Emby Theater - no sound

Not that I want to piggy back. But I’ve recently had a similar issue with my Xbox one playing 4K movies. If I have it play the details audio track of 7.1, the movie stutters and pixilates like crazy. If I play in Dolby 5.1, the video plays smoothly but get no audio.

Is this related ?

Exact same thing going on here and seems to be the same issue. If I choose 7.1 TrueHD it transcodes and my cpu isn’t coping with 4K transcoding yet, playing 5.1 direct plays the 4K video but no audio comes through at all.

Yes, the problem still persists! The only solution is remuxing without DTS track. It is very disappointing, that you have a sample file till months ago by zsoltsuhajda, but no fixing at all!

I've a similar problem.

Lots of movie play fine on the android AP but not on Edge/FireFox/Chrome/Emby theater. There no sound on the second audio track (French mainly AC3 in my case)

The file play fine with VLC.

FYI folks, I had a similar problem With the desktop ET app.  I had recently built this computer, so I assumed I had configured my sound device (because it was working fine elsewhere) which is 2 book shelf speaker with a sub plugged into a small but mighty desktop amp/dac combo, plugged into line out  on the PC (speakers).  I was getting sound including dialogue on commercials but when it came back to the football game, I had sound but no commentary.  I couldn't hear anyone speak.  Configuring my sound device fixed it.  It seemed to be set at 5.1, which I don't have hooked up to this PC.  Just thought the info would be helpful.

I'm having this same issue. Was a fix ever found? One thing that I see different is that there's no option to direct play video, but not audio. Plex has this option so 4k videos can direct play, but split the audio out into a separate transcoding stream. Is there any way to do that in the Emby Xbox one app? All of my 4k movies will direct stream the video, but transcode the audio. If it's mixed like it appears to be in the Emby app, I think that might cause the results above where it's either really choppy video with sound or great video with no sound. Any solution?

@@Luke, can you take a look at this? Getting 4k videos to play correctly is a must have for former Plex users on Xbox one. At a minimum I would think that splitting the audio and video transcodes into separate, independent transcodes would really help.

Sure, Spider-man Far From Home is the most recent 4k movie I tested. If I play the 4k video with the TrueHD 7.1 audio track it tries to transcode and the video is badly pixelated and chopped up. If I play the 4k video with the Dolby Digital 5.1 track, it thinks it can direct play and there's no sound because the audio actually needs to be transcoded. This movie works in Plex because I turn off video transcoding and turn on audio transcoding. So the video direct plays, where as the audio transcodes separately and all is good.

Should I share Spider-man with you so you can try it on an xbox one?

Ok so it transcoding. But because of audio, which doesn't make sense. It's also falling back to software decoding, so that may slow things down. Softworkz will probably have to take a look.

Both of them are transcoding? From what I see when playing the video, it seems to me that TrueHD 7.1 is transcoding, but when I use Dolby Digital 5.1 it isn't transcoding. That makes sense to me, because audio almost always transcodes unless it's stereo. And, when I did use a stereo audio source, Spider-man worked fine. Both video and audio was able to direct play.

In Plex I can split audio and video transcoding, so I always transcode audio and always direct play video. Works well since the majority of my movies will always transcode the audio anyways.

Everything is transcoding. I only took a quick look at the logs, but both logs are transcode logs. If it were just the audio, you'd have a remux log. But the reason the logs are giving for transcoding is the unsupported audio. So it appears that something isn't quite right. But I may be missing something.

Ok, thanks. Is there anyway that i can allow or not allow transcoding on audio or video? If i have the option, i would enable transcoding all the time for audio, but force direct play for video.

There is an option in your user settings in the server to disallow it. But that might result in not playing at all. It would be an interesting test, though.

Ah, ok, I think I found it. I unchecked "Allow video playback that requires transcoding". I'll give that a shot. Not sure it'll work as it seems to think the video needs to be transcoded, but I'll try it as well as a few other different configurations with those settings.

I tested all the different settings and results were as expected. It thinks it needs to transcode so it just doesn't play. What I'm looking for is a setting that tells it not to transcode video and to attempt direct play instead of just thinking it can't do it. Is the video player the windows/Xbox video player or an Emby player? If it's windows/Xbox it should play. Not sure why it thinks it needs to transcode.

It plays fine. The same movie is a large h264 file in 1080p and it direct streams with 7.1 surround sound. No issues.

I'm thinking that it may be because it's HEVC. Do you have the HEVC extension from the app store, installed? The app is using the windows player, so you'll need that extension

I'm on the Xbox one and I don't see a HEVC extension in the store. There's an heif image extension, but no HEVC video extension. Is it called something else on the Xbox One?
