Emby for Apple TV 1.6.9 Released - Skip Intro & Multi-Player Support

This is the latest release of Emby for Apple TV.  It's a small maintenance release, containing improvements to existing functionality as well as a couple fixes for user identified issues.

Revamped video player with automatic switching between two player engines
Emby for Apple TV 1.6.9 includes enhancements to improve video playback.  One of the new enhancements is the Preferred Video Player in Playback settings.  You can choose to set either MPV or the native player as the default or use the auto setting and let the client decide which player to use.

Version 1.6.9 supports one of Emby's newest features that allow skipping the Into segments of TV Episodes. This feature needs to be enabled on the server for any/all TV Series Libraries.

Emby Server will analyze all Episodes of each series to figure out exactly where the intro starts and stops recording this information in the database. Once each series is complete it's available on the client to skip.

You can set this up on each client to work manually or automatically. You will see a skip into button on the display bottom right as shown in the following screen shot.

The newest version of Emby for Apple TV sports an improved detail screen for media making it very clean looking and easier to use as shown in the following picture.

We have revamped the interface and greatly improved the way you can sort media and interact with it.  There are now many ways to sort your media collection to get different views.

Other improvements and fixes included in 1.6.9 include:

  • New Genres and Artists tabs in Music Videos
  • Improved HDR support
  • Improved refresh rate switching support

Hi, sorry, this title is a typo. 1.6.9 is the latest. Thanks.

Am I correct that the Emby Apple TV app still does not support multipart/multidisc movies? E.g. if I name my movie "Some Title (2022)-part1.mkv" and "Some Title (2022)-part2.mkv" it will not have any way to play the second part? That's (still) what I'm seeing today.

To me, this is the biggest friction point and makes it hard to recommend Emby on Apple TV. Is this a rare setup for a video library? Is multidisc a feature hardly anybody else uses? Is there another way of setting this up that is preferred? Or am I missing something in the Emby Apple TV app?

Cheers.

I believe it would be a rare setup these days. Is there any reason you can't join the parts?

Thanks for the feedback -- right after posting I started looking at that, and it seems like MKVToolnix / mkvmerge does a really good job of appending mkv files while preserving everything important like subtitles and audio streams. So I think I have a solution, which is great!

Yes, because the many are home movies that are meant to be independent in their own right, and logically the parts make up the full event.   Having Multi-part support is important, and is available in most of the other Emby Clients (Including Web, and IOS).    I feel parity is needed in the ATV app for this.
