cifs & nfs at the same time

Soooo for the longest time I've had my storage server running an NFS & Cifs/samba server and I'm trying to figure out if thats the right way to do things as I've had issues and I'm currently rebuilding my emby VM.

Sonarr/Radarr VM & emby VM connect to the storage server via NFS

All my clients (nvidia shield, PC's, mobile apps) have the path but I imagine they are using SMB.

Should I not be doing it this way? I did the NFS between linux (debian) servers because I figured it was faster and safer on the data. Obviously using SMB also because of all the different clients.

Any ideas? Should I change this up?

Hi, is this a general question about your environment or is this about the way you'll be setting up emby server?

Its how ill be setting up emby. I guess I should clarify. I'm definitely using nfs shares between servers and cifs for windows clients and media streaming devices... The last question I guess is, should I setup emby with cifs or nfs because I have either option available.

I would mount to a local share in the OS, and then add that local path into Emby.

The only reason you'd need cifs at all is for your clients to access files directly.  Your Emby clients don't need direct share access at all unless of course you need direct access to individual files for some reason.

I mean, isn't direct playing content the best way to do things?

the files are not "local" per say in that they are on a storage NAS. My question is related to how I should mount them local to the emby OS. Should I mount them with cifs or NFS?
