Apparently it will arrive June 4, so in a couple days from now. I just can't afford the cable subscription any longer. I guess I'll see how it goes. There is only three OTA where I live, but there is never anything on Bell anyway. I'll keep my fiber gigabit connection. Looking forward to getting it working with Emby! It will also also give you an idea of what antenna an lounting location will be needed. Also I use the app “Signal GH” that lets you use your phone to lock the 2 tuners of the connect box onto 2 channels and get live signal strength/quality while you slowly reposition the antenna for best results. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The antenna you recommend costs about 200 Canadian, so I'll be saving up for it. Maybe in a couple weeks. Looks like it's a bit of a puzzle to put it together. I look forward to it. Did you end up using the booster that comes with it or did you just using the one in the he Homerun? I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to use an external booster with this device. Which one are you looking at? The 60 Mile + VHF is $86 plus state sales tax (8.xx %) here. The 75 mile one is more of course. I used the booster and my signal is fine with my antenna mounted in the attic of my two-story home. Of course, I can see Mt Wilson where the towers are from my house even though it is about 50 miles from me so that's got to help. I got a Winegard and this one at the same time to compare the two. The Winegard had a very cheap 1970's feel to the build but the Televes is quality through and through.. plus the Winegard was much longer so it wouldn't fit in my attic and the signal was slightly less. By the time I paid for import charges and the exchange from amazon.com, purchasing it through amazon.ca was the same. Man, if you saved 100 000 dollars in the US and then came to Canada, you would be 100 thousand dollars richer... And universal health care... Anyway, I'm really looking forward to hd Homerun and putting this giant antenna together. It's gonna rock! Not to get political but there's no reason for every person to not have access to basic health care. Not all antennas are the same, some are good for certain signals and some are not. Depending on what type of signal those three channels are you may not need to spend so much. But mostly Canadian stations I recognize as Toronto HD channels. So I'm thinking I've got to reach the CN Tower which is about 100 km away, or close to it. Sammy 735 Posted June 5, 2019 Share Posted June 5, 2019 @@chef This brings to mind the issue of VHF vs UHF and even LoVHF and HiVHF. Real channels 2 through 7 are LoVHF and 8 through 13 are HiVHF. Those above 13 are UHF. The "pancake" style antennas only typically pick up UHF. Antennas with DiPole rods pick up HiVHF but very few of them have long enough DiPoles to grab LoVHF. Nobody is being stopped from purchasing insurance, paying cash or going to free clinics. On the subject of this thread. @@chef, if you want to PM directly I can help you out with antenna choice for your specific location. In a nutshell you need to lookup and find the channels and towers, the signal strength you can expect based on height of your antenna(s). You may or may not need multiple antennas depending on tower location and directional gain of antenna as well as bands needed. There is UHF, VHF-LO and VHF-HI with UHF being the most common. I need all 3 in my area. As you can tell, there are quite a few things that come into play to finding the proper antenna type. Then there is the gain of the antenna. We are talking pure gain of the antenna and not "digital" gain via an AMP. An AMP does not help reception one bit but only "magnifies" what you do receive to overcome cable runs. You can't "boost" something that isn't there to begin with. Once you know all this and know the gain of antenna(s) you need, then you can determine if you want to purchase or build an antenna. If you only need UHF it's pretty easy and cheap to build you own and do better than anything you can purchase. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got the HD Homerun connected in my network box and just for the hell of it attached the antenna to it to see what would happen. Wow! Lying on the floor in my server room facing SW, and I get a bunch of HD content.
