Xorp 47
With COVID-19 quarantines in place and social distancing encouraged or required, a lot of us are trying to find better ways to keep in contact with friends during these crazy times. So people are doing online watch parties together from their quarantined homes. I'm looking for a simple way to stream media to multiple people at once. Almost a self-hosted twitch, but sourced from my Emby library. My idea is the person with the Emby server controls the playback, and publishes a time limited unique URL, so anyone on the LAN or WAN can view the same stream's progress live if they have the URL. No login required.
Luke 37045
Hi, couldn't you create a user with no password and restricted access to only certain content? Yes they'd have to login, but with no password it would only be one click.
Luke 37045
Ok it actually sounds like you're asking about multicast, yes if you search the community there's lots of requests for this over the years. It's an area of interest.
Xorp 47
My network proxy and load balance can handle the multicast, I was thinking just a simple way to spit out a playback control-less and login-less web stream, same the current web player but you can only see the progress bar. Then the admin could control the playback from the admin dashboard.
