Ahh sorry, I meant windowed - I use "always on top" for Windows Media Player while working with documents\coding etc - quite handy not worrying about overlapping the player while moving. Do you have a features request threat for the theater player? Making the desktop mode re-sizeable while playing would be great, in addition to utilising the windows snap assist feature. (That's about all I miss from WMP).

I recently set up GameBrowser III on my server and noticed the metadata that is collected when auto-scanned is nearly completely missing. I've noticed several posts on the forums where people complain that a large majority of their titles are not found. Another thing I've noticed is that for me, the initial scan couldn't find any of my sample NES roms that I put in the proper directories, even very obvious/popular ones like Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3 and The Legend of Zelda. However, if I manually went into each title and clicked the "Identify" button, I could then make a selection and the complete metadata and graphics would download immediately. However, who wants to do that for every individual game (not me)? So I've been trying to do some research and I used another popular title (Rad Racer) as a test subject... On initial scan all you see collected is a screenshot and disc image of the game: In the Emby web UI you see no cover or metadata: I checked the server logs and found only a few lines mentioning "Rad Racer". Why is this? Is it just to let you know that the game.xml wasn't found since it's a brand new game in the directory/database? So I checked TheGamesDB.net API search results to see what it returned and I noticed "Rad Racer" isn't even on the list: I tried to use the "Identify" feature in Emby, but as expected, I got the same results as the API response: I then went directly to the general TGDB website and searched there and I also don't see "Rad Racer" in the search results: However, if you hit enter on the search field, you're suddenly displayed the details page of Rad Racer: http://thegamesdb.net/search/?string=rad+racer&function=Search So I think the reason Emby can't identify the majority of people's ROM titles is because TGDB website/API is buggy. I did some research and there seems to be a better Website+API that has even more titles and the results seem accurate. It's Giant Bomb (www.giantbomb.com) and they also have an API available: http://www.giantbomb.com/api/ - they mention on the page that they have a restriction of 200 requests per hour, but when I signed up for a API key, it is labeled with "no rate limits". This might be worth implementing to get better results. Hi there, For a while I had issues with Live TV not working first thing in the morning but then starting again later in the day. This went away and it has been very reliable until one or two releases ago when this issue returned. Originally to resolve the issue I stopped using the 64bit build on QNAP and began just using the 32bit one. This seemed to make it stable. I do not use the Emby through the store on QNAP I follow the community thread and download the latest releases as they are delivered, normally within a few days of an actual release announcement. This morning this happened again and I resolved to try and check it out after work. Of course when I did all was fine again and it was working. I accessed the HDHomerun that provides the channels to check it out and found some new channels that I decided to test. This was going okay until one of the new channels disagreed with Emby. All stopped and I had to abort the Win 10 Emby theatre app to get control back. Subsequently however the LiveTV function is not working. The work around is go into EMby and shut it down. Go into QNAP and close it. Restart Emby in Qnap. Just did this (noticed I had 3.0.6400 and 3.0.7100 is now available which it wasn't when I did the last upgrade) Did that and bingo working again. I've now damaged my own experiment by upgrading so I won't press for help but I will ask what are considered to be the best steps I can take to troubleshoot this? Should I snap daily logs or is there something else that would help if this update does not resolve.

Watching netflix in Apple TV this weekend at my inlaws place, I notice that while starting a tv show session, ten seconds before the end of an episode, a panel will "snap" (sorry Xbox one lingo, not sure how else to describe it) to the side of the screen with a count down to the next episode. It also has a thumb image, a description, and episode meta. This is all happening while the last ten seconds of the episode is happening in the other side of the screen. This is a cool feature. I think emby theatre could even take it a step further and add the ability stop the playlist (a button or something). Might be worth considering, definitely would add something To the theatre experience. I doubt some of our competitors do that. Ben

Word.. Snap... W. T. F. ? Where exactly do you get the JSON error? Those prevent the app from crashing. Does the app stop working when that shows? I never made it easy to tell which area each json error dialog comes from either. Not to self for next time (make unique numbers for each error so can tell which parts of the app they occur in). You may see an error retrieving next up json when navigate to tv-series. This only prevents the app from "jumping" to the right season/episode. It should still go to the series. Which roku model is it? Is the firmware updated to 7.2.x? Might need you to debug, as you already suggested you might have to. Since you wrote the guide to do this on nowTV I think you are most qualified. Apologies for the interruption... ...Also... If you reboot the emby server, then scan library... wait until its about 25%... now try the app and it should work much more quickly. Maybe it is timeouts occuring. These will report as json errors too, not as timeouts.

