Version 4.0 of our Roku App Now Available

A major face-lift for the Roku app - bringing it more in line with the other apps - is on its way to your Roku device.  4.0 brings the familiar "tab" style interface to this app.  Allowing you to easily move between views in a library and set your default landing page in each of them.

To set the default landing tab, simply enter a library and select the "cog" wheel at the top (or use the * button on your remote).

In addition to the new library interface, the music player has been updated to the new view seen in the other apps as well.

We hope you enjoy these long-awaited updates for our Roku app.  Your device should update automatically when available.

Will it auto-update if we have been using the side-loaded beta version of the Roku app that was available from directly from the website and not in the app store?

This release was good for me.

Couple of observations in that I had to pick the default tab in the Emby Roku GUI rather than it just read it from the user settings that can be configured on server management for a user login account and no horizontal theme as yet (sure someone said this was coming). I liked the fact Roku app gets the logo.png size of the movie/tv in a decent size on screen (unlike LG app) and the big clock font size (unlike the LG App). I think the DVD cover art could be shown a bit bigger though to match the other Emby apps as I squint at a distance.

Well done from me generally though on this version :)

The face lift has been great but we are having non-stop issues with emby not playing the next episode in order. I also often see emby get stuck waiting to play the next episode. Like it shows the current episode stopped with 4 seconds to go. I would say it's my 4k roku device but it's doing it on my other 4k roku device.

Hi @Luke Great Work....Before I dig the Roku back out for a test...any fix to selecting a channel from the EPG Guide, then going back to the epg guide where I left-off instead of the beginning of the guide?

Thanks!

Navigation is still pretty poor. Emby Theater is much better... and most Kodi skins are 10x easier to use.  Would be nice if Roku customers got some input. Seems like these updates are done based on only the dev's opinion, not the user base?

Can you explain what you mean?

Is it the number of items on the screen limiting navigation? Is it the presentation doesn't simply "show enough?". It is hard to decipher without same pain points as well as pleasure points. Make a list of what you feel is right, that you hope never changes, the pleasures you have using the app. Then a list of where there needs to be some things changed, the painful parts that make you wince. Explain how they change your opinion of the app and why. Explain how it is better than the current way. Explain how this works across platforms as one platform cannot be the "red headed step child" anymore.

Can you give us clues as where you want effort expended? We want everybody happy but we also have to keep moving forward in consistency of the applications. There is a goal and vision that evolves every day. This is why today what we share might change tomorrow. It is an ever evolving task to keep everyone happy. Help us get you happier. Where have we failed? Where have we exceeded expectations? What problems do you see in the future? We want to solve those today. Thanks. :)

Is it me or did the option to show missing episodes within a season disappear?

Or did the Roku App never have that option?

Hi, you can use the Emby web to set this for your user profile, and then it will apply in all apps.

New user in the UK and getting to know the product.

The server product works superbly well most times - although on client devices I am getting "holds" at the end of the first file for movies copied from DVD's onto my server's HDD - and I did see the cautionary note warning me it was still experimental. Interestingly watching the same movie on the server machine lets me view the entire movie seamlessly.

Saw the announcement on the ROKU update. I am using a "Now" stick which as I understand it is based on a ROKU model - but the Emby app will not display in the app store on that device - even after I "force" an update.

Will the ROKU app eventually appear there for the Now stick and let me load it or is there a workaround to install it manually?

Well done on all your efforts.

This update pretty much broke the connection to my Emby server. Ever since it updated, I cannot log in from any of my Roku TVs. The Emby app was working perfectly fine until it got updated.

You're Roku's also might have gotten a firmware update that is causing you an issue.

Can you explain a bit more what your problem with connection is?

Are you using local server accounts to login or Emby Connect accounts?

If you remove/forget the server and add it back does that work better?

Give us a bit more information to work on so we can help you.

We've been seeing this behavior as well, both with episodes and at the end of films.  Sometimes it seems to replay the last few seconds of the video, but then sits on "loading".  This is happening with two TCL Roku TVs and a streaming stick (3800X).

Since the update we have also had an increase of the number of issues with streaming in general.  Sometimes this seems to be explained by transcoding lag (though maxing out a CPU core when transcoding with hardware acceleration also seems new, that is likely a different issue) but other times I have 10+ minutes of transcode buffer and the stream will stutter to the point of being unwatchable, playing a minute or less of video before going back to loading.  Restarting the Roku seems to fix it most times.

One of the sets has wired ethernet, so no wifi issues, and the other two have strong signals and no issues with other apps.  Further, I am not seeing these issues with the web app or on Android.
