Hello,

What's happen when you click on the "emby's shortcut on your nas?"

Hi, I have this problem also. After multiple install / uninstall attempts, I still don't have Emby appearing in my asustor portal (so not appearing on the TV when i open nas via HDMI)

I have an Asustor 6204T. I've had issues with Plex stuttering whilst playing anything via HDMI or remote. After pulling my hair out at all possible solutions i decided to try Emby. Note that Plex at the time was still installed on my nas (wasn't sure if this was causing issues).

I first installed the Emby version in the Asustor apps (4.3.1.0). The Emby button never appeared in my portal when i checked it on the TV (after adding some libraries, initial setup, etc). Emby seemed to never finish a library scan (appears to hang for over 24hours at the same %, library is 1400 movies) so I thought it might have been that.

I firstly updated to the latest version (4.4.1.0 I think) and no change, then uninstalled and re-installed multiple times including the latest attempt deleting the home/emby folder (which caused a error with initial setup not working so i had to do the groupdel and userdel in SSH, as solved in post titled "No access to Emby server Interface", very helpful, thanks!), and still not appearing in portal. I've now installed latest version (4.4.2.0_x86_64 as downloaded from the Emby website) successfully and I've also only added two smaller libraries which appeared to complete the scan successfully, and still no emby in portal.

I'm not sure what I'm missing here.

I tried adding the address manually in portal by adding localhost:8096 (in the form of both 192.168.X.X:8096 and http://192.168.X.X:8096),which worked but it opened the app in a web browser. I expected it would open in a player interface similar to Plex.

Is there something a miss here?

Hi there, welcome. 4.4.2 is the latest, and if you're playing on a TV then you might want to check out the display setting in the web app to enable TV mode.

Alternatively you may also want to check out our apps in the various app stores:

https://emby.media/download.html

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply! Excuse the photos, i was hoping this painted a better picture for you from what I'm seeing.

I have a Hisense TV so i cant add Emby to the TV apps at the moment as its not available, but that's not a problem. I'm running movies across the TV via 4k HDMI cable connected directly to the nas. Its accessed by opening the HDMI link on the TV, which opens the interface seen here.

Note Emby is missing.

My portal is the same, missing the app although you can clearly see it is added into my apps in the below interface.

I expected the app would be added into portal on installation, based on my experience installing Plex (my only other experience).

Should've Emby added itself into the portal's list on install or do i need to add something manually?

I found the solution for this. There is a app in the Asustor app store that has the shortcuts for Emby, Etc. I'll check the name when I get back home.

Thanks for the info ! Curious about this:

Does it just open their web app?

HI Luke, yes it opens the web app from the nas. i could set all my libraries up that way. currently issues connecting to the server though the nas / TV interface.

Dilaw

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. As an ASUSTOR NAS user, I had to fight the discontinued KODI Support. Tried PLEX first but I don't like their account strategy. So I came to try Emby. Honestly, did not hear from you guys before but after two days testing your media server, I really have to say that you are doing an awesome job! So now I'm on my way to connect all my devices to my Emby Media Server running on my AS5002T.

- Android Smartphones -> works

- FireTV Stick, Generation1 -> works

- Samsung Q60R, manual installation -> works

So for now, there is only the problem in this topic that gives me a headache.

My AS5002T is connected to a Non-Smart TV via HDMI. So if I switch to the ASUSTOR Portal - as described by asa504 already - I also did not see any Emby App to start. I then installed the URL-PACK-EU Pack but that only adds a URL to the Emby Webpage and does not help me at all. Problem is that if I start the WebApp via the ASUSTOR Browser (Chrome) the videos lag pretty strong. I can see that the Chrome App on the NAS consumes almost 100% CPU.

So I was wondering if there is a chance to start a "Emby Player" App like for the other devices that can be used on the NAS directly.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Best regards,

Dilaw

Pevdv, did you have the Emby app add to Portal on installation of Emby?

Mine never showed. As Dilaw said, the URL-PACK-EU app only installs a web address.

I have also entered the webapp manually in a browser on the nas but it doesn't loose the address bars (likes like i've opened it in a web browser on my computer), and for some reason some of the sound is missing in movies.

I've changed the settings to TV mode but all it did was make the icons massive.

Is there any way to doing a thorough delete of everything without a reformat? It seems like a file from another app is corrupting the install of Emby.

Pevdv, did you have the Emby app add to Portal on installation of Emby? No it has not installed an app,  i don't think there is an app for the NAS or a desktop?

Mine never showed. As Dilaw said, the URL-PACK-EU app only installs a web address. the url pack installs an url link to emby but that does not work. When i enter the IP it gives connection error.

I have also entered the webapp manually in a browser on the nas but it doesn't loose the address bars (likes like i've opened it in a web browser on my computer), and for some reason some of the sound is missing in movies. If i enter localhost:8096 in my adresbar it opens emby and i can play movies,but they are often slow and laggy. Which is strange because of the asustor hdmi direct to TV connection.

I'm having trouble determining if this is true or not. i was under the belief that it should install something. There's no other instruction to say you have to also install the URL pack and it didn't appear to be common knowledge. I dont think everyone has had the same issue. Can anyone confirm?

You can use the web app as 10ft app on a TV. To do this, open the app, go full screen, then set the display mode setting in the app to TV display mode. After doing this i would suggest refreshing it in the browser. Then the user interface will be optimized for TV usage.

@Luke Im not sure if the URL-PACK-EN is the solution, this would be fine for a Computer monitor in such but not for TV's.

Is there such a way that there could be, if there wasn't one already?, build an Emby Theatre plugin for the Asustor Portal (HDMI) within the package. I believe a lot of people would be able to maximise on this option, an plus, I can now see Plex has the support... but would rather stay with the Emby Family.

Can you please provide a Solution as watching via the URL is very small and laggy (everything has been updated)

@Jaw94 hi, yes this is something that we're planning on. Thanks for the feedback.