Yeah, it's really a lot less difficult than folks are suggesting. Naming special features is a time sink. Converting VOBs to MKVs is a snap.

No offense but I would not really call that much of a step by step guide, for a novice to Ubuntu and Emby. Anything with greater detail, maybe some screen snap shots, that does not makes assumptions on steps would be much appreciated. I keep running into install errors which I think are dealing with permission issues. Would also be willing to donate.

Well, we're already using a similar tool, which is the openSuse build service, which helps us quickly build packages for lots of linux distros, including Ubuntu. Snap does look nice though.

I've been thinking more about this and exploring different NAS options. I won't need to do anything for a couple of years since my FreeNAS box has at least a few years before I need to worry about any of the drives (hopefully) and I have everything backed up on externals as well as RAID 5. I know plenty of folks rave about the Shield, so I bought one; but I think the Fire TV is close to it in functionality (the Shield is clearly more powerful and live TV plays better with the HDHR grey app on it than on the Fire TV). I think the more critical issue is content. I'm not as happy with the content available for the Shield as with the Fire TV. If the next gen Fire TV becomes as powerful as the Shield TV is currently (hoping), would it be possible to wrap the Emby server into the Fire TV? Or is it powerful enough now to function? Clearly the Fire TV would need to change its software along the lines of the next Shield update to function as a media server, but perhaps they will try to keep up? I actually would be interested in that scenario with a low powered NAS attached to one of my Fire TVs to function as a media server. Or Emby on the current Shield working as media server? I didn't like Plex and doen't want to use it again. ETA: Although, snap, just remembered last time I looked everything I have directly played on the fire TV with no transcoding. So it would be just as easy to put the Emby server on a QNAP with two 8 TB hard drives and it would serve the same purpose. So, never mind.

Thanks for the reply I have tried that, I can't get the resize cursor to show when I hover over any of the edges of the window. I can't drag it to the edge of the monitor screen to make it snap either.

I guess this is why these things are so hard; everyone has their own rating method when you have so many choices. In my case, untagged is something I just havent got around to listening to (or maybe I didnt want to snap judge it!) How would this scenario be handled in the above? Funnily enough, as I wrote the above I did question myself slightly; for example I'm not sure the wife rates Dead Kennedy songs quite as highly as I do as per the DJ angle, and hence I suppose I should ask the question are ratings help per user in Emby? I'll be honest though - I still prefer the 0-5 stars, particularly coupled with auto playlists from the star ratings or per genre.

This was only one example. I've had this with other episodes aswell actually.. It's something I can learn to live with, but it's slightly annoying. Especially when I want to watch 5 - 10 minutes of an episode on the tram omw to work etc EDIT: It came to my mind that my old D-Link router has some hiccups every now and then. It has only fast ethernet connection, and my guess is that maybe the server does not snap up my marks because of my router.. I'm gonna buy a new one.. On the other hand I didn't have this problem with Plex. Hard to know where the problem lies

Performance is certainly an issue. We're pushing the systems caperbilities with this. The menu could snap open instead of sliding but that would be a shame. I already made it a bit thinner so it has less distance to travel.

First, here's the post I was talking about. I must have misunderstood what "local" meant: About my problem: I used to have all my metadata locked, but I went through and changed a large number of them by unlocking Genres. Some of them are still locked and I'm not looking at any of those to see if this worked. There are so many it will be a while before I get Genres unlocked on all of them. Here's some of the things I mapped. After this I expected I wouldn't ever see Action or Adventure as a genre, just Action & Adventure. Similarly I don't want to see Film-Noir, just Film Noir, etc. As an example, here is my entry for Casablanca. I expected it would no longer show the genre Classic B&W any more, since that was mapped to Classics, and although you can't see it in the above screen snap, the genre War was mapped to Period & Historical. The Classic B&W and War genres are still showing in this film. Classics was manually selected; I don't think GenreCleaner did that. There's also no Period & Historical. As for the log, there's a ton of logs and I couldn't tell you which one was right after I did this. Would it help if I uninstalled and re-installed, then did the mapping and got the most recent log?

snap! My main goal was to integrate with Kodi. I am running openelec 5.08 (raspberry Pi2) Kodi 14.2 and obviously the NAS has all the media and mysql to sync all the players. I read that people were integrating the Kodi and Emby databases which is what I hoping for so I could view all my library from either Kodi or Emby (local network or remotely). There are other options I may pursue. How are you finding the transcoding on the NAS?

