<p>
	Emby on Ubuntu 26.10
</p>

<p>
	Each time emby server is updated, my collections will no more hold together.
</p>

<p>
	I have to almost start all over, grouping my mkv.
</p>

<p>
	Is there anyway to prevent this from occuring ?

<p>
	thanks.

	Hi Guys,
</p>

<p>
	I have a question about the on-screen display when playing a music album.
</p>

<p>
	If i start playing an album the screen shows the backdrop (artist from library) and the front cover of the album, which is same for all songs. Thats nice like that.
</p>

<p>
	Then after 60 sec. of playing the screen changes to still have the backdrop and now only the name of the song playing with a big cover of the album in the middle of the screen.
</p>

<p>
	This is also nice, but is it possible to move that front cover away from the middle of the screen, and also change the size of it...??
</p>

<p>
	I think it is a little sad with that big cover in the middle of the screen due to that it is actually destroying your backdrop.
</p>

<p>
	I didnt use emby so much the latest time, but i started again now from a new server, so maybe there is something in the settings that I could try out regarding that.
</p>

<p>
	Cheers
</p>

		<strong>Server:</strong> 4.9.5.0 (Linux)
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Client:</strong> Emby for Roku 4.1.65, Roku OS 15.2.4 (Roku Streaming Stick 4K)
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Playback:</strong> audio transcoded to AAC, video stream-copied (video reports as Direct Play), subtitles delivered as HLS
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	On transcoded playback, pausing and resuming causes the video to "jump back" and replay a few seconds, after which the subtitles are permanently out of sync for the rest of playback. It recurs on every pause/resume cycle and the jump back usually occurs within 30 seconds of resuming (Running out a client-side cache?). Selecting a different subtitle track during playback re-aligns everything until the next pause/resume cycle, at which point it happens again. If only one subtitle track exists, the video must be stopped and restarted to re-sync everything.
</p>

<p>
	The logs suggest that upon resume, emby relaunches the transcode process with a seek offset which is probably causing the noticeable jump back, but the subtitle stream doesn't get the memo. You also can't turn the current subtitle track "off and back on" as a solution. You have to do something that causes the server to re-issue the subtitle stream for the current position. So I guess turning off a subtitle track just disables the visual display but the stream stays alive somewhere and never gets corrected. Re-displaying it just shows the same stream with the same problem.
</p>

<p>
	I'd prefer to send log files via PM. I have the server log for the time in question as well as four ffmpeg jobs. All available upon request.

	<strong>Description / Background:</strong><br />
	All my libraries (<code>Anime</code>, <code>Movies</code>, <code>TV Series</code>) are scanned and with Detect Intro enabled.
</p>

<p>
	I have enabled the generate intro video markers for all the libraries.
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>Generate intro video markers</strong> → scheduled task enabled &amp; when file is added” enabled
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong>Issue Example:</strong><br />
	For <em>Slow Horses – Season 1</em> (6 episodes):
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<p>
			No <strong>Skip Intro</strong> button appears when playing.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Intro normally starts at ~4–5 minutes into the video (well within the 10-minute cutoff).
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Season 1 meets the minimum requirement  of 2 episodes I have 6 episodes.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>Video thumbnails have already been generated</strong> successfully.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			I manually ran <strong>Detect Intro Video Markers</strong> task → finishes instantly (0 seconds), suggesting it thinks markers already exist or nothing to do.
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong>Expectation:</strong><br />
	Skip Intro markers should be generated and visible for Slow Horses S01E01–E06.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>What I Tried:</strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<p>
			Verified video thumbnails exist for the episodes.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Manually ran the scheduled task multiple times.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Rescanned the library.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Confirmed minimum episode count is met and intro is within first 10 min.
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	Just FYI if this is any useful information - plex detected the intro for all.

	I have some videos recorded on my phone while standing vertically. And when I play the video on Emby, it's horizontal. So the video gets turned on its side, and I think it's because it was shot on an iPhone while held vertically. What can I do to fix this so Emby does not change my video

<p>
	I tried playing the video on a computer and another phone. And it's tilted to the side on both devices.

	OK I have a question ! Strugling to clean my database (deleted everything until i figure out what works, I have no need for fancy page, so as my entire library is perfect , i am trying to go for minimal display.
</p>

<p>
	I prefer it is just music , select and hear it lol
</p>

<p>
	If i delete with mp3tag the tag for artists and scan a new library ,emby removes artists from its page. ( i am not talking for
</p>

<p>
	Now when I do the same with composers tag , emby keep displaying a Composers empty field.
</p>

<p>
	I have those enabled
</p>

<p>
	ALBUM,ALBUMARTIST,DISCNUMBER,GENRE,TITLE,TRACK,YEAR
</p>

<p>
	So why i have a composers field in emby, my library is just local nothing fetching from internet and just fetching the id3v2 tags.
</p>

