We're back with a small follow-up to our previous release in which we introduced Media Browser Connect. For those who have not seen that yet, you can catch up here:

New Server Releases

As many of you know, we've worked hard to get the server released onto new platforms. Over the past two weeks we've had several releases, with more soon to follow.

New DLNA Genre Views

DLNA browsing has been enhanced with new genre presentations for movies, tv, music and games.

New Web Client Filtering

A number of screens have added new filtering. You can now filter by Genres, Parental Ratings, Tags, Years and more.

As always you can expect to see these filters in other apps soon.

New Card Views

By now you all should know we like to keep up with technology and design trends. We've taken some inspiration from Google Play and added new card layouts that display more information and provide single-click access to important functions.

Note: These functions have already been available via right-click and tap-hold menus, but we realize not everybody knows that.

Revamped Movie Filename Parsing

We've revamped our movie file name parsing as part of our new file naming project. We now fully support Kodi standards and features and have a greater ability to handle non-clean file names. We're starting with movies and in a future release you can expect to see the same treatment applied to TV.

Specifically the Kodi features we now support are:

  • Video file extensions
  • CleanDateTime regex expressions
  • CleanString regex expressions
  • File stacking expressions
  • And more

Get involved with the file naming project: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Naming

A number of people have gotten involved by reporting failing test cases that ultimately led to the improvement of the project. Thanks for that!

Mac OSX Installer Coming

We've heard your comments, and it's coming very soon so stay tuned. You're asking for easy, we're going to give you easy.

I've noticed the last several updates have required physical downloading on my part, before the server would download them itself and all I'd need to do is click restart.

Any plans to bring this back, or have I been mis-remembering?

@Nollog, are you running MB as a service or an application?  If MB is running as an application it should not require physically downloading.

However, if you are running MB as a service, you need to either stop the service, physically download and install the update, then restart the service.  As an alternative, you can also stop the service, run the MB application which will auto-update MB to the current version, close the application, then restart the service.

I choose the alternative method because I find sometimes as a result of the MB server update there are other plug ins which also need to be updated. The saves a lot or restarts for the service, if I let the application do it's thing and then once all updates are finished I shut down the application and restart the MB Server service.

Like the new features, but noticed that none of my MP4 movies are playing back in the current web client (IE 11), most of them used to play just fine.  The cause appears to be disabling the Windows Media foundation support for mp4 files. As soon as I enable this, the mp4 files play just fine. Problem with that approach LAV filters do not kick in for mp4 files for other clients.

Note that I will not install or use any google tools including their WEBM. Google has crossed the privacy line for me!

EDIT: Just checked and WEBM is actually not a Google tool it is a open source project (WEBM project). After installing it, MP4's play back fine with the Media foundation for mp4 disabled, so LAV filters work with other clients
