Introducing Emby for LG Smart TV's

Installation

Users with an LG Smart TV can install now from the LG App Store. The app currently supports LG Smart TV's running Web OS 3.0+. We are working on update to support older versions of Web OS.

A Modern App for Modern Times

The interface for this app has been built with HTML, but this is nothing like the web apps you're accustomed to. This has been built purely with modern features that bring a level of performance that wasn't even possible a year ago at this time.

Rediscover your Content with Recommendations

A popular feature from other Emby apps is finally making it's way to Emby Theater.

New Music Interface

The app finally has a design that makes sense for music.

Live TV & DVR

Details Gone Vertical

A common complaint over the detail screen of the current Emby Theater is that it's pretty but slow to navigate. We went back to the drawing board and decided to take a little inspiration from Android TV. It is now much, much faster to browse through detail screens.

Learn How to Create Skins

Can you do HTML and JavaScript? Then why not fork the default skin?

Let us know what changes and improvements you're able to come up with. You can even release your forked version to the Emby community!

I am from Ecuador but in the store of my television does not appear the application when I look for it :( Does anyone know how I can do to install on my TV?

This is great. Just installed it. Looks terrific.

Not working:

- sound on live TV. Live TV sound on other devices working good. Just not on the LG app. Selected is MPEG2 audio, but also 5.1 fails to work

Left to be desired:

- play and pause buttons on my LG remote do not work (yet)

- (known issue) recordings are mostly absent (using DVBLink plugin)

Confirmed Live TV does not have sound also transcodes so quality is quite reduced (HDHomeRun Cable Card Edition) would be nice to default to 5.1 stream if it's available.

Most if not all my movies are formatted for playback on the AppleTV so the AAC audio track is primary and the 5.1 Track is secondary - anyway to add a user setting that you can select the 5.1 track as default regardless of where it falls in the priority list? This would be quite helpful to ensure the best audio selection is played back when using devices like Apple TV or LG ect.

Out side of that looks great and seems to function well.

LG Au https://imgur.com/a/ofonD all relevant TV details, still cannot see the app.

I wouldn’t mind so much but ScreenPlay can’t disable subtitles anymore and watching through DLNA (SmartShare) doesn’t update my Trakt. Lose-lose but one is certainly worse.

Is there anything you can do to push this out Globally? There are so many crapware ads in the LG app market, I would hope there aren’t too many hurdles.

Hello,

We are still waiting for the app to be released from lg.

Can’t you give us the app to install it as developers ?

Every time that you update your app we gonna have to wait 2 months.

Luke,

I have an LG 43LF5900 which is a 1080p with webOS 2.0, however the LG site says the application is not compatible with my device.

I've been running the app for a few months on my current update webOS LG TV.

I currently cannot actually hear any DTS or DTS-HD. (ac3 seems to pass through fine, however).

Is stats for nerds falsely reporting that everything is fine?

How can I get Dolby to play through without re-encoding the audio?

What year/model is your TV?  DTS is no longer supported in 2020/CX models, but this will automatically convert to AC3 in the next release

@SamES thanks!

I have a 2020 UN6950ZUF. Per LG's site it seems like you're correct (AC4, AC3 (Dolby Digital), EAC3, HE-AAC, AAC, MP2, MP3, PCM, WMA, apt-X).

If I use a utility like MKV2AC3, the audio passes through fine, it just adds about ~200~300mb to a feature film when it's 5.1(because I don't delete the DTS)

Do you have an idea when the next release will work (transcode)? Is it TV side or can I tweak it server side?

Link to comment

The update will cause the audio to be converted server side in real-time during playback, and will leave the video untouched, so the overhead on the server will be minimal.  This works well except for 4K/HEVC files, generally with higher bitrates as the TV generally struggles with streaming at that rate and it may pause frequently during playback. In this case, adding an AC3 track (if one doesn't already exist) is useful.  TrueHD and TrueHD/ATMOS audio has the same issue as DTS (and the same fix)