	Hi,

<p>
	I'm in the process of migrating of Emby server. My only issue is to migrate my Music Playlist. The "old" Emby installation was still using a m3u file for that playlist so I copied it at same place in new Emby installation. Unhappy even after a Music library scan and metadatas update the playlist still doesn't show up <span><img alt=":(" data-emoticon="" src="https://emby.media/community/uploads/emoticons/default_sad.png" title=":(" /></span>

	<span>I have found some explanations about m3u transfer but it looks like it was working only on old releases of Emby and it's no more possible with current version ?</span>

<p>
	<span>Does it mean it's impossible to transfer a playlist from an Emby server to an other one ?</span>

	Hi everyone.
</p>

<p>
	I'm running emby 4.9.5.0, and this option is not working for me. I'm testing this out. I manually add an episode and let it show up in the "<strong>Latest</strong>" section for that library. However, unless I go to "<strong>Scheduled Tasks</strong>" and run "<strong>Detect Episode Intros</strong>", the skip intro button does not show up. When I manually run the "Detect Episode Intros" task, it's instant.
</p>

<p>
	Am I missing something?

	Yesterday out of nowhere my hardware acceleration stopped working. I was watching something on my server and suddenly it started lagging, which is why I turned down the bitrate of the series I was watching. After this, the entire system started crashing as soon as I use hardware acceleration for transcoding.

<p>
	I did check the logs for any information on why this is happening. There seems to be an error which I can't really make out what it means right before the log stops (Logs attached). At first I thought it was an error that occured because of my reverse proxy setup, however the same thing happens when I stream through the local network.
</p>

<p>
	I did once have a similar issue that I could resolve by changing the transcoding settings to only use QuickSync instead of VA API and QuickSync.

<p>This post is aimed at brand new users who need help setting the file permissions so that Emby can access your media.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">File permissions for Linux native filesystems</span></strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="font-size:14px;">The first thing you need to understand is how Linux determines the file permissions for any file on a compatible file system, e.g. ext4, ext3, xfs, btrfs, etc.  You can view the current file permissions by typing</span></p>
<pre class="ipsCode prettyprint">
ls -l /path/to/media</pre>
<p>Doing so should leave you with output like</p>
<div>
<pre class="ipsCode prettyprint">
drwxr-xr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:05 Transporter 3 (2008)
drwxrwxr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:09 Transporter, The (2002)
drwxrwxr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:03 Van Helsing (2004)
drwxr-xr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:01 Veronica Mars (2014)
drwxrwxr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:11 V for Vendetta (2005)
drwxr-xr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:12 WALL·E (2008)
drwxr-xr-x. 2 emby users 4096 Dec 22 23:10 Whiplash (2014)</pre>
<p>The first column gives you the file permissions as they are right now.  Let's break it down: there will always be ten letters possibly mixed with dashes in the column.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The first letter/dash denotes whether that item is a directory or not.  The next nine letters will always be a combination of rwx and dashes and tell you the <em><strong>r</strong></em>ead, <em><strong>w</strong></em>rite, and e<em><strong>x</strong></em>ecute permissions for the owner, the group, and others.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Now let's break down the example give above, specifically <strong>Veronica Mars (2014)</strong>.  As you can see by the first letter in the first column, the <em>d</em>, the item is a directory.  The next three letters as you already know set the permissions for the owner.  In this case, rwx means the owner has read, write, and execute permissions.  The next three letters/dashes tell you the permissions for the group.  r-x means that group has read permissions and execute permissions on the directory.  The last three letters are also r-x and mean that everyone who doesn't either own the file or belong to the group that owns it has read and execute permissions to the file.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The user who owns the file will be the third column from the left.  In the examples above, the files are all owned by the emby user.  The group that owns the file will be the fourth column from the left.  Again, in the examples above, the files are owned by the group users.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>WORD OF CAUTION: execute permissions are a bit tricky to see as the execute permission for a directory means it can be opened by a anyone who has the execute permission.  For a file, the execute permission means that the file can execute code (potentially dangerous if you don't know for sure that the file is safe).  Generally, as long as you are keeping your system up to date and don't randomly type in your sudo password to a file that is execting it is extremely difficult for a virus to get onto your system.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">File permissions for NTFS and other Windows based filesystems</span></strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>NTFS has limitations on Linux because of the way that Windows handles file permissions.  Consequently, when an NTFS drive is mounted, the user must decide who owns ALL of the files on the drive.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>If you are mounting the NTFS drive via <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fstab" rel="external nofollow">the fstab</a>, you can set the file permissions by adding rw,uid=username,gid=groupname to the mount options.  For NTFS drives that will never be unplugged from the computer, this is the preferred method to mount the drive.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>If you are mounting the drive using the auto-mounting provided by the distro, you will need to add rw,uid=username,gid=groupname to the mount options for the auto-mounter.  In Gnome, this can be accomplished via Disks.  I am unsure about KDE (anyone willing to let me know, please do so).</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
</div>
<p>WORD OF CAUTION: all drives in the fstab MUST be available to the system at all times.  If a drive is in the fstab but not available at boot, the boot sequence will drop to a rescue shell.</p>

