Live TV no longer showing up in paid/unlocked Android TV app

Hi,

Some time ago I paid to unlock the Live TV functionality of Emby's Android TV app. After the switch to version 3.6 and then 4.0 of the server, the Live TV functionality has been disabled in the app.

I understand that the model changed and now we can't get Live TV through the web app (or any other way) if not using an Emby Premiere subscription, which I'm upset about, but can comprehend. TV guides are not available in my country, I provide the guide data through NextPVR and don't care about DVR, so the old model used to fit me fine (it just never made sense to me to subscribe to Premiere due to these limitations, and were the reason I chose Emby over Plex when implementing my tuners in Chile). However, I did pay for the unlock specifically for the Live TV functionality and now that feature has been removed.

Given the above: is there a way to enable just Live TV (no DVR or guide or stuff) for use on the Android TV app, or can I ask a refund for my app purchase? I'm aware that it was a small fee and I'm not getting any richer if I got a refund, but I am upset about specifically paying for a feature as promised, that has later been removed arbitrarily.

Also, are there plans for a "lite" Premiere subscription for users that cannot access the full fledged features (such as TV guide)?

Thanks and regards,

Darren

Hi.  I'm not sure when you purchased the unlock but that option was not supposed to ever include Live TV access.  In fact, it warns you about that when you purchase it.

Do you recall when you purchased?

Thanks for following up. It was July 20, 2017. Both the in-app message and the Play Store description at the time indicated that the app purchase would unlock live TV. Without the unlock, playback was limited to a couple of seconds (20 seconds? 2 minutes? can't quite recall). I remember it vividly as I was looking for a way for my Nexus Player to properly display live TV and this was an avenue I wanted to try. It didn't really work at the time (some audio issues), but was OK with paying for the app, which eventually worked fine.

For clarification, this is the current app description in the Play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.emby.embyatv):

Note the texts in red where it indicates that the unlock enables playback and no mention of the membership is made with regards to watching live TV from the app.

Okay, sorry.  Live TV has been a part of Premiere for quite a while.

The TV app, however, has never had limited time playback.  I think you are remembering the mobile app there.  The TV app has always had a two-week trial instead.  And the app purchase does warn you that it does not include Live TV now.

I will update the store listing to be more clear.

Thanks.

You're welcome. I must note though have never purchased/unlocked the regular Android app (I've used it though), just the Android TV one. Live TV per se only became a Premiere exclusive recently (server v3.6+), as I used to use it either from the web app, the Android TV app or from the regular Android app sent to a Chromecast. Other features such as DVR (scheduling recordings) were always Premiere features, but as I already mentioned, I'm in an area where TV guides are spotty at best and it never made sense to me to upgrade due to this.
