Emby Server 3.0.5569 Released

Luke

The stable channel has been updated. Thanks to everyone who helped test the beta. Our cloud features are just beginning, so stay tuned for more!

Recap

A new version of Emby Server has been released with some exciting new additions. Before we go over them, if you missed our recent Emby announcement you can read all about that here:

Introducing Cloud Sync & Folder Sync

We worked really hard on sync during this release cycle to bring you new features that you'll find useful. Cloud & Folder Sync allow you to sync media to external locations, whether it be for backup purposes or to archive content in multiple resolutions. Apps can then stream the content from the cloud instead of your server, thereby sparing your upload bandwidth.

Let's say for example you have an original copy of a movie at 40Mbps. It looks fantastic but will require transcoding anytime you'd like to stream to Roku. Now you can sync that movie to the cloud and choose a profile that will allow Roku to direct stream:

When your users stream the content, they'll direct stream from google drive rather than rely on your server for transcoding.

To setup Cloud Sync or Folder Sync, see the Services tab of the Sync control panel. Look for separate blog posts on these soon with detailed walk-throughs.

Cloud & Folder Sync are your General Purpose Conversion Tools

As you sync content you're free to choose the conversion profile that will determine the output format. In future releases we intend to allow you to modify these profiles directly and even create your own.

Syncs Your Subtitles

When you sync to the cloud, your subtitles will be converted to multiple formats, ensuring they're always available no matter what device you're playing from.

Goodbye GDI, Hello ImageMagick

We've migrated all of our image processing functions from GDI to ImageMagick, thus clearing the way for the server to run smoothly on NAS devices such as Synology. Look for a Synology package soon. While we were at it, we learned a few new tricks, and in the future you may see the server create more beautiful, automatic images such as

A big thanks to t.andre for his efforts on this!

Emby Server Debian package now available

See http://mediabrowser.tv/download/

Big thanks to @hurricanehernandez

Enhanced Live TV Metadata

Live TV will now be enhanced with internet metadata for movies, and the suggestions page in the web interface now has an Upcoming Movies section. Big thanks to ChubbyArse for this!

New Scheduled Task time limit

Now you can configure time limits for scheduled tasks, perfect for long running overnight jobs that you don't want running during usage hours.

Support more WTV metadata

We'll now extract episode information from embedded metadata in the event the file is not named according to TV naming recommendations. This hasn't made it to auto-organize yet, but it's planned for the future.

DLNA Cast & Crew Setting

We like rich metadata, but we understand many people just want the quickest path from point A to point B. The server dashboard now has a setting to turn off the Cast & Crew feature.

New Fanart.TV Images

Support has been added for the following images:

  • Season posters
  • Season banners

Other Fixes

  • Detect incomplete nfo's and supplement with internet metadata
  • Fixed playlist content being playable when it shouldn't be
  • Resolved browser-based live tv playback issues

Use our API Libraries

As many of you know, we have a public api, and nothing pleases us more when new people step up and find ways to use it. We have complete API wrappers available for:

Mac OS .pkg does not appear to update the server.  (likewise with previous beta) whats going on?

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Releases/tree/master/Server says it was last updated a month ago.  I would be fine if I had instructions on how to build it myself.  I too am looking forward to the new updates.

We've added ImageMagick as a dependency so for OSX we have to figure out where we're going to get the binaries from or if we're going to build it ourselves. If you want to help that would be great.

difficult to criticise when I really appreciate the community, hard work and direction Emby is travelling...  BUT, when my server informs me there is an update available (not even a beta) and your news blog reports the same, I would expect to be able to download it.  If updates aren't available for particular setup's then state it, as it gets a little frustrating! :-)  I agree with @grimsage very little instructions available to assist, remember we are not all as wiz as you @Luke :-(   Happy to assist

that's interesting. first time i've seen that. everything has been identical up to this point. nobody in the alpha or beta groups reported anything like that. we'll have to look into it.

I like how on the web UI the "latest media" shows all latest media and not just unwatched latest media.

I don't like how you can't distinguish between what is watched and and what is unwatched on the home page.  Shouldn't the posters should have a check mark on them for watched?

All but "the gambler" have been watched.

Yeah I mainly like how my watched series (they are marked as watched!!!) are shown as not watched. I found that there is an option to hide them, please, change it to be enabled by default....

I know that it can easily be installed on mac using homebrew, that does build it from sources though.

you can also get binaries from: ftp://ftp.imagemagick.org/pub/ImageMagick/binaries/ImageMagick-x86_64-apple-darwin14.0.0.tar.gz

Thanks. I'll test this. Problem is we also need the decoder libraries and I doubt they are included in that. But I'll check. Although it's a shame they don't post Q8 binaries because it would offer much better performance. But we may have to go with this just out of practicality.

@Luke ...Just to confirm, is there currently a method/download that I can use to upgrade to the latest Mac OSX Emby server?  or am I stuck on the 3.0.5518 release?

I am trying to experiment with the latest Kodi/Emby addon, others have reported good results with the latest server, which I don't seem to be able to download...  please confirm.  Thanks.

maybe the key would be to use something like the as the base, but recommend the user install imagemagick on their own for better performance?

that also might allow for smaller downloads for people that already have image magick configured and running.  If they have it no need to download it.

what decoder libraries do you need to be included?

option "with-quantum-depth-8", "Compile with a quantum depth of 8 bit"
  option "with-quantum-depth-16", "Compile with a quantum depth of 16 bit"
  option "with-quantum-depth-32", "Compile with a quantum depth of 32 bit"
  option "with-perl", "enable build/install of PerlMagick"
  option "without-magick-plus-plus", "disable build/install of Magick++"
  option "with-jp2", "Compile with Jpeg2000 support"
  option "enable-hdri", "Compile with HDRI support"
  option "with-fftw", "Compile with FFTW support"

  depends_on "libtool" => :run

  depends_on "pkg-config" => :build

  depends_on "jpeg" => :recommended
  depends_on "libpng" => :recommended
  depends_on "freetype" => :recommended

  depends_on :x11 => :optional
  depends_on "fontconfig" => :optional

  depends_on "little-cms2" => :optional

  depends_on "liblqr" => :optional
  depends_on "openexr" => :optional
  depends_on "ghostscript" => :optional
  depends_on "webp" => :optional
  depends_on "homebrew/versions/openjpeg21" if build.with? "jp2"
  depends_on "fftw" => :optional

Looks like homebrew has a bunch of options that can be passed. so that might make it easier for people to install it on their own for the better performance.
