-ray are starting to appear how do you name 4k movies when you have multiple copies of a movie? for HD it "Movie Name - 1080p.mkv" would 4k be "moviename - 4k.mkv" or "4k2k.mkv" or .... does emby recognise 4k as it does 720p/1080p etc in this situation? Thanks PS you cant search for "4k" on the forum as its less than three characters so if its been asked before i have missed it

The CoverArt plugin rocks but with 4K/UHD becoming a bit more common it would be nice to see the addition of a 4K or UHD banner. Also for those of us who are picky a HD-DVD banner would be nice to seperate BLU-RAY and HD-DVD rips out visually. Any chance of these in an upcoming version.

The new Dish Network Hopper H3 only seems to support mkv for direct play. I think it will also be this way on the Hopper With Sling once it gets the new Carbon UI. I have created a new profile that is working and plays all videos. Most of my movies were mp4 and are now transcoded but at least they are playing. Also, the new identifier/User-Agent is ZiP. Not sure if there is anything that can be tweaked, but thought I'd share to at least get it started. EDIT: Since the Hopper 3 was updated to version 308, the standard Dish Hopper profile works with adding the User-Agent:ZiP You should be able to add this to the system profile so we do not need a custom one anymore. I have left the other profile, Dish Hopper_HWS_CUI.xml for those that are still on the Hopper W/Sling and Carbon UI. Dish has not been updated yet and will still need the custom profile. http://www.wired.com/2015/03/nvidias-new-shield-superpowered-set-top-box-4k-era/ This looks very promising. If we could get MediaBrowser for Android ported onto this, it could be an awesome gaming console / HTPC. Let's hope the device can be sideloaded or support other Android apps natively. Looks like it already has Plex pre-loaded according to Nvidia's webpage. http://shield.nvidia.com/console

I was wondering if we could get a cover art for Remastered in 4K. Would love to know which ones are in that format.
