Hey Google - What's your coolest new app?

8093 views

I'm so glad you asked. Why 'Emby' is the coolest personal media server on the planet and I can now control it for you. What would you like to do...?

Your Emby system is now available to control with your Google Home device. Just install the Emby for Google Home app, link it to your Emby Connect account and then here are just a few of the things you can do with your voice:

Okay Google...Ask Emby Home to

Play the next episode of The Walking Dead on Emby Theater

Suggest something to watch

Play a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory

Play songs by Adele

Bring up Deadpool

And after something is playing, you can do things like:

Change the audio to English

What's playing?

The invocation phrase for the app is "Emby Home" so be sure to use that key phrase when trying to talk to your Emby system. Try it out now on your Google Home device. It is available worldwide. Complete instructions are here.

This is super cool.

I will use it every day. Just recently set up the LG Harmony to link with Google Home, so that I can say "Hey Google, turn on the TV"

Well, the reason why I love Emby so much is that I can use it without having to connect to external servers like using emby connect or google or whatever. I can use my media center locally without any privacy concerns and without sharing my data with any third parties.

I can only pray that this will stay this way.

Trading convenience for privacy is a really, really bad idea.

Think about it :)

Sweet, however the guide for installing the Emby home app to google home gave me an aneurysm.

I'm not sure if it's cause i'm in a non official google home supported country or what, but the guide for the google home app wasn't accurate for me.

I had to launch the google assistant on my phone and there's a blue envelope on the upper right that you press and it takes you to actions where you can search for emby home and install it and all.

I got it all setup... but not sure how to get it to play on my device.  I got all the way to Play "movie name" on "Emby Home", google then asks which device I would like to play on and names 3 different ones... I state device 1, and then it tries... and after several seconds of nothing playing on device 1 (Roku 4), it says failed to connect to device and exits.  Feel like either I am missing something, or a network setting could be to blame--I have force all external connections to https enabled and certs.  No normal issues but then again, I don't use Emby Connect much and instead use my https://dynamicdnsname for everything.

Nice, finally got it to work and am now exploring :-).

Why did you choose for "Emby Home" instead of just "Emby"?

I love the idea, but I am a little disappointed by the functionality so far.  If I ask for something from Emby Home with Google Assistant on my phone, there's no way to have it play on said phone...

Also, when asking from Google Home, "ask emby home to play back to the future on my living room chromecast" it doesn't register the chromecast like Youtube of Netflix do...  instead a list of misnamed devices in my house, including a DLNA AVR.  Potential is there, but needs some work.

I tried it and got it connected to my Google home but it says it can't connect to my server but I can click on the link in the admin panel and connect to the server using the external IP. So not sure what the issue is. It isn't that I don't have it connected to Google Home, because I have my thermostat, lights, switches and some other stuff all connected to Google.

I got it linked within Google Home app, but Google Assistant never recognizes the keyword of "Emby Home".  It always hears "MD Home".  Anyone else have that problem?

Yea I've had issues with Google not understanding me at times. It isn't always perfect and I am in the Midwest which has the least accent of anywhere in the US.

I've been thinking about asking about adding this feature for a while.   But I wasn't sure about all my request going through Google.

What about adding the feature to a system like this one?

Looking forward to see French support...  and hopefully chromecast, which apparently aren't controllable in the google assistant sdk...

You need to setup the server with Emby Connect. Please see our wiki article here on that: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Google%20Home

Thanks.

How did you do that ? theres only a mic with google assistant, and i cannot find the actions menu anywhere

was never using the assistant, just found it

is there anyway have this running without allowing outside connections to emby  ? (or at least specifying what ip (ranges) may ? )

I do not want to disturb the hype about a new feature...

But is there really one out there that is concerned about privacy issues and sharing all your private data with google for no reason but convenience? It is a really dangerous development...

Any comment is appreciated.
