Playback / Media control?

Brand new Emby user, so forgive me if I'm missing something. What I'm using:

iPhone X (iOS 13.1.3)

Emby app (1.8.4)

Emby server: Windows 10 PC (4.2.1.0)

 

I configured access to my home music folders, and can connect to them both on wifi/LAN + cell data/WAN. The issue arises during playback.

I can click a song and it will load and play, but there is no media screen, no seek bar, no apparent way to stop or pause. It just starts playing and won't stop unless I kill the app. If I click another song, or the play button at the top, I just get a circling loop.

As I'm typing this, I'm continuing to try and after killing and opening the app, some of the songs I tried will load a media bar at the bottom that does allow me to stop, seek, etc - that works great BUT it goes away again if i browse to another song and play it... and/or doesn't load the control bar in the first place most of the time. Any insight/help would be great!

Update: I believe the issue was related to the PC/server software - I noticed under Scheduled Tasks that Library > Scan Media Library had reached about 40% and stopped at a failed status. I clicked to have it continue, and after it completed, the media control/interface seems to be functioning when I play songs. 

Having said that, i have a separate issue that I guess is related to tags/metadata which Emby seems to try to automate for you... Most of the music folders I have organized are structured as:

 

Music Top Folder

>2018
  >01 - January
  >02 - February

  > (etc)
>2019
  >01 - January
  >02 - February

  > (etc)

...where, the mp3s are stored in each month subfolder, almost like a various artists comp, of random unrelated songs. The problem is, the app seems to be renaming the folder that contains the mp3s, randomly based on tags - when I open "2019" top folder for example, the sub folder structure as on my PC is not reflected in the app, where I would like to see "01 - January" the folder is appearing with a random name based on one of the songs contained. 

Is there a plugin or setting I can disable that would stop this from happening? I don't care too much about data or images being pulled from music databases. I prefer plain folder/file name data I have in place.

It doesn’t have folder based structure for music playing. Always resorts to metadata sorting. You’ll have to use Neutron $7 mp3 or opus player for that.

Our iOS app has a Folders tab under the music library.

Yea I’m aware. He’s complaining that’s the folders are sorted and most importantly named based on metadata (tags as he puts it) rather than the actual name of the folder.

I do now, that part is now functioning normally. What it seemed to be related to was the local server software on my PC was not finished scanning/indexing my music library. Once that completed, the bar at the bottom was fully functional - so no problem with that anymore.

 

Like mrfragger is saying, however, my "folder structure" on my PC is not directly translating when I browse into the music folder I "shared" on my PC. Once a "folder" contains a group of mp3s, the name of that folder in my app randomly takes on the characteristics of one of the mp3s tags. So perhaps this functions well if the music is not random/various artists. So if my folder path is something like:

 

Music > October > New Folder > [10 random mp3s]

 

In the app I will see the correct browsing names until I get to "New Folder" which will not appear with that name, but rather will be named after one of the mp3s contained in it. Perhaps there's no resolution for this, but I thought I'd mention it anyway as it is disruptive, for me personally.

Hadn't heard of those options, are these apps that connect to/stream home media as well? I was using Tonido until recently which seems to have stopped working, and Emby seems really nice, hold for this one minor setup regarding the folder name issue. Tried to fully clarify in my last reply in case my initial description wasn't explaining it well.
