Wrong Album Artist and Track Artist

I am running Emby 4.0.1.0.

Just added Lohengrin opera (3 discs) to the library.

All tracks were tagged by MP3Tag according to:

Album artist: Rudolf Kempe

Artist: Rudolf Kempe; Wiener Philharmoniker; Wiener Staatsopernchor; Otto Wiener; Christa Ludwig; Gottlob Frick; Elisabeth Grümmer; Jess Thomas; Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

Emby correctly shows album artist on the web interface:

5c488d71b4f1b_l1.jpg

Also it correctly links to Rudolf Kempe artist page on the album artist link under the album title.

Problem occurs when track's menu (red on the above picture) is invoked and the "See Artist" option is selected.

Emby will lead to other artist (Gottlob Frick) wich is also wrongly shown track detail (also in red).

I had already noticed this problem on almost all albums from one other artist.

Thought it could be some problem on the database upgrade.

Now this occurs on a newly added album.

I alredy tryied to update both artist's metadata and album metadata.

Nothing seems to undo this wrong association.

Just wondering why you think Gottlob Frick is wrong in track detail if it is listed here:

Just wondering why you think Gottlob Frick is wrong in track detail if it is listed here:

Because it is wongly listed there.

As previously stated, track's artist is:

Rudolf Kempe; Wiener Philharmoniker; Wiener Staatsopernchor; Otto Wiener; Christa Ludwig; Gottlob Frick; Elisabeth Grümmer; Jess Thomas; Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

In this same specific order.

I would like it very much that this track menu option "See artist" would be transformed onto individual links to each of track's artists listed under track name. You see: their names alre alreay shown so why they do not lead to anywhere?

This is what I expect the interface should do.

Once the interface provides no means to get to other track artists (other than searching) I would expect the "show artist" to link to the first track artist.

In fact it does, but Emby changed artists order...

You see...

Track artist is essentially a multi valued field.

I suppose most of the users hardly have something on this field.

But I also suppose Emby's real and faithful user is someone who really wants to have, keep and care for a digital collection.

That's me.

So my track artist fields usually contain as much info as possible about who was playing on that track.

This is why that "See Artist" menu option simply does not make sense.

There are various artists on the track and "See artist" just grabs the first.

Even worse: this occurs on search results, recently played…

Sorry, can you explain this a little more? Just having a hard time following. Where does it go?

Emby will lead to other artist (Gottlob Frick) wich is also wrongly shown track detail (also in red).

Thanks.

Luke,

Problem is, again, related to the "album artist" and "track artist" metadata.

Just like this other thread.

Both fields, as I understand, are multi valued.

Emby's user interface considers they are single valued.

Also, Emby will use "album artist" and "track artist" as links on various contexts without discerning one from the other.

So in order to get to the point consider the following:

- a music album titled "Justamusicalbum" with 13 tracks.

- all tracks have the same album artist metadata: "Justanalbumartist"

- all tracks have the same track artist: "Firsttrackartist; Secondtrackartist; Thirdtrackartist"

For this scenario Emby will show this album screen:

5c4d9aae3d67a_i1.jpg

Where album artist and track artists were red marked.

Now, for each track on this screen there is a ". . ." menu.

Once clicked, track's menu shows these options:

5c4d9b04af38f_i2.jpg

Last option shown is "View artist".

Now... this is an option on track's menu.

All our sample tracks have three track artists (wich are different from the album artist) so...

Where will this menu option leads to?

 5c4d9b89576ff_i3.jpg

As we see, track's "View artist" menu option leaded to one of track's artist.

Please consider here that there are no means as to reach other track's artists: Emby will link just to the "first".

But this is not really the first. Nor the first in alphabetical order.

Now, by using MP3Tag, I added a new artist to all our tracks.

They all have "Anotherartist; CCCtrackartist; BBBtrackartist; AAAtrackartist" as their track artist field.

Rescanned the library and thus our album screen now is:

5c4d9d13c6955_i4.jpg

Note that Emby added the new artist on each track. Plese also note that it was added at the end, as the last artist.

And now our track "View artist" menu leads to... the same CCCtrack artist.

Then I try to manually edit Emby's track metadata so that I could change the order and make the recently added "Anotherartist" be the "first".

No means.

And this is "system wide".

Now if we go to browsing by music genre and reach to our sample album genre ("Nordeste"):

5c4daa8f2bcd5_i4.jpg

We can see that the album is correctly presented with it's name and album artist just under the thumbnail.

Then there is the album menu where we find the "View artist" option:

5c4dab5b0b5a9_i6.jpg

To where should it lead us?

Well... Though I would expect to be lead to the album artist, this is what I get (again):

5c4dabf1197c4_i7.jpg

Wich is not:

- the album artist;

- the first track artist in alphabetical order;

- the first track artist on file metadata order defined by MP3Tag.

Or, in other words, it is probably just the first track artist Emby got on the SQL query.

Also, as previously mentioned on this post, Emby will return no results when searching by "justanalbumartist".

As previously mentioned there is other thread to this problem.

I am seriously into building a digital music database with more quality on information than Spotify.

And I (still) think Emby is the right choice.

My main concerns are:

- There is currently no means as to move media and metadata with confidence from one server to another.

- There is no current support for music composer

(there are various threads mentioning this)

- Search for album artist does not work

- Emby is prone to create database mismatched information
