Emby Server New and Improved for Asustor NAS

We're pleased to announce availability of a new package for Emby Server for Asustor NAS. To learn how to install it, head over to the download page of our website:

https://emby.media/download

Rebuilt with Smaller, Faster Components

We've rebuilt the server around Microsoft .NET Core, which offers major performance improvements over the Mono runtime that was used in the previous package.

Additionally, everything is self-contained into a single download which means no more manual installation of dependencies.

Built and Managed by the Emby Team

We've built this ourselves, which means you can count on new versions always being immediately available on our website for download following every Emby Server release.

Awesome work with a native package for Asustor. Is there a guide on how best to migrate from the previous older version from the Asustor App Central to then import and maintain the database, metadata, watched states  etc into the new native package version? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi @luke,

Thank you for all your hard work in creating this new Asustor version -

but with the usual poor programmers Emby has - is it worth it ??

But before I can even imagine installing or trying this version, I need to ask -

Does installing this wipe ALL the metadata etc. of the currently installed version ?

And I am afraid to say - IT DOES !!

I now have 2 Asustor machines. And so have installed this new version on my backup Asustor unit.

1st I copied a dozen or so TV Show Series , Movies and Music Albums across and installed the old Asustor Version and did the usual install. The finding and indexing then took approx. 40 minutes.

Then I changed the watched status of 1/2 the TV shows and Movies (as if they had been watched) then installed this new version.

And guess what --- wait for it --- wait for it -- yes !!!  IT WIPED ALL THE VIEW STATUS AND METADATA !!!

So it basically comes down to either updating the Asustor version and having ALL YOUR DATA wiped, installing this new version and having ALL YOU DATA WIPED or just stay how you are and manually updating via the Linux.Mono version.

---------------------------

My problem is this, I have a huge library that takes over 30 hours to install all the metadata etc. and then a further week going through everything cleaning up the mess Emby makes of things - like ignoring ALL the watched status on TV shows, Movies etc.

If Emby could actually get programmers that cared about it's users they would write this program correctly and not have installs or replacement versions wipe everything all the time.

WHY ?? If the metadata is already there and being saved in it's own folder, the pictures (fanart etc) is already there and the NFO files are already there etc. DOES EMBY HAVE TO WIPE THEM WHEN IT INSTALLS ?????

Honestly it makes no sense and just shows how poorly written this App (or program) is.

When there is 100% proof that this new version can be installed and not create a week of headaches - then I might think of installing and using it, but til then I'll just keep doing manual updates via the Linux.Mono version.

So once again all I can say is -

Thank you for all your hard work in creating this new Asustor version -

but with the usual poor programmers Emby has - is it worth it ??
