I’m trying to connect the IP address but I don’t understand the port problem

Hi there, can you please describe your issue in more detail? Are you trying to connect to your own Emby Server, or someone else's server?

As a few people here seems to have issue with connecting to emby ( me included ) . Here is what i did ...

I logged in as root to my  Asustor . Can use Putty or similar . In root dir use : userdel emby. Then : groupdel emby. Restart Asustor and install Emby server again. Then connect with localhost :8096.

This worked well for me at least, after hours of struggling trying find out what issue was ...still not running smoot . Playback on tv have issues but trying figure out what issue is with that . Not sure if it has to do with the ADM or not .

Terje... what??  I too have the same issue.  Emby was working GREAT on my Asustor NAS for years until recently I got hacked by the deadbolt malware and lost EVERYTHING!!!  Was told by Asustor that my NAS is beyond broken and should be replaced... Guess again... I spent 5 days now and almost have everything back to the way it was.... but now I get error trying to setup Emby on Asustor NAS.  Luke, your "what is the issue" comments are not appreciated by people like us having very frustrating issues.     Just read what the people are saying.

Have you tried a different browser?

Hi Happy2Play.  I have tried on the browser on my NAS and on two other laptops using google Chrome browsers.  Its not a browser issue, its a port issue.  I have made exceptions but it still wont load.

Thanks.

Hi Luke.  No unfortunately I am still working on it.  I have been in contact with my NAS manufacturer almost every day since my last post here.  We think we have isolated it to my Google Router.  I contacted Google Tech support today and they informed me to add a DHCP Reservation (which I had not done) along with adding port forwarding rules for 8096 and 8920 (which I had done).  I just did that now but I still cannot access either of these ports.   So frustrating.   Once I get this up and running I will post what I did to get this up and running.

Thank you.

But port forwarding will only pertain to Remote access.  Your image above is for local access.  Only way local access should be restricted is a firewall.

Can you post a server log.

Hey Luke,  I PM'd Happy2Play asking what "log file" he was referring to.  He has been helping me in the private messages and as soon as I/we figure this out I was going to post what I did to get it up and running.  So far no luck (lots of messages back and forth and I didn't want to waste anyone's time here until we figure it out).  I cant show a "log" because I cant even get into EMBY on my NAS to see it.  Still says cant connect to 192.168.x.x:8096 (on multiple PC's, and directly on the NAS using an HDMI cable to a monitor).   No one can figure out why.  I have tried multiple (newer) routers, switches, and various setup configurations.  Asustor (manufacturer of my NAS) hasn't been much help (I have been emailing two separate tech's there and they cant figure it out) and Google Tech support just emailed me back asked me to factory reset my google mesh system to see if that help.... shoot me. LOL

/home/emby/logs

?

I've just had the same problem on my Nimbustor 4. To resolve, please follow these steps in the NAS ADM UI:

- Stop the Emby application

*** Ensure the user home folders are visible:

- Launch Access Control

- Go to Shared Folders

- Select User Homes

- Click Edit

- Ensure "Disable file access to this shared folder" is not enabled (i.e. unchecked)

- Click OK

*** Create the emby user folder

- Launch File Explorer

- Go to User Homes

- Create "emby" folder

- Start the Emby application

Emby should now launch.

Hope that helps.

Worked for me. Thanks

This is absolutely the fix... i just did a clean install of OS on my NAS and did clean install of emby, currently 4.7.3.0 and i could not get it to start until i did this.. @Luke not sure why this doesn't get done automatically after performing emby install.. maybe something to look into
