Glitch on several HEVC video

I'm afraid, that's a bit outside the scope of Emby support on one side, and on the other side - again - not as easy as you think.

TV's are mass products using embedded systems for decoding having resources that are chosen to exactly fit the required purpose given the proposed and supported specs.

That's why it's clear that these can be less tolerant towards video encoding problems.

If I ever decide to buy an external player, which would be the best to always be live and have the least technical / reading concerns? (4K HDR, etc.)@softworkz

Clearly something based on Windows. This will give you the most flexibility, resources and options.

Hi there!
I have made a lot of tests for this kind of glitches, and it’s appear to be in Emby on Android TV.

In chromecast mode on the same tv, no glitches, in VLC, no glitches, on iOS, no glitches, on all players on windows, no glitches... It was not there before, I don’t understand what’s caused it, but it’s very frustrating...

An idea?

I can reproduce this slight processing issue when direct playing the item.  Transcoding it cleans it up.  Is your TV the only one direct playing it?

BTW - this is a tiny blocking issue for about 2 seconds in that one scene.  Looks to be related to the contrast of the reflection of the counter in that scene.

Hi ebr when you had reproduce it, it was on a Sony TV or a another external box like nvidia shield or something else? I ask because, I’m thinking to buy a shield pro if it can solve the problem and make my user experience to be faster...

Thanks!

I used a Sony TV to reproduce this.

ebr I have redone an impressive amount of testing, and the problematic files in Emby AndroidTV on my Sony work perfectly everywhere else. When I use Emby's external player function with VLC, it works A1 on my Sony too. I think it is due to the change in Exoplayer, but I cannot determine from which version it all started ... Would it be possible to do as on AppleTV, to integrate a second player into AndroidTV like libvlc or whatever so that we can continue to benefit from Emby's visual and continue reading features? I know this is work, but if Exoplayer is finicky, it may not be the best player choice for software like Emby ... But it’s already appreciate that I have the possibility to use a external player, Thanks!

To complete informations, I seen that type of glitch in SD x264 files too, but more like stuttering, a less fluid, jerky, but in VLC, it’s work well and like less pixelised (maybe some VLC filters)... I know that is more the fault of Google that yours, but you are our media center guy’s [emoji846]

Luke Just a little question, when we choose the external player, it’s say « Streaming », but the playing progression is not show in the server dashboard, it’s normal? I was thinking that is the same think that read a video from the browser or another’s Emby app’s?

Yes there are likely to be small quirks such as that with external players.

Ok, it’s not a big deal, but thank you very much to give us this possibility, versatility! Despite the shortcomings of Exoplayer, I can be fully functional!

And, if in a near future, a integrated VLC or something else player can be set in place, it’s will be awesome [emoji41]

+1 for integrating libvlc. I can play pretty much everything all fine on other (much less powerful) devices, however Android TV client on Nvidia Shield (mine is tube version) has lots of issues. VLC plays everything fine on the same hardware.

fyhjason You have problem with your Shield? Which kinds? I was thinking to buy one to upgrade my slow and buggy experience on Sony AndroidTV?

Mine is the 2019 tube version. Go to this thread to see more reports for issues on tube. I'm kinda hesitant to return it since I feel like the issues with Emby is really software issue.

Plex and Kodi also have the same issues ...

Kodi actually works better for me. I tried Emby for Kodi and Emburary. No app crash or stuck issues... Not sure about transcode issues though since I don't know how to look up play stats in Kodi.

The current release firmware of the Tube has a memory leak bug, that's the cause of problems with high bitrate media. This is already solved in an unofficial hotfix image. At least it helps in Kodi.

That's good to know, thanks pünktchen.