	Hello, I’ve noticed an issue with subtitles on certain shows. If I start playback, enable subtitles, and then rewind, the subtitles that were originally displayed correctly appear duplicated—sometimes tripled or even quadrupled.
</p>

<p>
	I’ve attached a Google Drive link with a video demonstrating the problem, along with my Emby server logs and screenshots of my subtitle settings. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

	Hi. I'm running Emby in Docker on Debian. I'm using Intel i5 8500 with QuickSync for transcoding. I had everything configured nicely and working on previous Emby version. After updating to 4.9.3.0 it stopped working.
</p>

<p>
	On Transcoding page it shows as if hardware acceleration is available:
</p>

<div class="ipsSpoiler" data-ipsspoiler="">
	<div class="ipsSpoiler_header">
		<span>Spoiler</span>
	</div>

		</p>
	</div>
</div>

<p>
	But once I start playback it falls back to software:
</p>

<div class="ipsSpoiler" data-ipsspoiler="">
	<div class="ipsSpoiler_header">
		<span>Spoiler</span>
	</div>

	<div class="ipsSpoiler_contents">

		</p>
	</div>
</div>

<p>
	On the other file I tested "Stats for Nerds" showed HW transcoding icon, but there was no tonemapping and in logs I can see it is falling back to software:<br />

</p>

<div class="ipsSpoiler" data-ipsspoiler="">

	I'm using Emby for some transcoded streaming. Client is a FireTV Stick. I configured 3MBps max bitrate which seems activating the transcoding but it seems not happening in reality.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I can check "nvidia-smi", which does not show any ongoing process. Also in my router I can clearly see there is much more bandwidth (~10MBps) used than I requested. Stats for nerds also confirms this (direct play), emby server admin also shows direct play. But transcoding log doesnt really show any errors at least I couldn't find any on my phone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Can you please take a look at it?

	I'm experiencing an issue with Intel QuickSync hardware-accelerated encoding on both the latest stable (4.9.3.0) and beta (4.10.0.2) versions of Emby Server.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Problem:</strong> Hardware encoding via QuickSync only works for bitrates up to 39 Mbit/s.
</p>

<p>
	When the source bitrate exceeds this threshold, Emby falls back to software transcoding (x265), even though the hardware is capable of handling much higher bitrates.

Max Bitrate: 234 Mbit/s  ← Correctly shows 234 Mbit/s
Frame Sizes: 32x32...4096x4096
Color Formats: NV12

Profile Max Level Max Bitrate Bit Depths Resolutions
Baseline   Level 5.2   234 Mbit/s    8           4096x2304@56 - 1920x1080@172
Main       Level 5.2   234 Mbit/s    8           4096x2304@56 - 1920x1080@172
High       Level 5.2   234 Mbit/s    8           4096x2304@56 - 1920x1080@172</span></pre>

<p>
	<strong>Expected Behavior:</strong> The Intel Arc A310 should support HEVC hardware encoding at bitrates well above 39 Mbit/s (similar to the 234 Mbit/s shown for H.264). Other media servers (Jellyfin) successfully use hardware encoding on the same GPU with target bitrates exceeding 50+ Mbit/s.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Question:</strong> Is this 39 Mbit/s limitation a bug, or an intentional restriction?

	Just as the topic states, I upgraded to 4.9.5 and a couple hours later I was noticing the latest movies added were showing movies from the 1990's and missing artwork.
</p>

<p>
	I rolled back to 4.9.3 for now.
</p>

<p>
	Not sure how to report this as a bug since I rolled back.

	I'm running Emby Server as a docker container on my unRAID server and am having some issues.
</p>

<p>
	A lot of my movies don't pull any images or NFO data.  I can do it manually, but it's not automatic when I add a file.  I have to browse to the movie and then do the Refresh Metadata -&gt; Replace Images and then it comes right up.  Is there a button or setting I'm missing to do that automatically when a file is added to the library?<br />
	<br />
	Also, if I try and back fill the images by refreshing the metadata on the library and choose "Search for missing metadata" and toggle on "Replace Existing Images", will that leave alone everything that has metadata and images?   I've had to do some manually because they were obscure and I don't want to lose what I've done manually.

	Hello,

<p>
	I noticed the  hardware transcoding on arm64 CPU isn't supported yet based on <a href="https://emby.media/support/articles/apps/linux/Emby-Linux-Platform-Support.html" rel="external nofollow">https://emby.media/support/articles/apps/linux/Emby-Linux-Platform-Support.html</a>. Then in November 2025,

<p>
	 mentioned the support will be ready soon on the beta channel.
</p>

<p>
	Is there any update given 6 months have passed?
</p>

<p>
	Best wishes,