Dear Community I'm starting to get a little frustrated with Emby now with minor stuff, don't get me wrong I love what it can do, maybe I just haven't read up on my home work well enough. But my issue is backing a server up. Yesterday I started to pay the premium because of the backup solution. Which I need since I'm running the server on my PC but want it to run on my main NUC. It says here : Backup and restore your server configuration with ease, or migrate to a new environment in a snap. OK super that's something even a new user can understand (which I am btw ). I then dig further. And find out that you need to install a plugin. Fine I do this as well, Server Configuration Backup is installed. I go in to set it up, which needs a backup destination path and the users and user data is not marked. Well I mark those as well and then I ran it. 1 sec was the time it took to run it. Uhhm OK that was fast. So I go check my destination backup folder and its just barely a MB in size. So I try to restore it to my NUC. Which "went fine". The only thing I see that has been transferred is the "watched" status, or at least the only thing I could see. So my issues is now, how do I backup the view, the folders that I have tweaked, the folders I have renamed. Which is something I have worked quite some on because it doesn't sort "The" and "A" if its the start of a movie/series title. My main concern here is that if my system dies, how will I then back it up and restore it instead of having to work 5+ hours on my movies And my main question is, how can I back my PC server settings, view, own folder posters that I have chosen, the sort name I have entered etc etc which wasn't backed up. I even looked into this guide. Which didn't work for me! tl:dr how the frak do i back up everything completely

I had something very strange happen last night. I had an old laptop laying around and thought I would install Windows 10 on it to check out it's features. This was installed from a Microsoft Windows 10 USB installation Drive. After the installation was complete, I decided to go to the Windows Store and install the latest version of the Emby Client. After installation of the Emby Client I then proceeded to login through Emby Connect and connect to my home server. Emby Connect then seemed to freeze and and do nothing for several minutes and then the background changed to two alternating images. The background was a flag of the United States with a title of United States Of America. The second image was the United States CIA symbol and had the title "Property Of The CIA". This continued for about a minute and then the client just completely froze up and I had to use task kill on the process. I then went back into Emby and it opened fine. To say the least this freaked me out. I then decided to uninstall Emby from that laptop. Again, this was a brand new install of Windows 10 using an official Microsoft USB Installation Key. I have read on the web that Windows 10 spied on you but this makes me wonder if connecting to Emby Connect triggered some kind of images people are not meant to see. I am at a total loss and plan on re-installing windows 10 and see if I can duplicate this. If it happens again I will have my camera ready to snap photos. I am wondering if anyone here has seen this before of heard anything on the web.

The web client on IOS Safari is not displaying images correctly on my devices. The images are often wrong: I'll get a picture of an actor on a movie entry, or no picture at all. I've even seen my login icon displayed. If I tap on an item, the metadata is correct, but the images are all messed up. No backdrops show, even if I change the Setting value to Yes instead of Auto. The image of the poster may or may not be there; if it is, it may or may not be correct. My library looks fine on Chrome for IOS, and on any browser on my Desktop; it's just Safari. I don't mind using Chrome, but I'd like to use a home screen icon for Emby, and they only open in Safari. This happens on both iPhones and iPads. I've tried clearing out the cookies and history but it hasn't helped. I happens in any format: List, Thumb, Poster . I've attached 2 screen snaps. One is of an expanded movie page for the "Catch Me If You Can" that shows no backdrop images and the poster is for Aviator. I'm pretty sure the fact that both movies have the same star is just coincidence. In List View, that item showed the image for Cold Mountain. The other snap is of the List view showing, among other mixups, Reese Witherspoon on the Harry Potter collection. The images for Gathering Storm and Gentleman's Agreement are also wrong. However, if I tap on them, the images are correct, including backdrops! I realize this is probably errors with Safari, but I'd be happy to hear any suggestions.

Hi, it's the user rates I want to set however what ever setting I set on one user is applying to the other users although I'm only changing one users settings. I'll snap some screen shots and post later on to show what's happening.
