transparent subtitle

FWIW I've found if you open the troublesome .sup file in BDSup2Sub and export to a new file then the new file displays fine.

There are solutions but they all require certain technical knowledge that not everyone possesses. Nor would they need to if Emby developers took things seriously and did their job.

Another option is to download the srt versions right within the app itself while you await a solution.  Install the opensubtitles plugin on the server then you can do everything else within the app.  No technical knowledge required

Still quite a lot of movies with these. I hope they can proritize this. it seem like player issue since all other players can do this except emby

Same problem with "Ready or Not" movie.

Attached is the channel for forced subtitles in Spanish so you can try it out and support them asap.

Thanks.

Another movie with same problem "Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood".

Please, solve this asap. In this case the subtitles are almost invisible.

You should remember that this is a paid and closed source application (only your developers can modify the source code) so I think this issue is urgent enough for you to get your hands on.

If you are already ripping the movies from disc, then rip them minus the subtitles, or extract the subs to SRT files.

The solution is to solve it as soon as possible. It's a priority issue. Especially since the rest of your competitors have already been able to cope with it for a long time without any problem.

So you're not willing to help yourself.

Where are these items with multi-layer PGS subs coming from?  Just curious as I have none.

FYI, common in anime subs ripped from blu-ray.

Are you still running into this?

Yes, it's the reason I'm stuck using an external player on the android tv client.

Wanna post my update in this thread.

I am watching Mob Psycho 100. It uses PGS subs. I just watched the first episode.

I probably lost about 20% of the subtitles. Basically whenever any other text appears on screen, it all disappears / blinks in and out rapidly. It plays fine in browser obviously, tablet, phone ect.  Like with SSA / ASS subs. Similar issues. But there's no way for me to burn PGS subs in as far as I can tell...

This happens in many other anime series I have with PGS subs. Downloading SRT subs for movies is fine and all, but for these series I find nothing when I search, and doing for 30+ series would be time consuming and frustrating.

This doesn't sound like the same issue as in this thread (which is about dual layer subs).  Are you 100% positive these are PGS and not SSA/ASS?

It says PGS subs, so yeah.

If there are two sets of subtitles on screen, one disappears or they both disappear. Only on The AndroidTV Version. Just like with SSA / ASS subs.

Okay, I imagine that is a completely different thing from what this thread is about and will need to be addressed separately.

Maybe add an option to burn in PGS subtitles like you have with ASS/SSA until a solution is found (by Exoplayer devs, or whomever).  I'm guessing since they are natively supported (sort of) by ATV the server doesn't burn then in like with other clients.  That way they may look normal

I prefer them not burned in though because I can always select the option to use an external player like VLC to display them without hammering my NAS for transcoding

I prefer them not be burned in as well, but if emby won't play them right, and using an external players little Annoying to go out of it and then back into it, but maybe I'll try VLC or something, I really don't like Kodi.

I'll try to take two or three videos, showcasing the issue in emby showcasing it how it's supposed to look, how vlc / plex does it. Not good at doing videos, but this is the easiest way to explain.

Here we go(Please ignore any backround noise):

PGS Subs in Emby on Android TV(NVIDIA Shield): https://photos.app.goo.gl/3xju9BK1qGwocRyBA

PGS Subs in Plex  on Android TV(NVIDIA Shield):  https://photos.app.goo.gl/YdN5TThDKHyBeSS86

The PGS subs display perfectly fine in the browser, and on my phone & tablet(and Plex).  It's the same issue I have with SSA / ASS subs unless I burn them in.(Plex burns SSA / ASS in as well though, so I don't mind about that) I thought it was related to transparent subtitles, but it appears not according to you.

Both Plex and Emby use Exoplayer, yes? So I'm wondering what's different here. Both are direct played with the same subs.

@@ebr did something change with the new version of Exoplayer as far as PGS subtitles in beta?  I just tested 3 movies with PGS subtitles and both layers appear to being shown.  They are no longer hollow like in the pics from OP here.

I looked at the Exoplayer release notes and this is all I could see

HLS: Recognize IMSC subtitles (#7185)

Ya, it doesn't say much other than it now recognizes IMSC subs in HLS.  But if you look at the pics in the first post here and the Emby pic in the other post here

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/86739-pgs-subtitles-displaying-incorrectly/

You can see that they are now filled in and NOT transparent anymore which is how they appeared for me prior to the new beta

Yeah I'm stupid, I thought dual layered subs meant more than one text positioning on screen, so I thought the issues were related.

Ok, well I'm pretty sure mine are all dual layer.  If you look at mediainfo the element count is twice the number (one element for each layer) of actual subtitle lines in the srt for the same movie.  I've never been able to use PGS before without them looking transparent unless I used VLC as an external player to see them.

Anyhow, I'll do some more testing.  Maybe my heads not on straight today

There is a new version of Exoplayer in 1.8.05.  Not sure if you want to try that, you will need to side load because the store isn't being updated.

Yeah, just came to correct after checking the beta thread.  Hope potentially restored.

I don't think there is any reason to expect this has changed at this point.
