Media Browser Server 3.0.5271 Released

This has been a longer than usual development cycle and as a result we've got some great things to introduce. Let's get right to the release highlights:

  • New Internet Channels Infrastructure
  • Improved DLNA Support
  • Improved Server Localization
  • Live TV H264 Optimizations
  • Subtitle downloading via OpenSubtitles.org
  • Newly designed web client home page
  • Design and customize your web client
  • Expanded user audio/subtitle language preferences
  • Improved remote control in the web client

New Internet Channels

We're happy to announce new infrastructure we've built to allow for browsing and playback of internet content from your favorite Media Browser apps. Right off the bat we're releasing four channels, but look for more soon. The channels are available as plugins in the plugin catalog you've come to enjoy.

Big thanks to Snazy2000 and TimHobbs for their contributions to channel development. We are looking for new contributors who may have interest in helping us add more channels.

For now, trailers will also be available as a library folder in order to give the developers a little time to catch up. Within another release or two, it will strictly be a channel.

Improved DLNA Support

Thanks to community efforts we've added support for some additional devices, as well as improved our default profiles to help increase compatibility.

Live TV H264 Optimizations (ServerWMC Only)

For those of you who have H264 tv programs, you'll soon see improved server cpu utilization during playback, depending on the device being used.

Subtitle downloading from OpenSubtitles.org

In the metadata area you'll notice new settings related to subtitle downloading. With a supplied OpenSubtitles account, you can now enjoy automated subtitle downloading as items are scanned into the library.

There's even a management page in the metadata editor that allows you to see what subtitles you have, download new ones, delete, and more.

Newly designed web client home page

It's no longer just a portal but is now much smarter - smarter about putting the content you want to consume right in front of you.

But if there's something about it you don't like, now you have the ability to personalize it to your own tastes.

Expanded user language settings

Each user now has additional options they can utilize to customize their audio and subtitle language preferences. You'll also see greater consistency in getting these settings applied across your devices.

Expanded remote controls

Summer of Code

We're looking for new people to join the development team! It doesn't matter what your skillset is, we can find a place for you. There's all kinds of projects available from new channel development, new app development, and many more.

Cant seem to get my server (windows 7) to update, I've checked all the settings (set to update to latest beta) but still says it is up to date on version 3.0.5238.39498?

Automatic download  doesn't see any new version, manual download see old version as well. Could you please tell me, where we can find these bits?

Updates are staged so as not to overload the admin site I believe. Just have to wait for it to be available.

If you download the BETA from the website, it's still the same version (v3.0.5238.39498).

Just loaded 5264, looks good.  Wish there was an option to restart as a service after an update though.  I always need to exit the tray icon and go into services and restart.

I can't get path substitution to work in mb-classic with this latest server beta. I've got all media beneath D:\Data and substitute D:\Data with \\myserver.mydomain.local but I've also tried explicit paths substituting D:\Data\Movies with \\myserver.mydomain.local\movies but no dice. It's not an access problem, server as well as client can access the data. It's like the path substitution never occur. The server transcodes and streams the file for me and in mbc I get "Could not access media. Will attempt to stream. Use UNC paths or path substitution on server and ensure this machine can access them". I do and it can.

Any ideas?

Same issue as muppen..

Its a server bug, downgrade to stable to get path substitutions working again.

Nice work guys...

It would be nice if you could add notification when subtitle downloaded... :)

I've been patiently waiting for this new version and it still isn't available to me yet. Is there a way to know when we will get the update. Is the staggered release determined by your IP address? Just curious so I can know when to expect it.

Again thanks for such an amazing product.

What I really need is a way in MetaData to tell it the 'type' for the file, so it shows MKVs over a certain size as BD, or if I change them to HD-DVD so that I know the source of the content I'm storing
