Where is Roku's Movie Cache

I had a problem with one of my ripped movies. The movie would stop a point in the movie and display the movie detail screen with resume button hilighted but you could resume it. I decided to cut out a couple of seconds of the movie to eliminate the problem point.

I then replaced the movie in it's folder with the edited movie. Tested it with the web client and it played as expected. Went to the Roku client and it played the movie that wasn't edited and it stopped. Tried the movie with Theater and it played the edited movie.

The I checked to see if was direct played and the dashboard said it was being played direct. Checked the Temp Transcode directory anyway and it was empty.

Obviously the movie is cached for Roku but where is it cached so I can clear it.

I tried restarting Roku but that did nothing. I played it on another Roku device and it played the original unedited movie.

I then shut down the server and restarted my server, deleted Temp files and restart Emby server. No change.

Where is Roku's Movie cache so I can clear it?

The app does not cache media content.

I think whatever the issue is is probably just still a problem for the Roku player.

Can we please see details about it?

How to Report a Problem

Thanks.

I played the Movie Dead Pool. It played to 42:09 minute mark. Stopped and reverted back to the Emby Movie screen with the resume Play button highlighted. This is what happen to the original BUT the movie that is now in the Directory has been edited and the place where it stopped is NO LONGER in the MKV file. Verified by playing it using VLC, Emby Web Client and Emby Theater.

It looks like there are two different versions of that movie.  Both were played in that log and each one would play differently as one is from a DVD and the other from a BD.  The BD version has a True HD audio track which won't be playable by the Roku so that is the one producing the ffmpeg log.

Which version of the movie is causing the problem and did you edit both versions?

I only edited the BluRay version. Your assumption is correct there are 2 versions in the directory, a DVD and BluRay. I selected the BluRay to play but the Roku app played the DVD version???

I created a Test library and put the only the BluRay edited version in it and It played just like expected.

So bottom line. If you have multiple versions of a movie and Roku can't deal with the one selected (ie TrueHD) it automatically selects the other version. I do understand why that would be the choice. Now I know that my assumption was all wet.

Thanks

Yes, it will default to the direct playable version, but you can easily select the other version before playback if that is what you want...

When you put multiple versions into the same folder it creates a single item with versions. When picking a version it depends on how you play the item. If you play from the detail screen you should see the selectors for: version, audio, and subtitles. If the item is video and playable you will always see these selectors on the detail screen.

Below each of these selectors may be a selector button showing what the choice is instead of just plain text showing it. You can navigate to these selector buttons and click them and change the drop down to any other selection in the list. It is only on these detail screens that you can modify what will be chosen. Once chosen the choice is stuck. That means next time that item plays for you it will choose what you have chosen automatically ever after.

When you press play directly on the item the automatic choice made will be either your last selector choice if you had one or like @@ebr mentioned it will make that choice based on which version can direct play. This choice starts at the highest resolution version you have and will move down to the lowest (bitrate is involved when making this choice as well) until it finds one that can direct play. That is the present behavior you get. So to over-ride the automatic behavior you must make sure to land on the detail screen and then make your choices.

I just assumed that the choice in the dropdown list was the default and that is the one played.

It is.  If you can reproduce a different version than what shows in the drop down playing when you do that from the detail screen, please let us know.

Thanks.

Can you explain more? Emby on Roku won't open? Not understanding this 100%.

Emby on Roku works just fine. You need to let us know what Emby server version you are using. Which app version of Emby for Roku you are using (press * when hover on the app on the Roku homescreen). If it did not work correctly we would have chaos. There would be serious calamity. There would be riots in the streets. It would be raining cats and dogs. Kangaroos would be purple. It would just be wacky.

Can you give as a screenshot/picture of what you mean? Where exactly you get an error. Thanks. ^_^
