csjjpm 5
Hi, I've just bought one of these android tv boxes and installed EMBY. The box is connected by wifi to my network and I have an ethernet connected media server that hosts the emby server. I have emby on other wireless android devices (phone and tablets) that play backs fine. I also have a (ahem) plex server and the plex app on the Android TV plays back perfectly. Any advice on the EMBY app, settings? is there more than one version (mobile/tv box). Thanks Paul

ebr 14910
Hi. Have you tried lowering the bitrate setting in the app? What, exactly, does "jerky" mean, though?
csjjpm 5
Hi. Have you tried lowering the bitrate setting in the app? What, exactly, does "jerky" mean, though? For some videos the sound plays on but the picture will freeze for a second or two and skip to the next frame and so on.
csjjpm 5
Which box and what Android OS? A T95Q, Android 8.1. 4GB RAM Amlogic S905X2.
ZootsAllure 4
Using the default player my A95x Max does the same thing. Video has skipped frames, the skipping follows no pattern and can be momentary or a significant stutter. Not a prob on my Firestick that works fine. Have uninstalled, tried both stable and beta...no change. As well the built in player doesnt pass thru any type of DD only pcm. Had to change to VLC which plays flawlessly with pass thru turned on. ebr 14910
There are definitely limitations to these off-brand boxes as they don't always implement things fully the way the sanctioned Android TV boxes do.
RanmaCanada 343
The problem with these boxes is that the software support from the MFG is crap. Use one of the custom firmwares available on freaktab. I have 2 A95 Max S905X2 boxes and in order to get proper playback, I had to install Xannytech's firmware, AND use SPMC as an external player. The other issue is that Amilogic hasn't been forthcoming with their blobs, and support for ALL amilogic devices will be dropped from most open source players (VLC, Kodi, etc) because of this. SPMC is no longer being developed, but the current decoders in it work perfectly fine for playing all video. Use the external player option and use SPMC. Until amilogic actually adheres to the gnu licensing rules, no one will support them properly. https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/580862-amlogic-support-to-be-dropped-from-official-kodi-for-android
Kyouma 3
I believe i have a similiar problem with my fire tv. A large amount of my videos dont play correctly at the bginning. The sound plays fine, but the video freezes always for about 4 seconds and then starts to play normaly. 2 days ago i didnt have any of those freezes and even the same files which played correctly have now those freezes in the beginning. As i can tell nothing on my side has changed. Playing the files on my LG TV or the webbrowser works without any problems. Emby ver. on my Fire TV is 1.6.94a
clarkss12 295
If your box has an unlocked bootloader, you can dual boot into another system. I think CoreELEC MAY, create a device tree for it. I have a Mecool KM9 (Amlogic S905x2), but it has a locked bootloader, so no dual booting. IF you can dual boot it into CoreELEC, you can run Embuary on it, I just discovered this GEM....... Testing it out now........ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/49724-support-thread-embuary-a-emby-kodi-skin/
Kyouma 3
Just a quick update, it seems that my problem with the fire tv is gone. just tested the same files which had the freeze problem yesterday and now they play just fine. i dont know what caused this, but it kinda fixed itself overnight. vabiris 0
I'm sorry but with a x96 max TV box with same CPU, android 8.1, 4 GB ram I'm having playback lagging. This is happening only with embedded player of emby app. If I use external like VLC no problems. When bitrate is auto the play back is lagging a lot. When I use bitrate up to 720p 2 Mbps it seems better but quality is not good. If I increase the bitrate lagging is getting worse. This is happening with all my movies which they are fhd quality. The server is on windows 10 pc and streaming through Lan. Thanks. Sent from my Redmi Note 5 using Tapatalk

Use that port and Embuary skin, that box will KICK butt. Create a bootable microSD card with that OS, and it does NOT touch your Android. vabiris 0
And some minutes ago, I found that before logging in there is a button that sends logs to the developer and I did if that helps! I meant at exactly what point does it crash? e.g. "I open the app, see a login screen, select a user..." If the log you sent was at 10:11am EDT then it was blank which would indicate that the app doesn't have permission to or simply cannot access the log on the machine. This being a non-standard machine, it is most likely that the system simply doesn't have all the components the app needs. You might try a different flash of a proper Android TV OS on it. ebr 14910
Okay, a quick Google search turned up this: The X96 Max runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo operating system, not Android TV. So our Android TV app is not going to work on it with the stock software.

scu98rkr 0
"I've just realised that I'm using emby for Android mobile instead of Android TV." "I installed the correct one but after logging in server's account, the app is crashing with black screen and not responding." I have an a95max. Same jerky with emby for Android mobile. Crashes with emby for Android TV. Was using plex which runs fine on the a95max but had server issues. Since swapping definitely prefer Emby. On the A95 the Emby extension for Kodi works fine. But my wife would never use as requires 2 button clicks rather than one. Am a bit disappointed with my a95max. Its quite clearly very powerful for the price and can run games very well, steam link etc. But using it seems difficult. Its not very user friendly. Idea was to replace nowTV stick, talktalk box, steam link with one device. Which in theory it can do, but its so user unfriendly I cant get my wife to use.So its just one more device under the TV. Wish I'd brought a Roku (cheaper, cant do steam link) or gone the whole hog and got a Nvidia Shield. Edited September 27, 2019 by scu98rkr
