Problems with Shield -> Bug

Hi eveyone,

I just got a Nvidia Shield for Emby. App is working nearly flawlessly, but I do have at least one bug.

When I am in the playback menue, and I do select for example the speed for transcoding/playback I am often unable to leave that menue. Same with the resolution. If that happen, I can only go back to the HomeScreen, but when I try to go back into the Emby app, it ist just a black screen (or in that manner, it's grey). Only a rebbot of the console is helping here...

The other question I do have - and I guess thats not a bug, I have selected the resolution of the Shield at 4K, HDR and 59,9Hz. When I am in the Emby app and play something in 1080p ist the Shield going to upscale that video? Isn't that producing worse quality than sending the 1080p straight to the TV? I could not find an anser to it.

Nevertheless, Emby is awesome.

Cheers

Hi.  Use the back button instead of trying to use the left arrow to exit that sub-menu.  This is a bug somewhere in the menu framework that I have not been able to work around yet.

Probably but whether you will notice it is up to you.   I would set your Shield to 1080 and then turn on the auto refresh rate switching.  That will allow your TV to do most of the upscaling but allow 4k items to be sent as 4k.

Hi ebr,

thanks for coming back.

So you mean the back button on the remote? That is the button I was trying to use (casual Android user), so I guess both are not working as indended. But I will try to look at this again and report back.

Ok thanks. But that would mean that I need to adjust the Shields' settings everytime I switch the content? Or are you saying that when I play 4K content the Shield will automatically select 4K for me then when I enable auto-refresh rate and set it to 1080p? That would be amazing. I am just asking this as I have read somewhere that the upscaling of the shield is not that nice, but haven't noticed anything so far.

Cheers,

Ice

I've seen this occur in the past and as @@ebr says, it still needs looking at.

What I do find different in your case though, is that you say pressing back freezes the app.

On my Sheild, it's the left button that freezes the app, but the back button works as it should.

Are you using the standard Shield remote, or another one such as a Harmony, or even the Shield's game controller?

If you enable the auto refresh rate switching in the app, it will automatically switch to 4K with 4K content.

Tried this, is working fine. But guess I will stay at native 4K, no issue when the Shield does the upscaling, both pictures looks the same

I am using the default remote, not the controller or anything different. I will do some more tests and report back. Thanks
