Emby Server Down after Nvidia Shield Pie Update

New here so be gentle. My Nvidia Shield TV went thru the Pie Update and immediately following that my Emby Server began to crash. I would get the message thru the Emby App "Difficulty connecting to Emby Server" and then the app would freeze or just shutdown. Playback became unstable as well. I did a complete Factory Reset to my Shield and reinstalled the Emby Server and then the Emby App but still had too many issues to run it. Is anyone else having issues after the Pie Update? And if so any idea on fixes?

So I got the first message after loading the latest Emby Server apk of "Your trial period is about to run out" never saw that before the Pie update. So I purchased thru the Playstore a Monthly Premier Pass but the server failed to load the key. The next time I started the Emby app I got the message "Difficulty accessing Emby Server" and then the trial period message again. Opened the Emby Server app and stopped it and then restarted it and the Emby app worked fine except for the trial period message upon startup. Next day I get the Server message again and 30 seconds later my Shield locks up. Performed a hard boot on the shield and after restarting the server the Shield locks up again. I contacted Shield tech support ans was told to factory reset my shield and reload the server so I did that and the shield was back to normal. Loaded all my other apps and set everything up and tested out for a day without issue. Installed latest Emby server and app and everything worked for a few hours before I got the Server Hard to connect to and the trial period message. I then went to Emby and purchased a monthly pass thru PayPal and loaded the key thinking something had changed due to the Pie update but it failed again and became to unstable to continue to use and was worried I would have the same lockup issue that arose before so I had to uninstall it and revert back to Plex. I uninstalled the Emby Server and the Emby app and have not had issues since with my Shield. Hope that helps and I would love to know how to return to Emby on Shield as Plex is not my favorite.

Also, I installed the Emby Server 4.2.0.40 apk and I just noticed there is a newer one 4.2.1.0 When did this version get released?

Have the same problem. After Pie update, server would just shutdown by itself. I'll be browsing my library and suddenly nothing would load. I would then open the server in shield tv, and it shows it offline. Turn it back on, worked a little then again it shut itself off. So, I did a whole shield full wipe reset, did my library again and same problem. I'm back to Plex. No server problem there. Too bad, I really liked emby.

So I reloaded the latest version of Emby Server and then the Emby app and I'm still getting the same issues with the same irritating messages. Now a new issue has arisen with locking out my HDMI port! Have to remove the hdmi cable and replug it in to get it working.

Hi, are you talking about the messages from our Shield app, Emby for Android TV?

Yes the messages appear thru the Emby App for Shield TV. The Emby Server on Shield is also still shutting down and it takes repeated attempts to get a movie to start

I'm new to Emby, but I'm familiar with using my Shield as a server. I'm also having this same issue. I'll be using Emby on any of my devices and then all of a sudden I get the loading spinner. I open the Shield app and the server will be off. I toggle it back on, and then it's fine for a while. But eventually it happens again. Everything else is running great! If this issue gets solved I'll most likely be done with Plex.

It happens to me while trying to navigate the app on any device while the channels in my Live TV are populating. In another thread you mentioned it may be caused by what you use to render the artwork. That definitely seems like what is happening. Maybe it's too much load on the Shield to navigate while images are loading up.

Out of curiosity, are you guys using the standard or Pro version of the Shield TV?

Internal Memory or have you expanded it?

How much free internal space does the Shield tell you is free?

I can't help but wonder if some of you guys are running out of working space with image caches or when the transcoding.

I had this happen to me until I freed up a lot more space.
