Ok formatted the flash drive with disk part on windows 11.drive is now on fat format and installed Emby successfully.

@FrostByte, can you please update the USB Installer sticky post to include the required formatting (is it just FAT16 that works?)

It used to be they only supported FAT16.  Newer sets support more formats and I've seen people say they've used others and it worked.  I just put FAT16 in the instructions because I knew that worked on all.

My manual says it supports FAT, exFAT, NTFS

What would you like me to change it to?

I added a little blurb about other formats but will change it to whatever you want when you get back

Anyone on Windows would be able to easily use NTFS so if that works format works you have an easy one available to most people as it's probably the default.

That makes sense

This reference suggests (Samsung TV: How do I Play Media Files in USB Devices? | Samsung Hong Kong

QLED and SUHD TVs support FAT, exFAT, and NTFS file systems.

Full HD TVs support NTFS (Read Only), FAT16 and FAT32.

Adding exFAT and NTFS should be fine.

Thanks FrostByte, cayers

One hint for all where it does not work.

For my Samsung TV I had to change the name of the file userwidget/emby.tmg to userwidget.tmg and put this file into the root folder. Than the installation went fine.

That is weird, but a great tip if it works.  How did you work that out?

Yesterday I wanted to update the emby app on my Samsung TV app, therefore I have removed it - after i did the instructions provided by emby my TV just recognized that there was an USB Stick but did not start the installation. After 3-4 hours of trying out each format FAT16, FAT32 searching in various forums I found one article (unfortenally i can not find it anymore) where a it was described that some series have userwidget/file.tmg  and some other series have just the .tmg file in the root. In my frustration I renamed the file and copied it into the root folder, and it worked... After that I remembered that 1 year ago, when I installed the emby app the first time I had similar issues, probably it was the same :)

Good find.  Can you update you post on this and change the file name as you have .tmp as the extension which might confuse some people?  Thanks

ah, wow, last comment from may, 5th with the hint: I'll post something later.
Really hate these posts, if people search for something, just post it or say nothing at all. Years later, someone with the same problem just will find THIS. Annoying.

Well, but my problem:
I can install with the files here. After one month i have to reinstall. THIS is impossible. The same file is NOT accepted any longer from the TV. So i have to use a newer one. But.... if there is no, what to do?

You can ask instead of complaining ;) If you read my description everything is clear, don't know what more infos you would get with an screenshot.

You have to uninstall the app from TV and install it again. That is at least what I have to do from time to time.

@zarejosinSorry, I'm not used to such quick replies on forums. Usually 3 months are enough to let a topic die. And yes, the instructions are clear, but there are many laypeople who might be helped if there were this screenshot that was clearly promised here and what you can find with any search engine if you search for it specifically.

As I said, my problem is different. I can install the app exactly once, I can uninstall it easily. But even if I then disconnect the TV from the power supply and thus also delete the cache; I can't reinstall the same version. Is this a "normal" problem?

To make you happy at least a bit I have attached the promised screenshots.

You could try to rename your file to file.tmg (original name is: emby.tmg) - maybe it will install it. This was my issue. I couldn't also install  it when I renamed it, it worked.

@zarejosinyes, that is what i said.
If i uninstall it.... i cannot reinstall it in the same version. I absolutely do not understand why, because the app is completely removed. It's like on windows, like uninstall a program and some rest in the registry. For example Adobe Premiere - 30day trial. I also cannot reinstall that.
So what i CAN do is: install any newer version. Like if the last one was 1.3.2 i can go to 1.3.3, my TV has no problem with that.
But the point is: if within one month there is no new version, i cannot use emby any longer.

PS:
Thanks, i'll try the renaiming trick.
And thank you VERY MUCH for the screenshot!

Yes, we have the same issue. After one month my Tv says "License no longer available" so I can not use emby anymore.

I just uninstall it
Use the .zip and put it on my usb again
rename the file from emby to file
than the installation starts
... after one month same procedure

I guess this is a bug in the Samsung Tv.

Hi, just to be clear, you can’t reinstall the same version after 30 days, you always have to download the latest. If it is less than 30 days then you can uninstall and reinstall the same version, but I’m not sure why you’d really want to do that.

As discussed many times before, the 30 day limit is built into the app packaging process by Samsung for the USB beta release. It is not a bug, it is by design from Samsung for beta testing.

it is important to uninstall the app from the apps screen, it’s not sufficient just to remove the the app from the Home Screen ribbon.

I’m not sure why you are needing to rename the Emby.tmg file, this is not normal. I suspect an older copy is stuck in your tv os, so renaming gets around this. I’m sure if you did tv/smart hub reset that would also fix it, but it would also make you need to start everything from the beginning again.

@SamES do you happen to know if it's a cert that expires? If it's an app or author cert it can be extended pretty easily.
If so, Samsung has instructions for extending certificates past their expiration date which may help.

No, Samsung have an online (developer) packaging tool that packages, encrypts and signs the tmg package for usb installation.  This includes the expiration, which I believe also checks with the Smasung servers during installation.  The widget.licence file is actually part of the certification chain and is matched to the tmg file.  It's different to the author certificate process.  The only way to re-sign it is to use their online developer tool (which is part of their submission process) to repackage and encrypt.  Before this option came about, there was no way to even install from USB, so at least they have made this way available for development/testing otherwise we would be quite stuck

good afternoon  @Luke.  Do you take care of updating the emby application for samsung tizen?  I downloaded the latest version, 1.4.8 and it does not allow me to change the language and subtitles.  I tried with 2 movies and it only plays the default language and it doesn't let me change.  I tried the emby application of lg, the same movies, and I did not have this problem

Hi, please open a topic in the Samsung section describing your issue

Thanks.
