you guys might have to investigate a little and work together. things change over time. we've had to update MBC multiple times due to changes from VLC or MPC. Maybe something changed again, who knows.

Hey there.

Cool.

Whilst I investigate... What's the most recommended way to do the mounting method ...

I don't think MPC-HC supports DVD playback with menus.  The internal WMC player does though.

Is there a way to leverage that internal player?

Sorry, I don't understand what that means...?  Just don't setup an external player for DVDs and be sure and disable the custom interface for DVD Rips - because that won't work with menus either.

Hmm.

Oh wait. Internal WMC - Windows Media Centre...

Well, all my hundreds of ISOs have full menus. Hmm

I'll have to go through the mounting route if VLC keeps crashing on me and MPC won't support the menus.

maybe you're better off looking at the vlc crash. vlc has always had a reputation for being very stable so in all likelihood there is a solution for that.

Investigate graphics drivers.  Have you updated them recently?  Is there an update available?

They were updated recently ... Like last week after a completely clean rebuild.

I'll reinstall VLC and see if I can find a log in event viewer when it next crashes.

It crashes arbitrarily - it seems like VLC is doing something that my hardware doesn't like ... But it really isn't consistent. And some movies seem worse than others

I has to restart about 5 times whilst trying to watch star trek, each crash was at a different scene. In the end, I mounted te ISO and played it in WMC.

So, I've configured the mounting option and will see if it's ok for a few movies in WMC. Will then tu VLC again. See if I can find any logged exceptions.

With video card drivers, I found newer is not always better. maybe try an older video driver to see if that fixes your problem. I've found that my video card works best  with a older driver installed not the latest.

Just in case someone else has similar problems

What I did to fix all my DVD play back issues..

* Made sure no other players were installed..

*  - tested - still not working

* Uninstalled graphics drivers, reinstalled

*  - tested - still not working

* Installed an older version of VLC (version 2.0)

*  - tested - boom.. Working

So, I think I was originally using some Microsoft generic graphics drivers, so that second step may have actually contributed to solving the problem.. But the real fix was the last..

Not only did it fix the crashing of the playback, I also had an issue with MBC crashing whilst I was playing, so, when the movie finished or I stopped playing, MBC wouldn't open, i had to manually go back into WMC and the re-load MBC... Switching down to VLC 2.0 fixed both issues for me (possible ensuring I was using the manufacturers drivers may also have contributed to fixing the issue!)
