Bulk Music transfer from QNAP

I'm an emby newbie so be kind to my dumb questions.

First my emby server is running on a Linux based server in a Docker container. The Emby server is up and running just fine. I can access it well with my browse on my Ubuntu base desktop machine.

I also have a QNAP NAS that I have had running for several years now. I currently contains photos, documents and music. No video or movies.

I want to move all my music from the QNAP music library to the new EMBY server in bulk. Freeeing up a ton of space and repurposing the QNAP for other things than media serving.

I have somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 songs in the QNAP music library. So as you can see it is not a task that is manually realistic to do.

For that reason I am looking for suggestions, procedures, or ideas on how best to accomplish this feet.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

One thing to bear in mind, I do not have any library structure set up on the Emby server yet. So this is very much a 'green field' installation.

Thanks.

Glenn.

Hi there, can you share your qnap folder over the network and download the contents from your linux machine?

@@PenkethBoy may have some tips.

Thanks.

So create an nfsshare on the qnap at the root of your music files.

Create a mount of that nfs share on your ubuntu machine.

Then do a cp -r of the directory structure from the qnap to ubuntu.

Alternatively use scp.

I think QNAP has an rsync server built-in, might need to enable it. So you can rsync the music directory tree from the QNAP (pull) to your Linux box. The nice thing about rsync is that you can resume an interrupted transfer or run an update transfer multiple times without having to start over. And you don't need to mount/share any volumes to run rsync.

Thanks for the replies to this.

The Emby server is in a Docker container (I'm new to Docker as well). So I'm not sure where to put the music files on the Emby/Docker side.

I already have a music share created on the QNAP side. So that part is OK.

Normally when I do file transfers between Ubuntu (Linux) systems I use Filezilla. It is the Docker portion that is the area of uncertainty for me. Once the files are all transferred will Emby auto catalog them?

Also, I run Apple airport express devices for streaming my music in different rooms. Will Emby support these. (Maybe this is a question for a different forum area?).
